    Painkillers

It seems very odd that you are in pain at 7 weeks out. You should be healed. Did you have any additional surgery ? hernia ? Have you done anything too strenuous? I think you need to speak to a doctor asap . Try your own, 111 or go to the A and E. Sorry to be negative but you shouldnt be in agony
  2. Hey there. I just had mine on Dec. 20th. I just had a post op appointment with my doctor. I have lost 10ths since my pre-op visit with him. I am excited. I have been doing protein shakes in morning and evening then protein water throughout the day along with regular water just sips. My goal with the water is to drink 32 ounces. It is hard. I eat sugar free jello as well and broth but this liquid diet is starting to weigh on me and I am starting to want other things. I have one more week of liquid then on 01/05 I can start purée and the vitamins.

I was swallowing tablets day 2. I had trouble because of swelling but by about day 4 all was fine. I just spread out what I was taking throughout the day as possible. At 7 weeks you should be able to swallow tablets without issue. You can’t take ibuprofen or any NSAIDS post sleeve - too harsh on your tiny tummy. But some surgeons do permit sleevers to have one on rare occasions. After 12 months, my surgeon allowed me to take a single ibuprofen once every month or two if needed. Had one in August for my covid vaccine headache but none since then. This should be a discussion with your surgeon. I’m more concerned that you are still in pain after 7 weeks. This is unusual. Most are basically pain free by the end of week one. You need to speak to your surgeon about the pain you’re experiencing as soon as possible.

    Any December 2021 bypass people?

So I had a RNY revision on 12/13. The first time I had surgery, I lost zero lbs in the first week and then it started falling off. This time I lost 10 lbs preop diet, 5 lbs in the first week. It has now been almost 2 weeks since I have lost anything. I am using a food tracking ap and I am between 800-900 calories a day. Trying to push it up to 1000 - 1200 if I can. I feel better, my mom and boyfriend say my face looks thinner, but no scale movement. Frustrating.
  5. I have finally been diagnosed with Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR)/Silent Reflux with my ENT Specialist about 3 weeks ago after suffering from a lump in my throat and tightness in throat which results in somewhat difficulty breathing. I have been having these symptoms for at least the past 4 months. I had visited at least 6-7 medical professionals (none of whom knew why I was suffering from these issues) before finally being diagnosed with Silent Reflux (difficult to diagnose). It is different to GERD (normal reflux) in that I do not have the classical reflux symptoms of heart burn, indigestion etc. I even had a gastroscopy (camera down my esophagus) to confirm it is not GERD. Has anyone ever developed Silent Reflux (LPR) or had any symptoms of a lump in your throat or somewhat difficulty breathing? It is best diagnosed by an ENT wherein they place a camera through your sinuses and it goes right to where your voice box is. I had the gastric bypass in 2019 (I initially had the gastric sleeve in 2013, but it was converted to Gastric Bypass in 2019). I am now on Somac (PPIs) twice daily for a minimum of 4 months in order to stop any stomach acid entering my throat and airways. It is a lengthy process to treat silent reflux. I would appreciate if anyone whom has had similar symptons and/or being diagnosed with silent reflux could let me know. Thanks everyone.

    Painkillers

I started swallowing pills as soon as I got home from the hospital. The only kind I couldn't handle were those gigantic calcium tablets - I had to wait two or three weeks before I could swallow those.

I'm in the UK so not sure what an rx is? I can get the liquid normally but the pharmacies locally are closed until next week, just my luck!

I grind up regular Tylenol and eat it with applesauce and am 5 weeks out.
  9. How soon after your sleeve did you start taking solid tablets again (eg. paracetamol, ibuprofen or acetaminophen?) - I am in agony and have run out of the liquid stuff but don't want to ruin my sleeve by taking something I shouldn't. I'm 7 weeks out.
  10. I seem to have the opposite problem but it's my own doing. I started regular exercise quite soon after my surgery... I'd say about 2 months post op. I'm now one year in and I go 6x a week. I drink at least 3 protein shakes a day in addition to a normal-ish diet and too many not_very_health_snacks if I'm being honest. I had my one year check up and the one good thing is ... even though the number on the scale did not move in the last 3 months, my muscle mass went up and overall body fat went down. I'm having a hard time with the mental aspect now and I'm trying my hardest to stop the old habits from creeping back. I'm around 106kgs and 182cm (i had to google convert, not going to lie)

    Eating out with strangers

I'll usually order an appetizer or else order a (safe) entree and eat half of it - and have them box up the rest to take home. Honestly, that's what a lot of my never-been-obese women friends do, too, so no one ever says anything. On the rare occasion that someone does, I just say I'm not very hungry. it's pretty obvious the first couple of months after surgery that something is "up", but at three years out (or even one year out), it's just not obvious. People will just assume you're a light eater - if they even notice at all.
  13. Im January 18th !!! UNLESS the covid cancels it. Our local hospital just cancelled all non emergency surgeries because of covid for the first two weeks of January. Hopefully for me, all systems GO!!! Fingers crossed. Sent from my SM-A716U using BariatricPal mobile app

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

I’ve been stalled for almost 3 weeks now. Lost 20 lbs in the first two weeks after surgery then hit a wall. I eat about 500-700 calories a day, weighing and tracking everything. Not losing inches either and I’m pooping like a champ. 😂 It’s demoralizing but I’m going to mentally amortize the initial 20 over the month and assume that I will keep losing weight eventually.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Yep. Same thing here with a stall. I am not counting my calories, but I have started to eat more than before. I was only able to eat 1/4 cup at a time and seem to be able to eat more now.

    Average calories

If you have Amazon Kindle Unlimited there are a bunch of bariatric cookbooks you can read for free! My program says by week 3 I am to shoot for 1200 calories a day, 60 grams protein
  18. Can’t do anything with excess loose skin except to surgically remove it. Sorry. The skin has been stretched out for too long like a well used hair band. You may get some bounce back depending upon your age, genetics, how long you were obese. Also in the months after you stabilise your remaining fat does tend to resettle a bit so some areas may refill a little. Weight or resistance training may help the underlying muscles support it better. My friend has become an avid cyclist post surgery & her thighs are rock hard with great muscle definition but she still has loose skin on her upper thighs - she showed me last week 😁. All those therapies like IPL, RF, thermage, ultrasound, cryotherapy, etc. seem to cost a lot & offer short term if any effects on small amounts of loose skin. There are quite a few threads about people’s plastic surgery here if you’re interested in reading about other’s experiences.

The thing is you’re actually eating what is a recommended portion size now. Those massive meals that are served at some eating places are two, three or more times what you should eat in a serving. A steak should only be a maximum of 4ozs not those half a cow size steaks that hang off your plate. Look to the appetisers, soups or salads & as @ChubRub said most likely won’t notice. Someone my want to share a meal or ask if venue will do a half serve. (I’ve had cafes scramble a single egg without an issue.) If someone does comment (pretty rude if they do) simply say I’ve had plenty thank you. Or I’m not a big eater (remember hearing people say that in the past & not understanding how could they eat so ‘little’ - we’re through the looking glass Alice). It used to be the polite thing to do to leave a little of your meal on your plate. It let the chef know the food was tasty & the serve was enough to eat.
  20. Absolutely possible (and to my mind preferable) to get all your protein from real food. I am exactly six weeks post sleeve and haven't needed to top up with any processed protein for about 3 weeks. You need to track it until you are totally confident, and you need to prioritise protein at every meal, as the others have said. My only supplements now are multivitamins and a separate B12 spray now. I won't have blood tests to check vitamin levels for another 6 weeks so may need some readjustment then, but so far so good. I am loving eating small home cooked proper food meals and losing weight (too slowly for my liking though - I know am SO impatient, LOL!!!) Sorry - having re-read your OP I see you were looking for wisdom from the people who are longer post op - feel free to ignore - I am also here mainly to learn. Good luck! 😀
  21. Hello Jan surgery buddies.. Started my 2 week liquid diet today! So far so good... Whats ur plan????

    10 days post up---Dizzy?

I had that problem as well, dizzy spells the first 2 weeks but out of nowhere it stopped. The only thing that helped me was eating sugar free popsicles.
  23. Jenn5120, consider that not taking in enough calories/protein AND going to the gym this soon post-op could contribute to a weight loss stall. Have you checked with your nutritionist about going to the gym?

    January Surgery buddies

I can be added to the ever growing list of January surgeries that have been cancelled. I was originally scheduled for Jan 18th. At least I DO have a new date of March 3rd. It is a 6 week delay which sucks but I was happy to have a new date. I know some on here have had their surgeries cancelled with no new date. Also, I did not yet have to start my pre op diet. I will use the additional 6 weeks to get into an exercise routine and eat healthy.
  25. My health is in the toilet, and I desperately need help and advice. RNY summer 2019, goal met in 2020, happy, maintained/healthy/active for a long while. I'm 51F btw. But since roughly March of this year I've unintentionally lost at least 50lbs while eating exact same nutrients/calories/macros/etc as my maintenance diet. I even started adding calories to try to stop it, bc my face looked awful/old. My BMI is now underweight and I look awful and ill. Also in March, the pain started. I had NO pain or issues from surgery 2019 all the way until March this year. It started as occasional lower right side abdominal pain, like a burning, hot coal sensation. Maybe 1 x a week. As the months have gone by, it increased and increased until now it's a daily agony. I wake up okay, but as the day goes on it gets worse and worse, until I go to bed with an Ambien at 7pm to escape it. (Mornings okay, it worsens as the day goes on) For many months it was bad but not so bad as to affect my calories/nutrition/appetite/etc. It's only in the past month it's gotten unbearable. (I still eat and get all my required protein/calories, I just do it earlier in the day). Trying different elimination plans didn't help btw. Then, 2 mos ago my hemoglobin went down to 8.5 despite my taking daily iron and I required 2 iron infusions to bring it up. I never had anemia since surgery until then, out of nowhere, with the same diet plan, all my vitamins, iron, etc. So here's the deal: FULL GI workup, normal, normal, NORMAL (CT, colonoscopy, upper endoscopy, CT enterography). Finally the GI doctor was like "I have no answers for your problems. Some things are just par for the course with a post bariatric patient." Verbatim (message in patient portal). No more follow-up or more testing offered. I felt slapped, I was LIVID at that message, I feel totally dismissed. This kind of suffering and drastic symptoms should NOT be "par for the course" for a 2 1/2 year post-RNY patient right? I know 2 others personally that had RNY years ago and they've never experienced anything like this. I just can't imagine this being normal! Has anyone here gone through anything like this and gotten answers and help? Or does anyone just have any ideas at all? (FYI I did see my bariatric surgeon first, a couple of months ago, he said my issues were NOT normal - this is before the GI doc. My surgeon ordered a CT but insurance denied it, which is why I went to that GI doc instead). So now I'm sitting here, suffering, deteriorating, with no answers or help in sight. :( Please please if anyone has any ideas, I'd be so grateful for some guidance here!
