  1. I have been on my pre op diet for about six weeks and managed to lose about 20 lbs. But my scales have not moved hardly at all in the last 2 weeks...I mean maybe an ounce here or there but that's it. My pre op consists of 2 high Protein shakes and one meal of salad and lean meat. My thyroid tested within range so it can't be that. It's weird because I can see weight loss in my face and body and feel it in my clothes too. I'm due to have my bypass next week on the 29th and I'm hoping I'm still won't continue this stall. I expect I'll probably gain some weight due to anesthesia and Fluid retention. But I hope it won't continue too far out. It's probably just the affects of a VLCD.....agh! Did any of you guys have this problem? Xxx
  2. Hi, I have my first appt with Dr Reich's office on Monday. I'm concerned if I'm even going to qualify due to my 2008 & 2009 weights being just under a 35 BMI. MY current weight is over a 35 and I have diabetes (not insulin dependent), high triglicerides & hypothyroidism. Can you tell me about his staff and he does the pre & post op diet, also how soon do you get fills after surgery? I've also read a lot about bandsters not being able to swallow pills anymore. Does Dr Reich say no to this as well? Thanks so much!

Help acid reflux and gurgling after weight gain

Your band will not increase restriction following weight gain. However it is not good having avid reflux at night. I suggest that you should have a substantial aspiration to rest the band as you could possibly have a dilated pouch. Sent from my SM-G930F using BariatricPal mobile app
  4. Hi I'm about 3.5 years out of surgery .since last fill Ive lost about 50 pounds in total But in the last 8 months I've gained about 10 pounds. I now have slime backing up if I eat too quick and some acid back flush through the night, and some weird noisy burping and gurgling noises coming from the throat can the band tighten up through weight gain ? reasons for gain are sliders lots of business meals and lots of long haul flying any comments welcome
  5. @@byako First I'd like to say you're doing well by really thinking about this decision rather than jumping into it without doing your research and addressing your issues with food.....The big thing to remember is this surgery does not do anything to your brain....only your stomach. It's your job to address the brain issues with therapy or whatever it takes....You must have your head in the game in order to be successful....So take your time and do some sole searching and determine if you're ready to make the changes necessary to be successful. Now to address your other questions. It seems like everyone has a different plan....so try not to be discouraged....My plan doesn't have any food on a "never again" list. During the weight loss phase it's very low carb, with no breads, or starches like rice, Pasta, or potatoes.....But once I'm at my goal weight I am to slowly add in the whole grains and starches...being careful to maintain....(gotta find the sweet spot).....After goal and maintaining my weight is the scary part for me...but I'll get it figured out by the time I get there. I just don't think I'll want to add back foods that I know are a big part of putting me in this position in the first place.....we shall see! The only things I can think of that are forever are no drinking while you're eating, always eat Protein first....and eat slowly.....and no grazing! Oh and yes taking Vitamins for here on out is required. I hope this helps you in making your decision. Kathy
  6. If you follow the protocol as close to the letter as you possibly can, stay active, and stay away from the scales - anything, any size is possible! Trust the process and trust your body to find its own way in its own time. You can't rush it. It's great to have a goal to work toward but even better to understand that your body will tell you when its at the right weight for you. Listen to it. There is no one size fits all. You're gonna love the new you!!
  7. Hey guys, For those that are maintaining their goal weight, what was the one thing that was key in your weight loss and maintenance? For me it was ditching the "white" stuff (sugar, wheat, bread, Pasta, rice, Cookies, artificial sugar, flour etc.) I thought it would be interesting to see if there are any similarities in our success strategies. weird dream!

Had a weird dream last night... I was running !!! not from someone, or something, but for the enjoyment of the thing!!! I can't remember when i last ran for fun...or COULD run for that matter. But it looked fun and FELT fun!. So looking forward to losing my weight andd getting back to LIVING life for a change! Day 2 of shakes 3 times a day...this is gonna be a LOOOONNNGGG 2 weeks...but i'm worth it! Another good note: Just found out that the rig i work on supplies us with the protien shake powder i need...for FREE! thats really cool of em. We have a group that comes out here from Canada, called DEFINITIONS. they are wellness and fitness guys,NUTs and personal trainers. they are gonna work on a workout plan and food plan just for me, and my new unique eating requirements. pretty cool for a good ol' rig hand like myself. learning to stay out of the galley(Dining room for you landlubbers)....Temptation island for a professional eater like myself!!! have a nice day and HAPPY SLEEVING! Dave
  9. There isn't one. Everyone's process is different. Everyone's stalls are caused by different things. The best answer is, make sure you are tracking EVERYTHING. Make sure you are exercising. Make sure you know your BMR (and pay attention to it since it changes as you age and lose weight) and that you are coming in under your BMR daily. And if you are only tracking your weight, and not body fat %, you are missing out on a pretty important measurement. If you are working out, you can lose fat and gain weight.

    How do you know?

I feel like you do. Should have lost more by now. Most of my weight loss was presurgery too. Hoping for a fill next week. Had my first stuck today. But I am never full. I can eat much more than one cup.
  11. My nut says things like don't focus on Protein so much and you'll get it in. Or I'll ask what stage is next and she'll say...we'll see! Needless to say i'm in the process of getting another one. But in the meantime I would love your help. Question 1: How many carbs should we intake to continue weight loss at 4 weeks? Question 2: How much calories and Water intake is ideal for weight loss at 4 weeks? Question 3: Do we need certain amount of fat grams too? What are some of your daily diets consisting of (7am-bedtime timeline) so i can get an idea of proper foods and time management.. I know for someone who researched for 6months before having this surgery i sound clueless but the diet after was never made clear... Thanks for your help.
  12. My boyfriend and oldest daughter are not supportive either. My middle daughter is going to Mexico with me along with my dad who is very worried. My oldest thinks you can just diet and exercise and lose the weight with no problem. They just don't understand. My boyfriend is worried also and doesn't think I'm fat. He's super skinny and doesn't understand being overweight. They will come around and be happy for you when you look and feel great later.

    Hernia repair/Vsg

I have good insurance but there's a specific exclusion for weight-loss surgery. I've read about people having a hernia repair covered by insurance and paying the difference out-of-pocket to have weight-loss surgery done at the same time making the out-of-pocket costs significantly lower. *no it's not insurance fraud since there is a legitimate medical procedure that insurance is approving surgery for My question is how do I go about finding a doctor that's willing to do that? How do I get a doctor to even test for a hernia in the first place? Just call and ask?? I'm in Colorado and have only seen mention of this practice in Texas.

    Psychiatric Evaluation?

i was very concerned about my psych eval. i am treated for generalized anxiety. i am one of many who didn't even have to take a test (MMPI). The psych asked me questions regarding my ability to follow pre and post op instructions, then wrote a letter regarding how (my weight) affected me emotionally and any attempts made in the past at weight loss. done in 30 mins and the letter was faxed from his office to my surgeon that afternoon. i also do not believe that being treated for depression while going through a divorce is going to prevent you from getting the procedure. it simply shows that, like WLS, you are being proactive in your health, both mental and physical. Good Luck!

    Yahoo!!! 70 pounds, Baby!

Wow that is just fantastic! That is such an awesome amount of weight to loose. Celebrate
  17. So I'm officially 18 lbs down today and thought I'd throw some non-scale victories out there. The numbers are important to me, but never as important as what I can do with my new body. Here are just a few of the cool things I've experienced so far... walking upstairs is easier. I live in a 2nd story apartment and huff and puff just a little less when coming home. Also my knees hurt less when I walk downstairs. arms now lay against my sides. This is a crazy one. I have HUGE upper arms, like a freakin' 49er linebacker. Alright, maybe an exaggeration but you get my drift. With all the fat between my upper arms, breasts and midsection they never layed flat by my side when I stood up straight. This is now not the case. My favorite blouses look better on me. I brought this blouse down to Mexico with me for my surgery. Turned out I didn't have to wear it becuase I had enough clothes and basically hung around the hotel the entire time. But took it out last week to wear and it looked terrific! This is a shirt I bought when I was 190 lbs, but it didn't look good when I'd gotten back to 235 lbs. Now it looks awesome and I can start wearing it out again! hubby is all frisky now. He's really noticed the weight come off. He says I have a waist again and it's really sexy. I catch him staring at me sometimes and it's actually kind of freaky, but very cool. I have to get used to it again. :-) He bought me a fantastic bracelet to Celebrate 21 days of bandsterville. He's so proud of me for having the courage to do it. Once Aunt Flo goes home, I've got something for him as well. ;-D My fave pajama pants are helluv loose. They practically fall off of me now. It's just a cool thing I've noticed. :-) can sit with knee against my chest. I like sitting with my knees against my chest but my stomach has always been too fat. Now that it's going down in size I can do it. I have a long way to go before its completely comfortable though. But happy so far!

My doctor thinks my band erroded

I really have no idea. I have an appt with a GI on May 5th. I guess after that we can set up an endoscopy and I'll get some concrete answers. I just don't understand it. I was so successful with the band. When I lost my restriction back in Sept I complained but my doctor wasn't concerned because I was at goal weight. He gave me a small fill but I never felt it. Now I'm wondering if this could have been diagnosed earlier. I just can't imagine losing the band. My weight has been up and down my whole life. I finally found something that I thought was the aswer and now that is probably NOT the case.
  19. I had my surgery in December 2004 and I've been doing very well with my band. I weighed 205 when I was banded and I made it down to 124 lbs. Over the summer I experienced severe restriction without having a fill. My doctor removed the fill and waited a couple of weeks then gave me a very small fill. This was in Sept. After my small fill I never felt the restriction. I started to put some weight on. I went back to the doctor, scheduled another fill and went in today. It was under flouro and we both watched as he filled me up and I had no restriction. He thinks my band erroded and now I have to an endoscopy. I'm so worried because I finally reached my goal weight and my doctor doesn't seem like he's willing to have me rebanded if my band erroded. I still don't know for sure but there really is no other explaination. I'm just devasted.

    CPAP Issues

It is also possible that you have lost enough weight in your face that your mask is no longer fitting you properly. Have you tried adjusting it? Ultimately, a new sleep study would be the way to go, but you might be able to play around with the mask and get it to fit better and if your machine can be changed as far as pressure, then you might try what Hubie said.
  21. Mine was super quick and easy. Just a casual conversation with her about my weight history, my diet history, and what I thought was causing me to be overweight. My answer was simple as well, I eat too much! That was it in a nutshell for me, no issues from childhood, no real emotional eating, just president of the Clean Your Plate club -- Thanks Dad! LOL

Please recommend a COMFORTABLE, WIDE Bicycle seat

I hope to join your thread soon after I have surgery which is on the 2nd of Sept. Thanks for the invite. I noticed you had your surgery on my daughters birthday. You've done quite well with losing weight. Aside from the band, what else do you attribute your weight loss success to? Congrats!

    CPAP Issues

They REALLY don't want people adjusting their own CPAPS. but it can take a month or more just to get into a sleep study, and then another 2-4 weeks for the evaluation to come back and tell you wha tit should be. And by then you'll have lost even MORE weight and it'll STILL be wrong. Long ago I did a google search on the make/model of my cpap and found a comment on a forum that shows the magical key-combination to change my pressure. I never set it above a certain pressure, but I set it lower if I know it needs to be lower. (and I can tell). Up to you. but there are options.
  24. I have 5 that are all above my belly button. Middle one is killing me. It getting pulled by my belly weight. Any ideas?
  25. Thanks everyone, and I do plan on doing measurements each week. My pre op weight was from 2007, so it's been up and down, etc. I just chose to use 464 because it's where I started from, a long long time ago.
