    Insurance Approval

Every time I get a flare up I am running to the doctor....oh yeah...they will see that getting a revision is cheaper for them in the long run.
  2. This is about how it is working for me. I'm really enjoying the journey this time. I am a revision patient. I'm enjoying planning healthy meals and cooking more thoughtfully for my young kids. With my band I wasn't eating healthily and constantly worrying about needing an adjustment. I lost about 19 my first month and this month will probably be around 8. I need to pick up the exercise when I get back home in September. That usually slightly increases my rate of loss but really it's the food.
  3. I'm 11 days post op from a band to RNY revision and I feel the same way. I'm kind of nervous! I can drink water all day and eat 3-4 Tbl of food and I don't feel full but I'm also not hungry. I have the head hunger BAD! Sooo I'm just taking it easy and only eating what the dr. told me. I don't want to push it. Hopefully we'll figure it out as we heal. You're not alone.????

    September Gastric Bypass Peeps

Hi Toasty, I am going for my revision to GB on September 4th. I have ordered all liquid calcium and B's. I also have purchased the Bariatric advantage multi with high AEDK which are chewable. I drink premier protein now but I think the first few weeks after surgery they will be too thick. I just purchased protein drinks from Ideal Protein. They come in all different flavours and have 18grams of protein per serving.

Horizon NJ Health, 12 month wait?

Are you getting a revision or is it your first procedure?
  6. Following up.....I'm now three months from revision and I am SO HAPPY!!!! I'm 48 pounds down. It feels like it's going so slowly, but clearly it's not number-wise. My reflux and pain are completely gone. I was worried at first because in the beginning I felt mildly heartburn-y, but it must've been surgery related because everything is so comfortable now. I have had no trouble eating and advancing my diet. I think (and the nutritionist agrees) that I was so well trained by the band to chew and whatnot that that's why I have no troubles whereas a lot of newbies have trouble. I also think my pouch is fairly stretchy from the band having been there so long and having food sitting on top of it because I can eat far more than most bypass patients. But my energy is great and I feel so much better with bypass than I EVER did with the band. I think my max weight loss with the band was 70 pounds after two years, which I didn't maintain for long, so I am getting close to that number already!! (I had gained all my weight back with the band.)

    What was the deciding factor?

@@Chelsea Marshall I was in the same boat. Had planned to have sleeve but had reflux. After doing a lot of research it was very clear to me that I wanted to go through 1 surgery 1 time. I went with the bypass and never regretted it. If I were you I would start looking at the revision statistics before ultimately deciding. If you already have reflux, there is a very good chance it will get worse with the sleeve. With bypass, your chances of reflux completely going a way is very very good. I had it bad prior to surgery, since surgery I have not had reflux at all. They took me off reflux mess 30 days post surgery and I no longer have that expense.
  8. As a follow-up since this came up in my email.....I'm now three months post-op having my band out and revision done and I AM SO HAPPY!!!!!!! I'm losing weight and feel great and I have NO troubles with bypass. I had trouble with the band for most of the time I had it in, and to be this comfortable this soon after surgery really makes me happy. I can eat more than most bypass patients. My theory (and the nutritionist agrees) that I have so little trouble because I'm already so well adapted to chewing and whatnot from the band. I'm also thinking that my upper stomach is pretty stretchy from the band and that's why I can eat more?? But anyway, I'm so happy I've done this. I spent so much time regretting the band, but I also would have regretted it if I had done no surgery, so it's all good now. Totally worth all the money I've laid out for it. Still worried about long-term success, but I really can't complain yet!!

Hi, Chelsea I wish my nutritionist had told me that I have the sleeve and my reflux is extremely bad since I've been sleeved. Help..idk what to do

I am 13 weeks out from sleeve surgery and down 57 pounds since surgery and down 87 pounds total. I didn't want the lapband due to failure rates and having t have fills done often. I have met many people on this site who have been revised to sleeves due to their band slipping. There is a gentleman in my live support group who is 6 years post op with the sleeve and lost 350 pounds. The sleeve is a safe and effective procedure. Everyone's situation is different and it is a personal decision. All of the surgeries work but they are just one piece of the puzzle. Good luck with your decision!
  11. I did the revision 2 weeks ago and I can say at this point no regrets except I did not do this surgery first. We are successful because the band teaches you to eat very slow so that is half the battle and the feeling when it is stuck is worse than any full feeling . But you know you are full and stop because we did the hole get sick because something stuck not anything I would do now because I can feel stomach acid again. The is new for me after 5 years to have to take Pepcid everyday for the acid I am hoping this will get better in time! Good luck making your decision mine was a must because of issues with my band and was experiencing type 2 diabetes again not an option since my husband past last year my kids need at least one parent here and healthy. My vote would be if you have a great surgeon do it!
  12. Hi...after a lot of research ,thought and pain I have changed my mind.I am not seeking a revision to the sleeve but in fact a RNY.My lapband has caused my stomach and esophagus so much pain...the reflux is severe.I can't cut away 85% of a very abused stomach. The Gold standard for me... My first time sleeve friend is doing very well with her sleeve.

    Lap band removal

Hi all, i was banded in 2010 and in aug 2014 it was removed as the band failed.. In oct 2014 i was revised to sleeve and its the best decision I've made in my life. I have GERD since being sleeved however, i haven't had a bout of reflux for about a month now. So i believe its well and truly under control ????. I started off at 383lbs, I'm currently at 235 lbs and still losing. I can eat almost anything i want just really small amounts . I do have a problem with eating anything with corn and any leafy greens.. Thats about it! Wishing you every success with your Journey.

Due to operate Dec, but overwhelmed with choice

RNY surgery has been around for a while so it has a good track record. Of the available surgeries, RNY allows one to lose the weight the quickest. I choose it because it had the lowest rate of revisions. If I go under the knife once, I certainly do not want to go under it again. If you have severe acid reflux (GERD), this is the procedure for you. The sleeve will only make this condition worse. I had the RNY surgery 27 months ago. Two days after surgery when I left the hospital, I was off all my blood sugar medicines and haven't taken any since. Two weeks after surgery I took myself off all my blood pressure medicines because my blood pressure was dropping too low and I haven't taken any since. My Gerd is gone along with sleep apnea. No more profuse sweating or frequent urination. The only medication that I take now is for my Asthma. I consider this surgery to be a good decision.
  15. I was on the lap to sleeve revision journey until I sat down and did my homework and really thought about it.For me I look at it this way...Inhad the choice at the time back in 2004 andvI went with "The hot new trend and flavor of the month "The lapband".....misery,failure and pain......I am now if given the right opportunity going to choose the bypass...,.I am going to go for the Gold!!!! Finally!!!:-)
  16. I am going in for sleeve to bypass revision in 10 days.. I am wondering how everyone's weight loss has been after a revision... Please share.. Thanks!
  17. I had g-tube; placed the day after surgery d/t an obstruction. You should not really be aware of it. It it's causing you pain, it may in part be d/t the irritation from the vomiting. If it still hurts that much,it definitely warrants a call to your surgeon. Maybe it's nothing or normal in your case; but call. You are paying for this service; it's all part of the package. Don't suffer or look for a definitive answer here. Each case and surgeon is specific. Please call! BTW; mine was in a few weeks and as there was a bit of an infection, I confess is hurt when it was pulled out; a LOT. 5 years later when I had a revision, I had another g-tube and when IT was taken out, I didn't feel it at all. Still, when you go to have it taken out, I would take a pain pill 30 min prior just to be on the comfortable side. Good luck.
  18. Your revision was only three weeks ago don't stress over one week. This a life/long marathon. Stick to your Doctors rules/goals and the weight will come off. I had times just like that. Set daily goals and try your best to reach them. If you struggle one day go back after it the next. Three weeks out your water is essential and just do your best with protein as you adjust. Keep us updated on your progress.

Looking for Lap Band to Sleeve Buddy

I also had my band removed, and had to wait 3 months. I was told is due to the scar tissue and it needed to heal before they do the sleeve, also insurance and you need to do some test over. I was sleeved on 8/10 and have lost 18 so far, I'm glad I did the revision, the band started giving me so much trouble and it begin to hurt. There is a 1500 calorie diet you can follow to help you maintain and not gain any weight, it was very hard for me and I found myself eating more, and more, I pray you can get it done soon, blessings to you all.
  20. Can I join in? I'm so frustrated. I was a failed gastric sleeve 2 1/2 years ago and I had revision 23 days ago to gastric bypass. Starting weight was 250 and I'm down to 230 but have stayed at 230 for the last week. I do an hour on the treadmill everyday this week and even played golf 18 days post op. My trouble is I can't keep and puréed food down. I'm so afraid I'm not getting adequate protein even though I have a shake everyday. I can keep the shake down but as soon as I have some puréed beans and turkey it comes right back up. I just don't want to be a failure again. I sure could use a mentor!
  21. Spoke to my Dr. , he said band is not in the best position but he has seen worse. He doesn't think it will effect me, but it might help to have insurance remove it. Of course I want a revised surgery to RNY, not just my band removed!
  22. @@Trayjay33 thank you so much for your kind support. I'm very excited for my future with this revision and I'm glad to hear you have had a good experiences!
  23. I am 51 and trying desperately to work my way to lap band to bypass revision....this has got to happen...50's are the new 30's in my book...but much wiser!!!

Doctor pro band, I was thinking sleeve

my surgeons office wont do bands either mostly because of all the issues the slipping the erosion and the revision rate to either sleeve or rny
  25. I have the same thing going on with the lab band....I just had a cat that confirmed a hernia, also an upper GI with barium swallow....results will confirm the reflux etc.I am going to opt for the bypass revision after all.I wanted the sleeve but in the end bypass is my final choice.
