Still can't get my size right!

I should probably get to the store and buy some new clothes, now that I'm down 60 pounds, but it's such a daunting task going through "is this going to fit me? what about in a few weeks? should I just save my money?" Clothes shopping while losing weight is hard!

Total weight loss in one year

Hi Flower, With proper restriction, the expected average weight loss is 1 to 2 lbs a week, so this would equate to 50-100 lbs in a year. It really depends on how much you have to lose and how compliant you are. I lost 120 my first year, but I worked really hard and had a very high BMI of 53.9 when I started. Babs in TX 334/180 -154

    Odd sense of calm/confidence?

You, my friend, have an AWESOME attitude!! I feel like we have such good material now. Sites like this, Facebook, Support Groups and just being around LIKE MINDED PEOPLE!! I know of 3 people who had their WLS 20 or more years ago. One gained every bit of weight they had lost back plus more, One has gained a lot of her weight back and my niece hasn't gained any weight but eats crazy Like food rituals etc. One has had to have multiple Iron infusions and was allergic to some they used and almost lost her life. @ of these people had the same DR for their stomach stapling. Notice I didn't say RNY back then it was done this way and without any support from their Dr. One went back and had gained 20#'s back and her Surgeon told her that she was a disgrace to his program. They were told that if they needed support that there was a group but no address etc. Now the Surgeon's have perfected the WLS's. Like I said we are so fortunate to have our WLS in this day and age. They can do so much more with their technique's now. I hear people say all the time I just wish I'd had my WLS years ago. You won't hear me say this, I'm thankful for the knowledge and perfection they have aquired.

    Odd sense of calm/confidence?

Thank you for your replies. I was also wondering how common it is for people in my/our position to have diagnosed anxiety issues. Over the years the heavier I got the worse my social and general anxiety got. I saw a doctor about it and he wanted me on medication but I refused because I didn't want to become dependent on it or dampen myself as I've heard those medications can do. So what ended up happening is I became a shut in. I damn near have a panic attack doing regular things like going to the grocery store, meeting anyone new, or even making necessary calls for work to people. Is this common in obese/overweight people? I just wanna gauge how much of this anxiety may go away once I get to a healthier weight and lifestyle. Also, can someone reiterate to me how awesome it is to fit in a booth at a restaurant, in a seat on a plan without a seatbelt extension, and on a rollercoaster without feeling super embarrassed? Etc. For those who have already gone through the process, what little things like that have meant the most to you? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    NO weight loss! Under eating?

I'm only 6 weeks post op but i'm averaging 1300 calories a day and losing over 4 pounds per week. I track my food on thedailyplate.com On there you can put in your height, weight and activity level and then choose how much you want to lose per week. I put 3.5 and it says I can consume 1436 calories per day. 1400 is alittle hard for me to reach but 1300 has been pretty do-able. Hope that helps!!

    NO weight loss! Under eating?

First of all - HI! I'm from Bakersfield, too! Why aren't we friends?!? LOL! Could be that you're undereating...how many calories are you getting? I'd suggest upping your calories 200 to see if that helps give you fuel. It's weird to think that we have to eat MORE to lose weight, but if you're working out as hard core as you say you are, your body probably isn't getting enough fuel to burn and is holding on to what it's got. I know that I have to play around with my calories when I start seeing a stall...in the beginning, I was proud of myself for eating less than 1,000 calories a day, but soon found the scale at a plateau. Once I jumped to 1,300-1,400 calories per day, voila!

    Telling A Loved One

I've had my band since 24 May 2010; lost 71 lbs. in 10 mos. It was the easiest weight loss I've done (& I've done them all) and KEEPING IT OFF IS THE EASIEST THING EVER!!! My lapband is the ABSOLUTE BEST thing ever ~ I swear by it!!! It is "an insurance policy" to be able to take/keep the weight off, but you still have to do your part. The first few months after you start ARE weird but, that's because you're learning a whole new way to eat and think about food. If your friends will support what you are doing, it will be MUCH easier. If you can find a weight loss surgery (esp. lapband) support group (yes, there are some ~ ask your lapband clinic), that might help, too. If you make sure the way you think/act about your band stays positive, there shouldn't be anything to worry about. It's a good thing that you want to lose your weight by the time your brother moves back from Japan. That will help you with what you're doing (yes, you should be able to lose at least quite a bit, if not all, of it). Once your brother sees you, you won't have to say anything! But, when you tell him about it, he should feel good that you're doing something so positive for yourself (seeing the results should convince him). By the time he does get back, the "lapband life" will be totally normal for you! The most important thing for you to remember is that if you have a question about anything concerning your band, ask the clinic that's doing it for you!!! That's their purpose in life! I haven't had any problems with my band that couldn't be "fixed" (remember to talk to your clinic and do what they tell you). Just BE READY FOR YOUR LIFE TO CHANGE (not in a bad way, just change) with your band. If the clinic you go to offers counseling to help you know what's going on and how to handle it (maybe how to tell others, too), USE IT!!!! If other people have trouble understanding/dealing with your lapband, that's their problem. Do not allow anyone (even your brother) to affect what is right FOR YOU!!! (may take some time/work to adopt that attitude but, it will help you succeed with this ~ I promise). GOOD LUCK!!!!!

    Need Advice

It will come off. Just give your body time to heal from the surgery and focus on healing up, getting well and staying hydrated and getting Protein. I assure you it is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE not to lose weight b/c your calories are so restricted. Good Luck!

    Looking for a buddy

Hello, We are similar in a lot of ways . I am 36 years old and I had my surgery a month after you on 4/14/2015. My goal is to also lose between 130 and 140 pounds . It has been just about two months and I have lost about 43 pounds . I had a stall that lasted two weeks and it drove me crazy!! Although losing that much weight in such a short time is great but I was so worried that I wouldn't lose any more . But thank goodness the stall has passed . I live in California and have a 16 year old daughter and am divorced . I am a stay at home mom and would love to have a weight loss buddy. If you are interested it would be great to hear from you. Stephanie

    Help

Could it be stress- related weight gain. I've been reading whatever I can find on cortesol and gherim and they are powerful harmones that affect weight (esp. belly fat). It's probably temporary due to the surgery date and being anxious. Deep breathe, light a candle and empty your mind of your worries and fears, and quiet down your inner voice with thoughts of your future and beautiful new self! Cortsol affects us whether the stress is happy (the Christmas holidays, for example) or worrisome. Niw, if I can take my own advice! My date is a week from Thurs. on the 12th. Psyched!
  15. I have been morbidly obese since my teenage years. I have lost about 100 pounds 3 different times before i started this process. It seems that once i get to 100, I lose steam and get frustrated and within a year to 18 months I am back where I started if not heavier. The band for me is both a tool to help with weight los but it is also an insurance policy that will help keep me from regaining weight in the long run.
  16. hello folks! my husband and i will be traveling to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia soon to meet the baby girl we are adopting. my doctor and i are considering unfilling my band for the trip for a couple of reasons...1.) the high possibility of getting sick and throwing up, which could cause a slip. 2.) medical professionals there have no idea what to do with the band, so if i were to having problems, i'd be out of luck with getting help. has anyone else done this while traveling? does the hunger come of fast? i have 6 cc in a 10 cc band and have lost just over 80 lbs. i'm scared of gaining weight, but near as scared as what could happen in Ethiopia with my band if i got sick. any advice is greatly appreciated!

    Need help! Ive blown it!

At pretty much exactly 4 months my weight loss suddenly stopped to. After a one month stall I dropped 10 lbs pretty fast.
  18. Sure there is, but plateaus happen. Use the time to make sure you are still doing everything right, portion control, food logging, counting calories, moderate exercise, talk to your NUT. Then, if you find an area you need to correct, correct it. If not start looking at other measures of success like are you losing inches. For me, I haven't moved the scale for two weeks, but my pants are looser. Believe me, I know it is frustrating. I am at the 250 mark, I have been here one other time on WW, and my body just doesn't go below this weight without a fight. You can force it, by extreme exercise or extremely restricting your calories, but those aren't long term answers. If you are doing what you are supposed to be doing, then the weight will come off eventually.

    Life 4 years Out

thanks for this update - what has your weight history been like during the 4 years, or rather, during year 2 & 3? Sounds like you are doing great! There is controversy about whether our pouch stretches or not - some say it does, some say it doesn't - and some say that it depends on where it was originaly cut. How do you feel about this? I dont know your age, but could you tell me if the surgery/weight loss has effected your periods - you can private message me that if you want. What about your hair? I had a terrible time (still) with my hair. Thank you!!
  20. my band was too tight for over 2 years and not only did I not lose, I gained back all the weight I had lost plus two lbs... talk about frustrating. I was told that if you are too tight, you generally (or i did anyway) eat foods that are easy to swallow and perhaps not as 'healthy' as we need. because I wasn't eating 3 small healthy meals, I was hungry all the time and snacked WAY too much. track what you eat and talk with your doctor. it is extremely possible that you are too full. Don't avoid the doctor... that was a mistake I made and it cost me 2 years that I could have been losing. Hang in there!
  21. Mommy, i'm trying to find some one sleeved not too far out like you, i was sleeved 12 days ago and i lost 9 lbs the first week, then gained three back and have lost one since, and i have stayed the same for several days, its hard to believe that the weight is not falling off since I'm not eating, just liquids which incl: v8, fruit juices and protien drinks. everyone one else i read about seems to lose so much the first couple weeks, how did you do and do you thing i am losing slow? thanks, vicki

    Kinda Personal Question

I would say taking the first step with WLS is great. What is also important is to work on your body and mind as well so when the weight comes off you will be able to adjust your thought process as well. II must admit at first your mind is the hardest thing to adjust to this new life style and having the ability to talk with someone does help.

    let's talk about doubts, pre-ops!

I am the same as you to a point. I started considering the surgery in 2011. But was convinced I could do it alone. I gained and lost the same 40-50 pounds all through 2011-2012 and in 2013 I hit my all time high of 350. Then my feet and knees started hurting so bad exercise is all but impossible. I have slight fears. I am perfectly healthy except my weight. What if the surgery causes me to be unhealthy. What if I was going to live a longer life fat than if I developed a complications. But all in all I am sure of my dcision because, my daughter is only 3 years old. I spent all summer watching her play instead of playing with her. She loves rides and I cannot fit on them to go with her. SHe loves Water parks but I exceed the weight limit for the water slides. If she were to get hurt or be in danger I could not get to her in a tinley manner. I know I want this to improve our lives together.
  24. Hi, my surgery was 2 months ago on April 3rd. I had gastric bypass rny and since surgery, I've lost 25lbs. It seems kinda measly to me. Especially, for it to be rny. I'm seeing ppl with the sleeve or lapband losing more. I thought the weight comes off quicker with the bypass? Oh well, just so long as it comes off. I definitely feel so much better! How about you guys?
