I know right now you're feeling a lil down. Right after surgery most of us are for different situations. I posted right after my surgery how down I was phisically and emotionally and a lotttt of people told me that it gets better and now 3 weeks out I feel like new. Remember your body and soon your mind are going through a huge change they are battling inside, your body will heal if you look back been obese wasn't easy right. But now you know that as hard as it is it will get better. Besides when your husband comes back a new you (happier and sexier) will be ready to see him and continue a path that will be better for the both of you.

    Weight Loss Clusters?

I am the same way..... only my waiting periods in between weight loss is about 3-4 weeks. I am losing in stalls.... but still losing! Doesnt help that I weigh first thing EVERY morning... This last 50 that I need to lose are going to be a b***h!
  3. I used Ariel Ortiz at Obesity Control Center in December 2013. Great experience, great care. Absolutely no complaints or regrets. Talented group of surgeons and good pre/post op follow-up. I lost 113 lbs total - maintaining 18 months later. Attached are my year photos - haven't taken any recently. I do Zumba 3-4 days a week and just did my first 5K this past Saturday. 4. Hi everyone, I am new to this. I began my journey towards a bariatric sleeve in Jan, but stopped going to the nutritionist in March. So, I have started all over. I have already completed my cardiology clearance, got my blood work done, and my 1st nutritionist appointment done down also. Today I did my upper GI scan and it makes me so excited that I am getting closer to my surgery. I have so many questions and watch so many videos on YouTube. I only need to do my pulmonary exam and psych, then 5 more appointments for nutrition which are scheduled 3 weeks apart. I have state insurance and they require 6 consecutive visits. But, my worry is that I complete my appointments and don't lose any weight or get denied. Since March I gained 10 pounds. I am drinking water, which I don't usually do, keeping a journal of my intake of food, high protein low carb, stopped grazing... any tips? Anyone go through state medicaid for sx? Any bumps in the road with weight?
  5. I have never written before, but have read through many of the posts. I was banded on July 21st and weight loss has been elusive. I lost about 15 lbs on the liver shrinking diet and then nothing until last week. Last week I lost 7 lbs, but this week the scale is either slowly going up or staying the same. I usually have a Protein shake for Breakfast and a Protein Bar for lunch and then try some type of meat for dinner. I had my first fill last week of 3 cc's. I am not sure what I am doing wrong, but I feel like something isn't working. Any suggestions? Thanks!!!

    When to start solids

Follow your surgeon's post op directions. Everyone is different (sadly). Per exercise I was told no more than walking for 6 weeks. Doing too much too soon can lead to future problems. Rest and get your protein in.
  7. Hi I am almost 3 weeks post surgery and I lost about 20 lbs in the first 2 weeks but now that I am eating I have gained about 4 lbs back. Is this normal or should I not have gained at all? Thanks Rosie

I definitely feel your pain (and all the other unpleasantness). I got a C. diff infection about 5-6 weeks after my VSG. Mine was a result of the clindamycin my dentist put me on for a tooth abcess, but having a teeny tiny tummy definitely hindered my ability to stay hydrated. You said you "most likely" have a C. diff infection. Did your doctor test for it? If not, I recommend the PCR test rather than the ELISA as the latter has a higher rate of false negatives. A positive confirmation may qualify you for any number of ongoing clinical trials for C. diff treatments. A was asked to participate in one, but the infectious disease center was located 60miles away and I just couldn't fit that much travel into my work schedule. Here are the posts that describe what I went through and what I eventually had to do to clear the infection. Good luck, I sure hope you have an easier time than I did. Feel free to ask any questions as I became kind of a C. diff expert. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/296042-possible-c-difficile-bummer/ http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/297327-diarrhea-is-back/ http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/300646-calling-all-poop-donors/ http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/303173-fecal-transplant-scheduled/
  10. Elena, you are doing fantastic! I've found my weight loss can be inconsistent or not as I expected. I'll go weeks, like Donali, and not show a loss, then almost overnight 2 pounds go away. Then one week I am hot on the weight loss. Another, I am keeping the same weight. Also, many folks might lose a good bit at the beginning and slow. I know I did. 1-2 pounds, on average, per week works for me!!! Fitday.com is a good tool. Shawn

    fill releif!

WOW sorry to hear that you had an overfill. That's very common and sometimes you don't know you're overfilled till days and weeks late. We all react differently to fills. Some instantly feel too tight, Some have swelling that eventually goes down, others wait weeks then the stomach gets irritated and then swells. I have a great doc that seems to do quite well with my fills. He puts the needs in and has me stand up and he fills the band completely. he has me take a drink of water, he slowly retracts the saline from the band. When I tell him to stop he leaves the fill where it's at. I just say stop when I feel the water begin to pass through the band.

    Mexico or Bust!!!

Hi there! I too made the decision to head south of the border with Dr Kelly at the Oasis Center just over a week ago on 3.28. ;o) It was small compared to what the hospitals look like in the US, and maybe a little older looking, however my private room had everything I needed for 2 days. As soon as I was admitted, they started doing all my testing right there: Urine sample, EKG, medical backround, chat with the Dr and that was pretty much it. I had the sleeve done at 6:30pm and was up walking around about 1am, wanted to sooner however had really low blood pressure and they advised not to. The first 2 days was pretty bad-I mean it's major surgery afterall. However, the nurses all took such great care of me and Dr Kelly was great at easing my anxieties and answering questions. I went alone and it was totally fine. You are in bed pretty much the whole time either sleeping or resting in the hospital, so my husband would have been bored with nothing to do around the area. I brought a book, loose fitting yoga pants, slippers, gas-x, chapstick and a few changes of clothes. Everything else was provided. After 2 days, I moved to the really nice Hotel Lucerna with another patient that was sleeved the same day as me (my new friend and sleeve buddy). Dr Kellys' asst, Trish was right there with us to explain our meds, diet, answer questions, etc. She bought us Jello, gatorade and our gauze and tape for the incisions. She took other patients shopping, or whatever, however we were just as happy sitting by the pool getting some Vit D!! It helped to talk with another person who was going thru exactly what I was adn I would Skype with my husband in the evenings. I am thrilled with my decision to head down to MX for my sleeve! Once I had done all my research on the doctors and officially made my decision, I was sleeved within 3 weeks! I think prices can range from $5k-10k depending on the doctor and when you call, some may be running specials. I am healing nicely and was already back to work answering emails the day after surgery! Fully back to work last Friday, just 4 days post-op. Including the 2-week liquid pre-op diet, today I am down 21 lbs! I feel like I'm on the road to being who I really want to be!! Good luck!!

First, a bit of advice: If you have symptoms that concern you, please call your doctor sooner rather than later. After my VSG, as I transitioned from liquids and "mushies" to solid food during weeks four and five post-op, I thought my bowel movements would become more normal. They didn't. I had VSG rather than a gastric bypass, but since I had problems with dumping before surgery if I ate too much of the wrong foods, I thought it could be dumping syndrome. I started experimenting with my diet, hoping to eliminate any foods that were causing the supposed dumping. Finally, I realized this wasn't dumping. It was unrelenting diarrhea. At the nine-week follow-up appointment with my surgeon earlier this week, I told him about it. He said I most likely have Clostridium difficile (C.diff) colitis, and he prescribed a targeted antibiotic. The C.diff overgrowth can be caused by the broad-spectrum antibiotics used after surgery. I'm pretty miserable right now. My tiny tummy doesn't tolerate the antibiotics well, so I get nauseated every time I eat. My guts are still quite unhappy, so I can't stray far from the bathroom. I'm dehydrated because I'm having trouble drinking enough Water. I'm super tired. (Thank you for attending my little pity party.) If I had called my surgeon a few weeks ago, I might have avoided some of this gastrointestinal misery. :-)

    In the ER.......

Thank you all. Good news is no leak but inflamed diverculitis.....The NP called my surgeon I have to go in the office next week. I was given a prescription for pain but nothing for antibiotics. I will keep you posted on what the surgeon says next week. Have a wonderful day!
  15. Hi Reba, I've only just had my surgery under two weeks ago so I don't know how much help I could be. But I can share that I did not have heartburn before my surgery yet, I had a hiatal hernia that my surgeon repaired during the surgery. I am on Prylosec (sp?) once per day for the next six months. I will most likely wean off after the six months are up. My surgeon told me that only about 5% of people continue with heartburn post surgery - of those who had it before surgery. He's performed well over 3,500 of these and in his practice he's not had anyone have heartburn after the surgery who did not already have it before hand. Most get better post surgery. He attributes this to the hernia repairs, which he does routinely if one is there. Regarding vitamines, I could not stomach the chewables (pun intended :-) ) after the surgery so, I am on liquid. I take a brand called Blue Bonnet. Each dose had 5 carbs but I am not concerned. They work really well, go down with no prob. Taste is a little yukky but so what? :-) I don't have difficiencies and my surgeon does not expect I will have any - barring some kind of complication etc. Currently I feel great. In fact, right around two days ago I began feeling such energy that I described it as euphoria! LOL I think my happiness and joy and hope for the future has contributed to that. I feel great though. Best of luck to you in the process. I know it can be scary!!! One more tip, the psychologist that did my eval turned out to be an incredible person who has been a wonderful source of support. He really helped me address lots of fears and concerns... better than the surgeon!!! Hope this helps a bit. Once again, good luck on your journey!
  16. So sorry you had to unfill....what lead up to it? It happened to me a few weeks ago but I swelled up after a piece of meat got stuck and the swelling just wouldn't go away till I got an unfill. Good luck. Mimi
  17. the doc was not sure... i have not been over eating at all..... it was noticeable a little bit last mont at my fill and then this time he was like we gotta fix it..... the bottom part of my stomach was up some in the top part of myy band.... even more so this time from last. have had no bad signs or anything... only thing i can think of is drinking too much water? he really could not explain it..... he said the uunfill should fix it tho..... im just sad because the last two or three fills i have done so well and have lost pretty much 50 lbs those last three times.

    Waitin' on a date!

Ok, well surely I will be October also. I have been at it since my initial consultation the end of January. My insurance required a three month supervised program, then there was some delay in getting the insurance straight. I have Dr. Chen since Dr. Shuster won't take anyone 65 or over (I'm 66). I couldn't go to the last support group given by the psychologist, but I usually make them all and find they are useful. Let me know as soon as you hear something and I will do the same!

    Watermelon

My doctor said that I could have it in moderation. Just to make sure that it is not the "stringy" stage where it starts falling apart. As others have said, with watermelon you walk a fine line between fruit and sugary fruit. So yes, you can have it, just don't over indulge. I started eating it about 3 weeks out and it was wonderful! I love it and find it to be my summer go to snack. I put it in a small Tupperware container so that there is portion control.
  21. I was banded in the UK. I have spoken to my consultants office on a few occasions reagarding this pain, but I am not able to call my surgeon direct, this is not permitted. Any problems anybody may have if they have been banded via this group, must go through them and not direct to the surgeon. If however, I was banded by the surgeon through the NHS here in the UK, then this would be a different matter, as my consultation would have been with the surgeon at the beginning. The pain is not as bad today, and this morning it was more of a prodding sensation in the centre, and towards the left below the ribs. Lets hope that it's just scar tissue/healing. I have been informed that I should have a fill in about 2 weeks time, looking forward to this as it will finally put my mind at rest and hopefully be able to feel what a band is actually like when working!!! Will keep you all updated.

    2 Weeks Post OP!

Holy crap! Has it been two weeks since August 22nd... Yup, it sure has!! It went by fast, at the time it didn't.. But now it feels like it did.. This past week I really feel like I've felt my best. I had a few "baby's day out" days.. Yesterday I ran some errands, didn't get exhausted or sore... I think I'm really to increase my walking. I weighed myself today... Surgery day weight was 256, and today I weighed 242. That's 14 lbs in two weeks?! I'll take that! Target skirt here I come! I should have taken measurements on surgery day, but I didn't. I'm going to do that today, to see how many inches I'm losing now, especially with the increase in exercise. I'm doing better with my intake. Yesterday I got super close to my 60/64.. Today we'll see how I do. I'm kicking myself because we got the bariatric advantage protein meal replacement shakes, and it's super gross!! High in protein, but waaayyy toooo sweet!! But I made one with some peanut butter and a little chocolate syrup and it was ok.. But ick.. After I finish the bag, I might go back to my EAS stuff. Hopefully by then I'll be on mushies atleast. I have one more week of just liquids, then move on to mushies.. The first thing I want is a scrambled egg with cheese!! Very first thing on my mushies list!! I am amazed at how bad I want real food. The process of chewing real food, I miss that! I am having problems with not chugging my drinks. Before I could down a half bottle of water only having to come up for air.. I can't do that now.. I was sooo thirsty at church on Sunday, I got an applejuice. I started just chugging it, I thought I was going to puke during worship! I had to sit down and just be like uuuggghhhhh.... Anyhoo... How are the other newly sleeved peeps doing? Or older sleeved? What's your story?
  23. Congrats on the weight lost, it's amazing how quickly you are losing! I'm only a few weeks behind you in having vsg and I'm hoping to lose about 60-70 lbs at 6 months out. You are doing great, keep those voices quiet, and work on a plan that works for you.

    Post op 11-12-07

Congratulations Brenda! :clap2: I had that feeling sometimes... like you forget to breath or it skips a beat. I spoke to the nurse at my surgery and she said that it was quite normal. Haven't noticed it happening in the last week. I suggest you call your doctor's office just to be sure.

    PCOS/Endometriosis

Fellow PCOS’er here too... I’m only 6 weeks post op but I’ve had two periods so far. I had not had one in 18 months, then one week into my pre op diet I started. It wasn’t too bad. Then 36 days later I started again. This time, holy hell...it was like a damn broke loose. TMI. I called the doctor it freaked me out. I bled less/clots after having multiple kids! They said it was totally normal and it’s just the crazy hormones. I am hoping for more symptom relief as time goes on!
