Costco had the big jars for a little over $5. I use it in my shakes/smoothies and in yogurt. I've blended it with chocolate protein and coffee for a pb mocha.

I mix with plain Fage yogurt and dip apples or cucumber slices in it, or just eat eat. I've also mixed it with oatmeal and that was good for a treat.

Hey everyone I was banded in 2013 but apparently the doctors I had been seeing were barely filling me. I hardly lost any weight and after 2 years I only had 4cc in my band. I went to a new doc and he gave me a big fill at once and for me up to a little over 5cc( I have a 10cc band) and I've had it since August. Since that time in finding I can't eat or drink ANYTHiNG until 11 am and even after that I gurgle a lot and can barely get 22oz of water in me a day. In pretty much only able to eat one meal bc every time I eat I get in horrible pain in my back even after tiny bites. Today I ate a tiny bite of chicken dipped in yogurt sauce and was on agony and threw it up. All day now I have this weir feeling in my throat after I drink. At first I thought it was just me eating too fast or too big of bites bc I feel like I don't have a lot of cc in my band but now I'm thinking I'm too tight what do you think?

Workout supplements?
BLERDgirl replied to hellohealthy's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I fuel my workouts with Protein and carbs. I make a big Protein shake with FAGE 0% greek yogurt, a big scoop of Protein powder and whatever mix ins I have on hand. Sometimes nut butter, sometime coffee ice cubes, sometimes a handful of spinach, half an orange, etc... My shakes come out to between 31 - 38 gms of protein. I typically drink half pre-work out and the rest after. Most work out supplements are designed for body builder and weight lifters and may have more carbs/fat/sugar than a bariatric patient needs to fuel a workout. I just try to have my shake at least 30 minutes before my workout out and the rest during recovery. -
Praying. How about some warm broth? @@2babutterfly - we found a house! We closed in July. Doing some remodeling & updating, but it's a great home for us. How did you do today? I had to change up breakfast and lunch, but no snacking or baking. I had yogurt for breakfast, made a tortilla with cheese for lunch, and had the planned dinner. We took a long, hot walk tonight and I got all of my Water. One day at a time.

Smooth greek yogurt?
Bufflehead replied to chrys129's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are a lot of coffee flavored Greek yogurts out there with no chunks of anything. Chobani has one, Yoplait Cafe Mocha, Dannon Cafe Latte. Yoplait also makes a caramel Greek yogurt that is really good. -

I also have these GoStak Twist & Lock Storage jars I sometimes carry with me. It can be used as a stack or broken down into the individual pieces. I used this when I had to attend a breakfast meeting that only promised continental breakfast. I carried my Vitamins and some unflavored Protein powder. I mixed half the protein powder in my coffee and half in some yogurt. -
My Doctor faked my surgery!
ThisWasForMe replied to tblovingme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had a really easy time too. I had no pain meds and my stomach just felt normal. My stomach muscles were sore for about 4 days afterward, but that's it. I have been able to drink 48 ounces of water per day, 3 protein shakes a day and my soups and yogurts. They just advanced me to stage 3. Doing well! -
If it happens again I'll try some fiber! Actually having the opposite problem today. Called the clinic nurse and she thinks I had dumping syndrome this morning. One week post-op we are allowed puréed and thicker things like yogurt. Had one-fourth cup nonfat Greek yogurt with Splenda. Ate it over the course of a half hour. She said I still could have overfilled my pouch or the Splenda gave me dumping. It's amazing how delicate our systems become! Back to just liquids for a couple days.

Mines full liquid, so protein shakes, Greek yogurt, strained soup, cottage cheese, SF jello and ice pops.

Does anyone have recommendations for greek yogurt without chunks of fruit in it (but not plain or vanilla)? I can't seem to find any that are totally smooth. Thanks!

Regular Meds post surgery>
Djmohr replied to ShotzySchultz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on Clear liquids for the first week so you are right no yogurt or applesauce. Right after surgery they removed me from metformin thank goodness but they had me continue Nexium, Levoxl and Propanalol. The Levoxl and Propanalol were small enough to swallow with Water. The Nexium had to be opened and added to liquid to drink. It was gross! The opening in your new tummy is the size of an eraser head so any pill smaller than that can be swallowed with water. After week 1 they stopped Nexium, High Cholesterol pills. After a month we stopped the high cholesterol and high blood pressure meds which left me with 1 tiny pill and my Vitamins which were all chewable at that point. They will work with you in the hospital to determine how you should take them, also they will provide liquid pain meds. -
How much can you eat 1/6/12 months post-surgery?
naturegirl replied to Barry W's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 2 months out and can usually only tolerate a few bites of beef/chicken at mealtime. I can usually eat almost an entire container of yogurt but it's spread out over an hour; which is fine by me. Carbs are limited as I don't tolerate them too well. Fruits very based on density. Every body is different. My husband is 3 months along and has the sleeve of steel; while I can;t tolerate as much as he can and never have. -
How much can you eat 1/6/12 months post-surgery?
mismatched replied to Barry W's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm one month out and my daily eating looks like this: 2-3 light muscle milks @ 20g Protein each 1 Greek yogurt (breakfast) 1 small banana or some turkey and cheese (lunch) 2-4 ounces of family dinner, eating protein first My plan doesn't involve limiting carbs but as I start tolerating more foods, I'll cut out the banana and scale back on the yogurt. -
I was pretty nauseated for about 5 days post-op. I was feeling pretty defeated too. It will improve, just do what you can for now. If you can't do protein shakes today, then let that wait for a day and try again. Are you able to eat yogurt on your plan? S.F. pudding? Maybe you will be able to tolerate them, or broth? It does get better, I promise. Keep yourself as hydrated as you can.

Post op menu suggestions

My Protein goal is 100 grams a day, so now, even at almost 6 months post-op, I still supplement with a protein shake on occasion, Do what you need to do to get in your protein and Fluid. When I was on soft foods, I ate a lot of Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna, and refried Beans. I still do because they are tasty, easy, and high in protein. -
Good Morning! It's Monday and feels like a clean slate. I'm gonna do an egg for Breakfast, yogurt I with granola for lunch, a little one pot spaghetti for dinner. I'll get in my Water, as usual. My struggle hasn't been how much I eat at one meal, but eating around the band by snacking in between and too much baking of sweets. I'll not bake or snack today. I'll take a walk through the neighborhood tonight. We've been walking and that's a challenge since it's SO hilly in our new neighborhood. It's a great workout by the time we do our two miles. I still want to get back to three miles a day, but it's gonna take time and endurance with the hills. What's your plan for today?

Does it get easier?
Carito74 replied to Shainadelphia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was suppose to wait until day 14 to begin soft foods but I just couldn't wait any longer. My head hunger was horrible so I had my first soft food on Friday 10 days post op and it felt like heaven. I never thought cottage cheese would taste so damn good!! I'm now eating creamy soups, baby food (fruits) and I ate my first yogurt this morning. So far my tummy is behaving. It will get better...absolutely!! -
Dumping, don't get it.
HeatherMiguel replied to meyouus's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm 11 days out and on puréed foods . I'm not sure what I experienced but it was horrible! At the night I had refried beans with cheese and felt it had to much cheese so stopped eating them. In the Morning I had 1/4th of light Greek yogurt (strawberry) and only water after. Around 1:30 I had horrible cramps had to go #2 it wasn't diarrhea at first but I got the shakes started sweating and breathing hard. Then finally came the diarrhea (tmi sorry) the other things lasted another 3 mns or do then I was fine . Anyone know what could of caused it? I'm thinking the yogurt although I've ate it before with no prob . -

Sample a variety. Think about if RTD or powdered better fits into your lifestyle and pocketbook. I was using almond milk, but stopped since it was too low of a Protein payoff for the carbs it contains. I already had a nutra bullet because I drink Protein shakes pre-gym. That may not be an expense you want to make if you won't use it after the early post-op stages. Popular brands are Premier Protein, unjury, GENEPRO, Isopure and Syntrax nectar. However there are a zillion other brands out there. Make sure you speak to your nutritionist about what they recommend. Mine wanted me to make sure that the one I chose either had whey or soy isolates since that is the most concentrated form of protein. She said to make sure to not get concentrates. She also gave me guidelines as to nutrition levels per serving. I think it was at least 15 gms Proteins, and no more than 6 gms of sugar. I would have to double check my binder to be sure. I found I needed some unflavored protein as the constant sweet of the drinks was too much for me after a week. Being able to have vegetable broth or non chunky Soup with a scoop of unflavored protein was a welcome break. I also liked the Isopure teas because I needed something non milk based. Save all receipts. Most stores will accept unused portions if you decide you do not like them. Since people are sharing, here's my iced coffee/mock frap/mock coolata recipe. I buy a med Dunkin Donuts coffee with cream. Cool then pour into ice cube trays. 1 scoop of CVS chocolate whey ¼ - ½ cup of FAGE 0% plain greek yogurt depending on taste 4 - 6 ice cubes (a traditional ice cube is ~ 1 ounce) just enough Water to blend. Throw the whole thing in the nutra bullet. Based on 6 cubes and ½ cup of yogurt your totals are: 242 calories 14 carbs 4 fat 39 protein 111 sodium 7 sugar If you want to cut calories and carbs try ¼ cup and 4 cubes. I do this for pre-gym, drink half and drink the rest post workout for recovery. At 39 gms of protein I have now gotten in most of my protein before noon.

I like using Trader Joe's ice coffee in GNC's no sugar chocolate Protein powder. A little vanilla extract, to really kick it up a notch, half of a Oikos triple zero coconut or vanilla yogurt. Better than a Starbucks frap. 260 calories, 33g of protein.
