  1. @@breezy25 Only on my last day in the hospital, I had bad runs .... Had my Leak Test day before, barium meal can cause diarrhoea ..... Then nothing for 10 days. My NUT put me on Benefibre. Didn't work for me. Finally I was advised to try Osmolax (very gentle powder, used for children, and post surgery). This finally worked for me. The combo of Benefibre plus Osmolax. Now, I don't take Osmolax too often. With more textured diet, my bowels are waking up. First 2 weeks post op are fluids only, (if on a strict regime of change/progression to another stage every 2 weeks) With the fluids, there is not much there for the bowels to work. Passing farty gas is good, this means there is no blockage. Good Luck

    Panniculectomy?

@Sherrie ScharbroughI don't have a lot of weight in my upper stomach. Insurance is paying for mine as well. I'm sorry you had such a bad experience! They are doing a mons lift as well. This is kind of an in between surgery as I am not at goal yet but need this skin taken off now. As long as I don't have a terrible experience I will most likely need a revision tummy tuck that will focus more on shaping. Thank you! @Julie nortonThanks! I'm hopibng it only takes me 10 days to feel better! I don't usually do well after surgery @Suaniya Thank you!!
  4. What day did the scale go down after surgery???? Im 6 days out, and diet has been perfect, no cheating. I'm still 10 pounds heavier than when I went into the hospital. I just want to see how long is normal.

    A word of encouragement!

Good post! I was banded on 1/10/08, and within 2 weeks, I lost 17 #. Once I started introducing soft foods to my diet, I have lost only 1 # in 10 days! And that includes adding in my minimal exercise this week. It is is frustrating, because I feel like I have hardly any restriction, and I don't get a fill until the end of February. I need to be happy just maintaning my weight loss until my first fill.

    chest x-ray?

Hehe! Try being infertile and going through all the tests, exams, etc! Sometimes I felt like telling everyone to form a line!!! LOL!!! Seriously had to go back and look again b/c I just didn't pay attention the first time! Sooo funny!! I have my surgeon's appt., ekg and chest x-ray on Friday. Kinda figured the x-ray was just a general check of everything. Does everyone have to have an x-ray? I have asthma too and wonder if maybe that's the reason for it. It'll be interesting to see what pops up. I had bronchitis a few weeks ago and can still feel a slight heaviness in my chest so I'm hoping they don't freak out about it. I'll have to let them know about it so if they see something, then they aren't thinking I am coming down with it. It seems so far away but yet it's getting so close now! Friday's appt then start the 10 day pre-op liquids on the 15th, then surgery the 25th!

    IV fluid weight

I was the same way.. 10 pounds heavier when i left the hospital. it took about a week, but then dropped. Good luck!
  9. I am so very happy all is well now. I was really nervous because my story is almost exactly the same as yours and my surgery is scheduled for April 20th. I have right at 50 pounds to loose (maybe a little more) and am a self pay. Sometimes i am so scared, but mostly I just know I have to get this done so I can live and enjoy my life again. I have very high blood pressure, take two different meds for that, and tons of lower back and knee problems. I am 54 years old and raising 4 grandkids, one is just 19 months old so I need to run around like I am 25 again!!
  10. My gym is starting a biggest loser compitition and at that time I will be 4 weeks post op. It involves a personal trainer for 10 weeks (2 days a week). Right now I walk 30 mins a day and would love to add more. I plan on asking my doctor when I will be able to do something like this, but I wondered when all of you started lifting weights? Thank you for any input!

    Catheter?

Unfortunately I have more experience with a catheter than I would like. In 2009 I had a hysterectomy and the doctor sliced my bladder by accident. I had to have a catheter for two weeks! Then in 2010 I had a bladder suspension. Yep, that went wrong also! The suspension worked too well and I couldn't go at all. Two days after the surgery I was running a fever and in severe pain. I went to ER and they inserted the catheter and I had to have it for five days. When the problem didn't correct itself I had to have surgery again 10 days later. The catheter is uncomfortable but bearable. I think if you do have one in the hospital you will probably either have so much stomach pain you wont even think about it or will be on pain meds and wont care. :-)
  12. I had this procedure 10 plus years ago....(Since I have lost 53 pounds, my hour glass figure is starting to re-emerge ) Deb Circumferential abdominoplasty An circumferential abdominoplasty is an extended abdominoplasty plus a buttock lift. The resulting scar runs all the way around the body, and the operation is also called a Belt Lipectomy or Body Lift. This operation is most appropriate for patients who have undergone massive weight loss.

Congrats! Mine was on June 19, so exactly 30 days before you. The next couple of weeks will fly by! Good luck!
  14. Great job . Sounds like you're doing everything spot on, especially checking in with your NUT. I'm only going on 10 weeks post-op revision to sleeve, and I'm so grateful that I had WLS. Keep us posted! ^^
  15. Hey Everyone, Just needing to get thoughts out there. I'm a revision from band to sleeve. I've had my band removed and hopefully I will have sleeve surgery this summer. I'm going through all the motions for insurance approval. The time between is giving me alot of time to think. I'm excited for the chance to finally lose weight successfully. I'm excited that maybe for the first time in my life I may possibly fit in "normal" size clothes. I'm excited that maybe....just maybe....with the weight loss I can maybe have children. I'm excited for the opportunity to not ache, not tucker out so darn easy, and just feel good for once. And I'm also scared.... I'm scared of failing. I felt like a failure with my lap-band (even though I did have issues with it, even my surgeon said he won't even put them in anymore because of the complications many lap-band patients have), but I can't help but be scared of failure because I've failed so many times with trying to lose weight. I'm nervous too... I've never been "normal". I was a 10 pound baby...so I've been fat since birth. I have no clue what it's like to be what you would call normal. I don't want to say thin because I don't desire to be thin, I just want to be at a healthy weight....and I have no idea how that feels. I was a fat baby, kid, teen, and now adult. I have no real idea what life will be like. I know it will have to be better than how I feel/look now, but the unknown is scary. Thankfully my husband is very supportive, but I get nervous that he won't want to be with me anymore if I do lose alot of weight. He assures me that he doesn't care what size I am because he's in love with me, not my body (smart man...lol) but I can't help but have these fears since we began out relationship with me being the fluffy gal that I am. Sorry for the long post....there's alot rolling around in my brain. I know that surgery is the best option for me, my doctors have been very encouraging, My mind just like to run emotional marathons....too bad my body hasn't. haha. Reading through the forum has always been helpful and encouraging. Anyways...thanks for listening to my ramblings.

  18. I had my surgery on 2/17/2015. I just checked my entries and I started back at the gym on 3/30/2015. I wanted until I spoke with my surgeon about being safe to go to the gym not only because of the physical exertion, but also because it is a hotbed of bacteria. I had a hematoma that had to be kept open and packed, so it took a while. When I was finally healed up enough to not worry about infections, I was told to do exercise as tolerated. I started doing only cardio, stationary bike, treadmill, and elliptical. Then I added light weights and simply moving my body around the core. As long as I didn't feel any pain, I would continue what I was doing or add something new. I have known the people that work in the rec center for about 7 years so I had no problem telling them that I had sleeve surgery. They recommended I start off on the ab machine so that I was using a lighter weight than my body weight. Now I am using the ball with a medicine ball in my hands held infront of my face to ensure proper posture while doing crunches. I don't remember what I started out doing, probably 30 crunches with 3 sets of 10. Now I am up to about 200 crunches a day. I also do oblique crunches to make sure I am strengthening all of my core and not just my abs. I have a little pattern that I follow. I start with the medicine ball and do ten "around the worlds" in each direction.Ball in left hand bring the ball behind you and pass it to your right hand. Bring your right hand around to your front and pass it to your left hand. Repeat 10 times. This is to keep my shoulders loose and to increase range of motion. I have to do this since I also had shoulder surgery and it is a hold over from my rehab days. Then I do 10 crunches on the ball with the same medicine ball held in front of my face. Next is what ever weight training I am doing that day. Shoulders and back, bi's & triceps, or chest. One set of whatever weight and then I go get a sip of Water from the fountain. This gives me the rest before I repeat the process and helps me hit my water goal for the day. On a shoulder day, I will do about 7 different exercises with 3 sets. In between those are sets of 10 crunches on the ball. Then I switch to the cable machine for 2 different oblique exercises. After I finish with the weight room, I go over to the cardio for 30 min to get a good sweat on. It took me a good two months to build up to that. I want to stress that I am not trying to build muscle though. Back when I was far more into weight lifting, it was all about muscle growth. I am only trying to stave off atrophy and muscle loss right now. I am not doing anything over 30lbs EVER! I am only 4 months out, you cannot gain muscle mass safely at this stage. Worry about gaining muscle and definition after you hit your goal. <edit> Woah, that turned out to be a book. Sorry about that, didn't mean to go all Steinbeck on you!
  19. Hey welcome to LBT, I did my research for about a year and decided what the heck I will go for it , so I went to a seminar and went from there my insurance was a little flip flop at the time , they didnt know if I had to do a 6 month diet thing or not so I had to wait needless to say, then I got a green light in Aug and then ended up changing doc which slowed the process down becuz my first date for surgery was 09/19/08 but that was put off I am now with a new surgeon a better one and next wednesday I am going in to have it done finally!!!!!!!! good luck to u and welcome

    excited and nervous

Congratulations on your decision. Nervous is normal, I think. You are making a big decision, and don't let anyone tell you you're taking the easy way out. The band is a tool that helps you control portion size. It is still up to you to eat healthy and exercise. If you are ready to make the commitment, take advantage of all the resources your bariatric team offers. I started going to support group 6 months before my surgery. Even now if I have a question for the dietician I can email her, and occasionally I do. I walk mostly for exercise at a park near home, and I still have a Protein shake almost every day. I take my recommended vitamins(multi, Calcium citrate with D, B12), plus a few others (fish oil and glucosamine/chondroitin and extra Vitamin C). I have gone from a size W22 or 2XL to misses 10-12, or medium tops with small pants. It is worth the effort. I am also off of almost all Rx drugs I was taking before surgery(stopped 2 cholesterol meds, reflux med, and one BP med). I have one BP med and a pain med for my arthritic knees, which are doing much better since my weight loss. I don't need the pain med much at all. Good luck on your journey.
