    NSV (Non Scale Victories)

My best NSV was today. I left my jackets last night, and didn't have one to wear this morning. My husband threw me his (which has always barely gotten around my shoulders) and it fit PERFECTLY. I told him he never gets it back!
  2. I have become addicted to the gym...well not so much the gym but to the calories I am burning. I workout for about an 1 1/2 per day. I started going to the gym because the scale wasn't moving, but guess what? The scale still isn't moving! I cut out all re-fined carbs, such as bread, and Pasta, because I thought that would also help but so far no luck...so I thought I would come to you guys for a bit of advice... Here is my diet: Breakfast: Starbucks mocha half sweet-non fat- no whip 175 calories ( I cant give it up...I tried but when I don't have it I eat and eat and eat, because I am looking for my fix!) Fruit salad-berries, pineapple, melon, grapes- 250 grams Lunch Chili 1.5 cups Sour cream-fat free 2 to 3 table spoons Dinner Chicken breast no skin 4- 5 oz. Salad- cabbage-veggies-lettuce- 1.5 cup Tomato -just a few chopped up for taste Green peppers small hand full Sour cream-fat free 2 to 3 table spoons Frank's Red hot sauce ( I use the sour cream and the hot sauce as dressing- it is only 45 calories and 0 grams of fat. I figure it helps make up for the mocha in the morning!) Snack Protein drink with 23 grams of Protein (right before bed)I drink 10 - 12 glasses of Water per day. Totals for the day: Calories: 1450 Fat: 34 grams Carbs: 179 (they are from fruit, milk, and bean products) Protein: 101 grams I am burning 900 to 1000 calories per day- 6 times a week. I do cardio every other day, and strengh training on the other days- which consist of Tai chi, yoga, an hour of curves, and an hour walk. Sunday I rest. My scale has refused to budge. I want to know if anyone has suggestions for me. I don't want to lose my spirit and put the breaks on and turn into a couch potato, but it is hard to be motivated when your scale is not backing you up. My pants are still tight too...I could accept all of this if I could fit into to smaller clothes and have a NSV, but I am still in my FAT pants! Has this happened to anyone else? ANY advice is appreciated! I have never worked this hard to stay in the same spot.
  3. Holy Smokes, I couldn't find where to type last night, and thought the same thing this morning. I've been so bad on personals, I am sorry for that guys. I always pop in from work, read quick and then forget what to write. Denise~Love the houses. The one backyard looks like a nice place for the grandbabies to come over and go swimming. Tracy~Enjoy your romantic weekend! 5 years is a long time....congrats! Kat~I loved the story about your son...how wonderful for your entire family...enjoy his visit. And as far as falling apart...I hear ya. Hey, fall apart next week:wink: Haydee~I agree w/ Terry...they make helmets in so many colors these days. LOL, what a great NSV. Janie~Feel better soon. i can't remember anything else...although I know there is plenty I am missing. Today is parent/teacher conferences. And so is tomorrow...until 7pm. Susanne will be here, but we will not have major plans. We decided no gifts, just cards. Since we just had our anniversary last week. I bought her a pair of Oakley sunglasses and she bought me a beautiful leather bag! We don't need to spend anymore money. Thats all from this corner of the world. Was planning on working out today, but knees still hurt and a friend of my mine had gastric bypass yesterday so I'll take her flowers instead! She will be at hospital until tomorrow! Have a great day! xoxoxoxooxoxox

Shrinkin' Violets- Part 2 Read Here

You crack me up, Haydee!! Richard wanted to take me out to dinner but we had to cancel due to stuff going on with mom. So I asked for a jewelry tumbler instead...LOL I got tools for Christmas! And i couldn't be happier! Can't wait for my package to come. I'll be your house is looking really good, eh? What all have you done already? I find it hard to believe you dont like cheese!? How do you eat queso and enchiladas and nachos??? What's WRONG with you????????? :confused2: Great NSV!! You'll have to wear a helmet now. KAT - So glad your son is home!!! What a wonderful surprise for you all! Gee, i can't believe you didn't just go plop yourself on their couch for a couple of hours! They would have loved that!
  5. OMG Haydee----- I LOVE that NSV!!!!!!! Kat
  6. I think Michelle said it was three or four days... She might be coming back tonight... The garage sale was a success! I made over $200 bucks and my aunt who also brought all her stuff made about $200 too. I made just enough to cover my Violets trip, so sorry Kat, catch me next week when I get paid!! What's everyones plans for Thursday? Do most of ya'll go out on the day or wait until the weekend? We're staying home this year and I'm gonna cook a nice fancy dinner... Our new house is needing all sorts of upgrades so we've been spending most of our money on that. We've bought each other practical Valentine's days gifts. Juan bought me a nice walnut side board table for my dining room and I bought him a patio umbrella for our patio table. We're so romantic, huh? Oh, does everyone know that the Frigo Light String cheese is high in protein? I didn't know! It's a good snack and it's not cheesy. I usuallly don't like cheese especially cold cheese but this just tastes like skim milk. I have this huge knot on my forehead. Last night I got up around 2am to get a glass of water and I ran into the corner of my wall. BAM right on my forehead. Dummy me didn't turn on any lights and I was rushing to get back into bed because my tile floor was cold. It used to be that my belly stuck out further than anything else on my body but now it's not there to protect my face! So... what an NSV, huh? I ran into a wall with my face, yippee! I'm a dork... I'll be back later...

HELLO LADIES I want to take a minute and thank all of you for being so understanding and letting me vent last night. I just want you all to know that today was a much better day. First thing my DH did this morning was to give me a great BIG hug. Then to put the frosting on the cake, THE SUN WAS OUT TODAY. Shining very bright.........but it was only about 10 degrees outside. But that sun..........(gotta make those Florida Reservations) JANET - I caught the brownie bit, but it wasn't that I was afraid of you...........it just sounded so yummy, I decided to say anything was to tempt fate. Besides, I had my BigMac yesterday. (never again though) PEACHES - M & M's. That sounds really good. In fact, hubby and I were in K-Mart and there was a box of them on the check out lane. I had to hold them up and show DH. He was very surprised that I didn't buy them. Didn't want to go from 65 to 60 in less than a day. PHYL - I bought myself two new bras today while at K-Mart. Cheapies but in colors. And instead of a 42DD, I bought a 40D and a 40DD. Both felt good but I have to be able to wear them for a while till I know just how they fit. I think I might have to go Capris too. I noticed that the skin right above my knees is getting pretty crinkly. I told my hubby that if my mother doesn't outlive me, I'm going to use my inheritance for a body make=over, A total makeover. Man, this 58 year old brain just isn't functioning right. I wanted to respond to Karri, and Ruby and Linda and Stephanie and others too but I just can't remember. One of those senior moments. ANYWAY, HAVE A GOOD NIGHT AND IF I REMEMBER WHAT I WANTED TO POST, I'LL BE BACK. JUST DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATH. WHEN IT GOES, IT USUALLY STAYS GONE. Oh yeah, I remember something. My NSV of the day. Went to Meijers and all the riding carts were being used. Got a regular push cart and did my grocery shopping the normal way. It felt pretty good. OKAY, I'M OUT OF HERE. THIS IS GETTING PRETTY LONG.
  9. Would that classify as a NSV????????? WOOT WOOT!

No running :cursing:, at least a wk. She's tiny = 4'11, 95lbs wet.....SO I get your fantastic NSV Wombat, having a tiny Mom!..Congrats to you.. So I'm not giving up - on a tad of a break, this wk only..HA!

Morning ladies, Kari - I'm sorry you had a horrible birthday. :tt2: What you need to do next year is plan your own little birthday party. Heck, you can plan a belated birthday for yourself this week!!! Book a table at your restaurant of choice, dress yourself up pretty and go and enjoy YOU. Nobody else has to come with you, but let them know of your plans and if they want to tag along, they'll have to call and add themselves to your restaurant reservations. :tt2: One of my many mantras is "if I want something done right, I'll do it myself". God knows I love the two men in my life, but if I were to suddenly fall off the face of the earth they'd be lost without me. My son probably wouldn't even realise I was gone until he ran out of clean socks and underwear. :tt2: I went "almost" shopping this weekend. "Almost" as in I almost bought something, lol. I was going to buy new jeans. Finally! And I plucked up the courage to grab some 14s and 12s off the shelf. From the NORMAL people section! :tt2: I tried the 14s on and a couple of them fit okay, except that they were a little baggy on the sides of my thighs or were too long. Then I tried on the 12s and was surprised that I was able to actually get them up AND do the button up! :tt2: They were a little more snug and I didn't like how my tummy kind of oozed over the top of them. They were low riding hipsters though and I didn't realise I'd grabbed them. Probably wasn't looking properly as it's been too long since I was in the normal section of the store. :cursing: I'm very impatient when it comes to shopping and that had run out by the time I'd tried on the 4 different pairs. But it felt wonderful being able to get into both sizes! My NSV for the weekend. Maybe next weekend I'll actually buy a pair or two. :tt2:

How much weight have you lost?????

WELL SAID Foofy!! I finally made it to the 50 lb mark and I am ecstatic:success1:.. however, the last 5 lbs took over a month to come off.. I was banded 9/26/07 and lost 15 pre-op. I definitely noticed some stalled weeks, even though my eating was the same, and I was exercising. However, I did notice the inches coming off... Went from a 24/26 jean to an 18/20! Woohoo.. a 3X shirt to 1X, and I even have a couple size 16 shirts. NSV definitely get you through the stalled scale syndrome. Everyone's body will loose weight/inches on a different timeline, and it's whatever works for you. Brenda

I am here, but I have been busy. We went shopping yesterday before our party and OMG talk about NSV's. We went to Ross to get some pants, because all of mine were starting to get to the point of putting my career on the line. I mean if they fall off when I am teaching that could put a damper on my career! So I filled up my arms with a bunch of size 12 pants and trotted off to the fitting room. By the time I finished trying them all on, I was in tears. Tears of joy that is. NONE of them fit. They were all too big. I am now in 10s. That was my original goal. I never dreamed that I could get smaller than a ten but with 24 pounds to go to get to my goal, who knows what is possible:biggrin:. So on the brag board I posted my pics along with the 10 ten things that I have learned in the last 6 months, but I want to add another one that I just thought of. Here are the original ten that I posted for those of you who don't stray from this thread often. Top ten things I have learned in 6 months 10. 650 calories takes 5 minutes to eat and 2.5 hours to work off. 9. There is NOT always room for Jello. 8. Sometimes it takes 28 years before you can finally run that mile. 7. Even if no one sees you eat it, the calories still exist. 6. Size 10 is not just for someone else. 5. A double chin is not necessary for survival. 4. I wasn't big boned...just fat. 3. The scale only gives you a number, and I am MUCH more than a number. 2. To chew or not to chew...depends on how much foam you want to spit up. And the number 1 thing that I have learned in the last 6 months... 1. To love who I have become, and to forgive myself for the past. So I think that #11 would have to be...a PB sandwich is not the same as PB'ing a sandwich! I wrote those for my non-bandster friends, but I don't think they would get #11! The party went really well and it was fun because it was on my 6 month bandiversary so I showed them my before and after and everyone was amazed. On another front, I have given up my scale. I have been obsessed with that thing for so long, so I made my BF hide it. I have accomplished so much in the last 6 months that I don't need to define myself by a number anymore. And if I am going to use a number to describe me it is going to be "10" for my clothing size. I will only weigh on my bandiversary dates (9th of each month) from here on out. I am running, holding my head high in cute clothes, and am no longer ashamed to look in a mirror...that is more important than what the scale says. I am not changing anything else. I am still going to workout like I have been, count calories like I have been, but I am not going to obsess about that damn scale. Well I have to get back to working. I still have a few things that I would like to get done before tomorrow. I will check in later. At that point I will go through and respond to everyone elses post. Man around here, you don't check in for a day or 2 and you could spend your whole afternoon responding! I love it!

    Best NSV yet!

I had a great NSV today too:) We had a local "home show", where various businesses go and show their wares, well one of our compeitors went up to my son who was minding the show today, and told him, "Man, I saw your mom in here last night and she's HOTT", can you imagine your 34 year old son passing that remark on to ya, wahoo! By the way, size 12 was my goal, not a # on the scales, love my new 12's and the new me, oh yeah, did I mention I'm 58, LOL.

Couch to 5K Anyone want to start with me ?

whosya - that is amazing!!!! You're a RockStar!! lulu - good luck w/ the knee!! Don't push it too much too soon or you'll be out of commission for longer  Mindy - I'm there with you  We CAN get back on track and get this program done! I'm determined to enjoy running by the time I'm done! Ok - little NSV today. My twin sister has always been smaller than me (ALWAYS) She is one size down from me now and that's already bugging her. Today she asked me for this jogging program and told me how much she weighs - I only weight 8 pounds more than her!!!!!!!!!!!!! She's on a mission now for me not to catch up with her but that's ok I got the band to help me out (hehehehe) I'm going to do yoga (for the first time) tonight. I bought all the goodies (much to DH's chagrin) so we'll see how it works out! Have a fabulous Sunday everyone! wombat

    Exercising

Exercise creates more energy, but it takes a long time to get to that point. I worry about how I will fit it in when I go back to work too, I know that I've just gotten up at 5.30 to run before going out on teaching rounds. If you can involve your kids then that's good for both of you, you DO have 2 days at the weekend where you've got more time, and personally, I'd buy equipment for home if I could, a treadmill or something and just get on there and DO it. Yes, its hard, yes you're exhausted but what is your ultimate goal? I found I just had to push through that kind of stuff and now that I'm really fit, its something I really WANT to do, really WANT to prioritise and I virtually never have that feeling any more. At least if you're exercising at home, you're with your kids. As you lose and get fitter you wont be so exhausted. Really, most of us should be able to work and get up to get kids to school without finding it too challenging, you just dont realise how utterly crappy and exhaused you feel when you're very overweight. I promise that horrid inertia will disappear as you get closer to your goal - in fact its probably my biggest NSV. I care more about how much more energetic, efficient and in control I am than I do about what size I'm wearing. Truly, you'll get there. In the meantime, its horrid but you just have to force yourself. There's no need to do more than four times a week, more is good, but four is more than adequate.

Good Morning Gang The site is slow this morning – it’s taking for ever – I type 3 letters and it takes 3 seconds for them to appear. Had a lot of reading to do this morning - So lets see if I can remember who said what cuz I am typing this in word and will paste on to our thread – (so my spelling should be better – but I bet I still leave words out ) Phyl- On the bra issue – I have NEVER (even at 120) been able to hook my bra from the back – to this day – I hook them in the front and then turn to put them on… Steph – On the fluffy issue – sometimes I’m gassy and other times not – but exercise is great for the potty issues – that and water I understand about exercise and 2 miles is GREAT. I went to private school as a child and we didn’t have PE in 8th grade was the 1st time I had it cuz I was in public school then (got myself kicked out of Catholic School) OMG we had these stupid monkey suits back then – these one piece bloomer like outfits – UGLY – I weighed 165 in 8th grade and was considered fat – and these outfits sure and the hell didn’t flatter my figure any.. All I can tell you is that once you start and keep doing it – it will become something you do enjoy – I promise and this is from the ultimate exercise hater. Karri – Your party must have been fun – we haven’t heard from you… Hope you aren’t working.. Linda – Since I personally have met Phyl – let me tell you – she is most likely the youngest and most energetic person I know – I think she has more get up and go than me – she really seems to enjoy life and LOVES to have fun.. She is really a great lady as we all are – and I am so happy that I have gotten to actual meet her.. I loved what you said about if you didn’t lose another pound - I love that as I sit here typing I can cross my legs too – I think that is one of the best feelings. Candice – aka Peaches – OMG we put our bras on the same way Ok – I think I have covered who has posted – but if I forgot anyone – heck I’m 53 . Went shopping yesterday – guess what – I am an official 12 – it wasn’t a fluke with the 2 pairs I bought last month – but now guess what – I can fit a size 10 pants – still XL on tops…… I was trying on a pair of white capri’s and the 12 fit very well – so much that I know that after I wear them they will loosen up – so I had my gf bring me a size 10 – they fit – a itty bitty tight but after they are worn they will be fine- I can tell you one thing I didn’t care what the price was I was buying them… – I haven’t worn a 10 since my early 20’s before the weight came back on (I was thin from 16 – 24) NSV – I was up at 5 to the gym 2 miles – picked up house - picked up girlfriend drove out of town – ate breakfast – shopped and tried on TONS of clothes – walked this huge mall and was tired of trying on clothes by the time we left (5 p.m) but I was not tired – My feet were not killing me and I still had energy… Ok – I got one bra yesterday & it was a 38 – but think I should be aiming for a 36 cuz I am hooking the 38’s on the 1st hook – so I am going to the mall today and look some more – trying on bra’s was the last thing we did yesterday and I was tried of looking at my naked body – I have some terribly saggy skin and even with a proper fitting bra I still have rolls – it’s the skin being saggy not so much the fat… Well – I am just going to have to quit being so critical of myself – I am 53 not 35 – it is what it is and I am just going to have to get over it.. Well, gotta get dressed – Will ck in later

GOOD EVENING EVERYONE I want to thank everyone here for all the birthday greetings and the encouragement you've given me. Seems like every so often I need a good swift kick in the a$$. We just got back from visiting the grandkids. Took us twice as long to get home cause of the weather, but it was worth it. Those little ones just light up my world, even when the little one (5mos) took one look at me and screamed till I left the room. I finally got a smile out of her. My daughter and SIL took us out to dinner for my birthday and I have to admit that I really shouldn't have been able to eat all I did. Rib-eye steak, garlic-asiago mashed tatos mm-m-m-m-m Skipped desert though. And my NSV? After dinner we went to Meijer's (like walmart) and we walked around the store. Yes, WALKED. No carts were available so I walked. Well, I still have a lot to do tonight and the night is almost over. THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL THE ENCOURAGEMENT. HAVE A GREAT NIGHT AND TALK TO YOU ALL TOMORROW.

Not too wordy at all!! Great NSV!! Congrats to you!! We need encouraging news like that.... some of our gals are getting discouraged. Each one's accomplishments are encouragement for ALL of us. Thanks for sharing that!! I love the new photo, by the way. What a cute little guy!! Sorry about your cold weather!! Not to make you feel bad, but the past two days have been the best so far this winter and today it's supposed to be near 80 degrees!! We actually ate dinner out on the patio last night! It's been such a chilly, rainy, windy winter that we are overdue for some warmth and sunshine!!
