  1. I ate a lot of favorites two weeks prior to surgery, but also knew that I had to drop some lbs. I was told that my doctor would be very displeased if I gained, and he is no bul!$. It was a balancing act to enjoy some things while not going crazy. Food had such control over my life that I couldn't reconcile limiting access to it. At the same time I was giving myself some tough love going through with the surgery. It was a leap of faith. You are the only one putting things in your mouth. That doesn't mean to be forever perfect, just make much better choices most of the time. I'll be going into my 6 th week and it is ok. I have yet to shed a single tear over food. What is challenging is working on the mental and emotional aspects of an addiction to food. I'm learning and growing and everything will be alright. It will be for you, too as you develop and work towards targets and goals. Be good to yourself in the process by thinking about what you are eating and why. For me, the further away from simple carbs I got, the easier the process became. Carbs are my crack.
  2. I know stalls are common, but I'm just over a week into my first and quietly weeping in a corner. I actually gained weight the last two days, which is super sucky and not at all justified based on what I've been eating!! Which brings me to my question. Do you change your eating to break the stall, or stay the course and toss the scale in the garbage? Is a stall indicative of a problem, or is it just a normal bump in the road? I'm sure it CAN BE indicative of a problem, but is it always? After gaining yesterday and today, I found myself being hypercritical of everything I put in my mouth. Yesterday I was counting calories like it was my job, leaving me horrified when I saw I was at 1,500. That sounds like a lot, but I've been following the nutrition guidelines and losing weight like a champ until now. Today I tried to eat less, but I spent the whole day preoccupied by food and seriously hungry. Not head hungry. Actual, physical hunger. Then I would eat something, which meant I ate more times than I normally do today, and probably didn't change my calorie intake much at all. * sob * Thoughts??
  3. same date, and 11 days later I actually gained 1 lb. I'm sure it's normal. I'm going to increase my calorie intake and start exercising this week. I'm sure that will trigger more loss
  4. I agree with other posters that you should quit smoking immediately. Not only is smoking going to increase your risk of having the complications mentioned, but it is going to hinder your body's ability to heal quickly and correctly. I would also start walking at least 30 minutes per day now, and drinking tons of water. You want to build up lung capacity, and start getting into shape. I was already working out 6-8X per week before surgery, and everything was super easy for me. I could have returned to work after 2 days. I smoked for 10 years, and I understand how stress makes you grab for that cigarette. Don't do it though. You are doing this for your health, so why not make a complete change starting tomorrow? You can do this, and will be better off for it. Good luck to you.
  5. Same for me as above poster. Mine was gradual. I will be 5 months next week and I feel like I can eat more than I could a month ago. I suspect in another month you will see a difference.

    No energy

Fatigue was a real issue for me through the first 2 months post-op. I took six weeks off from work, and when I did go back, I was still fighting the fatigue for a few more weeks. It isn't an issue so much for me now (3 months post-op yesterday), so it will get better. Good luck!

    Driving

I didn't take any pain meds during my 2-week recovery. I was cleared to drive after my recovery though. Drove me crazy...(see what I did there?)

    4 days post op

The best advice I can give is time. I had surgery a week ago Tuesday and the sore throats will go away eventually. Probably you won't even notice when it does!

    Well Crap..

Well Crap.. yes..I hadn't realized that its been well over a year since my last visit here.. and it seems that I should have been visiting a whole lot more often.. because not only did I fall off the wagon - but I rolled into a raveen that lead to a cliff - and here I am hanging by a mere branch.. with all 340lbs of me.. I can blame no one except myself for the weight gain.. I've gained a total of 43.3 lbs.. I've been completely out of control - and of course recently (within the last 2-3 weeks I've been trying to get back to basics.. I've forgotton how to eat, how to control my poritons, I've forgotten good food choices, and definitely "forgot" the importance of daily exercise/activity - so here I am - trying my best to un-do all that I've done within the last year or so.. Take care my friends.. Just me - Bea
  10. After 3 weeks should my stomach (abdominals) still be so sore? It still hurts to get up from chair, roll over or get out of bed, etc. I'm not doing any heavy work, but have been walking a couple of miles a day or more. I was very bruised (entire stomach) after surgery, can this possibly be the cause. Any info is appreciated.

How do you end a stall?

stalls are common. I just stayed the course and they eventually broke. I don't want to be critical of your 1500-cal-a-day routine because I obviously am not familiar with your particular situation, but I eat that many calories now - two years into maintenance. I don't think I went over 1000 until I was around a year post-op.

    Day 2 of restriction!

I am two weeks out from surgery and I have been unbelievably hungry. When I went for my check up yesterday the surgeon decided to go ahead and try and give me a 4cc fill. It could all be in my head but I think there is a definite difference. I had half of a cheese enchilada for lunch with a couple of bites (small ones) of rice and beans and I felt so full...almost as though I had eaten a giant meal instead of only a little more than I am supposed to. It felt very different from the last week of being completely starving and never feeling full.
  13. I went for my 4th week check up..im actually at 25 days. I weigh 284.9 sw was 316. Today was awful. Ive been getting really dizzy when i stand up. So i asked my dr. If i should stop taking my bp meds. He said no and sent me for labs.....I PASSED OUT. Full blown unconscious. My hands/ fingers contracted and i couldn't use them for 15_20 min. They gave me oj and told me my bp was 90/60 very low for me..so once i was better my dr told me to stop taking the bp meds all together. Me hubby came and took me to the ER. I had compcompletely normal labs but my bp was 100/60. My point is LISTEN TO YOUR BODIES. When YOU feel changes speak up.

    day 3 blues

day two for me....pain meds almost gone...haven't slept well, haven't yet showered and I too am afraid to do much. Just trying to turn in bed is painful enough to make me nervous about 'undoing' something inside. I had a head cold going into surgery, so I'm still fighting that trying to cough hard though it hurts in attempt to keep my lungs clear. I am really looking forward to having this all at least two weeks behind me, I really loath feeling so incapable and 'hospitalily'

    day 3 blues

I think I'm just really uncomfortable with having to move slow and deliberate and the added discomfort of the bloat, gas and pressure on my diaphragm causing pain in my shoulders. I know this will pass (pardon the pun) and by next week I should be doing very well. Anxious!! I am too getting burned out fast on the protein shakes and yogurt....I think I'm a bit hungry!
  16. search this forum for "3 weeks stall" posts first. You are in good company
  17. I completely understand. I am 8 weeks out and only 27lbs down post op. I got on the scale the other day and had gained two pounds...seriously! I'm so frustrated. I'm working out and eating right..what the heck!

    Heartburn

Sleeved 5/3/18. Heartburn was my biggest problem after surgery. It really scared me. My gastroenterologist told me to take two PPI's a day, the second 30 minutes before dinner. He also told me Gaviscon works well with sleevers. He's right. The Gaviscon got me through the first couple of days while taking two Pantoprazole (Protonix) a day. I took two a day for about a month, maybe 5 weeks. Still taking one a day to be on the safe side. This solved my problem. I hope this helps!
  19. I eat salad...I think I started getting things like grilled chicken salad out at about 6-8 weeks. I eat some chicken first then some salad...tomatoes and cukes...oh and hard boiled eggs sliced up too...then take it home and had 2 more meals out of it...lol.

    Cleaning Day

I think I am up to cleaning house today. I am 6 days post-op and have little pain and little hunger. I crave foods like crazy--right now it's a tuna melt-- but will try to make it through the week on clear liquids, though I started adding a small protein shake in the evening for comfort and protein. I am going to have to get out all my boxed up clothes and see what I have in the next size. I hope my daughter doesn't hate me but I may raid her closet once in awhile and see if anything fits. I am fine with wearing 1 or 2 outfits until I drop a size. I need to start exercising and may enlist my son's help. If he will walk the dog with me at night, I'll walk. Unfortunately, I injured my heel a few eeks ago and it is hard to walk, but I bought some gel insoles that should help. Now I just wonder if I can bend over to get my gym shoes laced! My port site is much less painful when I bend, so I think I can do it. Time to get the house cleaned up so I can enjoy the holiday tomorrow. I might try to go to the movies and fireworks. I think getting out the last 2 days has built up my strength. Remember: That Which Does Not Kill Us Makes Us Stronger!
  21. I'm only 2 months out myself so can't speak from experience, but I want to throw the "it could be muscle gain" hat into the ring. You said yourself that you are doing a lot more walking and so maybe your calves are building up. Also I know you said you weigh yourself daily but I cannot stress enough how bad that is to do. Once a week is plenty, just make it the same time of day (should be first thing before you consume breakfast), and same clothing ideally. There will be single days in anyone's life no matter the circumstances where they weigh a little bit more than the day before, you need to not focus on it. It'll drive you crazy otherwise, I'm sure it's nothing. Sent from my HTC 10 using BariatricPal mobile app
  22. 6 more weeks until the 2nd fill... hope that one makes a difference! Also... I don't remember who posted it, but I made the turkey taco Soup and it's friggin fantastic! I literally eat it EVERY DAY for lunch, and a lot of days for dinner. So easy, so delicious. You should give it a try!!! Not my recipe... I got it from a post on this forum 1 lb ground turkey, browned with 1/2 chopped onion and 1/2 c chopped green pepper (I just got frozen... easy!) Add to crock pot with : -2 cans pinto Beans (drained) -1 can black beans (drained) -1 cup frozen corn (you can leave out if you're worried about the carbs but it's not very much corn in the whole pot) -2 cans of Rotel tomatoes (they're diced with green chilis... the Rotel are actually better than the delmonte diced with chilis if you can get them) -1 package of taco seasoning -1 package of ranch dressing mix. -I only added about 2 cups of Water and 2 cubes of beef bouillon for flavor... but if you want it soupy add more water I put a spoonful of fat free sour cream in my bowl of soup and it's fantastic... even my picky family loves it. and EASY!!!!

    Fresh juicing info requested please

I was not allowed to consume fresh juice until six weeks out. I juice frequently and it's a FANTASTIC way to get all of those wonderful micronutrients from the veggies. The only thing is that I just have to be careful of how much fruit I'm using. I try to stick with kale or other greens, cucumbers, lemons, ginger, celery and just enough apple or orange to make it palatable. And I do enjoy an occasional carrot-apple juice when I'm not trying to be all low carb. I juiced right up until my surgery and I had a fantastic recovery with very little inflammation of my sleeve.. my incision sites healed so quickly I was discharged from the hospital with only one Band-Aid. I don't know, but I think the juicing really helped make my body ready for surgery.

    Citric Question

I'm 4 weeks and bought the outlast mango fruit bars the other day. They felt good going down and they're low calorie.
  25. OK, so I am 3 weeks post op and I think I just experienced my first episode of pain following eating too fast? Or maybe not chewing enough? I had about 1 oz of very soft turkey, which I have been tolerating fine, but I think I wasn't focused enough on my 25-35 chews and going slow. Ouch! I got a lot of pressure and tightness and over-salivating and general discomfort which passed after approximately 20+ minutes. OK - I get it! Good reminder, sleeve!! You are in charge right now, not me!
