  1. I'm 5'2" so I am sensitive to the unfairness of the universe when it comes to shorties and how little we have to weigh to be "thin". I bet you look great right now. I remember when I weighed 160 and I thought I was a fat pig. My high weight was 257 and today I am 222. I also remember 125 and that was fantastic. I guess all my rambling is meant to say that I doubt this is a permanent situation. Based on what I have read here, a 3 month stall is not unusual. Without scaring you, I have read about 6 month stalls. Maybe your body is just comfortable where you are for a bit while it adjusts and then it will start up again. I am sure it took you more than 6 months to get to your high weight. It took me 25 years to get from 125 to 257. I am frustrated that I have spent half my 30 days since surgery in a stall, but I believe I will continue to lose and based on what the folks here have posted, so will you.

Do you do it ? the X word . EXERCISE !

I've only walked for exercise. I started out by parking as far from the front door of my office to force me to walk a little extra. 18 months later, I regularly walk between 4 and 5 miles a day and have even started speed walking and a little jogging. But I've never done weight training.

    Open surgery?

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that. Expect a longer and more painful recovery, but it shouldn't change your weight loss outcome.

    Question for "older" bandsters...

Cheri, I have had nothing but problems with my band for a while now. Because of it I have gained back all the weight I lost. I feel so defeated. I thought I was the only one gaining but after seeing your post makes me wonder how many have regained the weight? I bet ya we are not the only ones.

    Belching Forever?

Gosh, I'm surprised reading your post. I've, once in a while, belched, but because I knew it would relieve some pressure or pain I was experiencing. In my case, I certainly have control over it and would never get away with belching in public! I'm an educator and I can imagine the looks on the faces of students and teachers if I did this. I tend to think your friend had some gastro problems prior to the surgery and that is why this is challenging her. This is definitely not something you should base your decision on unless you have current gastro problems. Actually, no one at my work even knows I have the band! They just give me compliments on losing weight. Good luck with your decision!

    Three week slump

Take your measurements. Every time I stall I lose a lot of inches. It's like your body is rebalancing your weight. It will kick back in. Protein and water. Keep focused!

    Belching Forever?

You're right. She is the only person I'm basing my opinion on. Its hard to tell if its something that exists before that now is just magnified since after surgery. But thought that it was rather alarming and not something I want to live experiencing. Im borderline a candidate (BMI 35.8) and no serious co-morbidess (or not serious enough). I'm 33 and don't have kids. Ive slowly but surely have gained weight for various reasons. Ultimately its been such a battle that I don't want it to continue to depresses me and want to end the battle. Im definitely someone who can eat and dont have a sweet tooth; so thats the benfit (in regards to being a candidate for the band). On the other hand, I'm addicted to carbs! However, like everyone else- I'm on the fence (due to the surgery and long term effects). There doesn't seem to be enough studies on those that have had it for a long time; which is disheartening. Its such a hard decision to make.

  10. Brandy, How do you attach the Weight Loss Ticker to your signature? I can't figure it out!!
  11. My doctor wanted me to do an open ended liquid diet of 500 calories a day. A special mix that you bought at the hospital. 1) It made my throat tingle, 2) it was $200 for 12 days so I stopped. I was losing weight on my own which included protein shakes made with whey Isolate. Anyway in 7.5 months I lost 50 pounds.

    6 Week Follow Up

I am so glad you posted this! This is something I've been wondering about. I've been losing weight really quickly, and I feel a good amount of restriction and I stay full for a good 4 or 5 hours after I have my mushies; plus I started with 2ccs in the band... so I'm wondering if I will have to get a fill or not. It's good to know that you don't absolutely have to. I'll definitely have my doctor look at it, and decide; but maybe I won't have to get a fill this time. Of course, I still have another 3 and a half weeks to determine this, but this post gives me something to consider. Thanks! Also, congrats on your progress, it looks like you're doing really well, that rocks!

    Work Out Routine

I'm looking to revamp my work out routine to maximize results but I don't know how. I know it's best to switch up which muscles you're working out each day you're working out and stuff. I was wondering if anyone could give me like a weekly workout routine example? I think it'd be nice to see what other people do and what works for them. I understand what works for someone else may not work for me but it'd help to give me some ideas. I typically do 30 mins of the elliptical and then most of the weight machines. Thanks! -Erin

    Words of Wisdom??

Good Luck Stormy! But yes, I will be patient and do what I am told! Has anyone who has lost weight not needed plastic surgery? I do not want to have to go there... I keep hearing everyone say that they have too much lose skin. Can that be avoided? Im 25, will my skin have elasticity?

Hello Future- I am sorry you feel shafted. I hope that your wait is not extended by to many days. I guess you can be thankful that you are able to receive surgery and have a chance to loose unwated, unhealthy weight. My doctor is 5 1/2 hours away. I am blessed to have found him and I plan to utilize the travel time by thinking about my menu for the following week, writing in my journal, talking to other lap band friends, etc. Driving that distance to your doctor will probably be the easiest thing you will do in this new journey. This will be an extra expense due to the price of gas and I can justify it as I will not eat near what I previously did. Explain to your boss your situation and perhaps he/she will work with you. Just continue to work towards to being a healthier you. Good Luck!! God Bless, Grammy

  17. Hi there...So I've fallen off the wagon. My weight loss stagnated and I gave up. I lost my grandfather, my aunt and my cousin all within 3 month time frame and I stopped going to appointments because I felt like I wasn't losing weight and I'm still feeling full for 4-6 hours after each meal. I've made some bad eating decision choices and I know why it hasn't been successful. I want to try and get back on, I have it in me, I need to be better. Has anyone else fallen off the wagon? I'm scared to get back on to fail again.

    Career changes

I think having surgery and losing a lot of weight has a many-faceted effect on our lives in terms of changing them and opening doors. Not only do you become much healthier, but taking an entire person or more worth of weight of your body can do wonders for your energy and pain levels. But there's more than that - you get your life and control back. You start seeing yourself as a person who is worth every bit of effort and love you put into yourself. Most people I've seen stop accepting their lives as they settled for them previously, and start actually living and enjoying life. If that means a career change, so be it! I'm going back to school and finishing my degree finally, and I'm absolutely thrilled. Less than two years ago, I was ready to give up and accept my life - however short it would have been without surgery- the way it was, and just wait for death. Now I truly want to live and love my life, and that means finishing my degree and becoming a professional artist and photographer! I hope you have the same wonderful results. I hope every person has a chance to experience such hope and excitement for the future.

    Buddy

I would love a buddy and/or advice. I was banded in August of 2011, and lost 80 pounds in about a year. In October of 2012 I became pregnant with my second child. I gained 40 pounds during my pregnancy, and have been gaining and losing the same 10 pounds for over a year. I am very discouraged, but also determined to get back on track. Starting a two week liquid diet tomorrow to try to shrink my pouch and get back to losing.
  20. this is the most crucial part to make ur surgrey work and for weight loss to work
  21. When I was running into similar problems - not specifically light headedness, but an energy wall - after about an hour in the pool, my RD at the time suggested that a common recommendation for pre workout is something that his relatively high in complex carbohydrate, moderate in protein, and low to moderate in fats. Extra protein ahead of time did not do much by my experimenting, but that bit of extra complex carb did - it allowed me to break through that wall. It seems that with the complex carb, you will get that extra bit of insulin lift an hour or two after consumption, so that helps to fill in the energy gap you get at that time; at least it worked for me. I also didn't find that I needed it on days that I was only doing weight work, even when that lasted 90 min or so, only on swimming days. YMMV. For convenience, I ultimately settled on a small meat and cheese sandwich, with a good quality multigrain bread (or toasted.) That may or may not fit with your needs at two months out (I was about four months out when I was playing with this.) IIRC, my now RD nephew used to use some of the original CLIF bars that had a similar profile for this, so that may be something to look into. But that rough macro profile seemed to be the main trick - more fat or protein didn't do much for me, but the complex carb did (and I was never agonizingly low carb to begin with.) Calorically, it was mostly just a reshuffling of what I was already consuming, just rescheduled. Your plan at this time is somewhat limiting, but maybe some high fiber fruit - berries or the like - as the complex carb may do it, Talk to your RD, as you may get some adjustments to your allowance to accommodate your needs - this would not be unusual for those who are more active than average, as the plans are written with the averages in mind. Good luck, and have fun, but also don't overdo it - it's easy to do, particularly with trainers!

  23. I have some great scale news and want to Celebrate. So, my highest weight ever was 299 lbs. Today, 2 big things happened. I have lost 100 lbs and I have also entered into ONDERLAND!! Funny that the numbers work out that way, but they do! It feels really good to have a 1 as the first digit in my weight! I hope everyone else is doing great, too!!
  24. It could be due to the fact that if you’re not eating much your body may be in starvation mode and so you will gain and not losing any weight. Talk with you Dr about it.
  25. Hi All, I just have to say that I love my lapband. at first i was discouraged because i was not losing fast, but now i think i have finally hit my green zone! I had been disappointed after a few fills and stopped going in. I had stalled out as a result. The last fill was painful and they couldn't find my port, but eventually did. so i wasn't too keen on doing that again. i guess something in my mind thought i should be able to succeed without fully utilizing the tool, but i am back "on the wagon" and went in for a fill. It took a few tries, but they found my port and filled it .5cc more (totall 3.5ccs). I must have been just about to hit the green zone because now I feel like i am losing faster. and it feels great! It is a huge accomplishment for me to finally be under 200lbs. At my heaviest i was 252-254, surgery weight 248 and now i am 198! Can you believe it! There is a 1 at the beginning of my weight, not a 2, a 1! yay! I still have a lot to lose, but i am on my way! So stick with it and don't miss your fill appts. and it will work for you too! My surgery date was 9-5-12 today is 7-15-13
