Try the drinkable yogurts. The chobani ones that you can find at Walmart and other stores I'm sure are fantastic. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App

Rice milk vs lactose free milk ??
Mimilou2004 replied to Ecinaj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use lactose free milk and it tastes the same as regular milk....I even make my own yogurt from scratch with it. Mimi -
First off I will start by saying that I currently have no before & after pictures to show you guys as I am in no rush to show anyone what I look like since I'm still a work in progress... so.. sorry to disappoint on that front! I WILL add some eventually but not yet. Not even most of my family has seen what I look like and they are waiting impatiently! For me it's kind of a TADA moment. Like letting my family open a present. That being said, I am down whatever it is my ticker says... some crazy number (lost 190 lbs or so?) which is AMAZING! I can do normal things now that most people I know take for granted and it feels great. My blood pressure is generally perfectly normal (unless my anxiety is high) and my heart rate at rest is something crazy like 48 bpm. I've still got about 100lbs to lose. It feels like a lot yet but I try to keep it in my head that I'm coming up on almost losing 200lbs since I started this journey so another 100 can't be THAT bad. I would be closer right now if I hadn't stepped off the tracks here and there more recently and sat around nibbling crackers and such instead of eating my Proteins. I have found through experience and experimentation that if I do not get at least 65g of Protein in a day with my drinks and greek yogurts then I get RAVENOUS. So good tip if you find yourself suddenly more hungry than you've ever been and even though you were never a nibbler before you just keep nibbling GET THAT PROTEIN UP NOW! The holidays were rough and I got down on myself through November and December. I even had some of my old ugly depression rear it's head which only made the carb nibblemonster worse. I'm back on track now for a little bit and the weight is starting to drop again without even adding back my exercise yet as I prefer to do it one thing at a time and not overwhelm myself (besides my daily chores keep me pretty active in our new house: loading large 30-100lb logs into the wood stove 2x a day, pitchforking 100lbs or more of hay 2x a day for horses, and running out to the coop to take care of our 10 chickens in negative temperatures and 2 feet of snow). My 33rd birthday is coming up on the 2nd of February and the 4th of February is the anniversary of my surgery. My goal is to hit 249lbs by that date although with as easy as the weight comes off me if I just stick to eating properly (about 0.5-1lb a day) I should theoretically blow past that goal. After that I'll set a new goal. I don't regret this decision one bit. I had zero physical complications and have had zero physical complications in the almost year since the surgery. Mentally there have been complications of course. I let myself slip up, I've overeaten, I've been down on myself repeatedly for not "doing better" and I went through a bad breakup with my relationship with food since I felt like food was my only "joy" in life so what now? The process isn't over. I am still working through these things mentally and when I look in the mirror I still feel like I am that 450+ lbs person. I don't deny there have been *MANY* physical changes and looking back at an old picture of myself I was like %#@&! but mentally things are coming along slowly... I am working on pushing myself past my comfort zones and into new things. It takes awhile! I can't rush it! I have to be patient with myself and patience with myself has always been a problem. Patience with all other things is where I excel. Anyway, I will try to get some before and after pictures soon.. and by soon I mean when I feel I am ready. But I wanted to share a bit of what has happened since the first moment I committed to getting the VSG and the first time I ever posted here.

First check-up after sleeve surgery
Arabesque replied to Losewate's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It can be a bit challenging to find foods that won’t upset you. So sorry you had such a dramatic reaction to your first non liquid meal. Many think yay, real food & try to purée foods that their tummy can’t tolerate yet. Go slowly. Remember you are still healing. Try thicker soups first. I was allowed very soft scrambled eggs, rolled oats, yogurt & I found them easier to eat to begin I think because they were more bland & less stressful on my tummy. Just make sure your purées are still pretty sloppy. Only being able to eat very small portions is very common - think 1/4 - 1/3 cup. You’re eating denser food now & they take longer to digest than liquids which go through your tummy very quickly so you get full much more quickly. Personally, I still find mashed potatoes too heavy to eat - they sit like a lump in my tummy but every one is different in what they can tolerate. Good luck & congrats on your surgery. -

GREAT start Kim!!! I pretty much ate as much yogurt as I wanted to (remember, I don't like cot. cheese so I didn't even touch it!). You'll be surprised....you won't eat as much as you think before you feel full. I could never really eat more than a cup at a sitting. Yup...and drink drink drink....cyrstal light is great; my fave is rasp/cranberry

Well folks this is it i guess. Lat night of eating, gorging etc before my cottage cheese and yogurt....yech! actually I did not gorge as much aI was planning. I was completly embarrassed tonight when I went out togeta scale as the one I have doesn't go that far. He went on it 6times saying nothing was wrong with it, and yet I said it doesn't work and then finally had to say look I am obviously fatter than what the scale goes to, and I was soo humiliated. We were going to go to the manadrin tonight but we have been fighting all day and I am exhausted. I jsut can't deal with this relationship and this lap band thing too. How do I gather up the strength to do it? I mean you guys are or hve done it and I am scared crapless. I wil try to do the cottage cheese thing , but can I, if I have never stuck with anything in my life? So tomorrow I will get weighed, take my measurements, throw up after what i see I guess...and hopefully get on and get through it. Please don;t leave me folks I am going to need you for a bit. thanks

Help! Sleever for 6 days. Carbs?
Sosewsue61 replied to kandywolf's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Try some whole milk yogurt. Drink a little juice just to bring it up or regular gatorade , chase it with lots of protein - pureed cottage cheese. Or call your bariatric clinic. The most important thing is to get the blood sugar to stay up to a normal level - if it goes much lower you could have a seizure and worse. -
Ever Feel Like your stomach was a big ball?
IAmGrace posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I had too much for supper last evening. I had 5 ounces of greek yogurt and about 1/2 hour later I had a protein shake. About 1/2 hour after that my stomach felt too full. It felt hard and distended. That happened to be once before about a week ago and it went away fairly quickly. However I woke up this morning still feeling like my stomach was too full (again hard and distended). I have a call into the doctor but haven't heard back yet. Has anyone ever felt this way? -
Hi Everyone, Well today is the day in which I stared my stage 3 phase "puree" diet. I decided for Breakfast I'll have some Greek Yogurt in which I've never tried before and I might add that it was the most vile thing that I've ever had. So I've decided instead of the Greek Yogurt I'll have Peanut Butter for breakfast. Does anyone feel the same way I do about the Yogurt? If so, what are you eating to take its place. Have a beautiful day. Prada.

When I was on full liquids I was allowed cottage cheese in addition to greek yogurt. I also ate a lot of protein soup.

I don't have a fill yet either (scheduled 8/8) but I have to go REAL slow with soft, cold stuff. I have to take small bites and wait between them with frozen yogurt or I get the most excruciating brain freezes!

The Soft Solids Effect
Bufflehead replied to almosthome's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
honestly I would not waste stomach space on things like potatoes at this point. Maybe try a tiny bite of something high protein and soft, like refried beans, tofu, Greek yogurt, or cottage cheese. -
The Soft Solids Effect
moonlitestarbrite replied to almosthome's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
veggies, even cooked veggies, can be tough to digest. try things that are easier... cottage cheese, yogurt, soft cooked eggs. even just drink milk. fyi, at 13 months post op i cant eat 5 ounces protein! 2-3 at most. -
Does anyone have any liquid reciepes to help me out
nearly40momma replied to mummy86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Forgot to mention greek yogurt. I saw you have been eating some yogurt but dont feel too full after. Try some of the greek. I have tried Brown Cow--I think thats it--from Sams Club. They are so rich and creamy, i always feel so full after. i have also bought the plain unflavored kind and mixed sugar free jello mix into it for flavor. I have official made myself hungry now.....off to find my bullet -
I've been adding 1/4 C kefir to my breakfast smoothies plus eat 1 C plain Greek yogurt daily, but am not currently taking any in pill form.

Food For Airplanes
Humming Bird replied to Cingulus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know about stuff to take on the plane, but I recently spent many hours stranded because of snow. You know those frozen yogurt places they have in many airports? I asked the kid working there to look up the grams of protein in a small cup of the frozen yogurt.... 35g ! So I got one! Yum! At that point I had 4-5 hours to kill and didn't care about the carbs. I asked, but don't remember what it was. -
Hi everyone I am 7 days post op and will be starting pureed Friday. Does anyone have fresh ideas other than yogurt, cottage cheese, pudding etc. Any ideas would be so greatly appreciated. Are we allowed anything with sauce and ricotta or has anyone tried stuff like this? Thanks!

My doctor did not have me on straight liquids right after post-op - I went straight to the pureed stage. For the first couple of weeks, I LIVED on blenderized lentil soup! My favorite is the one from Trader Joe's in the big can. All vegetarian, inexpensive, high protein, and DELICIOUS!! My surgeon is a huge fan of lentils post surgery - calls them one of nature's most perfect foods. He says that fish is the other perfect food. Not sure if you are lacto-ovo, vegan, or a pescetarian, but if fish figures into your plan at all, it is a great back-up protein once you get to soft foods. I also do non-fat vanilla greek yogurt, mixed with PB2 (powdered peanut butter). The combo packs a huge protein punch and is absolutely delicious! Cottage cheese is also great in the soft food phase.

Can we talk carbs?
Clementine Sky replied to magoosmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's fantastic! When it comes to carbs I think quality and quantity are both imperative. Wholesome forms of it in modest amounts can be beneficial. I do have to be mindful about how many carbs I eat, but actually have found that I lose the most weight, feel the best, and can sustain weight loss if I stay in the 50 to 100 or thereabouts range. I used to lose a lot of weight with very low carb diets, and then gain it all right back. I'll typically have a breakfast that is higher in carbs (high Protein Greek yogurt smoothie where the carbs are from fruit and kale, or oatmeal with unflavored Protein powder blended in), and scale back with the other meals and Snacks. I haven't lost anywhere close to 130 pounds (extremely impressive!), but I have lost enough to go from a BMI of 32 to 19.1 as of today. My weight loss over the past year has been relatively slow, probably in part because of having more carbs, but the silver lining has been minimal hair loss, absolutely no loose skin, and no regain. -
My nut doesn't like any oatmeal or yogurts that have more than 10g sugar. For yogurt it can be hard to find Protein and low sugar unless you go Greek and I do triple zeros. I found oatmeal the same and that the think thin and some other more high end brands had similar stats. I have not had blood work yet, I can only share that carb goal and say that I have enjoyed the think thin but it does feel like a lot of calories when most of my Breakfast "meals" are less than 100 calories. But maybe that is good since I worry I am slowing with loss due to low calories.

I can't remember who told me about Iceland Yogurt but I decided to give it a try today. Let me say that it tastes so much better than Greek Yogurt. Greek Yogurt had a funny aftertaste that I found disagreeable. If you want to try the Icelandic variety, the brand to look for is Skyr. It has less sugar and carbs than Greek and tastes pretty darn good. You can't beat that a serving size has 15g of protein.
