  1. Blue Diamond Artisan Nut Thins are really tasty and only about 10 calories / 1.5 carbs per cracker. They are also wheat/gluten free if that matters to you. I just finished 6 of them with some edamame hummus and it was a really good snack/lunch during the end of the Cowboys game. The Kays and Quest chips are good but pretty pricey IMHO.
  2. In general, I have been very honest with people about my surgery. I didn't broadcast it on social media but if anyone asked me, I answered truthfully. That way I didn't need to keep track of who I told what, kwim? (My choice, you can all choose for yourselves.) However, now that I am close to goal weight, people have started asking if I intend to lose any more weight, and then promptly tell me not to. Believe me, I am nowhere near anorexic. I'm still a solid size 14 in most clothes. I think their perception is the "difference" in my weight, not in the physical reality of what I weigh now. Anyway, my truthful time is over. When they ask, I'm just going to say "Nope, I think I'm good." Then I'll proceed to do whatever the heck I want to do anyway. Sort of like being a teenager again. I doubt anyone but me (and probably hubby) will actually notice if I lose another 5-10 pounds but the subject is not up for public debate, especially with people who want to tell me how bad I'll look. /Rant Over/
  3. Sleeved 10/09. Started to finally feel good but now I’m getting sharp pain under my right breast. Thought it was gas but it’s not moving. Gas X not helping at all and I do not have a gall bladder. I also feel blocked sometimes when drinking or eating. Related? I don’t know...Anyone else experience this? (I’ve lost 46 lbs so far. I don’t eat much. I can’t take vitamins-they make me sick. I’m not drinking anywhere near the required fluids. All of this my doctor is aware. I’ve had a really tough time. IBS is not really bad and it caused a fissure.)Thx in advance.
  4. I want to put my experience out there as I had a hard time finding any recent conversations about low BMI sleevers. I hope that my thread can help people like myself that was looking for information pre and post op. I was self paid with surgery in early November. I am 5’3. I started with a BMI of 32. I had high cholesterol, sleep apnea, and joint pain. 1st doc visit weight- 182 SW- 170 measurements: under bust 36, waist 38, thigh 23, arm 12 Week 1- 157 Measurements: ub 33, w 36, t 22, a 11 Week 2- 155 Measurements: ub 32.5, w 36, t 22, a 11 Week 3- 150 Measurements: ub 32, w 35, t 20, a 11 Week 4- 149 Measurements ub 33, w 34, t 19, a 11 Week 5- 146 Measurements ub 32.5, w 34, t 19, a 10 After surgery I overall feel pretty good. My joints don’t hurt as much as they did before and I sleep better. I do have a hard time getting my recommended water intake as well as my protein. That is a work in progress. I do not work out yet, as I don’t feel completely healed nor have I been released to. I go back to the doc in early January.
  5. I also have BCBS IL and went thru the same thing. I started the process in Aug 2018 to have a revision from the rny(2012) to the DS. Got the denial letter stating I was denied because I showed no proof I had continued doctor supervision. My BMI was also under 50 but the letter made no reference to that being another reason. I actually had to send my copy of the denial letter to the doctor because the insurance was unresponsive to the request they made for their copy!! The doctors also set up a peer to peer meeting and that same day I was approved. My surgery date is set for Jan 7 2019. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. When it comes to a post op diet it seems every doctor is different. Mine goes in 2 week cycles. But when my new cycle starts and I can’t tolerate it I step back down to the previous one for another week. Then go up again after that. It all depends on how your body reacts. My NUT told me it can take 4 to 6 months for some people to eat solids again after a RNY. That is also the surgery I am having January 15, 2019.

    October 2018 Sleevers

I am officially down more than 45 pounds! As of this morning I'm down 46 pounds- 36 post-surgery (10/17) and 10 on the pre-op diet. Pre-op diet 10/3: 275 Surgery day 10/17: 265 Today 12/23: 229 I'm so close to 50 pounds down that I can taste it! But I won't because I don't want to ruin my progress. Lol. This is especially sweet because I didn't make the best choices yesterday, which is rare for me, and I was feeling VERY hungry- almost like a bottomless pit that couldn't be satisfied. I just couldn't get full/satisfied! I ate about 3 times as many calories as I normally do. (Over 1500 calories yesterday as compared to my average of 500-600). It was bizarre and a little scary. Upping the water intake today and going to watch myself closely. 79 pounds to goal weight! It's starting to feel attainable!!
  8. Think about this.. in all aspects of life.. the only people you see say something for the most part, are those that have issues. Whether it be with surgery, restaurant experiences, shopping online issues.. customer service issues, any issues.. 10 bad to 1 good as the good have no reason to complain, they rarely will say anything.. There is a lot of good out there. This is your journey, not those of others. I saw a post on fb the other day where somebody said.. i have had no issues, am i the only one.. It was nice to see over 100 comments of the same thing. I for one have had no issues, yes i had the sleeve, but still no issues. No pain issues since awakening in the hospital, no food issues (besides the occasional eating too fast). no water intake issues.. so there is good out there.. Stop reading what everybody else is going through and focus on what you can do for you. There is so much information on the boards of what happens to others, but that is others, and doesn't necessarily mean you. What you can do with the information is be prepared in case something does happen to you and you will be armed with how to tolerate or handle it which will then make your transition a lot easier. Good Luck and feel better!

    Tips Needed Please

Hi there! So I struggled with this too. My family is kind of a jump in before it's gone type of family, and I kid you not everyone is usually done eating less than 10 minutes at the table. Crazy. I could never do the whole timer thing. I felt like it forced 30 minutes of my life to be dedicated solely and completely to food. So instead of practice mindful tactics. In between each bite, I PUT DOWN my utensil. That simple thing slowed my consumption down significantly. It also gave me time to chat and talk with the people at my table. When I'm alone, it gives me a moment to think about something else. It becomes a relaxing time instead of "Did I chew 32 times for optimal time allotment?" or "Is my pouch too full, what serving size will fill the space?" I guess it seems kind of simple, but it really worked for me.

    Please Help, I am worried

I am 19 days post op and can drink as normal now, I have to make myself slow down. Pre surgery I drank over a gallon of water a day for years. I’m not taking in as much now, I’m averaging 90 oz and my system sure can tell. My NUT told me as long as the fluids weren’t causing me discomfort I can drink what I want as tolerated.
  14. I also think we in the post WLS are more aware of the food and our surroundings. I for one.. can smell something now over 10 ft away and it drives me bananas. People in today's world look at food as a second nature must do.. Forget restaurants and serving sizes.. we in America do not even think about the amount of food that we are served, just that we have to clean our plates. If America keeps up this trend, this article is correct.. it is only going to get worse.
  15. It all depends on your weight. I happen to lose 20 but i started higher so i had more to lose.. Well 19.5 to be precise. The scale at home and the scale at the hospital were different by half pound.. Today i am down a total of almost 45 including the preop. I am good with this..My cycle showed up the night before surgery. Then again on the 17th of this month. I can say from all the stories i read about cycles changing.. I was lucky! Mine was normal, just 10 days late LOL.. Gone in time for Christmas!!! YAY! Anyways everybody is different so do not compare yourself to others, it will only frustrate you. This is your journey and you will be different than everybody else. Good Luck on your Journey!

I Believe It Was Worth It

This a million times! ^^^^^^ I heart all of yas! Yes, for me my only regret from this was that I didn't do it sooner...like YEARS sooner! I'm off 7 drugs!!! My high BP is in remission, so is my insulin resistance, so is my asthma, so is my BC. My average daily pain level has gone from an 8 to a 3-4. I sleep longer than 1-2 hour stretches (can now sleep 4 hours at a time). So much better!!! I was chair bound (slept in a recliner). And couldn't stand longer than 5-10 minutes and could barely walk to the "terlet" or shower. I was so isolated and it was such a taxing thing for Mr. F. Now I can do SO much more. I can take care of myself and my body, clean, make dinner, shop, meet with friends and am taking business meetings again. I walk 1 hour per day (sometimes more). I feel like I have a life again. The last time I weighed what I do, I was in high school. I regret nothing other than whining so much about fear of not being covered by insurance. (Heck I don't even regret being such an obsessive ninnymuggins...
  17. Could be right after Christmas but my personal bet, either January 4th or January 7th 2019. But I would be HAPPY to be proved Wrong!👈👸👉
  18. MO- Lee's Summit, do we now do the traditional colon prep or is there some consideration given for our unique new anatomy? I think my last I did Ducolax followed by the dreaded Mag Citrate, but that was over 5 years ago, now that I am having upper GI problems am I maybe going to move up in frequency also? I know many, it's only every 10 years. Just wondering, do you or anyone else have an answer for ME?
  19. I lost 15 pounds on my liver shrink and at 73(same day as your surgery) I have the natural metabolism of a seasick sea slug, so 10 should be in the okay range, many things may be the same, but we are all individuals, that's what makes life varied and interesting. YOU end up making your own kind of music🎶, if you remain true to YOU the song is never wrong! Have a Happy Life!❤😛❤
  20. I have my surgery December 26th, 2018 the day after Christmas and I have been following my pre-op diet and was wondering how much weight is one expected to loose? I am day 11 and my weight loss has seemed to stall. I am only 10 lbs down from beginning weight of pre-op diet and have seemed to stall there? Is this normal? Also, normally I do not have menstrual cycles but started my period 3 days ago. When I tried Keto in the past, I also bled the whole month I was on it until I raised my carbs? Seem that I bleed every time I lower my carbs and it's just miserable. Has anyone else had issues like this?

I fear it's wasted on me

GGLFH, OMG I am so so sorry to hear this! Are you and Andrea💞 still together, if so I'm sure she is helping you through this twisted and tortued path. Yes- your Mama would be very proud of you, if you remember from before, I always felt she was one of your most committed supporters. And you should dedicate each, pound lost to her memory, because if there is a Heaven as I was taught, she is watching and smiling, maybe telling the other angels " Look, that is MY BABY GIRL. Look how wonderfully she is doing. I am so proud." USALLY I agree with Orchids and Dragons, we have become very close Bariatric Pals, but we no longer all like to eat, I am an exception, & perhaps I too will need therapy. Today I do not care if I eat again. So often when I attempt I urp up or vomit. I have had a PICC LINE in since November 29th & at the least it will be in until mid- January. 14 hours each day I am fed by TPN, so I have 10 free hours when I do not wear a backpack, with my pump and feeding solution in it. I try to do my household duties then, shop if necessary. I tried to speak with my surgeon and dietician about this on December 17th, they were rather dismissive, "Don't worry, it is because your getting sufficent calories from the liquid feed" but I have a deep-seated conviction they may be wrong. So I will reach out to my surgeon one more time on January 15th, if necessary make him sit down a minute instead of him being a Doorknob Doctor, one hand on the door knob so he can keep moving. I hate to sound whine-like but HE IS Not Addressing my needs! I have lost 50+ pounds since surgery in September but just now starting to go 8nto a smaller size. Lost weight in arms , neck, shoulders , face firsts Now tummy, thighs , blobs and rump are finally, following up. They always say as you lose you start looking like a younger cuter version of yourself, not ME- look like,my Mama and my Aunt Grace and they are long-dead. But Good to hear from, you once again!😛👍🍀💞
  22. And 2019 will dawn a Banner Years for all of us! The old saying is- What does not kill me, only strenghtens me , could be true but I do reserve the right to be POed and scream!

100 lbs in under a year?

    I lost 107 lbs in about 10 months. It’s possible :)
  24. Hello all! This is my first time posting in this forum. I'm 10 days post op for VSG and everything seems to be going well. But, I'm scared to death that I'm messing up somehow. I'm getting my fluids in and taking about 3 ounces of broth/soup/blended soup or protein shake every few hours (on full liquids at this point). I'm taking in about 12 ounces total of non-water/full liquids. I'm not really feeling hungry or anything. My fear has to do with feeling full. At first, I was feeling pain in my stomach when getting "full" but that sensation has pretty much gone away. I still feel a twinge when I've had enough soup or whatever, but I'm just wondering if this is "normal." (That I've stopped having the pain) What do you think? Am I overthinking things? Should I just be thankful I'm not feeling the pain anymore? TIA!
  25. hello fellow wls patients! I am so excited, finally after 3 months of denials and trials, I am approved! My surgery is set for January 7th, 2019. Darn insurance really just wanted me to pay the deductible and out of pocket maximum again I know it! I'm very excited and not nervous at all. One thing that makes my situation different than some, is I am breastfeeding! Shes now 5 months old and about to start some solids next month. Although, mamas milk is number 1 nutrition. My surgeon, lactation support person and babies pediatric dr are all supportive. The main thing for me is fluids, fluids, fluids! My milk never fluctuates even at 500 calories, I eat a lot of protein and healthy fat. I cant wait for this. I live such a restrictive life with food as it is with hardly any success of weight loss. I only gained 6lbs while pregnant and have now lost 25lbs...in 5 months with breastfeeding, eating under 20 carbs a day. I'm glad I've stuck with it though as it will be helpful after surgery. anyway, sorry for rambling. I'm so excited!
