  1. I have 2 girls 10 and 11 and they always leave food on their plate. When are you scheduled for surgery? Every surgeon is different, my surgeon said the preop diet is not necessary and he's a top bariatric surgeon in Boston. He said he can get to the stomach no matter what and he doesnt think we need the added stress before surgery. I will have Clear liquids the day before and since I started 6 months ago the nut had had me make many changes, one at a time so they stick with me. No diet whatsoever, but lifestlye changes.

  3. Im going to Transformations. I had to do a 6 months diet plan because of my insurance (BCBSAL). Had my 6th visit 10/15/13, go bk 11/4/13 for final weigh in . I have done everything required (PCP letter, blood work, psyc eval) and waiting on an all day class I have to attend. My dietitian say my surgery should be sometime in Nov.

    Tomorrow Makes 1 week

    Yes its normal to be able to feel it, more so in the mornings and just after youve eaten/drink, after a while you wont notice it, but in about 4 more weeks if it still feels weird talk to your doctor, they may need to adjest it, if you hve any worries always talk to your doctor, but you should be fine once you've completet healed. and 10 pounds is still a lot, remember its a process thats going to take months even years to reach your goal and maintaine it, good luck to you and be proud that youve taken the first step to the new you.

    Has any one lost friends since wls?

    I had one friend who is also big. When I first mentioned the surgery to her when I was thinking about it, she asked a few questions and then never said another word...after telling me she would never do something like that. She didnt talk to me for quite a while. The next time I heard from her (app 1 month) I had had the op and lost 10 kg. I never mentioned the op and she never asked until a week or more after that. Again she asked me a few questions and told me how she would never do that, she talked to me in a very condescending tone and threw a few sarcastic remarks in and left. She has not contacted me since...3 months. I am upset, but think if thats how much our friendship meant to her then so be it. I could have really used her by my side a few times over the last few months.

    A Dang Cookie Rant

    Cindy, So sorry about the Cookies. It is frustrating isn't it. These bands truly have a mind of their own. I've been making some bad choices lately because I have very little restriction. I am going for a fill tomorrow. Last night I ate too fast and didn't chew well and I had my worst stuck experience. I actually put some meat tenderizer in Water and drink a little. I think it helped. It lasted about 10 - 15 minutes. I still have not PB'd. Of course, after that episode I am nervous about the fill but I know I need it. I hope the healthy stuff starts going down a little easier.

    Someone finally noticed!!!!!!

    2 of my colleagues (the ones who know about the surgery) and I actually have an office pool going as to which of my other (10 or so) colleagues will say something first. I think people notice before they're actually willing to say something; weight being such a sensitive issue and all. At least I hope that's the reason they haven't said anything and not that they haven't noticed! Congratulations Jlogantx!

    Easter in Mexico!

    I made it to the Marriott . It's beautiful . Samuel was at airport within 10 minutes after I called him. Very very nice guy. He got us checked in to hotel and confirmed Rosie was coming to hotel before he left. Rosie was at my room within the hour explaining some things about getting ready for tomorrow. They are on the ball!!!! We have to be in lobby at 6am to go to hospital. So hopefully early surgery. All I have to do now is order my broth, Popsicle, water and relax. I forgot my comb and hair brush and the tsa agent took my mouse. So my heads gonna be a hot mess. Lol say a prayer for us Easter sleevers. I hope pantala and Parker are doing well.

    I dunno, I can show you pics from me being born compared to my siblings, and despite being 2lbs smaller than my brother, I looked like a 'fat' baby compared to normal baby fat.. then from 1,2,3,4,5,6-etc.. I was always a large kid.. Fat & tall. Both my siblings ended up fat & tall eventually (like after the 10 year old phase I guess you guys are talking about), but they were both bean poles growing up. I was never a bean pole, I was 5 years old and my mom had to hand-make dresses for me because she couldn't find anything to fit me, by about 8 years old I was wearing old womens clothing because they did not make plus-childrens clothing.(I have plenty of fun pics of my spandex shorts, with long old women shirts with sequins all over and shoulder pads) Then in 4th grade I found men's pants and shirts that fit. When I was in 8th grade my mom found plus size 'trendy' clothes that would fit me via the internet. I have a painting my nanny did of me in 1st grade, and I was wearing this hideous zebra print shirt, made for women. With my 2 front teeth missing and all that fun stuff.

    Jacqui, I agree with you. Unless they (government) are looking at it as just a monitoring process to see what happens with these kids. I do know in my own family, when you look at pictures of my mom and sister as babies, they were already fat. Now my mom is one of 8 and only her other sister (6 boys!) had/have weight problems. My sister is younger than I am and we both ate the same foods. She was born a normal, healthy weight (we were both within ounces of each other) but by the time she was a year, she was a fat baby. Me, on the other hand, had NO weight issues (other than my own perception of being the smallest fattie in a family of fatties, when I was anything BUT fat) until I hit my 20's. Then I started gaining. My mom and sister both had bypass 5 and 8 years ago. Both had tried everything to lose weight. Nothing worked for them. They couldn't even LOSE weight! They both have done great with their surgeries. My sister has had 3 more kids since her surgery. I was able to lose weight but couldn't keep it off. DD was adopted and I have no clue about her birthfather, but her birthmother's family is all normal sized with a few minor weight issues (say 10-20 over weight, kinda thing). Even at 2 she loves sports and being active so I'm hoping just by teaching her well, how to eat and how to be active (and getting healthy myself) that even if she does end up with some extra weight, she'll be able to control it and not have serious issues. We'll see. Anyway, just a picture of my family. Kind of both sides of the coin that Jacqui was talking about. Sorry it's so long. I talk too much! LOL!

    My First Emotional Breakdown

    I'm so glad that I am cheap! Seriously, I think that, in it self has helped me in this process. I never was willing to spend 5dollars+ on popcorn. And now when I go into a restaurant all I can think of is "Am I really gonna spend 10-15 on a meal when 1/2 will end up in the trash, & 2/3 of the other half will be leftovers?" Who would have thought that being frugal would make getting healthy easier??

    Turning lemons into lemonade! Great recipe

    Yesterday I was so bad! I think I ate everything in site! I just had one of those days. I am not going to be down on myself about it! Although I did gain a pound! Damn it! So today I woke up with a positive mindset, I am off work today and headed to my mom's. She's got a pool so I am going to do a ton of laps and stay on my diet! I did discover that I love "splenda blend" it is splenda and sugar together. It only has 10 calories! It is great in coffee. I also have a great recipe to share if anyone wants a good drink! It's just lemonade but it taste like it has 1000 calories but it has 0! It's just fresh squeezed lemons, splenda, ice and water. Combine until it is to your particular taste. I like I whole lemon, 2 tbs splenda, ice and 16oz water. Stay strong everyone!

    My orders were No drinking 5 minutes before or 45 minutes after eating. The reason for this is the Fluid will wash the food out of your sleeve and you won't feel full for as long which may lead to grazing and eating too much because you're hungry all the time. There are actually YouTube videos that demonstrate how this works. In the beginning this won't be a problem. Your tiny tummy will get full so fast on so little food that drinking too soon will actually make you vomit. But as time goes on, it often just becomes a new habit you don't even have to think about. That being said, once I was in maintenance and well below goal I quit following this rule. My tummy had more room for both food and liquid after about 10 months and personally, I get hungry every 2-3 hours whether I drink or not. The key is just not to overeat. But in general, the no drinking rule is something that should be followed for life.

    it's not an overnight process. you have already lost 15 pounds in 2 1/2 weeks. that's impressive! i had my surgery on 7/10 and have lost 15 pounds as well. i've never lost weight that quickly doing atkins, medifast, or any other diet so i'm happy. just keep following your directions and it will come off!!! hang in there!
  19. So I can't believe I posted something about periods this morning when my mums doing pretty badly. I am 5 weeks post op today and doing absolutely fine, low energy, struggle to drink enough, not enough Protein all the usual but fine. My mum is 2 weeks post op today, I feel guilty as hell because we both wanted it but I went ahead with it first as she was a little unsure. Once she saw that I was fine she decided to go ahead, I did tell her that mum you're seeing just the benefits and you're not hearing me whine and complain. Mums been feeling terrible she was doing okay for the first 10 days or so but since Wednesday she said it feels like something is stuck and she's been woken up in the middle of the night to be sick, feeling feverish, abdominal area and back hurting. We've just been to see our doc and he didn't give a clear answer however he was panicking and booked her for a CT scan and he made her get bloods made her jump the wait and has fast tracked her results and wants them ASAP. I'm scared, feel guilty, tired, stressed and possibly maybe wanna cry! She did have an ultrasound this afternoon that came back ok. I just don't know what to think.....

  21. Hi Everybody~ I was banded 28 December 2010. Have been thinking about it a few years, since my mother had it done at age 65, 4 years ago. I'm excited to finally have it done and ready to start losing. I'm 5'9" and my highest weight, a few months ago, was 338. I was 319 day of surgery. I have no idea what I've lost so far because my scale changes up to 15 lbs just depending where it is on my floor!! I did a 2 week pre-op liquid diet and the first few days after banding was all liquid, but then I tried some soft foods, chewed well, and they went down fine, so then I tried more. So far, everything has went down well, and I was starting to wonder if the band was really there! Then yesterday, I tried eating some chicken, forgot what I was doing, and ate fast, not chewing well, and by the second bite I had a rude awakening...it got stuck and felt very uncomfortable. It went away after about 10 minutes, and I was able to continue eating a little more, very carefully, chewing a million times. In the literature I was given, it has 4 phases of diet to go through, but the discharge nurse said progress in the diet as I am able, so I did. Have any of you went to solids that quickly and is all ok? I don't want to jeapordize any thing, but it seems fine. I return on January13 for my first fill, so I'm sure it will be different then..... And another question, how do you guys get those stats and measuring sticks at the bottom of your posts? Happy New Year everybody!
  22. Well I dont think anyone here has thoguht about what she is actually drinking. Both shakes are high in sugar compaired to what is on our Lists from the nutritionists. My nutritionist told me that I have to stay away from Boost, Glurcerna, Slim fast, carnation, Ensure because they are low in protien and high in sugar. They dont fill you up and cause a sugar crash and headache, ect. What you should be using is something under 10 gms of sugar, and over 20 grams of protien. Fiber around 3-5 grams a plus. There are many great tasting affrodable shakes. I personally love Met-Rx Protien Plus vanilla and Muscle Milk Cookies & Cream. Go to www.bariatricadvantage.com and check out some better options.   23. Thank you all for your helpful suggestions. It really does help to hear what other people see of my situation. I have already gotten rid of cable TV, that was my big eating downfall. So now I get three channels and don't watch much of it anymore. I understand that WoW is just another addiction. I can see that. But what happens when I have no tv and no computer game to occupy the down time I do have in between working, working out and meal planning and preparing (I prepare my meals for the week for lunch and dinner on Sunday). I am a compulsive shopper, which has gotten me into a lot of trouble, and I think I have that under control now, I used to drink and smoke a lot, but have thankfully given that up, and I used to watch a lot of tv and don't do that anymore. I'm afraid that if I quit WoW also, I'll be left with another void and I'll fall into another bad habit, which could be even worse for my health. I am thinking about cutting out the "required" wow playing, which is called raiding, but keeping the account open so that I can play on the weekends or on the rare occassion I do have down time during the week. It is a different game that way, and prehaps I'll lose interest entirely, eventually, but leaving myself with nothing much else to do, would probably be just as bad of an idea. I got up this morning at 6 (will work my way up to 4 before January 1) and I worked out. It was only 10 minutes, but I haven't worked out in months and I will ramp up as I go. Our next support meeting is the first Wed. in January, so I will resolve to go to that. And in the meantime, I will try to figure out what else I enjoy that I can do in my spare time, once wow is completely gone from my life. But I need to have a solid plan so I don't fall into something else more harmful. Thanks again for the support.
