  1. 25 days out and down 18 pounds. I am sticking to the once a week weigh in. I agree that it feels like it’s coming off sooo slooow. I reminded myself that I would have overeaten over the holidays so I “saved” 10 more pounds. We all need Jedi mind tricks. How are folks doing with their vitamins? I’m not as consistent as I want to be yet. Doing a once a day chewable bariatric vitamin and 3 patches - Vitamin D, vitamin B and Collagen.
  2. Just had my surgery December 28th, and just one week out. I'm having a hard time getting all of these protein and fluids in. 😳 and I have only lost like 2 pounds. hmmm follow up with surgeon next week.
  3. I'm updating here because I know that when I have a question, I search the forums looking for content similar to what I'm going through. My surgery was November 30th, which I think puts me in week 5, and although I can't just anything, I am definitely eating a lot more solid food and I have to say that I am way more satiated and full for much longer. So for anyone in the very early phases who might be feeling crazy hungry and discouraged, it's gets way better, very early on! Hang in there!
  4. Question - I was loosing .5 a day average post op. Today I’m out day 13 and I haven’t lost anything since I started purée phase 4 days ago. I know a stall at a normal around week 3 but is this normal? I’m eating tuna because that’s all I seem to tolerate. Anyone else having this issue? I’m walking daily and have an appt on the 13th with the nutritionist hoping that’ll get things moving.

    December 28, I am still on 1st week of clear liquid diet. I finally had sugar free jello and popsicles two days ago.

  8. Hello All, Reading this forum for a few months has taught me that everyone is a little different. But today, I am looking for some 'misery loves company' friends. If you are able, riddle me this. Why are there times you get so cold? I do not understand. As for context, I am a few weeks post surgery. Things are going well...just wondering who gave me a membership into this Polar Bear Club. I wasn't looking to join a club where members are forced to freeze nearly to death. Through my years, I have always been a warm person...temperature wise that is. To say it another way, I have always been a "scrub a little too hard and I can sweat in the shower" kind of person. But, as Bob Dylan once said, "The times, they are a changin." Let me explain. There are times when I am on the couch. I am dressed in warm clothes and thick, comfy socks. I am under at least two or three hefty blankets. There is a fire in the fireplace. A large labrador retriever that goes by the name of Bella is curled up beside me sharing her warmth. Yet, I still shiver to my bones. What the hell is going on here? As odd as this may sound, I have actually worn a winter hat inside of my own house because I cannot get warm. But a few hours will pass and, suddenly, I feel like I am back to normal. During these 'winter wonderlands,' my beautiful wife is wearing shorts, no socks and a flimsy t-shirt. As she lifts her hair in an attempt to cool herself, she proclaims the problem is with me. So I have a few questions for you. Perhaps you can help me. 1) Have you experienced this same issue? 2) Does it go away? If so, when? 3) Does anyone really know what causes it? 4) Why am I not cold all the time? Thanks for all of your sharing. Hopefully your wisdom will provide me with some new knowledge. I wish each of you the most wonderful, healthy and fulfilling days ahead. Best, AnotherGuy

    Return to work

    I had VSG on Tuesday, was back to work Monday. But I have a desk job and work from home full time, so no commute, no having to huff around a building, no dealing with other humans. And, even then, the first week or so I took a nap after work every single day. The pain was extremely minimal, but the fatigue and exhaustion was pretty intense. By 2 weeks post-op I felt mostly normal, or normal enough to make it through the day without a catnap.

    I had RNY in August and have a desk job. Here was my timeline. I had my surgery on Monday. Left the hospital on a Wednesday. I did some very minor work (respond to emails, etc) on Friday at home. The entire next week, I worked mornings from home, just a few hours so I didn't fall too far behind (I had worked with my boss to get ahead of schedule prior to the surgery). Two weeks to the day after my surgery, I went back to the office. My only issue was some minor stomach discomfort from sitting and wearing dress pants (I am/was a big guy and wear them around my waist/stomach). My boss said I could temporarily wear sweatpants at my desk, with the understanding I would change back to dress pants if I had a meeting to go to. That lasted about a week or two before I was fully back to normal.
  11. Congrats! You are almost at onederland. I was 241.5 surgery date. Didn’t lose anything before surgery (Dec 17th) which was annoying since I wasn’t eating and I was walking 10,000 steps a day minimum. 7 days out of surgery I was down to 228 (13.5 lb loss) and then stagnated at 228 for about the next 2 weeks. Pretty sure pms and my menstrual cycle prevented me from losing more weight. I stopped obsessing over the scale because I was feeling like I wasn’t losing after the first initial loss so now I will only weigh in this coming Friday and every Friday thereafter, however I do feel the difference in my close. I can’t wait to be out of the 200’s. It hasn’t even been 3 weeks out of surgery but I want to be “skinny” already lol, but I also don’t want the extra loose skin so I need to remind myself to be patient and be positive that I am on my way to a healthier life. Also I can’t remember the last time I lost 13.5 lbs so fast so I need to see that as a win! You are on your way as well. Happy for you and that you are feeling better now and seeing results!

    Reading labels.

    A textbook is a great idea. Something that someone studying to become a nutritionist or dietician would start out with. Yea that cauliflower pasta has cauliflower as the first ingredient but it also lists three kinds of flour so it’s not exactly pure. These are the things I want to be able to recognize. Yea I just have the lunchable or P3 out of convenience. Well that and I am a creature of habit. I guess I could stand to switch it up a bit at lunchtime. I just get lazy and do what works. Lol. Anyways, thanks for the idea of the textbook and the suggestions.

    No. I get my recommended macs in almost daily. Maybe one or 2 days a week I fall behind I'm going to try the warm tea and drink more and let yall know how it goes.     I was told 0.7 to 1.0 grams of protein per pound of /lean body mass/ - not weight. Which presumes you know your LBM (I do)—you can get a test to figure this out, or use a machine and get a guesstimate of your body fat percentage, and then do math. I am three and a half months out and am eating 1500-1600 calories a day—140 g of protein, 50 g of fat, and 120-150 g of carbohydrates depending on my need for physical exertion for the day. "The scale eats first," which means I weigh and portion everything and track it before I put it in my mouth (this is easier when you portion out a couple or three days' worth of food at a time to reheat).

    See if you can get back in to your dietician & with their guidance develop an eating plan that is sustainable in the long term. It’s best to design a way of eating that works for you & not for someone else. You’re physiologically & psychologically different to everyone else. You may find you don’t follow a specific ‘diet’ but pick & choose across a few eating styles. Like low carb but not low fat or incorporate some vegan or vegetarian meals each week. In the meantime, & as a starting point, keep in mind the recommended daily amounts for the ‘average’ person who’s maintaining like 6 teaspoons or 25g added sugar per day for women. You will need to consume less if you still want to lose. Take into account your plan, lifestyle & personal needs. How many calories are you eating a day? It seems like it could be low if you’re still on shakes. It’s not sustainable to be still having shakes for breakfast & most lunches. You need to be eating real food, especially as you seem to be almost at your goal weight, to get the nutrients your body needs. I stopped taking multivitamins from maintenance because I got all I needed from the food I ate. I was so happy not to have to take them or buy them! I don’t buy a lot of prepared foods, sauces, condiments, etc. simply so I can control the ingredients & how they’re prepared/cooked. If I do, I study the nutrition panel & look for low processed foods, low sugar content, low fat content, multi & whole grains, no or low artificial sweeteners, Watch the ‘front of the jar’ labelling though. No added sugar usually means they’ve used artificial sweeteners or sugar alternatives or they’ve upped the fat. I bought a 25% less fat ‘lite’ peanut paste. It actually had 50% more carbs, 20% more sugar & only 16 calories less per serve.

  17. 5’2” female. At the 6 month mark, I was at 97 lbs lost. But this includes ~12 lbs lost during my 2 week pre-op diet, so really it was more like 85 lbs lost in the first 6 months immediately after surgery. FYI, during weight loss phase i went with volume and calories measures way to monitor intake (cuz there is a huge diff between 1oz of steak and 1oz of salad or 1oz of almonds in terms of “eat-ability” AND calories) With that said, at my 6 month mark, I was averaging about 700-ish calories a day, with each “meal” coming up to no more than 1 cup in volume (if I remember correctly). I use the term “meal” loosely as I was (and sorta still am) a grazer. But I’ve read enough on here to learn that my experience differs from many (and is similar to some). I have also learned that while everyone loses at their own pace and implements their own strategies, we all end up in the same place eventually so long as we stick with our plan and make adjustments as necessary. Good Luck! ❤️ P.S. I am 3+ years out now and have maintained below goal weight the entire time. I average about 1800 cals a day with moderate exercise. …. Though, full disclosure, I was 2lbs outside my “happy weight range” a couple days ago, which has since been lost (a couple good poops did it, I think, lol…that and I cut down on the copious amounts of Xmas chocolates I’ve been porking on). This morning I was 119 lbs even, but I feel better when I’m closer to the lower end of my happy weight range so am gonna shoot for 115 and see if I can get back down there without too much discomfort, ha!….we shall see.
  18. That’s three pounds a week. Not sure if your stats but I agree that sounds like your doing fine. Especially if you had a low ish starting weight. I am almost nine months out and have only lost 51 pounds post surgery and my team is totally thrilled with my loss so far.
  19. I had my surgery on Dec 1 the first week was ROUGH! I was debating if I did the right thing. 5 weeks later I KNOW I did highest weight 245 surgery weight 225 current weight 205 35yrs old 5’7

    @catwoman7. I’ve read so much of it , and then my stomach hurts or like I wrote and I freaked out. Not gonna lie I’m scared of having it . thank you I think you and everyone else is right and I just need to take it day by day . See my surgon for my one week post op apt . So hopefully he says im doing ok .

    Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?

    Hello all. Had VSG done 12/20/21. (Date was pushed up 1 day from original planned date) I’m 4’11 and was 186 day of surgery. I followed through on most of my preop liquid diet. Clear liquids, protein shakes, and non starch veggies only. Gas pains were the absolute worst. Tried to walk and they were gone in a week. Was feeling better and all of a sudden I got sharp migraine nausea retching and vomiting. My daughter ended up getting sick too throwing up bile. Was told she had COVID although I was negative and we hadn’t gone out but to 1 othodontist visit. I went to ED twice for IV and pain meds. It’s been terrible getting a hold of my bariatric team still no word. Better today, but still nauseated and now having earache. I have regrets. I thought I was mentally prepared and this is so uncomfortable. Im allowed to eat purée today and I’ve done ok with just strawberries and ice chips.

  24. I don't know what your starting weight was, but I started at 373 lbs and lost 16 lbs the first month. I don't remember where I was at the six-week point (it's been a few years since I had surgery - and I only have my monthly weights in my spreadsheet), but I was probably not that far ahead of you. that pound you gained could be anything - water retention, more stool than usual in your intestines, hormone related - I wouldn't worry about a pound. Weight fluctuates all the time. As long as your overall trend is down, you're good.
  25. My goodness, who told you to punish yourself this much, dear? Is this something you can do for the rest of your life? If not, then maybe see what would be sustainable long-run? There's definitely some muscle (and water retention to build that muscle) happening with this schedule, but seriously, your body may be holding on to everything it has due to the sudden shock? How about taking two-three rest days, getting 1000-1200 calories at least including 60-80g protein, and see what happens? Give yourself some time to catch up?
