I just want everyone to know today I received my surgery date which is 10/29/12. I have serveral appointments to make, prep for a 2 week fast and shopping for essentials after surgery. I am excited. I have bcbs insurance and after all paperwork was submitted it only took 3 days for approval. I want everyone who participates in responses and post thier journeys (good or bad) how informative and extremely helpful it has been to me. Truly if you are not a participant in this journey, most people can never understand where we have to go mentally and physically. For you pre and post sleevers I congradulate and honor your presence for truly you are people of courage, insight, preservance and you dared to dream that your lives count! I will be posting various aspects of my journey! I welcome your comments.

Hi, I was on Effexor prior to surgery and quit right before my VGS surgery and stayed off for a week after. When I went back to them I went back to my regular dose and threw it up almost immediately. It made me so sick! Even after I cut my dose down to a quarter of what it was, I was still nauseated and sick after taking it. I wound up giving it up. Its been hard, not having them, alcohol or food to help my mood, but I am doind ok. Some days are better than others. Im trying Kava powder and exersize. I hope that you will have a better tolerance for the meds, but if you don't, I wish you the best. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

I am one week postop and I am having a very hard time getting on a meal and protein drink schedule. So far I've just been able to tolerate Jell-O and only a couple of days have I been able to get down all three protein drinks. I'm wondering what works for everyone else as far as approximately what time you eat and what time you drink a shake. Thanks so much.

Hi there -- I am scheduled for surgery on 2/1. I am on clear liquid pre op diet (broth, Jello, popsicles, etc.) without any Protein, and expect to be on the same diet post surgery, so far it has been 5 days and I have 10 days ahead of me. I feel really weak and exhausted. Has anyone else faced this? I am hoping it is like other things where once you hit a wall and move on it gets better ... wishful thinking, I suppose. Thanks. Cynthia

Did you enjoy your weight loss journey?
JeanZ_RN replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was impatient at first but after hearing the following several times, I got to a place of more patience with the process. (1) the weight didn't get there overnight and it's not going to disappear overnight; (2) slow weight loss (2-3 lbs a week) is safer and healthier (3) slow weight loss will minimize saggy skin It probably helps that I'm 60 years old, 'cause if there's one thing that life has impressed upon me (beaten into me) it is that there's no point getting antsy about something that you can't really affect. It's gonna get here when it gets here, no matter if I agitate about it or not. The only difference is that if I fuss and fume, it's going to SEEM like it's taking LONGER. So now I go about my business and relegate the weight loss to a secondary position in my life. I do still talk about it a lot with my close friends, and I get excited about the milestones (like BMI under 30 a few days ago), but I'm able to work and enjoy life day by day too. There's a wise saying that I don't remember exactly, but it's something about we can't always control what happens to us, but we CAN control how we react to it. Best wishes! -
At eight week, I was free to eat whatever. I would choose a fish if you can. Avoid grilled chicken because most places overcook chicken making it too hard to eat. I would also ask if they have a grill veg. For Olive Garden, Chicken Marsala would probably be ok. minus the potatoes asked for grilled/steamed veg or more mushroom. The herb-grilled salmon would be perfect as its just a salmon filet brushed with Italian herbs and extra-virgin olive oil. Served with seasoned broccoli. For the Steakhouse, Buffalo Shrimp (naked - no breading if they can do it) or Any of the Catch of the Day minus the potatoes, or the Oriental Chicken. Remember to ask for a togo box right away or bring your own. Good luck.

bgaddis replied to acoleman380's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know how you feel!!!! I just had mine done last week and it was horrible!!! The only thing that helped was walking and stoping every few minutes and having hubby rub my back up and down for a few minutes!!! I seriously thought I was having a heart attack!!! I hope you can find something to relieve your pain, it does get better!!! Hugs Barb -
When was your first 'stall' and how long did it last?
Im14fun posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine began after I had completed my second week post op. Now approaching my 1 month mark and STILL in a stall! It's just starting to piss me off now. As far as getting past it, did most of you change what you were doing, or just ride it out? -
Dr. Boorse is doing mine. I met with him last week to ask all my questions. However, at this point I don't think anything will ease my mind. I am so nervous about the whole thing I have been tempted to cancel a few times do to cold feet.

scared to remove 60% of my stomach forever.
zoftig replied to inmatchesout's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think most of us feel guilt and shame, but fact of the matter is that 95% of people who lose, gain it back...plus some. I finally realized I was not in that 5% so it was either make peace with my size or surgery, (which is the one thing shown to make inroads into battling obesity). Also, it's not like you get surgery and get to do whatever you want. Trust us there is still lots of work to do, but the sleeve is a tool making the motivation and work so much easier (I'm hoping, only one week out). You can still take pride afterwards in watching what you are eating. -
How distracted are you?
Froggie D replied to onikenbai's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have always been a pretty focused person, but I am waiting for the word from my surgeon about a date, and I am having a really hard time accomplishing anything at work. I can't seem to remember things, I forget what I am doing, and I keep looking at my cell phone waiting for the call. I think it is just excitement. Sort of feels like it did the week before Christmas vacation started when I was a kid. -
When was your first 'stall' and how long did it last?
taylokat replied to Im14fun's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 15 weeks and never had a stall. About every 4 weeks I have a week with no loss, but the next week is a big loss. I'm sure that's hormonal. Weighing once weekly has been a godsend. It's easy to track patterns. I would be a wreck if I weighed every single day, there's no way to track trends. That's crazy! -
When I went to my 2 week check-up, the PA told me that if I had pain and did not want to take pain meds that I should take children's liquid Tylenol. I was told not to take a pill that was larger than a pencil eraser. I am now 6 weeks post-op and I had a headache earlier. Is taking liquid Tylenol a forever thing or can I start taking the pill form? I took the liquid just to be safe but I would rather just pop a pill and get it over with. LOL

Would there be a Co-Pay for Bariatric Surgery with Medicare and Medicaid?
traceythebunny replied to gsdwccom's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I have just medicaid and The only thing I had to pay out of pocket for was my liquid diet kit. For me that was $332 for 3 weeks before surgury and 2 weeks after. What I would do is get a refural from your primary doctor and then work with the surgon. Once My approval came back from medicaid They told me that I would not have any co pays. If i was you I would just try and see you may be lucky and not have to pay anything out of pocket ecept for the liquid diet. Good luck -
I have been doing Water aerobics 2-3 times a week. And, I was looking for something to do on the days that I don't go to the gym for that glass. Well, Today I was browsing for something to watch on tv.. and found that there's an EXERCISE channel offered for FREE! I checked a few out, and they look awesome! I'm excited. I'm trying to find as many resources I can now before having the surgery so that I never have an excuse NOT to work out! :rolleyes2:

Do you think it could be used in that first couple of weeks post op?
-
I lost 30 pounds my first 2 weeks from surgery. Now I have not lost a pound for 10 days. Is this normal? I regularly exercise and eat as my surgeon suggest. I have lost inches during this phase. I am just wondering how long will these plateaus last and what should I do while experiencing them?

60g protein + 64oz water at 3 weeks = impossible!
miangr replied to takingbackcontrol's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
EXACTLY how I feel. I'll be 3 wks in two days and sometimes I hardly get in 20 g of protein and I'm full all day long. I try to rotate protein w Water because I'm so thirsty. Glad to know I'm not the only one not getting all 60g each day
