  1. He told me to follow the liquid diet which is yogurt, pudding, protein drinks, popsicles, broth and drinks (Gatorade, water, juice, etc..). Hmmm...
  2. Also remember each body is different. YOUR body may not be ready for yogurt yet. Esp. Greek which is much thicker.
  3. I bought Unjury unflavored protein because I could stomach another protein shake. Dreaded the thought of it. Well $50 for the stuff and it's the exact texture, color of my vanilla protein I had. I have tried adding it to the stuff they say ( yogurt, your fav beverage, soup blah blah.. It's nasty. Period. Don't waste your money. Can't mix It with anything cuz the scoop is such a huge amt that you have to mix in a freaking 1/4 or 1/2 cup of something, it just does not work!
  4. I don't know if this will be concrete enough for you, but here is the plan I had for my pre-op program (not the official pre-surgery diet but for before that, on my nutritional program). I still use a modified version of it when I need to drop into weight loss mode again. Unlimited: lean, unprocessed protein (fish, white meat chicken & turkey, lean cuts of beef, etc.); green veggies (asparagus, broccoli, brussels sprouts, leafy greens, cauliflower, artichokes, green beans), black coffee, tea, water; herbs and spices, healthy fats (olive oil, grass-fed butter etc. but in moderate quantities -- "unlimited" doesn't mean to go eat a stick of butter!).. One serving of each daily: whole grains, fresh fruit, nonfat dairy. 1 time per week (each): sweet potato, nuts (small serving only), beans/legumes; eggs Banned: everything else, including starchy veggies, sweets, artificial sweeteners, highly processed food such as jello or pudding or chips. Weigh/measure all portions and log everything in MyFitnessPal. Stay under 1500 calories per day. Carbs, protein, etc. will take care of themselves on this eating plan. Sample menu: Breakfast: steel-cut oatmeal w/ cinnamon Morning snack: 1 c. nonfat yogurt Lunch: Chicken breast & asparagus salad w/ olive oil & vinaigrette Afternoon snack: apple Dinner: Grilled salmon, baked avocado slices, pan-wilted garlic spinach After dinner snack: 1 oz. hickory almonds Good luck!

Thank you guys in advance!

    Greek Yogurt Recs?

If you have an Aldi's near you, their Greek yogurt rocks!! Not as tart as the others

    Greek Yogurt Recs?

I'm still pre sleeve, but I do a lot of Greek yogurt. I get plain 0% fat Fage, or costco has their own as well. I make my own fruit purées and mix them in - often it's sweet enough without any additional sweetening, or with just a tiny amount of raw honey or agave syrup if the fruit isn't really ripe enough. Alternatively, I get some of the no sugar added fruit preserves and stir in a spoonful is that. That said, I do enjoy several of the Chobani flavors if I'm in a hurry and need something grab and go! Unflavored Protein question

What do you put your Genepro in? I have some and tried it with watered down juice (I can't handle artificial sweeteners) and it made it change a weird color and get really THICK. And it was a large glass. Yuck. I use it in coffee every morning...I dissolve it in some half and half in the bottom of the cup, with a fork, then add the coffee. If you don't use cream, some lukewarm Water works too. I also put it in refried Beans, yogurt, soup...anything loose or moist works well. And I tried something new the other day that worked fine: I think you probably know about my incessant struggle with meat, so cheese is a huge source of protein for me. I like the La Tortilla Factory high pro/high fiber/low carb tortillas, so I took one of the small ones they made and made a quesadilla like I usually do, but I tossed the shredded cheese in some Protein Powder before I put it in the tortilla. I used the rest of the scoop in the sour cream + salsa mixture I make to dip it in. That little bit of extra effort got me 20+ grams protein in my quesadilla The secret to Genepro, in my experience, is to mix it into something cold or cool then add it to warm liquids. I add it directly to warm thicker foods like refried beans with no problems. I don't use it in cold liquids at all, since all I drink is water. I'd think you could mix it into lemonade, though, in a shaker bottle then let it sit for a few minutes for the foam to settle.

    Tuesday Was My Big Day....

I got to come home on Wed. afternoon. My belly is a mass of bruises.... I think that hurts more than anything else. I did manage to eat about 2 ounces of yogurt today and I'm working on finishing off my 2nd protein shake. I just made 2 big shakes and split them into small amounts and I've been working on those all day. I'm getting there tho.... It's weird but I thought it was going to be a lot harder than this... well not that I think it's easy I just thought I would be in a lot more pain and discomfort.
  12. I am 5 weeks out and discouraged that I can consume so much in one sitting. In an hour and a half car drive I drank a 9 ounces protein drink followed by a yoplait light yogurt. 30 minutes later I had what felt like constipation (sweating, nausea). I slept for 2 hours and woke up with a headache, dizziness and nausea. Maybe Im dyhydrated.
  13. I'm starting to think about what to buy for the post-op liquid diet. I'm trying to plan for at least the first week when I might not want to goto the store. Curious what others are buying ahead of time. My plans are: chicken broth Protein powder sf Jello sf popsicles crystal light yogurt preimer Protein shakes Anything else? Any blender recipes to try?
  14. My dr does full liquids from the moment you are home, so I have creamed soups to strain, sf pudding and pinkos triple zero yogurt stocked up for at least the first week. My surgery is tomorrow. Dec 5

    traveling after surgery

I am going to be 5 weeks out when I have my first flight - it's only going to be 6 hours, but still long enough. I plan to buy a protein drink at the airport (I know already where they sell the kind that works). If you can look at the airport restaurants and find where they might sell a tuna fish sandwich or tacos or refried beans or bean soup, those might be your best bets. Obviously, just eat the tuna or deli meat or taco meat, not the carbs they come stuffed in or any veggies. You can also look for hummus or string cheese or hard boiled eggs at the little stores (I almost always find these). You can probably also find yogurt, but it may not be low sugar. You might be able to get a doctor's note to allow you to bring some more liquidy food through security; talk to your surgeon. Also, you can bring powdered protein through, but for best bets, have it in small amounts. You can then buy milk or mix with water. As others have said, get up to walk every hour that you are awake. This would be the time to pay extra for an aisle seat. Is this a direct flight or do you have a connection? Be aware that your core muscles will likely be very weak so you may want to check as much of your luggage as possible or ask someone (not the flight attendant; another passenger) for help putting up your bags. I say don't ask a flight attendant as they generally are not permitted to assist, and it puts them in a bad spot, since if they get injured doing a favor, they don't get worker's comp depending on the situation.

Why is this ALL I'm thinking about now!?

No I absolutely cannot eat anything at this point. I found THAT out a few days ago when I got cocky and decided since I was doing so well, I would try and eat some soft pork chop. Small bites. Chewed really well. TOO EARLY. I had my first dumping event that lasted for three hours! It was horrible. I would go throw up, come back to my desk (I work from home) and sit for about 5 minutes, and then I would need to throw up again. THREE HOURS! I was taught a lesson by my body. And believe me, I heard it! So I am on the mushy/soft food phase, which is where I am supposed to be. Soft scrambled egg with a little cheese, refried Beans with cheese and guac, yogurt (I LOVE the Dannon Light and Fit Greek Whips! The lemon meringue tasts JUST like a real slice!), egg sald with light mayo, mustard, and a little dill relish, skim milk... I am fine to be here for awhile. What's really cool is that I do not miss the sodas, or my beloved sweet tea. I was a fiend with both of those and now I don't even think about them. So that's a plus. It does get better and having lost 22 pounds now, I am happy with my decision and grateful I get this chance to be healthy again.

    Looking for Buddy/Mentor...please

@@pvechiola I get super sick when I eat more than 6 grams of sugar with my meal. Its a form of dumping syndrome...shakes, hot flashes, super tired. Stay clear. As far as shakes are concerned, you should use Premier Protein. You can find them at costco specifically. They are low in calories and sugar (super important) and have 30 grams of protein. Muscle milk is ok, but get the light. I eat a yogurt every single morning for Breakfast. The Oikos black is good because it is low in sugar and high in protein. Greek yogurt is better than regular. I really like Dannon Light & fit greek yogurt. It has 80 calories and 12 grams of protein. I add mandarin oranges to it for my fruit. I also get the no sugar added and packed in Water. I hope this helps!!
  19. Liquids: Protein2O, Poweraide zero, Fatorade zero, Crystal light, Fairlife milk, sf jello, Tropical popsicles, cream of mushroom soup strained with added milk. Pureed: baby food, Greek yogurt Oikos triple zero, Fage 0%, refried beans, Progresso lentil and split soups, PB Fit powder and dried milk powder to make smoothies with protein powder. Soft: mashed cauliflower, avocado, banana. Canned tuna, salmon, chicken to mix with light mayo, egg salad, sweet potatoes. Cooked a lot of chicken and turkey breast cutlets in crockpot and froze it to eat later.
  20. If you need a sweet fix that will slide down, I found that if I do 1/2 c of greek yogurt and blend it with the seadless spreadable fruit (its sugar free jelly) and it tastes super yummy and goes down well, and then you can hit your Protein needs more easily. The soft food stage was the hardest for me by far! Best of luck.

    Fruits?

For fruit, it was recommened that I eat greek yogurts with fruit, or canned fruit in natrual juices, and applesauce until I get to week 6. I have been eating the yogurt thus far cause I at least get the 10g of Protein with that as well.

    Post Op Liquid Diet

A week of clear liquids post op is a new one for me but as everyone always says, every doc is different and always follow what your doc says! I am having my surgery tomorrow (YEAH!) and after discharge I will be on full liquids so I have stocked up on Protein powder, skim milk, Isopure (ready to drink clear protein drinks), several kinds of broth, cream of Soups (I will have to thin them out with milk and strain out any bits), Greek yogurt (again I will have to thin out), sugar free Jello, etc. In addition to food items I have another shopping list for all of the non food stuff like chewable Vitamins, milk of magnesia, miralax, gas x, etc. At least gathering all of this stuff keeps me occupied so I don't start dwelling on the big event tomorrow!

24 Year Old Starting Her Journey

Great post! My advise is to start working on being healthier now. After surgery it's highly recommended that we stay away from carbonated drinks like soda or beer, fizzy Water, etc. So if you're a soda drinker, start to ween yourself off. I made the mistake of going out and buying a bunch of 100 calorie Snacks and whatnot once I started seeing my nutritionist in March of 2015 and didn't lose any weight that month. So then I stopped drinking soda and lost like 5 pounds in 2 weeks - crazy! I started going on walks. I was 355 pounds and only 5'5" tall and could barely walk a block at first, but by this time last year I was walking 2 miles at a time a few times a week and by July I was walking 3 miles at a time. I was reading health magazines and came across a great article about how to cut back on calories and lose weight. I did this by eating a yogurt cup and a small side salad about 15-30 mins before eating lunch and/or dinner. It curbs your hunger so you eat less during the meal. So I ended up eating a lot less carbs, because I started following the rule of eating my Protein first, then a veggie, and last a carb. It gave me a ton of energy! I actually lost 41 pounds by making those healthier choices before the surgery. That was extremely important to me, because our body loses weight MUCH faster in the first 12 months and after that it slows down quite a bit. For me it's slowed down from losing 10+ lbs a month to losing maybe 4 if I'm lucky. But if we follow the guidelines and use our sleeve (such a amazing tool), then we'll continue to lose the weight! I hope this was helpful! Sent from my A846L using the BariatricPal App

    Oz of food

At 3 months, Probably 3-5 fluid ounces at a time (approx 1/2 cup). Lower end it it was meat, higher end if it was yogurt or something “looser”. Now this amount was about the volume to eat that would satisfy as well as not feel any discomfort.
