I am 2 months post-op and I do sometimes feel hungry. But more often I feel thirsty. Getting enough Water is a challenge sometimes. I carry water with me all the time. I sometimes have to talk myself into eating Breakfast in the morning, which used to be my favorite meal. I still love breakfast foods but can't eat very much and often don't have an appetite in the morning. Hungriest time for me is mid-day and/or afternoon and sometimes I want a little snack before bed. I try not to give in to that urge but I am still me, still love food. However I don't crave sugary things as much but I found I can eat frozen yogurt and frapuccinos easily. So I have to be careful with that. I do count my calories with an app on my phone. pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4

Is that my full signal or that i'm eating too fast signal? Please help, cause i'm sure NOT getting all my protein at all cause of this feeling. . . :thumbup1:

Becky, try something besides the pureed chicken. Try some yogurt, or some mushie veggies. Sometimes chicken is an issue. I am not familiar with your prior issues with swelling, but it could have delayed your healing some, and anytime we have swelling, liquids are the answer. I think you are handling it right, and giving it some time. But when you are ready to try again---go for something besides hard protein, even in a pureed state. Depression is not uncommon--we are truly mourning food, and the way we used to eat. It will pass, but don't be surprised if a period of anger at the situation follows--not trying to scare, you it is just a normal part of grief, and we are greiving our loss of lifestyle and food sometimes. You are going to make it through this, and be eating soon. Til then we are here to provide support!!! Kat

Thought I would give a little update and my thoughts (with pics)
projectionguy posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
So I haven't checked in for a while, so I thought I would give an update. I had surgery with jaime Ponce de leon on Nov, 20th, 2014 in Tijuana (booked through bariatricpal). I am now aprox 10 weeks past surgery. I have lost almost 50lbs and still losing. What an awesome thing to do through a season we most always hide from the scale. I wanted to share some experiences with me over that time. Like many of you I gained weight over the years, topping out at almost 290lbs (I am a 6'1" male). When I looked in the mirror, I always saw the same me no matter what weight I was. It was the pictures of me I would see that made me say "Am I really that big?". I think we all go through this denial (even though it was almost every picture I saw that made me think it). Over the last two months I have had the weight falling off, but similar experience in front of the mirror. I still see the same me (one that was 50lbs heavier a little while ago) and do not see the weight loss. I know I am losing (I buy pants that last 2-4 weeks before I need something smaller) but I do not see that change yet. I am curious if others go through this? I guess it only makes sense that I never saw me gain weight in the mirror (so how could I lose it). Still a weird experience. I had a business trip this week for the first time. I usually dreaded coming home and finding out how much I have gained eating out every day (and some drinks at night). I am happy to report that I actually lost 1.5lbs during my trip! Drinking has been tougher (but ultimately better for me). I was one that tended to drink to get drunk (I know, that sounds bad). I have a hard time getting to that buzzed stage because of the slower rate I can intake. I have not had a soda or beer since pre-op (and maybe never will). If I am headed out to a bar for a night out, I usually keep a lemonade mio in my pocket to mix with a vodka and Water. Once in a while I have a bloody mary, but I am a little more sensitive to acid drinks. I just overall drink much less (which is better for me and my goals anyway). I can still eat very little. My hardest part has been eating slowly (or you pay). I start each day with a greek yogurt and 30mg Protein supplement. lunch is usually either another yogurt, a Soup, or salad. I tend to snack more (beef jerkey for some reason is really easy on my stomach and is my snack of choice). I also grab those yummy wasabi almonds! My goal having this surgery was to be able to enjoy food, but not have it control me. I have dieted many times in the past with me always over indulging when the diet was over. I think part of that is my compulsive and ADHD traits. I did not want to feel like I am in a diet, where I will only return to my bad habits at some point. To help with that I eat what I want to eat. If I have a craving, I eat it (within reason). The good part is the qty you eat is so much smaller, that you suffice the want, without killing your progress. I do not feel like I am on a diet, and that is the best part. So here are some pics of me before surgery and today (10 weeks later). Still more to go, but happy with where I am today. -
There is an extra spoonful or two of yogurt or tiny way's to still even stay with for a pick me up if your feeling weakened or stressed physically, add what's there your comfortable with too or more than spoonful at the moments necessity is there for it maybe, go with the flow, that is if I make sense for this topic and to you.

I have see. recipes I. Which the cottage cheese was blended till smooth then added. If it's the texture, that would work. If it's the tang of yogurt, try it where you would use sour cream. Lynda

Lexi_c replied to RedHookRaven's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Also I tolerate premier shakes, sugar free pudding and zero sugar okios yogurt. I really want to try scrambled egg whites. -
I don't measure it, but it's just a tiny amount. Maybe a quarter teaspoon in 4 oz of yogurt. One or two packets of splenda and however much cinnamon you want.

Im new and have so many questions.....
bikrchk replied to MindyLynn5's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First of all, in my experience recommendations\treatment plans can vary dramatically from physician to physician. I can only speak to what I was told to do by my team. Women need at least 73g of Protein daily. I've been tracking my intake in MFP form the beginning and plan to do so always. Purees are not that bad when properly prepared. Check out theworldaccordingtoeggface.com for recipe ideas for all stages of WLS. I ate lots of home made Soup and chili, whizzed in a nutra bullet to smooth out the chunks, eggs, cottage cheese and Greek yogurt in the puree stage. -
I'll be interested in what your doctor has to day. When I was 2 days out, I went in for IV therapy and after I got home, it was magical because from that point on, no more tiny sips! I was able to drink a normal drink of water and shakes. I wasn't parched or anything like that. Six days post op, I called my doctor about another issue and during our conversation, I mentioned how I was so tired of shakes and broth and it seemed I was hungry. She told me to start eating scrambled eggs and if I was okay with that, I could then move on to other soft/pureed foods. I think the yogurt and other foods like soups and even the pureed foods just are easier to eat without giving us a full feeling. Once you move to textured foods, you'll be able to feel full.

Planning is key! And I am horrible at it. I know what to do but it is hard to do. However, it is the biggest part that will help you succeed so I applaud you asking this question now. A couple of things. YOu know your food log that you are supposed to keep? If you fill it out on Sunday for the entire week, you will know what you are going to eat for the week and can get everything prepped early. Fill out what you will eat/drink for every meal and snack for the entire week. You can even cook it all on one day and just reheat it throughout the week. I think I am more successful when I fill all this out on paper but I also tend to not do it on paper so that isn't good. So I used an Excel spreadsheet . Just keep going down the spreadsheet for the next days. Oh, it wouldn't let me post it!! ******Note that I am a year and a half out so my food list will be different from yours!!!!!***** Basically, it should be kind of like this (though things probably won't line up here. Aug 3 Breakfast 2 eggs scrambled 12 g coffee black 0 g Snack Greek nonfat yogurt 12 g Lunch 2 oz chicken 14 g raw veggies 0 g balsamic vinegar 0 g Snack Greek nonfat yogurt 12 g Dinner chicken marsala 14 g Total 64 g But WHAT to make?! That is where I fall short. I have my dishes that I know how to make but I'm not a very good cook and don't have a wide variety of things to make. I'm still a work in progress! I would love to also hear what other people do.

band to bypass in 10 days!
shedo82773 replied to taurus71's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Taurus, Did you have problems with your band? I had my RNY on July 2, 2013. I can say this it WORKS!! If you follow all of your Suregon's guidelines and do what he or she requires you WILL lose your weight!! Here are my Stats: HW 249 SW 232 CW 125#'s!! I actually lost below my goal weight by 8#'s. I weighed in at 117#'s my Suregon and my PCP were getting worried but I gained the 8#'s and it is amazing how much better I have felt!! Part of my problem was I had Strictures ( kind of like scar tissue) I ended up needing 5 Endoscopes with 4 Dialations. With the last one being on Jan 2015. This surgery is so AMAZING!! I was on Protein drinks for 2 weeks preop and 4 weeks post op. I started out eating super soft foods : yogurt, cottage cheese, SF Jello and Protien drinks to supplement. I still use Protein Drinks to get in all of my protein. This your main focus to get in 60 to 80 grams of protien a day. You Dr might have a different # on your protein. I have a problem with some foods like eggs steak pork but I can eat Chili Beans ( actually any kind of beans) cheese, yogurt etc. Be sure to walk as much as you can after surgery and sip sip and sip some more. Your new pouch won't be able to take to much in at a time so you have to work it for sure. It doesn't take long to get dehydrated due to our small tummy!! Our WLS is a tool as I'm sure you are aware of. I still don't have true hunger. Now mind hunger I have to fight all the time. The WLS fixes your body but not your mind. Good Luck and I look forward to following your new journey!! -
Band Filled Or Not Filled At Time Of Surgery
newme0617 replied to newme0617's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As I have stated, I have no fill in my band. Today, I ate some grits(instant) and had major back, head, chest and abd pain. I waited about 2 hours and it got better. I decided to have some yogurt, one spoonful and I again had the symptoms. I also took a sip of Water to get down a pain pill, same pain...is this normal on a no fill lap band one week out? Yesterday I had no issues with eating at all..and I had grits for Breakfast also Thanks -
greek yogurt with a dab of peanut butter stirred in is deliish! Also the tuna is amazing! Its still a favorite of mine!

How to get enough protein 3wk out without protein powder
Marie Car replied to Beachsprite's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
im 2 weeks out and have a complete disgust for Protein drinks if i have to drink another, i will throw it at someone. Tried all of them but now i manage one slim fast scoop with 1.5 cups milk and two tbsp of greek yogurt. This brings the protein to somewhere around 30 grams. Since i could not get my Protein Drink in and i hate cottage cheese, i resorted to low fat ricotta cheese, 2tbsp with salt and a tiny drop of tomato sauce on. i tolerate it well and i have managed to up my protein, not to mention it feels like i ate something worth while! Down 23 and looking forward to eating real protein. -

Hello Everyone:) I'm new here! and I am in need of a support system. I had gastric sleeve surgery on 1/29/2018, which makes me 7 weeks post op! it was a lot easier than I thought it would be. My surgery went very well, I was back to work in 2 weeks. I'm a Finance Manager so I mostly sit at my desk all day. Now, let me take you through the good and the bad that I went through. Constipation after the surgery was horrible until I was introduced to Miralax! It's awesome...tasteless, odorless and you can add it to any beverage. I added it to unsweetened ice tea and water and it did the trick. My incisions healed fast except for the one in my belly button. It was a uncomfortable but tolerable for awhile until the pain stopped altogether. For the first 4 to 6 weeks, I tried to follow the diet but some days it was just too much! I had a hard time getting my protein shakes in after the surgery. Everything tastes different, it's kind of weird. I don't like eggs anymore and the smell of meat cooking makes me so nauseous! Before surgery I was a steak lover! now just the thought of steak makes my stomach hurt! So what am I eating when I do eat?? LOL:) My day pretty much goes like this, When I wake up the first thing I do is take all of my vitamins, Breakfast is 1 halo (clementines) and a yogurt, Lunch would be apple slices and cheese or chicken soup with 5 oyster crackers, Dinner.....honestly it varies because sometimes I'm not craving anything but if I am I'll eat a piece of fruit, or a grilled/baked chicken breast (skinless/boneless) and a cup of veggies. I never finish it all...after 5 bites I'm done! At this point, shrimps and fish are my favorite. In the beginning I was really depressed because of head hunger!!! It drove me nuts! I would crave something but as soon as I take a few bites I'm done! Then I would depressed because my mind wants to eat all of it but my tummy can't accept it! Once I thought about it, it was easier to move on. Why in the hell would I go back to same old habits that blew me up to 345lbs??? I didn't get surgery for nothing! so now, I absolutely love my sleeve because no matter how bad I crave something after a few bites, I'm done! As for exercise, I work out 3-5 times a week, most of my weight is on my lower body so I stay on the treadmill, bike, leg press (125 pounds) and the elliptical machine and also 5lb free weights. My oldest son is built like a freakin power ranger (obviously, he has his Dad's genes thank God!! But he's an excellent trainer and doesn't allow me to slack off. I would recommend gastric sleeve surgery to anyone who is serious about changing their life for the better. The surgery is only a tool, you have to be motivated and focused for it to beneficial for you. Every week the number on the scale goes down and that's all the motivation I needed! Don't be scared! Just do it! If you keep procrastinating, you're just delaying living your life to the fullest and being happy! and remember NO PAIN, NO GAIN! You have to go through something in order to get something!

I had what could've been the easiest WLS recovery in the world. But no way in hell was I trying to eat 4 ounces of meat (salmon, fish, chicken, whatever) 2 weeks post-op . Go back to yogurt. What worked well for me was 2 ounces of refried Beans and melted cheese. Become more patient. This journey takes months and months to get back to what feels like "real food" and "normal" to you.

You are trying to eat solid foods but your stomach is still healing. I didn't try eating some solids until 4 wks post op. At 2 wks post op you should be drinking Protein shakes and eating yogurt (my nutritionist recommends Dannon Fit and Light - the regular yogurt is thinner than the greek version). Stick to that for the next week then you can get soups and puree them in a mini chopper. Make sure you count your protein - this should be your focus and not moving onto solid foods. I tried ground beef at 4 wks and vomited it right back up. I was able to handle ham at 4 wks - pureed of course. I'm 6 wks post op and haven't touched chicken yet although I'll be trying a bit of Turkey today. Good luck!!
-
It's awful early for you to be eating solids like chicken and salmon. I was on liquids for three weeks and then gradually transitioned to pureed foods (cottage cheese, refried Beans, Greek yogurt, pureed soups) and eventually soft foods. I only ate 2-3 tablespoons at a time for the first couple months. It was 6 weeks before I was eating solid fish and chicken and even longer than that before I even attempted to eat 4 ounces of anything. I think you are just trying to advance too quickly, but if the vomitting with solids continues, you should contact your surgeon. A stricture can cause your symptoms,

Can anyone give me some ideas on what to eat on soft mushy diet.
Gaylancsu replied to neesh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been enjoying low fat cottage cheese thrown in the processor with plain or vanilla Greek Yogurt and a splash of vanilla and a packet of Stivia... tastes like the filling in cheese blitzes (I tried a very eggy version of the crepe with no added fat Sunday and did fine eating it slow). tuna salad in the food processor homemade hummus, light on the tahini canned chicken with a little mild salsa in the food processor with some chicken brother, served over ff refried Beans cream of wheat Poached salmon with capers and lemon -
I keep mine under 25 a day as well and I don't feel it's restricted at all. I still eat tortillas (carb friendly 4 net carbs), nuts (almonds and pistachios), yogurt (dannon light and fit is only 8 carbs), cheese, strawberries (1/4 cup). I don't eat bread, pasta, or rice and I never will again. Don't miss them at all anymore. I eat so much food that I don't feel deprived. I eat turkey bacon, avocados, eggs, Greek grilled chicken and tzatziki sauce, tuna patty (instead of bread crumbs add in pork rinds and bake instead of fry), grilled mahi mahi and squash are some of my favorites. I drink water everyday and don't miss soda or anything. I mix it up every day to keep things exciting. I do meal prep because I want to stay on my diet and be prepared. I find that when I don't have a plan or schedule that's when fast food or unhealthy options start looking good and I'm not going down that path again.

I talked to my Dr. again yesterday and told him I had only lost 1 lb in the week and he got really mad! He insists I am doing something wrong and that I should be consistently loosing 5-7lbs each week for the first 3 months. I can not figure out what I am doing "wrong". I am drinking 100 oz of Water per day, eating 100 g of Protein and only eating plain greek yogurt, cottage cheese, tofu and egg. To me it just seems that everybodys body react differently and maybe mine is just slow to loose... i wish he would have this surgery and can see if he looses 1lb per day!
