  1. I had mini bypass on November 25th. So I’m 5 weeks post op. SW 237, CW 217. I’m around 600-700 calories a day and only losing 2 pounds a week for the last 3 weeks. Is this normal?

    Do You loose weight slower

At least your surgeon told you I had to do my own research. Post surgery I came hime from the hospital heavy than I went in and in 2 weeks I had lost almost 25lbs then the 3rd, 4th, 5th no weight loss then the 6th week it started back REALLY slow I’m up to 35lb weight loss was expecting a lot more by now. I’ll keep an eye on it the next couple of weeks if nothing changes I’ll be speaking with my surgeon and my nutritionist immediately! Good luck your just getting started so don’t get discouraged

    Gas pain

The possible dehydration is a concern. Go to your nearest hospital or medical centre as you may need some IV fluids. As @ShoppGirl said getting IV fluids isn’t a big deal but being dehydrated is. It takes a good week for the gas they used to inflate your abdomen during surgery to escape. You’ll probably notice discomfort in your shoulder - a sign the gas is slowly dissipating. Walking, even around your home, is the best treatment besides GasX. Difficulty with swallowing is from post surgical swelling. It improves a lot after a few days. I found warm liquids more soothing too like @Lindsayleigh86. Make sure you’re sipping slowly as well to avoid taking in more gas and no carbonated liquids. If you’re lactose intolerant, watch the protein shakes when you start them as many are based on lactose. Are lots of lactose free ones available but you may have to look about to find the right ones for you. Plenty of lactose free yoghurts, milk, cheese etc available too for when you’re ready. It’s a pretty major surgery & it takes a while for you to fully heal & recover. Plus it’s a huge change to your life & everything is new & different. So it’s ok to have doubts. It does get better.

    Do You loose weight slower

I’ve heard the same thing. My surgeon said because our body has gone thru a weight loss surgery before, so it knows what to expect. I’m trying to remain positive and force myself to be more active in hopes it won’t be true. I’m almost two weeks post op and lost 16 lbs since surgery. I’m sure it’s mostly water weight since I’m still on liquids.
  5. I had my RNY on 12/15/21. Got out of hospital right before Christmas. Had complications this past week and just got home New Years Eve from another hospital stay. Feel full. Trying to get fluids down.
  6. Congratulations! Our plans sound a bit different so don't go outside your team's guidelines, but here is the info I was provided for the 2 weeks. 1 word of advice, start pushing hard to get the water in by little sips from a shot glass every day. It will take alot of effort. I downloaded a water timer and had it going off every few minutes. That will pay in dividends in 2 weeks when you can't chug water (if you are in Habit of chugging water. I'm really talking about me. Lol.) Good luck and you've got this!
  7. I never have that full feeling. I am 5 weeks out and food doesn't bother me. I just ate 1/2 cup chicken salad. No problems. This frightens me! I am trying to eat foods for protein not just smoothie with protein powder in it. Advise please. Sent from my SM-A716U using BariatricPal mobile app

    No Pre-OP Diet?

No pre-op other than clear fluids for two days before. They did suggest stopping caffeine prior to surgery. So I did that about a week before. I think starting weight can play in too it as the Clinic I went to does have patients do Optifast, but I did not have to. My starting BMI was just above 36.
  9. Would have been 5 weeks from the date I contacted the clinic. But due to Covid surge canceling all elective surgeries where I went, it was 9 weeks.

How long from consult to surgery?

3 weeks, but I didn't have to lose weight before surgery. Just the pre-op diet for 2 weeks. Sent from my moto g power using BariatricPal mobile app
  11. Everybody and I mean EVERYBODY hits the infamous Week 3 (sometimes Week 4) Stall and yes it can last several weeks but it's perfectly normal. While frustrating, it's to be expected. Just keep doing what you're supposed to be doing, getting in the protein and the water, and the weight loss will come. I promise.
  12. You are perfectly on track. Don't rush the process. The surgery is a tool but not an instant fix. And there will be a stall in Week 3 or 4, everybody gets it, so don't think you're getting too many calories or have done something wrong. Trust the process and take it slowly.
  13. A couple of weeks ago I got sick, probably a stomach virus, but I had been having gastrointestinal issues (diarrhea) on a different diet, that I'm going to post about later, so I decided to give Weight Watchers a try. I didn't realize that they have just revamped their program and released a new iteration of it in November 2021, so my timing was pretty good to start the new program. It's taken a couple of weeks for my body to adjust after reintroducing carbs again, but I'm starting to lose weight now. I did WW way back in 2006 or so and was successful, so I thought I'd try it again. PROS: well-balanced meals without restricting certain foods, easy-to-follow, easy tracking system for daily points, allows flexibility On this new version, Personal Points, you take an assessment online and it asks you if you're diabetic, what types of foods you typically like to eat, what your rate of activity, is and it calculates both your daily allotment of food "points" as well as generates your own personal list of "zero point" foods. So my list of zero points may not be the same as yours. On my list, I can count eggs, grilled chicken, corn, and of course non-starchy green vegetables as zero points. I like the bar code scanner that scans grocery store packages and converts it into points for you and also they've got just about every restaurant imaginable in their database with associated point values. Is anybody else here doing Weight Watchers? I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Only 9 pounds almost 4 weeks post op

Had a weight loss stall for 3 weeks at 3 weeks post op. Prior to stall in first 2 weeks I lost 25lbs and to date I’ve only lost 35lbs total. Getting worried. After the stall only lost a total of 4lbs and this week only 1lb , I would hate to have gone threw all this not to successfully loose weight! FRUSTRATED

After a weight loss stall how much weight should we be loosing a week
  16. I am experiencing the same thing. My nutritionist says I should be eating every three hours. Even if I drink plenty of fluids, two hours later my stomach is feeling empty. Not sure what to do.
  17. I am 5 weeks post op from being sleeved. I am having some mental issues about this but I am working thru them with the help of my PCP. What's really bothering me right now is my sense of smell and taste is so off and bad that any thing smells and tastes horrible I start gagging and can't get it down, except for a few cheeses and maybe a scrambled egg. Even those things are barely palatable. I went to a relatives house tonight for a party and couldn't stay in there because of the food smells. I went and sat in the car and cried. Please tell me this gets better with time. I have wanted this surgery for over a decade. I researched to where I thought i knew all the pros and cons. I guess I didn't research it enough. I wanted this to better my life for myself, my kids and my family. I pray this gets better. At this point I feel like I made a lifetime mistake. I just pray that this gets better with time
  18. I am almost 4 weeks postop , I was cleared to eat “soft” foods so my nutritionist told me to eat eggs and tuna until then. I’ve gotten an aversion to the smell of tuna because I work in the vet field and it makes me sick now. I have been eating puréed chicken salad, which she told me to wait until the 27th of Jan to start but it has been going down fine. What my concern is..I take a couple bites I’m FULL not even like 2 hours later I’m starving again and idk if this is normal or its my food addiction again?
  19. I went bowling with my husband today and we did warmup and three games and I wasn’t tired at all. We used to do league and that wasn’t too bad because there are so many people between so you get to rest but when just he and I would go in the past I would get wiped out and sometimes had to let him finish my last game for me. Today I finished all three and could have done more.
  20. Dec 3 2021 here...guess that makes me 28 days post op...hey now that's four weeks! I am experimenting with some general foods, although I think I am pretty much sticking to the 'soft' phase.
  21. My Gastric Sleeve is scheduled for Thursday, March 17th. 11 weeks from now. I'm very excited to have something to count down to.
  22. As we head into 2022, someone else started a thread on refocusing. To help with that I thought it would be great if we can share some recipes we all love that are healthy I'll start. 1) I do ground chicken taco's a lot! Easy make ahead that reheats well. 1 onion, diced 1 can green chilies 1 lb ground chicken 1 package taco seasoning 1/2 C chicken broth instead of water in the taco meat Flour tortilla - I get the fajita size. You could leave this out and put the mixture on a salad mix and it's delicious! Pico to top 2) Another one I do is a cold Thai Chicken salad like this one (https://pinchofyum.com/chopped-thai-chicken-salad#tasty-recipes-38805-jump-target). I buy pre-packaged slaw veggies (no dressing) to replace the cabbage/carrots, and I leave out the serrano's and blend the frozen mango into the dressing rather than having it mixed in. I also leave the sugar out of the dressing as I don't think it needs it. A little higher in fat with the sesame oil and peanut butter, but I eat about 2/3 of a serving and am stuffed and I keep it in the fridge in individual servings for up to a week.

    Food Before and After Photos

Batch two: First two pics is lomo saltado - Peruvian steak stir fry (fiancés plate) The other three are from a second cook out I had where I made carne asada tacos with a homemade tomatillo sauce, avocado sauce, and not in the pic but a red guajillo sauce. Also in the pic is cotija cheese and crema mexicana. I have more pics but I'll leave it at this lol I've also went to a few AMAZING restaurant while I've been away but as usual I'm still always asked if I even liked the food because I can barely fit anything in. And HAPPY BIRTHDAY @Starwarsandcupcakes!!!! ❤️

    Average calories

Congrats I love reading your posts, to add on I also had no goal given and stuck around 600/800 the first 5 weeks (I had a lot of nausea), after that, I have been around 1000, which I think is likely where I will hang out for the foreseeable future assuming my hunger stays about the same :). My RD was very keen for me to eat cheese or another source of fat such as olive oil or avocado as early as possible, so I say go for it to your comfort! I found it didn't cause any craving issues or head hunger either, only carbier things do that for me. I have seen other people given a limit of 35g for fat intake, which I gently try to remain below for calories at this stage, but generally good fats are exactly that nothing but good and very vital for lots of stuff including brain function. I can't rave about cheese enough tbh, even though its high fat it never makes me ill and its stomached really easily, it was the only food that didn't make me nauseous. I love the light baby bells, cheddar, light laughing cow triangles, cheese sticks and eggs baked with (full fat) cottage cheese. I mostly ate cheese from week 3 to week 5... sometimes 5 portions a day, it had no effect on my weight loss (8lbs). (I know it wasn't the best but anything except cheese and yogurt made me want to hurl!) Personally, (you seem fine but adding for any others reading) I would avoid nut butter for a bit longer or have a very small amount with something you know you tolerate well at first, they make me very ill still for some reason (I was fine before surgery). Good luck! whatever you do will be fine in the end!
