Living with a new stomach?
Arabesque replied to HaseenS's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Aah, this sounds very familiar. We’ve all been where you are & gone through much the same experiences & feelings. Stalls are frustrating but they happen. Think of them as your body taking a break to catch up with all the changes. They come & they go too. Stick to your plan, avoid the scales for a few days & you’ll be fine. Are you taking small bites (a teaspoon)? Are you eating slowly? Is your food moist? Eating small bites slowly ensures you’re not putting too much pressure on your much smaller tummy & helps to ensure you don’t eat until you are full. Try to eat until you’ve had enough & what you need. Do you need that next bite or just want it? When you say nothing tastes good or satisfies do you you mean the food you’re eating does not offer the same comfort it did before? Coming to terms with how you see food & how you used food can be very challenging. Food should be enjoyable & tasty but shouldn’t offer an emotional support. Plus you’re making big changes to your diet. By following your eating plan you are eating very differently & likely avoiding a lot of the food you used to eat. This also can be upsetting & some experience food grief. In time you may be able to re introduce some of your old favourites occasionally or in much smaller portions. Also, your tummy can be more sensitive & fussy for a while & you’ll have times where you can’t tolerate something you ate easily yesterday. I used to say my tummy was like a tantrum throwing 2yr old. If your tummy doesn’t like something, give it a break for a week & then try again. Many of us experience a change to our taste buds &/or sense of smell post surgery too & food we used to enjoy becomes disgusting. It does pass. The first couple of months can be a struggle. So many changes. Everything is different. But it will all get better & much easier to manage. Don’t be afraid to seek the assistance of a therapist to help you. All the best. -
I am 8 weeks post op. I've lost 42 lbs. I am now at a stall weight which is fine I guess, I've read serveal post that say this stall is just temperary so I'm trying to remain optimistic. My biggest problem is "food". Nothin goes down right and nothing feels good in my stomach. I'ts very discouraging. And I miss the satified feeling you get when you eat something really good. Everything I try to eat taste okay but not good. Plus I get really full really fast.

Thanks. I have actually struggle with logging in my food, I haven't done that in a really long time. I felt like I didn't really have to do it for the first six months so I recently started trying to get used to that habit, I would do well logging in breakfast but than the rest of the day I would just fail so I think I should start logging in my foods and try to develop this habit. I think I am doing well with my exercise; I think it's mostly my food. I know I was snacking way too much too so I am trying to now avoid snacking on those snacks that im like hooked to and im going to avoid eating out for this coming month and see if that helps. I just bought tons of meat at the store and veggies so im hoping this will help me this week, taking it day by day I do love cooking so my goal is to cook in batches for the next day and week, to make my food delicious and colorful and to just enjoy it again. I also do struggle eating slow, I tend to eat fast and I haven't been drinking at least 64oz of water per day, I know my body needs more especially with me exercising more. I guess I am just feeling overwhelmed with logging in my food, exercising, drinking enough of water, etc. So I guess I know what im struggling with, so I just need to focus on those to help me get back on track. It just seems harder already, my appetite has increased greatly and im lacking motivation at this moment because I still have a long way to go

you should have protein drinks 30g. premiere , sugar free popsicles, sugar free fudge pops , crystal light any flavor to add to your water, unflavored isopure protein get from gnc , chicken broth , water with protein already in it. these are the things you will have to choose from for the first 2 weeks of your surgery.

Home Care Aide after Brachioplasty

I would imagine the surgeon requires that you are not alone the first 24 hours anyway. The next day it would be helpful to have someone to set up and arrange things for you. From there you can probably handle things yourself or just have someone come for 1-2 hours once or twice a day. Showering is hard initially but you probably can't do that until you are back home anyway. Bring one of those gripper openers just in case you need to open a bottle that's tight. You can ask the pharmacy to give you easy to open pill bottles not the child proof ones. Maybe try to pack a tiny scissor in your suitcase to open any plastic pain tablets. Gripping and ripping were hard to do after surgery besides the obvious reaching over head. You would probably need help lifting your suitcase for the trip home. I wasn't driving for at least a week after. I would definitely hire a cleaning service and also have them do laundry. There's no way you can safely pull out a load of heavy wet clothes or bedding. Later you can do just a small load with a few items on your own. Get a long reacher, have a wedge for the bed (ask the hotel for a lot of extra pillows and even use an extra blanket rolled up to make a wedge to sleep more upright), maybe a seat for the shower and long shower hose so you can do that on your own once you return home. Before you leave have your home set up so everything is within reach. Even buy milk in half gallons vs a big gallon size. Have everything set out on the counters so its ready when you get home. Not very eco friendly but have bottles of water in the fridge and premake meals so you don't have to mess with that after surgery. -
Not losing anything??
DarkSoul replied to DarkSoul's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Huh, I didn't realize it lasted weeks! I'm going into my 7th week, so hoping it ends soon. Sent from my SM-N986U1 using BariatricPal mobile app -
most people hit several stalls along their journey - it's just part of weight loss. When you hit one, make sure you're sticking to your eating plan, and stay off your scale for a few days. They'll eventually break, and you'll be on your way again.

Not losing anything??
catwoman7 replied to DarkSoul's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it's almost certainly the three week stall. Happens to almost all of us. If you do a search on it on this site, you will find over 17,000 posts on it (and no, I am NOT kidding). It usually lasts 1-3 weeks, so you should be at or near the end of it. I dropped about 6-8 lbs in just a couple of days after mine ended. -
Gastric sleeve surgery Dec 27th anyone else new to this?
sindibee replied to Jlwilkins's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Missie, I also had my sleeve surgery on Dec. 22nd. I'm following my doctor's plan for the most part but I've eaten a few things that are further along(only soft things) because I've not had any problems eating anything. I'm getting in my protein pretty easily but getting my water is hard. Especially when I'm not supposed to drink 30 mins before I eat and not until 30 mins after. When you eat 6 tiny meals a day, that hour of waiting takes a lot of your water drinking time away. Plus, I'm a school teacher and I'm constantly going! I'm ready to hit that 6 week mark! Almost there! Sent from my SM-G986U1 using BariatricPal mobile app -

It took them 3 weeks to give me a new date - so hang in there! -
Hello! I started pre-op Nov 17, surgery Dec 1st. I started at 429 and am now 377. I have been stuck for almost 3 weeks at this weight. No changes in measurements or clothing. Nothing has changed. I am getting beyond frustrated. I try and meet protein and water goals every day, but that doesn't always happen. I have tried upping different things( carbs, fat, protein, etc) with no change. Please tell me this is normal? I have heard of the 3 week stall, but this is ridiculous [emoji24] Sent from my SM-N986U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

Weight gain or standstill
msleo88 replied to msleo88's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey everyone just checking in. So today is exactly a month since surgery..... I've lost 9lbs.....scale hardly moves I've been at 291 for a week now. I went to see my surgeon about a week ago and she seems pleased. I can tell in my face and arms I've lost weight but the scale is just not moving at all. I'm trying to keep the faith but it's hard when I read people lost 15 lbs a month after surgery and I'm not even at 10lbs. [emoji37] Sent from my SM-A716U using BariatricPal mobile app -
My biggest fear is the stall im 8 weeks post Op, I have lost 42lbs and now I fear im stuck. Lord just help me get outta the two hundreds please!!

I lost 10 pounds week one then only one pound since and I’ll be 4 weeks out this coming Tuesday. I’ve lost 29 pounds total from liquid to now. My Nutritionist told me I need to push my calories to 1200 a day to start loosing again. I’m walking 3 miles a day now so I’m super frustrated l. I was vegan preop and I was loosing way more than this and I’ve questioned if this was smart or not. My husband, surgeon and Nutritionist keep telling me to be patient I’ll loose eventually… but when? We shalll see I suppose I only had 100 to loose so now I have around 70 it is encouraging to see you’ve lost 107

What were some of the first solid foods you tried?
Spinoza replied to LoriM13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Chicken was my go-to for some weeks as soon as I was allowed proper solids. Chicken with gravy, or cold chicken and a bit of mayo. Always went down well and has a good protein hit. Thigh/leg meat is nicer than breast but then that's always been my opinion. I had lamb and beef and pork too pretty early on - basically whatever I was cooking for the family! -
Revision because of Complications
jensteinberg16 replied to lindseylovesdogs's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm 18 days post op from my revision. I had RNY in 2007 and about 5 years ago, I started getting small bowel obstructions. Surgeon thought it was scar tissue, so I went in for an exploratory laparoscopy expecting minimal recovery, and I came out with a brand new bottom half of my bypass (rare issue called intussusception). For about a week, I was sore and tired and needed the pain meds. The biggest thing post op is to get your protein and vitamins in. The fatigue was the most debilitating but I ended up adding some extra vitamin D, B and omega 3s and it made a world of a difference. I have a desk job and after about 5 days I could sit and work for a few hours at a time before I needed a break. I've made sure to keep my social calendar empty so I can reserve my energy for the 'must do's'. I'm on purees now and I'm feeling better each day. Best of luck to you and I hope they're able to fix your issue soon! Sent from my SM-G991U using BariatricPal mobile app -
July 2021 Surgery People!
Bluebonnetgirl replied to Sammys_VSG_Evolution's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Had my surgery July 15, 2021. Down 68 pounds. In November I hit a stall that lasted well into the first week of January. I just started losing again last week. I am happy with my progress and still hopeful I will hit my target eventually. Would love to hear how others are doing. -
6 Almost 6 months out and have lost
Bluebonnetgirl replied to Ready21's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 6 months out and have lost about 68 pounds. I had been stalled since the end of November and sought advice from my nutritionist. She said to to keep on keeping on. So I did and suddenly this past week, I started losing again. I go by volume rather than oz. But I eat 3/4 a cup at a time. Eat between 800-1000 calories a day. Work out at the gym 3 times a week and do 30 minutes of cardio 6 days a week. I wish it were more and I have certainly not my surgeons goals at any check up, but I am close. He wanted me to be at 160 by my February appt. I am not sure I am going to make that, but I will be within 10lbs of it. -
Are you a member of the polar bear club?
Bluebonnetgirl replied to AnotherGuy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 6 months and still freezing- all the time. I do notice that when I keep up on my movement/exercise goals in addition to my macro goals it is not nearly as bad as the days/weeks when I don't. So I am learning it is important to keep that metabolism up and keep the fires burning not just for weight loss but for warmth! -
Revision because of Complications
lindseylovesdogs replied to lindseylovesdogs's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
yes they know whats going on. my surgeons office hasnt done too much but i get endoscopy results this week from my stomach doctor and then i guess my surgeon will go from there. -
I’m almost a month out and saw my nutritionist Thursday because I’ve only lost a pound the past 2 weeks m. I use an app for my calories and water and even though I’m getting in my water my calories are under 750. She told me to up my calories and it should break the stall. So my advice is follow the protocol you’ve been given and if you feel unsure etc see if you can get into your nutritionist- it made all the difference in the world to me and calmed my anxiety way way down.
