Dumping Vs. Eating Too Fast
DLCoggin replied to tstevens28's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
About 2/3 of folks who experience dumping get it 15 to 30 minutes following consumption of some foods - usually high in sugar or fat. The other 1/3 don't experience the symptoms of dumping for one to three hours or more following eating. So I'd say it may well be dumping. I had my first experience with dumping about seven months out and after eating some red grapes - which led me to believe it was in response to the sugar, but I did not have any vomiting. Light headedness, dizzyness, "the shakes", diarrhea, even fainting (rare) - are all possible symptoms of dumping. How often has it happened and what food(s) brought it on? -
Oh yeah.... I'm 6 months post op and that happened to me last week !!! The pain is not a "I'm too full pain" it is a pain like someone punched you in the stomach - it really hurts like hell !!!! Yep.... I learned my lesson.

Liquid Diet - one week or one month?
purplecatlover posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I see many people on the site that are on a liquid diet for 1 week. My doc says 1 MONTH and I am struggling already. Is it safe to go on to puree after 1 or 2 weeks? Thank you bunches! -
I was warned about this being a possible side effect on my 1st NUT appointment. With only being 3 weeks post-op - I wouldn't be eating anything like that anyway. Your body is telling you that you shouldn't be eating sugar! Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App

How to Vortex them First things you have to get a Vortex https://www.amazon.com/LUTANI-BBQ-Kettle-Grills-26-75/dp/B07BP7JFWK/ref=sr_1_4?crid=GUJUNI9LG6TT&keywords=vortex+grill+accessory&qid=1584617398&sprefix=Vortex+grill%2Caps%2C166&sr=8-4 Step one We prefer only wings but get you chicken wings and legs. RInse off and put in bucket, Now the key to this is the brine. To brine use 1/3 cup of salt, 1/3 cup of red hot. Use chicken stock or base. I prefer the chicken base paste. Also on amazon. Add water to cover wings and refrigerate for 12 hours. I do this before i go to bed then they are ready the next day. Step two Remove wings and lightly rinse. Put in zip lock bag - Add wing sauce, butter and pepper and shake it all up. Store for 3 hours or more flipping bag every so often. Step three. Get your grill rocking with the vortex in the middle. The ones i did yesterday the vortex had the grill at 600 degrees Hot as Hell in there. I found it easier to remove the grate and arrange them around the outside off the grill. We wanted a little smoke flavor so i added a chunk of apple wood to the middle of the grate. Put grate back on grill. Close lid. You have to keep the lid closed the heat is going to roll around convection style with the vortex in the middle of the grill. Took about 30 minutes and I did rotate them at 15 min. Skin was perfect, moist from the brine, and perfect taste. On the side we did have a variety of hot sauces, Ranch and blue cheese - Not a wing in site 15 minutes later

Hi Wild Blu! Ive been having nighttime reflux off and on since December - my last fill. Everytime I think that its time to get a slight unfill, the reflux stops. Because I was worried about the reflux being due to a slipped band, I asked for a barium swallow to check on the position. Everything checked out ok. Soon afterwards the reflux was much better. Probably due to a number of things... prilosec qd and no eating after 8pm. For the past week this reflux junk has kicked up again. I even called my pcp today to get a script for something stronger then prilosec. (shrugs shoulders) I dont know! Have you read our "sticky" thread about reflux? Good luck - and let me know what happens.

Each Day Gets Better !!!
newlife326 replied to mizpk83's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lucked up actuality. I am a teacher and I scheduled my surgery a week before Spring Break just so I could maximize my recovery time! -
I am taking three weeks off. Because I can. LOL, yes I can because I have been at the same place for 30 years and have over 1600 sick hours available. And with our stupid new PTO system, I can't use them unless/until I am out more than five days. So, yeah, because I can.

I'm sort of like Chancie. It's kind of funny that in the first 3 months I never "slimed" or threw up, but I've probably done one or the other every 1.5 weeks since then. My full signal is usually my nose running, but I sometimes like the taste so much I take another bite, chew it and spit it out just to taste it again (I know gross). I've gotten pretty good at it that no one even notices.

Drinking water after operation
sassypants replied to joydenstar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After the op your taste buds change I am one of the people who went sensitive to salt to everything is super sweet! Something they don’t tell you about but my doc giggled at when asking me if it happened yet. Your mouth feels like crap everything taste like crap it’s a combination of the op meds and the ketoses thing going on. No amount of brushing my teeth and mouth wash felt like it made a difference so after 2 weeks of mouth crap I couldn’t take it any more and took a mouthful of cold coke swilled it around and spat it out. The bubbles just felt like they were waking up my mouth like a shock of oh hello this is not same old same old crap hello mouth!! It goes away but it is ugh at the time. -
Really depends on your job. I felt I could return in a week.

2 questions: Laughing and Steri-strips
MistyD65 replied to charlie4171's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I haven't noticed pain when laughing. But early this morning I woke up and was laying on my stomach, then raised up my right side a bit(where the port is) and coughed. That made my scar hurt more than it has since the first week. And it continued to hurt for a while, esp when I was getting out of bed a few hours later. It's back to normal now, thank goodness. I still have a bit of the synthetic scab on some of the scars and my surgeon removed the steristrips from my port scar last Friday. Those steristrips are tenancious little buggers! The skin under them is now pretty red and itchy. The itchiest though is right around the margins of where the strips were. But nothing like it was about 5 days after surgery. Oi! I read this hint about removing left-over adhesive...use a pencil eraser, very gently over the adhesive. Works great! -
I am so happy for you. Should be getting my surgery date in the next few weeks for October also. This is so exciting

I also have had some irrartation in the band area By my breast bone. I went in for the scope and they said i had a mild irratation and they gave me a med to take for 3 weeks and than they put me on prilosec otc SO far that seems to have helped I do have days that it is so bad I so not want to eat anything but yogert You are right about everyone saying to call the doc I woudl say the same thing but I just told you what I went thru everyone is different. (and I do not want to get yelled at again for not saying call teh doc) I put up with the burning pain thing for like 3 months before I said I can not handle it any longer and what helped I could have went to the store and bought But they do say that can also be a sign of slippage and/or erosion Good luck

I'm a little over 3 weeks post op today and think I might have overdone it. I did tons of yard work and I know I shouldn't have, but I haven't been sore and I thougt it would be okay. I should have known I was still healing! Tonight when I got in, I noticed that my port site was really swollen and sore. Also, I can feel my port perfectly right beneath my skin. I don't remember ever feeling it this close to the skin before. I'm sure I'm just swollen from the activity and that my port hasn't moved or anything, but I'm a worrier! I don't feel nauseated and I have eaten and all is fine there. From what I have read, everyone that has "messed" something up has had severe pain or nausea. I wouldn't call my pain severe at all. Anyone had this happen after lifting, bending, etc?

Awake way to go I'm still waiting to go home from surgery last week. ..

super genius, My late father was the same way, but my forcefulness and hard assness NEVER phased him, he would have sat there in traffic for a week... Your father made a big step imo, even though he is terribly, terribly wrong, but for him to admit and not do it if he was/is that type of person is impressive to me. It's him not you, always remember that and forgive... Forgiveness is a choice. My apologies for the hijack but this hit home with me...

:thumbup:I just talked to the surgeon's office and they gave me an early appoinment so that I might be able to have the surgery before the first of the year. My out-of-pocket doubles on the 1st of January, from $1800 to $3200. So I was really worried. I might also be able to skip the seminar, save me a three hour trip. Anyway, it is on the 13th. Wish me luck!:smile2:

6 days out - NO real pain
Lynnlovesthebeach replied to MikeRNY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never had any pain either. They gave me pain meds in the hospital but I never took any pain meds once I got home. I followed the guidelines they gave me and have had no issues. I did have the “foamy” stuff come up a couple of times in the early stages when restarting solid food due to either eating too fast or too much but otherwise no vomiting or nausea. It doesn’t take too many times of doing that to figure out your bodies cues to slow down! I consider myself to be having a textbook journey and am grateful. I don’t get stressed out if I have a day where I don’t get my protein in. I just do better the next day! I did get hunger back after 4 weeks but it doesn’t take much to make it go away. I used to live on sugar, now I have no desire for sweets or junk food. Now I just look at junk food and think to myself, that’s what got me to the bariatric program in the first place! I’m doing the best I can and so far it’s working. I’m no longer Pre-diabetic and no longer take taking BP meds. Good luck with your journey. It’s ok to being doing great! Your doctor will be proud of you! -
Hi you all. I had my surgery last week Tuesday 3/25. I had a large hiatle (not sure of spelling) hernia. My doc said half my stomach was in my chest. I went for leak test and dye got stuck. It did go down next day.I also had Fluid in my lungs. I was in hospital for 4 days. My doc wanted 5 but I begged him to let me go home. I am better today but had to have more fluid put in me yesterday through Iv at doc office. To be honest I regretted the surgery for the first few days. I cant wait to get to next stage in diet because am so sick of shakes now. I am sorry if I sound ungrateful or negative. I am sure I will be OK and my funk will change.

Have you made any other changes with the way you treat your body besides dietary changes? Because I think you have to find a way to love and appreciate your body and weight loss alone might not be the key for you. When you look in the mirror you're still seeing your low body image and not what's really there. I'm definitely still fat (you're really not but that's not the point) but when I look in the mirror or think about my body now, that's not my focus at all. For me, I made some other changes in the way I treat my body that made a difference in how I feel and how I see myself. I work out a lot more now, six days a week. And not just to speed weight loss but to make my body stronger and up endurance. And my body is stronger! I can dance for a long time and run and jump. My God I even tried to twerk the other day (in the privacy of my own home, and I fell over anyway but I did try). My legs have gotten bigger and my gut still flops about. I set up my trampoline in front of the mirror and let my gut hang free the other day. At first it was uncomfortable looking, then funny, then I was proud to see it fly! The point is I am really liking what my body does for me and I love being able to feel the changes. Another way to learn to appreciate the body is through fashion and dressing it up. Experimenting more with makeup, shoes, clothes, accessories, hair. The body can really make a fashion statement and the smaller we get the more access we have to great, inexpensive stuff that can really make us into walking works of art. I am not a fashion maven and you may already be, but that's another angle. I love the way my legs look and I wear hot pants and dresses because I just like looking at them so much (sorry if vain). My legs are still big especially since they're more muscular and I could look at my thigh jiggle "fat" or I could love the way I look in tights. I can choose the latter. ANOTHER avenue for increased body appreciation: taking care of all those niggling health problems and concerns that maybe got short shrift when you were bigger. It's all about taking care of yourself, emphasis on "care". Self-care is something so many big people neglect and often because we're told our bodies are wrong and worthless and doctors often focus on the fat. I'm not arguing whether fat is healthy or not, but you're in a better position to get quality healthcare once you lose weight and you've lost a heckuva lot. The better you feel health-wise, whether you had serious illnesses or were generally ok, the more you can appreciate your body. This can be head to toe. Migraines been bothering you, allergies, old injuries, teeth need a checkup, is it time for reading glasses and what's with that pop in the right knee? Whatever it is give it some proper attention.

I was banded 8/05 and I still regret the day it was done. I have been miserable the entire time. I wanted this to work, but for me, it hasn't. I lost about 60 lbs and haved gained about 10 lbs back. I can't stand to have a fill because it causes me so much agony. I have to have my fill drained. I vomit continuously from eating broth and Jello and I don't think this is right. I think that I may just be a person that is not a good candidate. I understand that this is a life altering thing, but I eat more junk now than before because I can't get the good stuff to go down. I'm tired of hurting. I am happy for all of the success stories, but it makes me sad that my entire experience with the band has been horrible. I don't think that it is right to have to hurt everytime you try to eat something or have to run to the restroom to vomit after every bite. This is not healthy!! Also, I'm not particularly in love with my doctor because he tries to make me feel like I am the enemy instead of trying to understand why I feel the way I do. I have had the fluoroscope twice, but nothing really shows up. Regardless of what they say, I think something is wrong. I am waiting now to get approval from my insurance company. They paid 100% to have it done and now I hope they will do the same to have the reversal. I have been successful in the past with weight loss. After this reversal, I am looking forward to doing what I should have done at first - exercise, drink water and three healthy squares a day. If anyone else feels this way, please respond!

It could be from the lack of food and calories..I expereinced the dizziness after the first week of being on clear liquids , it went away during the 2nd week of liquids.
