    How to tell your parents???

I have not told my parents. My mom has been trying to get the bypass surgery. She has had insurance issues. Because, my WLS process was so quick and she has been struggling for so long, I just don't have the heart to tell her. I have not told anyone, other than my sis. And I only told her in case something bad were to happen. She is my emergency contact person. I would suggest telling your mom all your health issues and why it is so important to have this surgery. Their your parents. They will still worry about you and continue to love you. Take it from a mom who has a 24 yeard old girl and a 19 year old son. We worry about you regardless of how old you are. Best regards!

    Weekly Weigh in

me too... I think I used the term only for my 1 1/2 pound loss because of my previous weeks loss being 10 pounds. I know they all add up!! Bet you cant wait to be banded Kerri... Good luck for when its you joining the "losers" XX
  5. I am doing research on my upcoming surgery and I just read on a different website that some people have to take 10-15 vitamins a day! Is this an extreme case or is this the norm?
  6. Oh my goodness! You are the British me!! I'm Heather. I'm 5'4" and was sleeved on 12/29/16 at 253 lbs. I am currently at 226 lbs and progressing nicely. PCOS is my struggle as well. I have been on spironolactone for symptoms for the past 10 years. I am 100 lbs down from my heaviest of 327 lbs (lap band that I had removed at my sleeve on 12/29). As I lose, my PCOS symptoms get better, my vision improves, my other medications lessen (but not the spiro for PCOS, unfortunately) and I feel GREAT! I agree with you on NO birth control. I'm 38 and don't want to run the risk of blood clots. I'm not trying to get pregnant so spiro is perfect for me! I find that I have to work harder, eat NO sugar, no carbs, no fruit and workout 6-8 hours per week to have continued success. Since I have been off of sugar and carbs since surgery, I don't have the cravings for them. I have some definite opinions about Protein shakes. My favorite are the Quest brand of powder. I have one in some variety every morning. I mix with cold coffee for an iced latte or just Water and PB2 for a Peanut Butter shake. Four weeks post op RNY

I had RNY 10/11 surgery weight 211 and I'm 190 now. So about the same as you. I figure the slower it comes off the better chance of keeping off. I'm also hoping it will mean less saggy skin. Keep following the plan. You're doing great!

Hi all my fellow sleevers I am pre op getting ready about three weeks to go. It has been a long six months getting ready. I am 5,11 262lbs all of it around my waist so I get asked at least once a week when I am due. I often tell them I have no uterus and am 51 years old but thank you for thinking I am still in my child bearing years. I used to try to be polite smile and make up a date so they were not embarrassed for asking. I have done tons of research and feel very confident about my choice. Just worried about having the time to really take care of myself after I work six days a week at a very very very stressful job Anyway thats a little about me really love the forum here and lots of great advice and support.
  13. Carrie, Kat Good luck to both of you on your sleeve journey. I am 14 months out, and this is the best thing I ever have done for my health. I got off of both my BP medications, both my cholesterol medications, my CPAP machine for sleep apnea, and got rid of metabolic syndrome (pre-diabetes). I went from a 26W to a 10 or 12 petite. I feel wonderful. Sharon

When the band works TOO well...

The band fills don't 'hurt' so much as they feel gross. My first one I didn't feel. My 2nd onwards (I'm at 7 so far in the 10 months since I've had my band...) feels... blech. Like someone has a needle stuck in a rubber thing under your skin. BLECH! But so great and quick and worth it - those itty bitty fills make all the difference as you creep slowly and beautifully towards the green zone. Then? Goodbye weight!
  15. I was off 10 days. Flew from Canada to Mexico on a Saturday. Surgery that day. Left Mexico for San Diego on the Tuesday. Back to canada the Friday. Back to work the Wednesday for full days. I work at a desk job so was more than fine to return at that point. I kept my surgery a secret so just took vacation days. If I was telling others and was able to get approved medical leave I may have taken longer just to relax, but by 10 days I was going stir crazy as it was.
  16. I did it ! I'm finally under 200 lbs. This morning I weighed 199.8 ! Woo Hoo for me. I have not been under 200 in over 10 years. I LOVE MY SLEEVE! :cheer2: Now off to work I go, to spread the good news. LOL I'm so lucky to have a group of ladies at work that have supported me. And I had to take a picture of it on the scale and send it to my daughter and husband this morning. LOL I'm lovin this day.

14 months out - Just a quick update.

So I just scheduled my first consultation for an arm lift, woo hoo! I have no idea what they cost and I am not traveling out of the country for it, so I will probably have to save for a good while, but at least I will know whether I am a good candidate and the price. My arms are the only part of me that needs some "professional" help, in my opinion. I have a bit of an issue with my upper thighs, but it is something that only I notice and not noticeable to others, even in shorts. I would love a bigger chest, but I am not willing to pay for it, haha. Luckily, my chest has only gotten smaller, but I don't have any issues with extra skin in that area. Considering I am between an A and B cup (yes, you read that right, a 39-year old that could wear a training bra, LoL) I don't think I have to worry about extra skin even if I lose another 10 pounds.

    Protein Bars

most of the protein bars have so many calories and carbs, I hate to waste my calories and carbs like that. can you bring some individual string cheese sticks with you? I have started taking a small cooler everywhere with me. I always have extra H2O, low fat dressing and a small snack. I agree that is way too long between meals. I have also started buying Seapoint dry roasted edamame ( nutty treat), a small hand full is 130 calories, 10 carbs, 14 grams of protein. I brought them to the movies the last time we went. my husband has popcorn and it is hard to resist but this helped! some of this brand has dried fruit too, so tasty & I love that I get some protein!!

  20. Doctors speak in generalities based on statistics of large populations. But YOU speak for YOU. Your individual strengths and desires determine the amount of weight you'll lose. Don't worry, I need to lose 210+ lbs to get to a healthy BMI, so I'm taking the journey right along with you. 207 for me. That's too big a number to focus on. I just focus on the next 10lbs. When I lose that, the next 10. My current goal is to lose 10 more by August. After that I'd like to be at 100lb+ by my 1 year anniversary.

    Looking for support

Surgery complete! It went well, My surgery was at 10:00, I was in the car to go home at 2:00. I was very groggy, and slept most of yesterday. I am breastfeeding, so I have decided to not take any pain medication (tylenol if it comes down to that), so far so good! A little sore, but certainly nothing like recovering from a c-section. Thanks for checking in on me! Jenn ps I was talking with a women waiting to get a fill (she got compelety de-filled to go to Disney) - she lost 130 lbs in a year! With a 4 and 5 year old!

    Spouse supporting a bandster

You say you lack the energy to be an exercise partner. I know personally the one thing I would love to have more than anything is a walking partner! Walking is good exercise, you should not walk so fast that you can't carry on a conversation so it's a great social time and it costs nothing to do...in these financial times, something free that's good is not to be sniffed at! Okay, you say, but I don't think I can do that. Well, tell her you will walk with her until you feel that must turn around. Every time you go out, try to walk a little further. You will benefit from this AND SO WILL SHE. You will get stronger, and she will feel that you are making a big effort for her and that should inspire her, too! Do you cook at all? You can cook simple meals and surprise her and provide meals that are within "the plan" and maybe even provide some leftovers that can then provide a healthy lunch the next day. Example? Grill chicken, steak or lean pork OR FISH. There is a flat thingie with small holes to put fish on on top of the grill grid. Spray it with PAM so the fish doesn't stick. Grill vegetables! Some fruits even taste better grilled because it intensifies the flavor! Experiment. A little leftover steak can be added to salad greens with some sauteed mushrooms and low fat or fat free salad dressing. Instant lunch. Support isn't complicated. Reward her with a surprise now and then. There's a thread here somewhere about rewarding yourself. I suggested a nice (though certainly not ostentatious) piece of jewelry at 50 pounds. Maybe a silver (or gold, if you can afford it) charm bracelet with just one charm on it. Then add to it every 5 or 10 pounds. Silver would make more frequent charms more affordable. And what a nice surprise to have you pick these out for her! Love is the best support of all, my friend!
  23. Hello everyone...I was banded on January 20, 2010 and I am down 26 lbs. since surgery (46 lbs. since Jan. 6th). I truly feel better than I have in a very long time. I went to see my PCP about 5 weeks ago and he told me that my cholesterol was nearing normal levels and blood sugar was in check...but still had some more work to do and wants to re-check in mid April. I am officially into my old "skinny" close and will need to invest in smaller clothes the smaller I get...Glad to have this problem. I went from a 42 waist to a 36 waist (comfortably...without sucking in the gut to button my pants). I have inspired many people at work and have had many compliments on my commitment and dedication to my goals. I had one of my co-workers ask me to write down what I have been eating on a daily basis because her boyfriend is the size I use to be and is wanting to lose weight too...I gladly wrote it down for her. Of all the things that I have experienced, the only thing that aggrevates me is the fact that I have an enormous amount of energy and seem to be sleeping less. I usually go to sleep around 10:00pm and I wake up around 4 am...wide awake and I don't have to be at work until 7 pm. I guess I am getting better sleep because I might not have the sleep apnea like I use to (can't tell because I am asleep and can't tell if I still snore like I use to). I decided to begin my gym membership again and do morning workouts to try to burn this extra energy that I have been expereincing. I have only had one stuck episode since beginning my journey...and it totally caught me off guard. I was eating some eggs and sausage and I guess I just didn't chew a piece of sausage enough...STUCK!! It came up quick and fast but took about 3 good heaves before it just stopped. For a split second, I just went back to my old ways of chewing and forgot to chew very well...Lesson Learned. I have NOT had any fills and really don't see a need to unless I see myself not losing weight or see myself losing control with my eating habits...but I just don't see that happening but you never know. I hope everyone else is having the success I have been experiencing....good luck to everyone!!
  24. I was banded 1/4/10, and have lost 30 lbs so far (10 weeks out). I was hoping for more by this time, but that's what I've got. I haven't lost a pound in the last two weeks, kind of a bummer. Hoping the scale will drop a few for me soon!!
  25. I was banded on 1/25 and am down 25 since that day. I seem to lose about 1.2 a week and though I'd love to drop 10 a month, I'm satisfied with 1/week. I admit, I havent' started exercising yet. I was filled to 5cc in a standard band the day of surgery and never felt any restrictions or fullness. I had 1cc put in 2 days ago and though I have no problem with my salad/fish/yogurt/veggies, I do feel some restrictions. I have figured out that water is so key in this battle. I try to remind myself that it took years to put on and so a year to get off the 88 pounds is very reasonable. 1 day at a time, 1 bite at a time, trying to remember..it's only food. I am in control, not it!
