  1. my band was too tight for over 2 years and not only did I not lose, I gained back all the weight I had lost plus two lbs... talk about frustrating. I was told that if you are too tight, you generally (or i did anyway) eat foods that are easy to swallow and perhaps not as 'healthy' as we need. because I wasn't eating 3 small healthy meals, I was hungry all the time and snacked WAY too much. track what you eat and talk with your doctor. it is extremely possible that you are too full. Don't avoid the doctor... that was a mistake I made and it cost me 2 years that I could have been losing. Hang in there!
  2. Kinda Personal Question

I would say taking the first step with WLS is great. What is also important is to work on your body and mind as well so when the weight comes off you will be able to adjust your thought process as well. II must admit at first your mind is the hardest thing to adjust to this new life style and having the ability to talk with someone does help.

    let's talk about doubts, pre-ops!

I am the same as you to a point. I started considering the surgery in 2011. But was convinced I could do it alone. I gained and lost the same 40-50 pounds all through 2011-2012 and in 2013 I hit my all time high of 350. Then my feet and knees started hurting so bad exercise is all but impossible. I have slight fears. I am perfectly healthy except my weight. What if the surgery causes me to be unhealthy. What if I was going to live a longer life fat than if I developed a complications. But all in all I am sure of my dcision because, my daughter is only 3 years old. I spent all summer watching her play instead of playing with her. She loves rides and I cannot fit on them to go with her. SHe loves Water parks but I exceed the weight limit for the water slides. If she were to get hurt or be in danger I could not get to her in a tinley manner. I know I want this to improve our lives together.
  5. Hi, my surgery was 2 months ago on April 3rd. I had gastric bypass rny and since surgery, I've lost 25lbs. It seems kinda measly to me. Especially, for it to be rny. I'm seeing ppl with the sleeve or lapband losing more. I thought the weight comes off quicker with the bypass? Oh well, just so long as it comes off. I definitely feel so much better! How about you guys?

    Big pants

    From the album: Progress

These pants were tight when I was at my heaviest weight of 375... look! I'm a loser!! LOL
  7. Because when I inevitably indulge in foods that I shouldnt eat, when I go off the rails for 3 days before my period as I sometimes do, when i get insanely busy for weeks and lapse in my dedication to shopping and cooking healthily, I *STILL* cant eat enough to gain any weight and I can ALWAYS get back on track by making a committment to staying away from soft foods and eating the more solid ones first. Other than that I choose to eat healthy most of the time and I choose to go out and run every day. But even there, I found those behaviours much more rewarding when I actually saw weight lost as a result. The band gave me the results which enabled me to keep up those behaviours long enough for them to become habit. I now enjoy running just becuase and not because i expect to see 2 lb gone at the end of the week (which never happens any more).
  8. I was banded on 12/21 and I got on the scale two days later and had gained 6 pounds!! I cried!! Then I followed up with my doc 1 week post-op and I was down 7 pounds from the surgery day weight. I go up and down one to two pounds every couple days. I currently sit between 226 and 223, I'm ending my mushie stage and heading into soft food. The doc told me this is to be expected and to make sure I'm making good food choices, getting in my protein, following the diet to a tee. And, getting my exercise. He said I may even gain weight before my first fill because I haven't been eating anything of substance for weeks! So, I make sure I avoid all slider foods (and believe me I love my ice cream ) and follow the diet plan too a tee. I eat my 4 oz, and thats it. It will come off, I know, I've seen it happen. Best of luck to you!!!!
  9. Yay! There are people that has pcos and have been sleeved just like me!! Lol Anyways, I have found that my periods have become a lot better. The most thing that has improved since being sleeved is my acne. I actually might only have 1 pimple a month now. However, I am losing slow. My starting weight was 262 and now 8 months post-op it is 218. Slowly but surely.
  10. No - definitely not. My periods are getting more regular. My problem is the weight is coming off very slowly. how about you?

    Exercise...twice a day??

Weight/strength training and cardio are 2 different types of exercise. Cardio is for burning fat and strengthening your heart/lungs while weight training is solely to increase muscle mass which will, in turn, help you burn more calories at rest. I cant speak it's effectiveness in raising metabolism, but I do a cardio work out 5 to 6 days a week and add weight training 2 days/week for double exercise on those days. Have you looked into burst training (interval training)? My trainer has me do this when I use the elliptical to help speed up my metabolism and keep it elevated for a longer period after I'm done working out. http://www.draxe.com/burst-training/
  12. Is there only who had a sleeve who has pcos and symptoms have improved since weight loss?

    Stalling already?

If you are following your plan that is all you can do. Stay off the scale for at least a couple of weeks and keep doing what you are supposed to . . . the weight loss will pick up again, I promise, but you can't force it and there is no use stressing yourself out over it. Good luck!

So I keep expecting for my weight loss to stop. I am only 3 lbs from my goal my hair is super thin I'm questioning if I need a wig, and wondering when it will stop? Does anyone know? I have lost 120.8 lbs since October 15th, 2014. I am only 3 lbs from my goal of 135. How much smaller will I get?
  16. Hi everybody Im due to be banded on july 31st 2007 :clap2:and have been battling with my weight for about 22 years i was slim at one point but never realised it as i was so crap at liking myself and thought if i were thiner people would like me more the fact that i had a low self opinion due to my background never entred my head and that i had ENORMOUSE BOOBS :omg:and although i only had a twenty seven inch waist when i married DH i was told the only way to get rid of the boobies was to DIET! WRONG COS that led to years of yo yo diating and am now 87lbs heavier than when i wed DH. Boobs went with surgery:whoo:. So you may be asking why do i want to know what it feels like to be slim well its because its been such a long time i have forgotten. Cos even if i lose 30lbs i will still be thiner than i am now BUT i wanna go the whole way and its scaring the poop out of me as i have failed so many times before.:hungry: So all you lovely fellow bandsters out their who have pased that place that we get down to on convential diets and then start putting it back on again (my door slams shut at 12st 2lbs and then i get scared and it all piles on again) please can you tell me how you delt with it and how wonderful, frightened etc you felt and how it feels now.:help: thanks guys x 19 days till banding

How Dose It Feel To Be Thin

I don't know about anyone else, but I can still remember being skinny. I was 108lbs soaking wet as a teen and remember my step-mother saying over and over"Your too skinny, you need to gain some weight" A few years ago, I told her if I ever heard those words coming out of her mouth again....." Anyhow, I didn't finish the sentance but I got my point across. That was the point when I started eating more and more. Which didn't hurt me at first then as I started having major medical problems as I got older, I really piled the weight on and could not stop. This all seems like a really fast roller coaster ride and I still do not feel like I am as big as I am. That is why I am so shocked and embarrassed when I see pictures of myself. That's the time it really hits me how much weight I have put on since then. I enjoyed being skinny. Thought it was cool to be able to double cross my legs, and to see my ribs sticking out when I would breathe in. Still can't believe I cant get a regular pair of boots zipped up. Hehe...those were the days.....
  18. Chris- if there are any nurses over there who have given chemotherapy through a port, they'll be able to access your port and unfill you if you get stuck- its a similar process. You can ask your doc in NJ for a few huber needles (I think that's the kind that are used to do fills/unfills) for emergency use only if you are nervous. If you are still losing and have some days with restriction, I would either only get a tiny bit more (0.1-0.2 cc) or stay where you are just because you are going to be away so long. If your weight loss really slows while there, you can arrange for a fill the next time you are in the states; likely you won't gain any weight. Good luck and safe travels!!!

    Simple to start

Walk away the pounds dvd is a good one if you are just starting out. Also the biggest loser dvds are great. Lok on craigslist and amazon for used copies. Also check out your local library dvd section. I would recommend getting a 5, 8 & 10 lb hand weights too...2 lbs is not going to be enough very soon!
  20. Perhaps the new year will prompt you to re-commit to the process. Don't give up on yourself, and you may need counseling to help you through this process as self sabotage is something so many of us with long term obesity deal with, with our without our sleeved stomachs!! You may need to clean out the cupboards of foods that are too tempting ro resist and plan some Snacks that are better choices. Your sleeve will not reject most foods, and in fact if that is what you were looking for, the gastric bypass would have been more effective, and for many years the gastric sleeve was a pre-curser to full gastric bypass, so this is still a viable option for you if you have insurance and your doctor concurs. Unfortunately, the sleeve is just a tool to limit intake one session at a time. If you keep eating, the calories will mount. I am losing slowly as well, but I keep on trying. I bought some string cheese and olives to nosh on if I need a snack, and I do buy the Weight Watchers frozen dessert bars for late at night watching TV. If you are doing well during the day, try and mimic the same thing at night, PLAN what you will snack on and make sure its healthy...i.e. an apple with some Peanut Butter spread on it, some deviled eggs, popcorn, olives, beef jerkey, some nuts, some low fat cheese. Just don't give up. You can do this, and if you need help, heck get whatever you need, even hypnosis!! Good luck on your journey!!
  21. Chris... Great job on the weight loss! Good luck in Iraq. I had my lapband done at a teaching hospital in Boston (part of Harvard Medical) anyway there was a doctor that was doing his fellowship and assisted in putting in my band, he was also in the military and wore his uniform in the hospital. He left the hospital to be deployed to Iraq. I know this is a long shot but there is at least one doctor in Iraq that has done fills!!! I would suggest not getting a fill or an un-fill. If what you have now is working. I would just wait it out, you do not want any complications over there. Again....best of luck!
  22. If you cant get satisfaction from the bathroom scale, look for it in other areas. Start walking or running or lifting weights and set goals to either lift more or go father. Meeting those goals will help you feel some satisfaction.

    Sleeved Patients W/ Pcos

What symtems are you guys suffering from besides the weight gain. Mine are lots of hair loss, acne, facial hair
  24. I am currently working towards the goal of being approved for surgery I have to do a six month weight loss program through my doctor and am currently 2 month away from being done with that I have my EGD next week and my counseling appointment in two weeks everything is coming together so fast but I have to pay 5000 dollars out of pocket for my co-pay and was wondering if there were any programs who help people with that cost or somethings that you guys have done to get that paid
  25. With my new complication with the sleeve. And repeating several tests and having work done to fix the newest complications. I have become a topic of conversation in my area of the medical profession. I have been asked out of the blue by at least by 6 people who work at the hospitals and clinics how much weight I have lost...Stunned that that is the first question out of their mouths and instead of me keeping it close to my chest I tell them 200 lbs. It is only after that that they ask questions regarding the surgery. The next most asked question is would you recommend it? And then, would you do it again? Most that have found out how much I have lost, scream you must be proud. You should be on a poster in the hospital telling everyone there is hope. You must feel so good about yourself...I have thought about it a lot and I don't think proud is the word I feel...I feel a great sense of relief and a huge weight lifted off me literally. I feel that this is a life long journey for all of us and that pride has nothing to do with it. I did not win a contest or a marathon or the lottery or save millions of lives. I am working to save mine and it won't be done until I breath my last breath. A work in progress. Not to allow myself to get complacent over this new adventure and turn back to my old life... I am thrilled that I finally had the opportunity to get this gift of the sleeve. But there is no inner pride. There is satisfaction that I have gotten this far. But pride no. I still have so much work to do!!!
