I really need help and advice

Well first of all you have lost 45 pounds. That is great. It has not been easy but you did it. That said, it sounds like you are getting close to your "sweet spot" but not there yet. Is there another dr affiliated with your dr so maybe you could see that dr instead of the one you are seeing now? Your current doc doesn't sound like she is trying to work with you. Have you told her how you feel? It may not change anything but it couldn't hurt. I can only say that you may have to really speak up for yourself. If she says things about you sneaking m&m's that is a real insult and I would tell her so. If you get a fill and within 2 weeks you still fill nothing call her up and tell her that it isn't working. Ask her what she suggests. I know how hard it is to stand up for yourself cos a lot of us overweight girls just have that problem. But you are a new you now. If you don't speak up and try to get some satisfaction she probably will continue to treat you the same way. Also, I have found what I eat makes a big difference in how long I can go without being hungry. I try to eat foods that "stick" with me for a while. I really like diced chicken breast with a little mayo and just about a half an ounce of fat free refried beans. I can go for hours and I haven't eaten 300 calories! I have hunted around on the internet and on this site too for food ideas. Also, is there a nutritionist affiliated with your dr who can give you an idea of what may help as far as foods that keep you full longer? I am just trying to think of things that will help you. So many people have helped me in the 7 months since I've had lap band, I want to help now too. Let me know if there is any thing else I can do to help. You are not alone. Hang in there. I will keep my eye out for your postings and try to help. Pam

    Somebody talk me down!

I am 67 days post-OP and only 25 pounds down since surgery. That makes a total of 95 pounds down total, but I have a long way to go, as I was 399 when I started this weight loss journey. I'm a little discouraged by the slow pace of my post-op weight loss. I keep telling myself that slow and steady wins the race , blah, blah, blah, but I thought it would come off a lot faster. I have been following the plan, but the Easter candy is starting to look so tempting. I was told that right after surgery, you couldn't help but lose weight. That it would just drop off. Well I was losing about a pound a day for two weeks or so and then I had a two week stall. I even gained 5 pounds eating 600-700 calories a day. Some days I couldn't even get up to 600. Unfilled And Scared

I'm taking it week by week right now. I am trying to learn to allow myself to eat appropriatly. I bought a pair of size 14 jeans today though! Also I am able to get in good workouts at the gym now that I am actually eating.
  4. I'm 9 months out and have lost a total of 114 lbs (30 or so before surgery). It's very slow now... 2-3 lbs per month. The doctor said that's normal, but it's still hard to take after losing so much so fast! I need to step up my exercise a bit and see if that helps get me going. I'd like to lose at least 10 lbs more.
  5. Well folks, we made it:thumbup:. Who would have thought 3 months ago that we would have made it to where we are today? I hope everyone is doing great and is happy with their progress so far. I couldn’t be happier:biggrin:. I am on my second fill and am down over 60 pounds (BMI is now under 30). I’m not done, but I definitely see a light at the end of the tunnel. I am fitting into clothes I haven’t worn in years, people are really noticing the weight loss, and unlike any diet in the past I feel satisfied (from a hunger perspective) most of the time. I feel like I am really starting to know how to interact with the band inside me. How are you doing?
  6. I was also banded in February and am down 70lbs! I have had two fills but they really have not helped yet. My third fill is this week and hopefully I will be able to rely on a little more help then just willpower! I went through my closet yesterday and realized I bypassed alot of clothes. I am thrilled that I have passed my half way point and can't wait to get down to my weight. I have not been this low since early 1994 and people are starting to notice. As for missing foods, yes I do miss some favorites but I don't really deisre to eat them anymore. My desire is to lose weight now Good luck to us all
  7. Hey guys, just wondering what your weight loss is after 6 months. I am 6 months out now and have lost 95 pounds so far, but the last few months it has been dragging. I still eat between 600 - 1100 calories a day. Most days I get 80g + of protein and keep my carbs under 30g. I exercise a few days a week and stay very active. I wear about a size 16 now (started at a 24). I would like to lose another 70 - 75 lbs, but would be happy with 50. I am going to change up my exercise routine tomorrow to see if that helps. I have been doing lots of walking and c25k. I'm going to start aerobics and weight training tomorrow and aim to do that 4 days a week. In my head I know I will lose more weight eventually, but I still get scared that this is it. How is everyone else doing?

There will be frequent stalls along the way, make sure you are following your surgeon's and/or dietician's guidelines and you should be fine, weight loss will catch up. If you need to refer back to your dietician for assistance.
  9. I have 3 kids and I cook dinner every night. I eat the same as they do with some slight modifications. For example tonight we are having Pasta Bolognese. I plan on removing a bit of the meat sauce and add just a very small amount of pasta. I need more meat then pasta. Then I'll add all the pasta to the sauce for them. Garlic bread, I won't have any, but I might try a tiny bit, the size of a finger nail. I'll have a 1/4 of a fig for desert if there's room left in my pouch. The rest of the family will have figs drizzled with honey and cheese for desert. Yesterday with had baked wild cod with a bread crumb crust and steamed veggies. It scrapped the crust of the fish for my portion and I left a small amount of veggies in the steamer and additional 5 minutes so they would be softer for me. What I am trying to say is it can work. Even when we have french fries, I'll have a 1/4 of a fry with my Protein portion of the meal and instead of a vegetable I'll have a fruit. Usually a single grape, lol. My pouch is that small but I do get a bite or two of a vegetable or a fruit with every meal. I find I make better choices for my family now. Everybody wins.

    What Are Slimes?

yup...my mouth started watering, I had the feeling I should not eat or drink anything else... OR swallow the saliva... I started spitting until the slime and saliva event was over. This only happened once in the hospital and once at home the first week. It did not hurt ... just YUCK. Nothing came up from my stomach...

WLS and Kids in Our Lives

I have always been big on cooking my family home cooked meals. Actually in my preop visits my nut and I discussed this Many times. My surgery was the week of thanksgiving, I actually came home on thanksgiving night and my main concern with having it that week was that I am the family cook! My husband and I each have a daughter, mine is 8 and his is 5. Mine is with us full time and his is half of the time. It has taken my step-daughter years to learn that will not get macaroni and cheese for every meal at our home. One day when I asked her what ideas she had for dinner she said 1) corn dogs! 2) macaroni and cheese with hot dogs 3) spaghetti-o's....my response was well we do not buy those items for our house, but I will gladly make spaghetti. (Note: we have one child that will eat ANYTHING.....olives, loves beets, Brussels sprouts, radishes, etc. but she is a horrible sleeper....and one child will go to bed and not get up until you wake her up but that chuld will not eat much of anything, God thinks it is funny I am sure) As a family we have meals that everyone loves like spaghetti, chili of any variety, chicken pot pie with homemade biscuits, biscuits and gravy with eggs, mini pizzas(so everyone gets what they like), egg scramble bowls, French toast sticks, and lasagna soup. Now, from a Bari standpoint I am only on puréed foods however we spent months changing our eating habits as a whole family prior to my surgery. We started last winter to make vegetarian chili with four kinds of beans and three kinds of peppers, my kids always take seconds on that. My pantry NO LONGER has a snack section in it like it did before. My daughter loves popcorn and I never have so I keep bags of it on hand for her as a snack when she wants something during movie night. No temptation there. I buy the girls true moo single serve ice cream cups in chocolate vanilla swirl for desserts if I don't make one, that also doesn't temp me because I've always been high maintenance in ice cream....hagan daas, coffee, rum raisin, dove bars. My husband is a cheese and cracker snack kind of man and when I am allowed to have cheese again, I will share that pleasure with him one little piece at a time. Tonight I made turkey chili with two kinds of beans for added protein, and I puréed my portion and added a small amount of cheddar to melt into it, it was delicious. Do I miss corn bread? Yes! But I do NOT miss taking five pills after my dinner so it is well worth the trade off! I hope this helps, and if anyone needs any recipes I will gladly start sharing! Happy LOSING!!!!

    Drinking

I think I was done baby sipping after the first week. At 3 weeks out, I still don't take big gulps. I do drink at a regular pace though, and have no problem finishing a 16oz bottled water in under 5 minutes. I was drinking beverages of all temperatures at about 3 days post op as well. I did not like drinking beverages at room temperature, and found that I drank more when my beverages were cold. Warm water has always made me nauseous anyway.
  13. I had that feeling too...it went away after a few weeks. Personally I think its probably due to swelling. I had no hernias or anything else repaired .
  14. Please tell me this feeling goes away... I am 16 days post-op and when i eat no matter how much or how little, I feel like I have a lump in my throat that the food can't get past. I'm on mostly mushy food now and it's uncomfortable for me to eat. Does this have to do with my hiatal hernia repair? Does it go away? Anyone else have this problem? Also the scale hasn't moved in a week!! I'm only getting about 800 calories a day! Shouldn't I still be losing something?

    Weight Lose per week

2lb per week is pretty average from what I can tell. I was 310 lb on the day of my surgery on 1st March 2018 (38 weeks ago) and I have lost on average 3.17lb per week. With my best week (surgery week) being (6.4lb) and my worst being (0.3) (about 5 weeks ago). Everyone looses at different rates, I think the important thing is your trend. If you are loosing constantly thats what you really want. Just keep doing what you are doing and you will get to your goal.

    Surgery Tomorrow Morning!

Good luck!!! Mine is this Friday and I'm already nervous. I've been on a clear liquid diet for 6 days 3 days left!!!!
  17. I am not sure where this post went but it was originally posted at 7:21 am this morning and now it is gone from the forum wall. I am concerned as it has been almost 2 yrs and I have never had any issues with my band but then of course I have never in the 2 yrs been this snug.. I do experience burping that produces phlegm and in the middle of the night I get some of the taste of what I had to eat last. This is crazy I get to my sweet spot and now I think I might actually be way to tight. Please read on and any input would be great. Thanks so much. original post below there has been verbiage added to the post. My band hurts in the morning when I first get up and try to drink my coffee. I had it tightened a couple weeks back and it still seems to be very very tight. As the days go on I can eat, drink but wow it is snug. More so then it has been in the two years I have had it actually. I am self pay and the cost of each visit it expensive and being unemployed is rough so I just left it tighter and hoped it would loosen up in time. I guess two weeks is not long enough, it kind of feels like I have a hair ball in my throat. ..lol Have any of you ever had this issue? The band is really working because when I try to over eat it will back up, and ohhhhh my gosh I have had things stuck and how painful is that? And any liquid with bubbles totally forget that! Michele

    Nike+ ?

I just started the Couch to 5k last week and now I have the Nike+ Sport band which I am LOVIN'. I see they have group challenges and stuff you can set up, so I thought it would be fun to do that with my fab febs if anyone wants!
  19. I'm 15 weeks out and craving a burger really bad. I don't have restriction either. I'm going to order a small one tonight and eat a little of it anyway....I've got to get it out of my system!

    Worried About Wife

I think you have a right to be worried. It sounds like she is developing some very dangerous habits. Try to get her family doctor involved. She should go in for a checkup that includes a urine test (to check for dehydration), as well as bloodwork that tests for vitamin deficiencies. If the doctor finds things wrong, then it is medical advice she is exposed to, rather than a nagging husband I'm 3 months postop, and eat/drink ALL THE TIME.. and my bloodwork just came back . Deficient in vit. D and A. A!!!! You know.. carrots! Craziness. You did right, looking around for help. [Pat on the back]..

    Worried About Wife

I respectfully disagree. 2oz, twice a day is wholey insufficient for 7 months postop. She should be eating at least 4oz at a time, 3-5 times a day. Not necessarily 4oz of solid steak, but at least 4oz of soup and the like (shoot, how about 8oz soup!) Of course, it's hard to tell how much she's eating for those snacks, but the snacks don't have protein, so she isn't meeting that requirement. It is hard to get 60+ grams of protein a day (unless she's drinking protein shakes), and she is in no way getting it. She won't be growing muscles, unless she consumes the protein to fuel their growth. Simple as that. If she complains of being full after 2 oz of something soft, she needs to see her surgeon again to be evaluated for a stricture.
  22. My question to the ones that have had the surgery already is.... How often do you workout and is it easy for you to lose the weight quicker after having the surgery compared to doing it on your own? I've been watching youtube videos and no one mentions working out just eating better and then the ups and downs after the surgery. I know there will be ups and downs. I eat healthy now and I workout 5-6 times a week so I'm used to it for after the surgery.

    Sleeping sitting up

I slept in a recliner for the first two nights. After that I was able to sleep lying down, but had to be careful for the first couple of weeks not to move around as I tend to roll a bit when sleeping and this caused discomfort with the suture areas. I know it's a challenge but once things healed a bit the issues for me went away fairly quickly.
  24. Being short and fat has been an exceptional challenge. The wider my waist had gotten, the more difficult it is to reach things; up in the cupboards, etc. because my large belly reduced my arm's length by about 3 inches. Also being short, I think I have a short esophagus because I feel full very fast as it is, sometimes the food just feels stuck. But this is a symptom that started after my waist expanded. Has anyone else ever experienced this?

    Resolution of IBS

I had it as well probably 3 days a week on average. The worst part was the fear. I couldn't eat anything before a flight or important meeting. It was horrible. I haven't had one single issue since surgery 16 months ago. I would do it all over again just for that. I was self pay so I feel like I got a bonus. I no longer carry diarrhea medicine in my purse. I am no longer afraid to live my life. And living it as a size 0 is icing on the cake. ~LA
