Aetna revision band to sleeve
amboyd replied to amboyd's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Thanks. I went in on Friday to see if I can switch. The girls submitted all my paperwork to aetna yesterday. They said I should get an answer within 2 weeks. Then I can start my pre op diet . So I can have my sleeve in about a month. I called my insurance and checked with them also. They told me that I didn't have to go through all the testing like before because the same doctor is doing it. They have all my info already. Nice -
Hi! My husband is in the Air Force and we are stationed at Lackland AFB, TX. I was seriously considering the RNY surgery, but was too scared of the possible complications and side effects. Just this past week I found out that Tricare is now covering the lap band surgery. I had said before that if they ever did I would do it in a heartbeat. However, we will be moving this summer (more than likely) and I don't want to start the process of getting approved and then have to start it over when we move. I just hope where ever we move I will be able to find a good surgeon. Does anyone know how to look for a great surgeon in the bariatric field? Or have any tips of what to look for? Also, my BMI is only 34 right now however I am borderline diabetic, I have PCOS, hypertension, high cholesterol, and had my gall bladder removed 10/07. I could still lose 100lbs and be in my normal wt. range though. Also, I'm looking for people's experiences with getting the lap band. What I can look forward to, or not? I'm very excited for this journey! I know that with the lap band I'm not going to drop 60lbs in a month or anything and this is particularly why I chose the lap band. I really wanted something that will help me keep off the wt. more effectively than just diet and exercising. I really see this as a tool to lose wt. more than just a miracle wt. loss procedure. Thanks in advance for all your advice!:wink2:

1. sleeping on your couch might be easier than sleeping in your bed. Since I came home, I've been on the couch, sleeping on my back. Eventually, you'll be able to sleep on side, but for me, it's been easiest while still on the couch. 2. My tastes changed on the Protein drinks for post-op. You might have to change what you get, so go sparingly on this. 3. You'll probably need something to help you easily use the bathroom. Maybe invest in gel stool softeners. If you don't use the restroom atleast once during the week, speak with your doctor/surgeon. Not using the bathroom for two weeks is BAD!

Dumbest Thing I Saw on the News
lawismylife posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I saw last week on Channel 2 News a segment on a doctor who hypnotizes people to believe that they have had lapband surgery so that they lose weight. He charges $1200 for 4 sessions! They highlighed two clients of his. One lost 20 lbs over like 6 months, and the other just tried it. And guess what, she lost 1 lb that week! If you want a laugh you can google it and see if it pops up. They built up "going under the knife" to such an extreme. And I was watching the segment, 7 days post op, thinking "these people have no idea what the heck this feels like!" -
Will Insurance Reject Me The First Time ?
Kellysue replied to KellyBMemphis's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every insurance is different which I am sure you know. So you may not get the answer you want here...However, have you called to see what they cover? If they cover it with or without conditions and you meet the conditions, I don't think they can deny you. I wasn't denied at all. It was smooth and easy. I had a 6 month wait with supervised weight loss, but everything went in and I was approved within 2 weeks. I have blue cross. -
swallowing pills! when to start...
Tracy46545 replied to Megan_SF's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 4 weeks out. I continue to dissolve my Nexium in about a tsp of warm water and follow it with a couple sips of water. However, after my torn ACL incident last week, I've been taking Vicodin which is a rather large pill. Thankfully they are scored so I take a 1/2 at a time with water, without dissolving them. They go down just fine. I'm not taking any multi-vitamins yet. I know I should be, I just haven't figured out what and when. -

Staying Focused During A Stall Or Extended Slow Loss Period.
MinaT replied to pasquini's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thank you so much. I felt like I haven't lost a thing in so long that I was going to lose my mind. I went to my Nut & Dr. appointment all frowny face like and said I lost 27 inches since surgery and that's incredible. (They measure one leg, one arm, neck, upper chest, stomach and hips). I am gaining muscle and since it takes up less space it may slow my scale down a bit at first. I am staying the same weight for a week then I drop 2-3 pounds then I stay the same for a week drop 2 and it's really hard until you get the drop. It's frustrating, but I'll keep at it. I know the weight will have to give in before I do, because I'm not changing my ways, except I am going to try to find ways to confuse my body with exercise now. -
Hey there... I think I have been on this site atleast once a day, I am putting my deposit down on my new life next week.. I have decided to have my surgery at OCC with Dr. Ortiz the week of Thanksgiving. I am soo excited yet sooo nervous. I have ALWAYS struggled with my weight... I would loose 10... 20.. 50 pounds to ALWAYS gain it back.. IT SUCKS.... Then I get the joy of adding Menapause to the mix at 41 ( whew no one tells you how fun that is going to be) I had originally thought about doing the Lap Band , but A good friend of mine had hers fail( she eventually did gastric bypass) Sooo gastric sleeve here I come. My best friend is going to meet me there, she is in California and I am in Georgia and my husband will be in Afghanistan( he is behind me 100%) . This site has been soo helpful, I have found answers to things I did not even know to ask, so thank you everyone for being so honest. Now if the next few months would fly by I would be a happy camper. I look forward to getting to know ya'll .

Buy the stool softeners! My first 2 poops were like granite. Worse than childbirth and I had big-headed babies! I'm at almost 6 weeks and I still rotate colace and milk of magnesia and sometimes glycerin suppositories.

Pouch pain is your own fault- interesting talk with my PA
Amyllf2 replied to Amyllf2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
JoleneB, I am 4 weeks post op tomorrow. I'd say week 1 was really tough and each week after got better. Actually each day got a little better. Looking back so much of the "blah" early on was related to comfortable sleep, or lack there of. I'm still having energy issues. I've had to add some non-traditional fluids and I've doubled my B12. Now that I am eating more "real" food" I feel more "normal" which I think is also helping. Hang in there. Each day makes a huge difference! -
1 Day until I have CONTROL!!
cajun replied to Boredoncemore's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The swelling does make it hard to get the fluids down at first...that will gradually get better. But that's the most important thing the first few weeks...fluids. Don't worry about protein and other stuff...just don't get dehydrated! That can cause lots of problems that you don't want. Sip Burp, Sip, Burp....walk walk walk, nap in between. You'll do fine! Right now your sleeve is in control...it's going to do some great work for you! -
Newbie From San Diego
SoCalShannon replied to SoCalShannon's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Jess77! I went to my PCP twice already. She is supportive of me having it done, but says in her experience it is tough to get the referrals approved. She put the request in last week and said to make an appointment with her for a month later. She said then I will find out if the referral is approved. In the meantime, she has me seeing a nutritionist as a backup in case of a denial. That way my medical history will show more weight loss attempts. It is frustrating having to wait so long...actually it's torture! I am the kind of person that when I make up my mind I just do it, so this wait is killing me. I really want to have it done over the summer and begin the new healthier me, but at this point I have to go through the process and pray that it ends up in my favor. I will keep you all updated. Jess77 since you are going strait to the surgeon, does that mean you are self pay? Please let me know how your appointment goes. -

I just had my 5 week appointment and am now on soft foods...chicken, tuna, shrimp, canned fruits, cooked veggies. I really think this will help me to get all my protein in. It's funny, i'm so excited but will probably get full after like 4 bites..ha!

Vote: Would you be interested in a local 5K run?
haroldrussi replied to TklMeSkinny's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I used to do a 5K every week when I was traveling but I would usually do it at a walking pace instead of running and I assume that will be ok for this event as well. -
Vote: Would you be interested in a local 5K run?
haroldrussi replied to TklMeSkinny's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes I get bored easily so most of the locations I travel to have 5K run/walks each week on Saturdays so I would spend the hour doing the 5K then find something to do the rest of the day. I walk about a mile each day so a 5K (3mile) is not hard. -
I physically can't drink till about an hour after eating or I vomit. But the fill was taken out of my band 2 weeks ago to fix a slip and I've been spoiled by drinking with my meals. I get filled again next week so that'll be out soon. I love Mexican food but also can't drink when I eat it. I'm really thirsty till I can drink again. Marci
