    somebody is a lier!

I have done a year of the diet with my main doctor, i got 10 years of medical history, i did the phys evel, I wrote the letter stating why and what all i have done to lose weight. i got the letter from the doctor saying it is medical ness. Surgery office said they sent them over 3 weeks ago...insurance co still saying they dont have them.. so going today to get copies of EVERYTHING and sending them to the insurance co myself.....
  2. Hey I got lap-band almost 3 weeks ago (Wednesday) and I've already lost 32 lbs. I can definitely see a difference. That is with diet and exercise. Also, I spoke to a man on here who lost like 70+ lbs in just 2 months. It really just depends on your body type and how dedicated you want to be. If you put 100% in then you'll get 100% out. Good luck with your decision!
  3. Finally the day I have been waiting for since beginning this whole process in October is less than 24 hours away! I have a whole rush of emotions... nervous, anxious, excited, terrified.. I hope this is all normal. I will be in the hospital until Wednesday, possibly Thursday but I should be out by Wednesday. Good luck to everyone having surgery this week. We are all going to kick some butt!! I just keep reminding myself of how awesome it's going to be a year from now. Here we go!
  4. My doc said I should be driving by day 2-3 and good to go back to work by day 5-7.
  5. I am 2 weeks post op and have an area of about 5 inches in diameter around the port/incision that is numb. It has been this way for two days now. Feels like that area fell asleep. I haven't read anything about this anywhere. Has anyone else experienced this? Of course it is a holiday weekend and I started worrying about it after Dr offices closed. I am hoping others had this happen and it is not a problem.
  6. How long have you been going to your PCP? I completely bypassed the 6 month diet. I've had the same doctor for many years. I made an appt and told him I needed a letter from him stating I had dieted in the past. I had the letter the next day and surgery the next week.
  7. I have Aetna HMO insurance and they do cover lap band surgery. The selection criteria says "For adults age 18 years or older, presence of severe obesity that has persisted for at least the last 2 years (24 months), documented in contemporaneous clinical records, defined as any of the following: Body mass index (BMI) (see appendix) exceeding 40; or And here lies the problem for me. Though I have been overweight pretty much all my adult life...I very rarely go to doctors. I had been to the obgyn in January of 2009 weighing in at 325, and then not back in a doctors office until February 2011 weighing in at 375, and then again last week at 363. Do you think they will count the OBGYN's weight documentation even though it's older than 2 years? I could go back farther than that and get my old obgyn's docs from 2006 when I was pregnant with my son, and also overweight (though closer to 275 then). I've finally made the decision to get the lap band, I'm attending a seminar on June 7th and I'm really looking forward to this. I meet (and beat) he BMI requirement (at nearly 50bmi) but I'm worried because I've not really been an active doctor frequenter. I would really hate to have to wait 2 years since February to 2013 to get my weight records! Too bad pictures of my fat ass from those time periods couldn't suffice : / Anybody have any idea? This is also my first posting here, been lurking for a few months. I'm 6' tall, 363lbs, size 26/28, 29 years old momma of 1. Only other comobidities that I have is high blood pressure, high cholesterol...but the doc has recommended weight loss and that's it. No sleep apnea, that I know of! Abbie
  8. I am getting banded in 2 weeks, and the only thing I'm nervous about is that I might have to give up beer. I haven't really talked it over with the doctor yet. Are there any beer lovers out there who have some insight?

    Day2 PreOp Not going well

ive been on the pre op diet for a week now, and got 1 more week to go, my surgery is the 16th. try to stick with it, you can do it. buy some sugar free Jello, sugar free popsicles, and fudge pops. they help get you through the really tough spots. 10 cals for the jello, 20 for the fudge pops, and 15 for the popsicles! good luck!
  10. Congrats on the date! I've been wondering if there are others here in Dallas. I've attended Dr. Nick's seminar last month and have a few pre-cert items, which will be accomplished next week. I hope to have a surgery date soon. Very excited.
  11. Good luck! I was just at Mexicali last week to get my sleeve! Dr. Aceves and his staff are wonderful- you won't regret it My aunt and I had my "last meal" at the Colorado restaurant at that hotel. It was pretty good. There are some nice stores within walking distance too, if you're up to exploring.

    AETNA INSURANCE

I just got approved from Aetna this week... My surgeon originally submitted me on May 21st, on May 23rd Aetna kicked it back saying it was missing stuff... so we had to dig up some more paperwork, after we got it it was resubmitted on 6/2 .. again .. kicked back 2 days later because Aetna was waiting on a response from my dr. on if he operated out of one of Aetna's IOQ centers... After I found out he didn't, I resubmitted with another surgeon the same day, and was certified that evening... So for me it was about 2 weeks, I don't know if it would have been quicker if everything were submitted correctly the first time... or if I had started with a surgeon that was out of a Aetna IOQ center (Aetna wouldn't pay for me to have surgery if it wasn't at an IOQ, something I did not know before starting the procesS) besides that, it was a painless process, and they have been from prompt with just about everything I have wanted to speak to them about. Good Luck!
  14. s this surgery not for me? I'm HELLBENT on this surgery, but if I can't have a glass of wine or two once a week, it's a dealbreaker this was a concern for me- look at my blog... i am all about making wine- 22/7... IMO- sleeve is the better of the two for wanting a drink... The phycologist and my surgeon both agreed, it would not interfere, however, the amounts would change- and to be very careful of crossover addiction. I slowed down quite a bit pre-op, and yes- on the fourth did have several Jello shots... one didn't hurt, so I had a few more through out the day while swimming... wasn't wine... I'm not gonna tempt my stomach at this time... I want it healed... I do have plans on doing a red wine jello shot... so what you got to decide is it right for you... after surgery, who knows until you try it... I am having trouble with a lot of foods, however ice cream and Cookies are no problem... yes- I had a skinny cow, and it was good! and I had 1 PB cookie, and it went down easily... I try mashed potato, quesadilla , and it is wanting to come back up instantly...

    My Consultation

My insurance company said weight supervised 6 months by my doctor....OR 3 months by a nutritionist. You might want to check into that so you can cut some time off. I have been seeing my nutritionist about 3-4 months pre op and I still continue to see her. Matter of fact I have an apt tomorrow. Good Luck! Scott

    smoking question

I am a smoker(trying to be nonsmoker) who was sleeved. I quit for 6 wks before my surgery, then started about 2 weeks after. I started wearing the patch this weekend. I noticed this weekend, that my indigestion got 10 x worse whenever I smoked. So, as an experiment I stopped smoking on Saturday and started wearing the patch. I still have indigestion, but it's not nearly as bad. I know smoke effects your esphougas and stomach, I'm not sure but somehow only being one month out of surgery and still healing it's doing a number on me. I'd rather not smoke and feel good, than get my fix and feel like crap drinking Maalox all day long. It's not worth it.

    Confused newbie

My Brother has Myasthenia gravis too, it started in his late twenties. So far he has managed it quite well with steroids and it only affects his eyelids and vision when he becomes over-tired. I am sorry to hear you suffer from it too. I am having sleeve surgery in 2 days time. I made the decision to have the sleeve after my surgeon informed me what would happen if food ever got stuck in the lap band. He described how a vomitting fit would occur and continual retching, and you must go to your nearest Emergency room immediately. He described how it was something that definately happens, and usually on the weekends or when his patients are enjoying themselves (on holiday etc) because they are not keeping their mind on chewing the food as required after having these surgeries. (And for this reason he removes his patients band Fluid when they are holidaying in places without A1 hospitals). Whereas he told me that with the sleeve, for the same easy mistake of not chewing food properly, you will know about it with terrible discomfort. (Like you swallowed a cornchip without chewing it) but it is not an emergency room situation. You may need to lay down or take it easy until it passes... that for me, along with the less dietary restriction that the sleeve offers made me decide it was for me. I have two small children and I couldn't put them through a frightening experience like that, just for a simple mistake. I am sure next week I will have points when I think I should have stayed obese rather than either choice, but in the long run we have all got to do what we are comfortable in doing. Best wishes to you

    IM GAINING weight !!

Hi, I lost weight prior to surgery, not one pound since. I am on my Fitnesspal.com which was an easy way to track calories. I am supposed t be eating 1200 calories a day and seem to be consistently under that. I have no interest in eating any more than I am. And this includes a McDonalds low fat cone whenever I want one. I can't have ice cream in the house. Its a trigger food and I know it. I go to the gym 4x a week for an hour. I'm hoping the pa will have some suggestions to help. This is not easy. Its like a puzzle I can't quite figure out. Good luck, Keep the faith

PMS + Pre Op = STARVING

Honestly, I have the same problem. I'm on day 12 of my 2 week pre op diet and today I ATE pizza. I'm freaking out now, because I've done so well *14 lbs down* ...don't fall off the band wagon like I did, you will feel SO guilty! The other 13 days I would just drink an extra Protein shake, or have carrots or some fresh fruit Pre op diet: 1 shake for Breakfast 4 oz of chicken or turkey + 1 cup carrots + small dinner salad for lunch 1 shake for dinner AND A LOT OF Water
  22. I'm afraid to cheat. I have been told that if my liver has not shrunk, the surgeon will open you up only to close you back up and not do the surgery. I have too much invested for that to happen to me. I think you all need to really think about the seriousness of this. I'm going into day 3 and so far, so good. But I am allowed to have yogurt, jello, applesauce, fish, chicken, some vegetables and salad along with 2 protein shakes daily, oh an oatmeal. It's kind of a weird diet, but it's definitely doable.
  23. How long did you have to be on the diet and how much did you lose? I'm really worried here. I've stayed the exact same for 2 months and have only lost 3 lbs. I'm worried I won't be approved because I haven't lost more weight. I'm following dietician and working on a stationary as well as a bike. Should I be concerned because i haven't dropped more weight than this? Freaking out there.
  24. Just a quick question about the Pre-Op 3-6mth diet: I was just reading in another forum where lots of insurance companies require you to go through that. It's not a big deal, as I was hoping to get banded late this year/early next year anyway, but I just wanted to know if there was anyone out there that didn't have to do the diet? I spoke w/my insurance company and they told me because I had the best option, the only requirement was a diagnosis of morbid obesity ( ) and then they would cover everything 100%. I'm asking because I'm not at that point just yet. I've only just scheduled my seminar and chosen my surgeon. Any thoughts? Thanks!
  25. you may want to get with your NUT about what they want you to eat. What honk had for the 1st 2weeks and what I had for the 1st week. Every surgeon is different. I was able to eat sf jello sf pudding, sf applesauce, beans, cottage cheese, ff milk and the likes from day 2. I'm 2 weeks out now and I'm on real foods. it's may only be 4oz per meal, but many others are still on full liquids. So, find out what they want from you. Protein shakes are a must though. You know that you will get full easily. I found I like the premixed ones better than the powders...
