    Strange?

It's been a month since my sleeve. I did the liquid diet for a week, then full liquids for another. Ever since that, I'm been good with most solid food. I do chew it into a complete pulp, but no problems at all. I have not had any kind of pasta, pizza, soft breads or tomato products. Worried they will make me sick. Is it normal to have no foods that give me no problems? I have been losing, about 40 lbs since the week pre op diet.
  2. Dear February Sleevers: I am 2 weeks out from surgery and everything tastes so sweet. I am still on liquids for 4 more days. I eat Chobani yogart to help with Protein amount then Injury chocolate for another 30 grams of protein. Suppose to get in 70 grams but still only able to get in 60 grams a day. Have tried cream Soups to get away from the sweet but they don't taste good. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I think they may have also done something with my taster while in surgery.....lololololol
  3. Stalls are so maddening. My most disheartening stall happened just 6 weeks out from surgery, and lasted 3 weeks. There are all kinds of "tricks" you can try to break the stall. Anything to change up what you are doing might be enough (increase calories, decrease calories, increase exercise, decrease exercise). But I honestly think trying to break a stall is almost more frustrating than the stall itself. In my experience, it's best to just keep your nose to the grindstone. It sounds like you have a well balanced diet, you exercise, and you eat about 800 calories a day - correct? Keep it up. The stall will break. Eventually. Just keep up the healthy lifestyle and trust the process. I know it is so maddening. I hope your scale budges soon. In the meantime, congrats on the inches lost! That's great!

    Carb Intake

I would take a guess that possibly you are not eating enough. My nut said that I should be eating 1200 calories per day as long as I am working our 5-7 times per week. She said eating less than that can cause more stalls with our body thinking it is not going to get enough. Are you getting the minimum protein? I have found when I up my calories, that I actually lose more weight and have more success.

    Eating

After 4-5 weeks I was able to eat steak. Hot dogs, BBQ, and cheeseburgers were pretty easy after 4 weeks. Like most of us I'm only able to eat a few bites and I can tell you that if a hot dog is what I want, my 3-4 bites for that meal will certainly be the hot dog.

    Any 8/14 patients?

I had my surgery on 8/13 and I'm not allowed to touch anything but clear liquids for the first week. It's so hard to get all that liquid down I can't imagine adding protein too. Good luck and I hope you find something good!

    post op day4

Don't worry about that gas!! All that rumbeling will break loose and it will turn into the screamin' me-me's!! I had HORRIBLE gas from surgery. For 3 days I was in so much pain I could not sit up straight or take a deep breath! Then it all went south and rumble rumble in lower stomach. I passes some LOUD gas!! Then, I trusted one fart too many and paid for it BIG TIME!! So, if you get to tootin' do it over the toilet! I know TMI, but trust me, you don't want to be sorry later! LOL Kelly

    8 days post op

@@sammywammy Thank you! And yes, round the clock ice packs laying on my arms. The worst is at night. My poor hubby literally went to 5 different Walgreens here in WI and bought them out of the one time use packs for me on 3 different occasions. Those worked very well but did not last long. Then he bought these two cryo ice packs. You freeze them and they stay cold for 8 hours so they say. Honestly it's really about 4 hours but they were fantastic. He also bought me every itch cream they had! LOL. None of it worked. The only other thing that definately helped what Young living peppermint essential oil. I rubbed on my arms but of course not on the incisions. That takes the itch away for a little while. It has only been the last two days that I have been able to go without ice and I think it is because I switched to a compression garment that is very very tight on my arms. When you compress them they feel better. I really hope you stop itching soon.

10 days post op no loss?

I agree with jenn1, and will add that you no doubt lost pounds on your pre-op liquid diet. Your body just needs to catch up. You will start losing soon. I lost 25 pounds on my 2 week pre-op diet, and lost nothing my first week. I was told not to get on the scale for the 1st week or so anyway, because your body has to release the IV fluid and water weight resulting from it.
  10. Just an update... Dr Aceves, dr campos, staff, and Almater has been such a good experience. Everything is very well organized, staff is very attentive, and its very clean and modern. I am comforted staying in the hospital for 3 days. I had my surgery on Wednesday. I did get sick from the morphine, but that is expected for me. When I was nauseous or in pain my needs were met immediately. I was able to rest and if you need a sleeping pill just ask. I had my blue dye test yesterday. I had to nap in between drinking. I was mostly afraid of hurting my stomach. Today I had my barium swallow test. It was very cool to see. I took a big gulp and you could see it exiting my stomach. No problems. Hotel lucena was very nice. I was exhausted the first day. i couldnt sleep very well the night before leaving. Try to sleep the night before if you can. It truly will be fine . The van you take to mexicalli is a new Honda minivan. I did have to wait a little at the airport but I just called the number and let them know what I was wearing ect. I did overpack. I have been wearing pjs because I feel more comfortable. As far as pain it does hurt at time. The gas in your stomach and abs is uncomfortable but you can ask for pain meds and walk. I have been trying to stay on top of the pain.. Again just ask. I know we all have taken different paths to get to the same results. This is truly the best for me. Sorry for the rambling but ask if you have any questions! There is a bariatric wing at almater for dr aceves patients. Everyone I talk to has been wonderful and feeling good. It's nice to have this little community to recover with.

    Snacking....

I am not struggling with eating out of boredom YET, but I understand exactly what you are going through as I have done this my entire life. Planned snacks are great, and the nuts or jerky can fit into that plan. The key is having the mindset that the snack is fueling your body instead of just doing it because you are bored. I smoked cigarettes for 10 years. When I quit 10 years ago, I realized that "triggers" as they call it, were real. I mentally and unconsciously had a cigarette whenever a trigger was present. That trigger might be getting in the truck to drive. It might be the end of a meal. The point is that if you are snacking when you are bored, you are continuing the bad habit that got you into trouble in the first place. I think this is a big problem for most of us. We have to use this time to change that if we are to continue being successful. I work at a computer all day. I got my job to purchase a Veridesk for me, so that I can stand up and work. It does help. It takes me out of my comfort zone of sitting, and the cravings dissipate. I also burn more calories standing than sitting. Mind you, I don't do this all day. Just periodically. Maybe you can take a break and walk around the office for a minute or two whenever you get that craving. You are doing really well, and I have no doubt that you will continue to be successful. Mindless snacking might just be the thing that hinders you from meeting or exceeding your goal weight as the weight loss will undoubtedly slow down in the coming weeks and months. Anyway, good luck and thanks for bringing this up. This is a topic that is a real problem for most of us.
  14. I am 3 weeks post op and I am supposed to be taking calcium and wondered if you take a pill or do chewables? My doc said that I could just take a regular vitamin, but the nut told me that I should still be taking a chewable. They confused me since they were on different pages! When did you change to swallowing your vitamins and other supplements? I already swallow prylosec and synthroid.
  15. I too have pain when wearing a bra. I can tolerate it for maybe an hour then I want to yank it off. I am 3 weeks out and hoping that soon it will be better. I have to go to work next week!!! Ugh...

    Anthem BCBS

I have Anthem BCBS (which has different requirements than standard BCBS). Current BMI is 40.5... Just barely above the threshold for approval. I'm not required to have 6 months of physician monitored diet. I have all of my paperwork to submit for approval next week. Trouble is, my weight has teetered in the range of 35-39 BMI for the last several years. I'm at my highest weight now, at a BMI of almost 41. Has anyone gotten rejected by Anthem because their medical records did not show a history of 40+ BMI for a long period of time?

    Sugar Cravings?

Just wondering if anyone out there has extreme sugar cravings after fills. I'm guessing that my body knows that I've cut back on everything and sends a signal for something, anything..sugary! Generally, I'm not a sweets person (a more of a meat, potatoe, pasta girl) but for the last 2 weeks since I got my fill I am dying for any kind of sugar. Ideas?

    Sugar Cravings?

Sugar Free Fat Free chocolate pudding has saved my life. Just a little melodrama to let you know you're not alone. I really haven't noticed an increased desire for sweets since my fill, but I admit that I have something sweet at least once a week. If I didn't, I'd jump off a cliff. More melodrama.

    Energy drinks

I was initially advised not to drink coffee. But after 5 mons doc gave approval to drink it if i must. suggested that i mix it though. Truth is my stomach can't tolerate to much caffeine at all now. So I mix a small cup 1/2 decaf & 1/2 reg when I do drink it and it's satisfying. I really just drink it only once a week.

I am really craving a salad

The problem with getting your food marching orders from this forum is that you are going to hear about twenty different post-op eating plans, and maybe just tempted to go with the one you like the best. My post-op eating plan was NO RAW VEGGIES AT ALL until six months after surgery. Somehow I get the feeling you won't be wanting to jump on board with my plan At ten weeks post op I was allowed to eat green veggies, but only if they were soft enough that they could be cut easily with a fork. So, I rarely ate them because mushy veggies gross me out. I am allowed salad now, of course, but rarely choose it: it's nutritionally not a good deal when you consider how little protein you get versus how much stomach space it takes up. Give me a rare steak or a piece of delicious grilled swordfish any day instead. And that's only in restaurants -- I don't think about having salad at home, ever. I live alone and there is no way I could eat my way through the raw veggies I'd have to buy for a salad, even if I ate salad for every meal for days, before they all turned brown and slimy.
  25. Are you weighing 3 oz of protein and eating low cal/fat/carb only veggies? If you don't measure you will overeat.
