    Band to bypass incisions

I am 3 weeks post band and port removal and it isn't completely closed yet but looks so much better. He told me I would have to wait 8-12 weeks post band removal before revising to bypass, but forgot to ask if he would be using different areas for incisions. I would rather look like a pin cushion than to have him go in the same new incision sites and then have trouble with them healing.
  2. I haven't had revision yet, but have had previous WLS before. I was only off work for 3 weeks and was walking around. You should be fine before wedding day as long as you are getting fluids, protein, and vitamins in. Just be a good girl haha!!!
  3. I was officially approved today for my revision!!! My surgery date is September 17th! I'm so excited'

    PLEASE HELP!

Well denied again, so we appeal again! Lindstrom's were not surprised. Said this is exactly what was expected. Appears my appeal was reviewed by a PLASTIC SURGEON and admittedly agreed that band removal was necessary. So if removal was approved and my original surgery passed all criterion, why not approve the NEEDED revision?!!!! Stinks! But I press on!
  5. I posted this in the revision forum but I want to cast my net out wider... I was finally approved for a revision from band to bypass!!! I'm excited. EXCEPT...I'm getting married in December and I already have my dress (which is in the middle of being altered), I won't be able to eat (I probably won't want to anyway from the stress) and I'm afraid that I might be sick if I get it beforehand. The earliest is at the end of September, wedding date is December 5. Also, if I weight too long then I might lose my approval. My questions is, how long did it take after surgery for you to feel "normal" and not sick? Thoughts? (is this the right forum to post on?) Thank you!!
  6. @@Erron1970 - oh so glad that you have relief! I am so sorry you are still having problems with GERD. It really sucks. Ever since my band was removed, I feel soooooo much better! A few bouts of heartburn but nothing like what I had, it's been amazing! I wonder if the surgeon will go back in our previous port revision sites? Curious as to how many incisions we will have? I posted another thread about this question to other previous bandsters, but haven't heard anything yet. Did your surgeon go over that?

  8. Currently that procedure is still very new , within past 2 yrs and there isn't enough data for long term sucess rates yet. I actually posted a similar thread over the weekend about this. My surgeon recently started performing this procedure and currently he has a patient that is 3 months out. This procedure only provides better restriction from stretching of pouch, however as always... diet and exercise will make it successful. Here is an a great link for a neat animation video. If accessing via mobile, animation will be on bottom of page. If by desktop or laptop top right. I also asked if this was covered under insurance and my surgeon said yes but depends on insurance. In addition, he also said this is a cheaper and less invasive versus revision surgery http://apolloendo.com/procedures/outlet-pouch-reduction/

How was your 5:2 day today?

Very interesting Florinda - and chin up darlin, keep fighting the good fight - you are doing what you need to do to take good care of yourself. The SWANK plan sounds like anything but - it sounds terrible. Makes me think of one of my clients when I lived in NYC who went on a raw macrobiotic diet to help combat Lyme disease and she just started looking like death warmed over - like she had been drained of blood - then another client came waltzing in how had been doing Atkins for the first time looking fit as a fiddle, rosy cheeked - and quite slim. I found a doc closer to us who looks like he has significant experience with revision - I think I might see if I can attend one of his seminars to ask about the gerd issues and a RNY - I am scared of having to get a manometry (hubby had to have it and said it was the worst experience of his life - its where they thread sensors through your nose down your esophagus to place sensors for overnight study, his desciption of it is terrifying and hubby is no puss by a long shot lol) though I am more scared of Barretts esophagus!

How was your 5:2 day today?

rny revision solves acid problem. I don't think the DS does, but that new DS (fewer side effects) interests me. I am 10# over goal and so of course not looking into revision... but I guess I always have it in the back of my mind...

How was your 5:2 day today?

wondering if revision surgery is an option because of the acid? anyone know if a RNY or a DS makes the acid stop? Back to the research.

Band to Sleeve and other questions!

Drewer, I was a very successful patient with the lap band, until by chance, I discovered that it caused my esophagus some real issues. The scariest thing about my situation or what I now know was a blessing in disguise. I was doing awesome with the band and lost over 120 lbs. at the most successful point of my journey. I had no real obvious symptoms or problems, other than I could eat a bit more and had some very little night issues. My insurance company changed at work and so did the their bariatric service. I was forced to switch bariatric services and doctor and when I saw the new doctor, he asked for a UGI. To my surprise, the UGI technician told me to contact my doctor as soon as possible. Things took off very quickly after that and I ended up getting my band removed and revised to sleeve. Had I not seen the new doctor and UGI performed I would have ended up with much more damage that I had - Thank God! Wish I had gone sleeve originally. My vote: Sleeve 100%! Much luck to you! Jake
  13. Good Morning. I am about 6 weeks out from my revision from Band to Sleeve. Doing well but really need a Coach/buddy/pal to keep me accountable. I am following the Beck Diet Solution (Judith Beck) and one of the things I need and want to do is have someone that I can Communicate with at least weekly, before key events, and daily as needed for support and accountability. I want to share weekly changes in weight, successes, receive positive reinforcements, and talk about struggles or setbacks. I also want to be able to talk before high risk situations and discuss strategies for success in these situations (the holidays are coming soon). And I want to be able to reach out to someone if I struggle on a given day. I would in turn be most happy to be your coach/buddy/pal/mentor and help you with the same. I want accountability, trust, and support even when I struggle. Bonus if you are doing the Beck Diet Solution or are willing to, but that is not of course mandatory. Thank you for listening.

Band to Sleeve and other questions!

Hi drewr, I think I would opt for the sleeve. Having lived with the band for 6 years. I haven't done very well with it and now it seems cannot find the "sweet spot" again. It only took once to be too tight and have to get unfilled. Now it seems like I'm in every 3-4 weeks getting filled and unfilled and filled trying to hit that sweet spot and it just doesn't seem to be there. I'm hoping to be able to get a revision from the band to the sleeve in January or February 2016. But, some people have had great success with the band too...It's an individual thing. I'd definitely go to a seminar and ask a ton of questions. Good luck to you!
  15. I already lost 110 lbs with the band but the band needs to come out now because of problems and nothing passing through even after removing all fluid. My surgeon recommend bypass but I am more for a sleeve. The insurance just came back and approved removal but not revision since my BMI is 28. How shortsighted. They did not even pay for my band initially since I was overseas and that insurance covered it. I do not really want to loose that much more weight since many people already ask me if I am sick or anything since I have been loosing so much in the last 4 years, and especially the last 2 years. If I could maintain my weight without the band I would be happy but I am not sure I have the willpower and most stories I hear or read say that people will gain back their weight even between removal and revision.

  17. This is for thise who had band removed...then had to wait for bypass revision. Laparoscopic-gastric-bypass-surgery.html How many incisions do they do for bypass? Do they use the same incision site (that they used for port removal) again for bypass? If so.....Has anyone had any difficulty with incisions healing, after they used the port incision again? I understand that when they use the same incision sites, that the tissue and muscle can become weaker and healing might be a problem. Please share any info. Thanks!

does insurance pay for band removal ?

The insurance approved the removal, however, they declined the revision to bypass since my BMI is now 28 and they require 35. Kind of shortsighted since I have read and heard that most people will gain their weight back after lap band removal. If someone gains their weight back and gets the BMI is over 35 again then they will pay ??? Not sure if I can maintain my weight without any help. I sure would like to and I really would prefer not to have parts of my stomach cut out or my intestines rerouted. That was why I choose the band in the first place. Nowadays they barely recommend the band anymore because of all the problems and revisions required.

    I wish I knew.....

My revision from lap band to sleeve is scheduled for 9/3/15...4 days from now. I'm so glad I found these responses. I'm already having feelings of remorse over knowing I can't eat as I used to. Strangely, I'm also regretting losing most of my stomach. It seems like an odd thing to grieve about, but it's been a part of me my whole life and I feel as if I'm losing an arm or a leg. I've also been on an antidepressant for a number of years, and was told by my PCP to go off ALL meds two weeks ago. So my first 10 days on my pre-op diet have been challenging. Not sure when I can go on my antidepressant again, so am prepared for more depression these next two weeks. Since I've been warned, I'm sure I can handle it. I'm looking forward to my surgery, and feel more prepared now!

    MONEY QUESTION

I have insurance that covers bariatric surgery. It paid for my band and will also pay for my revision to bypass. I have a 500 deductible which I already met. My out of pocket max is 1000. I admit my insurance is pretty good and so glad I have it. Surgery is expensive and the biggest fees are for the hospital, not the Dr. I had thought of getting sleeve cash pay and got a quote of 18 K and that included band removal and hernia repair. The surgeon said his fee was only 3000 and the rest went to the hospital....ridiculous!!! This is why so many people go out of the country. Not everybody can afford that much.
  21. @@Patrick M sorry you are having problems post revision from the band to sleeve heartburn, gerd, not being able to keep food down doesn't sound like fun has doc prescribed Prilosec or something to help get rid of the gerd??? you have talked to doc, he knows your situation hopefully he's right about not being too concerned with your situation it is a fact that some people do have heartburn post sleeve some have it worse than others did you have reflux problems pre sleeve?? good thoughts that your reflux will be helped w/meds try drinking room temp Water, easier for many others to "keep down" must keep trying/forcing yourself to drink have some S/F popsicles they won't count much towards water but they might/should make you feel better (your mouth is probably dry ) dehydration is not fun 37 lbs down is great sorry your problems have contributed/caused you to loose weight quickly hope you get relief soon from your gerd and all your other issues good luck kathy
  22. Thanks for sharing your story! I initially was dead set for sleeve but after speaking to my surgeon, he said I would have worsened reflux due to the high pressure it causes. I never really considered bypass out of fear. However, I did plenty of research, and grilled my surgeon with tons of questions. I also had 4 years of horrible daily heartburn and reflux and wasn't looking forward to that again. I didn't want to have the sleeve and have that problem because then I would have to revise to bypass. So ultimately I am choosing bypass and happy with my decision. I have tons of support. Have you considered some dates of your surgery yet? Any specific month? Regarding sugar...what about trying light Agave nectar? It is really yummy and doesn't cause a jump or drop in blood sugars.

@@YngGram - thank you for that information. Also congratulations on the loss and I hope you get approved for the revision!
  24. I currently have the sleeve and am revising to bypass on Friday; enough said about that. I truly wish I had the bypass in the first place. If you have acid reflux I believe your only option is the GB, good luck in your decision.
