Anyone having surgery in Oct ?

@@CHELLB33 I guess I am a bit nervous too since I am a revision patient. What we do know is that my stomach is twisted. He said it could be longer than normal surgery time because they don't really know until they get in. I have a hernia repair too! I am glad they were able to get you all fixed up and on the road to recovery. How are you feeling this morning? When will you get released?

    Hi from Ireland!

A kind soul sent me a list of questions, and I've taken them and added a few and tweaked the list, here it is: Questions to ask during consultation: 2) Research the doctor. What kind of follow up care is provided? (ie: fills, unfills, endoscopies, fluroscopies, port revisions, removal, etc). Ask to speak to about 5 or 6 of his patients before you make a decision. Ask those people if they have any complaints or issues with their care before, during and after the procedure. How many of the procedures has he done? What types of complications can occur from this procedure and how frequently do they happen? (ie: perforations, etc) What types of complications has he personally ran into doing this procedure? What is his policy when a complication occurs during a procedure? (ie: does he discuss options with family or immediately convert to bypass or other WLS). Is he Inamed approved for the procedure? If not then who qualified him to perform the procedure and can you have literature to verify this? 3) Research the procedure. How is the procedure performed? Will you use the Pars Flaccida approach? What type of sutures do you use? Can I request glue and not staples? Will I have a catheter placed? If I am on my menses, can I wear a tampon? What will I need to have prepared when I get home in way of food items? What are the short term issues? What are the long term issues? How will I be able to take my pills? Will you write today for liquid pain meds? Do you want me to take antibiotics post-op? If so, will you write for Diflucan? 4) Follow up care. What is the schedule for fills? When can I get my first fill? How is the fill procedure performed? (ie: with or without fluroscopy) What is the cost for fills? (under fluro and not) How often will I need to be seen? Will I have access to a Nutritionist? How do you handle unfills? Is there a direct line in case of Emergencies? Does your doctor have email address? Should I continue to take Metformin? What Vitamins should I be taking? Will I need to crush my pills? If so then for how long? Are there any pills that cannot be crushed? If so then how will I be able to take them?
  3. Little bit about me... Had the lap band in spring 2007 after hitting a high of 450... dropped down in to the 320s... stalled, had some different life issues cause some emotional issue... needless to say I bounced back up nearer to the 380s at one point. Settled in around 360 and decided to go get a revision to DS... which was Friday. Weight at surgery was right about 360. Stepped on my home scale this morning... 338.4. It's a lot in a short time. I feel like a million bucks, though. I've taken minimal painkillers other than tylenol in the last couple days. Woke up with some pain in the center of my back and couldn't really get comfortable after that... so I took one of my happy pills this morning at 8. I've done a good job staying hydrated, slightly under protein target but working on it. I've been able to move around the house (up and down stairs as well) without much issue. All the internal plumbing is working. Follow-up is tomorrow morning with the surgeon. Should I be waiting for the other shoe to drop? Am I doing *too* well to expect this will continue? Is reality going to kick my butt in the next few days?

    Nina's Plastics journey

Nina: Congratulations on your weight loss. You can and are doing it. I have lost a total of 10 pounds in the last month. I am working very hard. Exercising 6 days a weeks and counting every blasted calorie. I think it is paying off! Unfortunately, the weight loss seems to be making my breasts even empytier. I ordered a kit from a female plastic surgeon on the internet that has a special bra and different size implants, so you can try them on in your own home, have your husband look and decide for yourself. I guess that sizing is an issue because the sizes don't come in bra or cup sizes but in cc's. According to this website, deciding on the size can be difficult and is the main and most common reason for revision surgery. Anyway, I haven't made up my mind, but I did talk to the PS and I don't have to decide until the 2 week pre-op visit, so I have time to think about every thing. I guess I'm inclined to go for it, even though it's an additional $1,800. My DH thinks I should leave well enough alone!

7 years, lost 120, got rebanded!

Wow, what an inspiration you are! I had to call my daughter over to see your pics. Thank you for posting your story, especially about your decision to be rebanded. Often we only here of the people who had slips and decide to revise to something else. Thanks again!

    Sleeve to Gastric Bypass

One of the main reasons is reflux. There is a high incidence of it with the sleeve, especially in revisions from band.
  7. I'm not quite 7 months out and am down 92 lb.s It's a myth that revision folks don't lose much or don't lose quickly. Best of luck to you, Kim

7 Months and Feeling Like a Success

It was a tough decision - especially since I revised only 9 months after having my band installed. But once I got it in, and wasn't losing weight (and having such difficulty with fills and restriciton), I started researching other options. When I found the success that everyone had with the sleeve, I was blown away. I went to MX for both surgeries, but with different doctors. I thought I was crazy paying so much money for surgery in one year, but guess what? I'm SO happy I did it. If I hadn't, I'd still be exactly like I was in my before picture .

    Thinking Of Revision!?

I just had my revision this morning. My story with the band is similar to yours. The doctor warned me that I won't have that constrictive feelin from the band so I need to pay extra attention to feelin when my pouch is full. There is also data that says revisions don't lose as fast as new sleevers, but I sure as heck am not going to Lose any if I don't do something !!!

Sophomoreville - A Home For The the Tweeners

I had a follow-up with the surgeon yesterday and left feeling hopeless and doomed to failure, again. He was happy to see the wide range of foods I've been able to eat since the revision to bypass, but I told him I was concerned that I didn't feel any restriction at all, even on dense proteins. He said my restriction is gone - period. That when they did the revision, the pouch just empties into the intestine, the food doesn't stay in the pouch at all. He said that its different for a bypass on a "virgin" stomach, they should have restriction, but I won't. I wish I hadn't had the revision surgery. He said, well, with the bypass, you still can't process carbs, they'll go right through you. So I had to tell him that, at least so far, I don't dump on anything, not carbs, not fats, not simple sugars. I'm screwed once my appetite comes back. My tool is gone and I'm utterly devastated.
  12. My name is Michaela I am 29 I am considering getting a revision to the gastric bypass. I had the sleeve exactly 3 years ago. I am 5’4 at my heaviest I was 272 and got down to 174 now I’m back up to 222. I am super depressed because I don’t know how I let this get this bad. I’m looking for stories of people who have had this revision and what made them decided to do it and how much the have lost so far. Also people who are looking into getting the surgery and what made you decide to look into it.

I met with my NUT once before my revision. She looked at my Myfitnesspal and handed it back to me and said..... Good, keep that up. Then she said, well you should know what to do, this is your second time. Made me feel like a failure... which i was not. Anyway, Friday was my one year and yesterday was my one year appt. All they keep saying is you are doing an amazing job.... but still no sight of the NUT. I'm sure she is there... somewhere. @Keatsy I think i'm with you.... may go back and become a NUT.

    Do I start over? Again?

I had the sleeve done in Feb 2012 and never lost enough weight either! On May 30 I had a revision to ByPass. On the sleeve, I went up and down, highest weight was 252 when I had the sleeve (I am 5 ft 4 in so I am morbidly obese too!)....I could never lose enough to be in "onederland", lowest I got down to was about 212lbs.....over the years my weight went mostly up.....even though I couldn't eat very much at once, I tended to graze.....got up to 242 lbs and decided to get the bypass done. I had to self-pay my sleeve surgery. With my bypass, I also had a hernia repair so my ins covered a good part of the bypass surgery costs. I have lost 20 lbs.....and I started exercising again about 4-5 days week. "Starting over" and doing the bypass is a personal choice.....I felt I had to do it......I am a very slow loser....but I feel in a year from now that I will have a good success story to report! Good Luck with your decision! Melody
  15. Hello my name is Marisa, I live in Perris Ca, I'm waiting to be approved for revision from lap band to sleeve. My support group is also like an hour away. How's it going with your journey?

    Ugh my Mother!

My mom was the same way when I told her I wanted the lapband in 2009. She said "why don't u just do it the old fashioned way?" Her husband late wife died 3 months after have RNY. Got a blood clot. So she thinks everyone dies from wls. The first time I went out to eat with my mom I made the mistake of taking a sip of soda AFTER I ate a bite of food. Came right up. And of course my mom reminded me that woould have never happened had I done it the "right way".. Now that I've lost 100 lbs and kept it off (sleeve revision last year) she's proud and agrees with my decision. Just wait. Ur mom will feel differently when she sees how wonderfully it affects ur life. Good luck!
  17. I would say my band failure is 25/75. I'd say 25% the band's fault because it has never been right after having it deflated while I was pregnant. I had a complete unfill and I had hyperemesis. I threw up all day every day. I have and EGD friday, but my guess is it slipped. I thinks it's 75% my fault because instead of coming here for support earlier (where I realized what had likely happened) I just learned to eat around my band so that I could eat. I ate whatever I could get down, even if it was ice cream or chips or whatever. In any case, I'm still glad I had my band. I lost 65 pounds I would never have lost otherwise. I have a child I wouldn't have otherwise. Also, even though I have failed long term, I feel I can take what I've learned from this and apply it when I have my revision. I won't wait to get help when I have trouble, and if the scale starts to find its way upward, I will regroup and buckle back down. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App

Calling all vets- where are you

Only popped back in now, I’m two years since my MSG revision. I’ve spent the last year hanging around 84 kgs so I’ve another 20 to go (was 135kg at MSG surgery). I have to get back on track as I know how to cheat 🤣

    Pre op Diet Struggles

The pre and post op liquid diet and the variations prescribed by different surgeons are the most challenging of times. You are engaged in an immense amount of change, both with the how and why you eat, and confronting the "new normal " of understanding that the habit of just going to have something to eat whenever you want to has to change if you want to be successful with weight loss. I structured my shakes and the one cup of fresh salad veggies so that there were at equal intervals during the day and evening. I had a bottle of Water with me at all times, and sipped from it frequently. And I kept very occupied with errands and those projects around the house that I never seemed to have the time or motivation. We never had such clean and organized closets and drawers in our house. But it worked to keep me on the straight path of not cheating on my diet. Weight loss success requires "getting your head in the game", and understanding that there is much psychology involved with retooling out eating patterns. Many times what we interpret to be authentic hunger is really "head hunger". We need to be aware of the difference between the two. We also need to be aware when our thoughts create a "need" to eat if/when we are bored. We need to revise our thoughts to be "mindful" when we are eating. That encompasses small bites, timed meals, chewing, chewing, pausing between bites. That also includes being aware of everything you put in your mouth. Best wishes for a successful journey...
  20. Honestly? That I wish I never had it done and did more research on the other options. I was, on the outside, a success...but I suffered a lot to lose my weight and am about to go through revision surgery to Bypass. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Calling all vets- where are you

How much would you have to lose to get to your goal weight (whose goal weight exactly)? I'm asking because results regarding weight loss seem to be quite mixed when it comes to revisions.

Sophomoreville - A Home For The the Tweeners

I'm a revision too and likewise I don't really have restriction. Maybe if I eat a whole lot of dry chicken at once I will feel it back up into my oesophagus and that's a little unpleasant, but otherwise nope. But what I have been feeling is pleasantly satiated after half an hour of eating good quality protein. So I have to force myself to eat the smaller quantity knowing the satisfaction *will come* its just not immediate. Its hard work but its doable. I do have dumping and squits from sugary and fatty food but it's not like one square of chocolate will have me heaving. The dumping can be linked to how much intestine they bypassed. Maybe they were conservative with you. But even without the super virgin stomach benefits, you do still have a tool at your disposal, it's just that maybe you won't have a traditional honeymoon. You may have to live like how a Vet does but be a bit strict with yourself. Think of it this way, you won't get the regain shock that first timers who had a fabulously easy honeymoon do, coz ya been there, done that! Sent from my SM-G930F using BariatricPal mobile app

8 days Post op And I WANT PEANUT BUTTER

I was going to suggest PB2 as well, but I will say this too - cravings can drive anyone crazy, but giving into them now, so early in the game, will make it that much harder to resist later on. I say this as someone who just got out of a gastric bypass revision for a failed sleeve which failed mostly because I caved to my addictions (chocolate specifically) which lead to falling off the wagon entirely.
  25. Julie (nu2ywg) down 4lb to 248 This is just my second challenge and I'm wondering if I make my goal early should I revise the goal? My original goal was 249 so maybe I should aim for 246 for next week or if you don't think I should change it, I'll just be happy with doing better than goal.
