  1. I am in the same boat....losing weight slow, I can eat a lot more now then before, not much restriction at all..... A little scared, I can eat a whole salad and a bowl if soup as a meal....
  2. I went through the same thing. I had a very hard time maintaining my weight. Because of other complications, my doctor told me he needed me to gain weight (even though I'm still overweight--204 before pregnancy). I couldn't do it with the band, no matter how hard I tried (and, believe me, I got SOOO tired of eating!! How weird is that!) At about 20 weeks, my band tightened and I couldn't even keep fluids down so I went in for an unfill. Well, turns out my port was flipped. They had to do surgery (no anesthesia!) to rectify the situation. I am now 26 weeks pregnant and have gained about 21 pounds. It's on the high side, but I'm not TOO worried yet. We'll see how I feel when I get closer to my due date (February 25th).

    Leaking Port!!

Hi So after a 41/2 years wait, I finally had my band done over a yr ago (Dr Nottle) and for about a year it hasnt been working. Have done all his tests for them to realise it is Leaking not by puncture but port fault (of course i have to get the dodgy one) So i go every 2 weeks have a fill of over 2mls each fill. Every fll it is removed and in 2 weeks i can loose anywhere from 2 mls most has been 5 mls in 3 weeks. So for past 6mths i have sat patiently waiting to have it fixed. 1stly band has a fault nothing i did so i am getting really peeved off im still waiitng. Has anyone else had same happen? How long did they wait etc, my weight is going up and if it doensnt happen soon i will be back at my start weight (......... It just isnt fair...
  5. I had surgery in 2005, lost about 30lbs after surgery, and now am 30+ pounds at my highest weight before surgery. Last fill 2006. Never went back because I am ashamed and don't think this is working for me. I am considering converting to full gastric bypass. What should I do call and go in for a fill? Make a consult appt with my surgeon? ( I really don't want to do this) I don't care for my surgeon. I am so discussed with myself. I think I need a heads up. Please advise. Thanks. Michelle

    Need help, lots of questions...

I don't like pain. Surgery is painful, and gastric bypasses are major surgery. If I were in your shoes, I would try to find another surgeon in my area who would be willing to take on another surgeon's patient. If I couldn't find one, I'd go back to my original doctor. You might get a disapproving look. You might not. Explain that you were discouraged and afraid, but now you're ready to do what you can to make the band work for you (but this part applies only if you are really ready). I'm newly banded, but I've done a lot of reading and have learned that fills are fickle things. The first one doesn't usually give restriction to people. I was told to expect four to six fills (or more!) before mine would be where I need it to be. Maybe one fill wasn't enough for you. Don't forget that nutrition is important, too! If your surgeon didn't give you instructions on how to eat after you were banded, do research or call your surgeon's office! There's a wealth of information available in this and other forums. Find a nutritionist who specializes in bariatric surgery. Exercise!! If I did all of this and the band still wasn't helping me, I would consider other surgeries, but not before. Mainly because of the anesthesia, cutting, and recovery time  Really, this is how *I* would approach it. You have to weigh your options and consider what is best for you. Lap-bands don't work for everyone; neither do bypasses. Sometimes it's because, for whatever reason, the particular method was incompatible with the patient's body. Sometimes it's because the patient cheated the system, which is possible with ANY weight loss procedure. You HAVE to follow the rules or you're not going to be successful. You HAVE to go to follow up appointments to make sure you're doing well and things are working as they should. *hugs* I understand feeling out of control and spiraling into a bad place. That's how I got to be 300 pounds. There came a time when I realized that what I was doing wasn't helping me at all. I had to pull myself up by my bootstraps (that was hard), admit to my mistakes (even harder), and decide what to do about the situation. It sucked! But I did it. And you can too. (Sorry for babbling and/or incoherency. I'm tired!)
  7. 30 pounds since June 3rd? That's fantastic! Like others have said everyone loses at their own rate. You can't compare your weight loss to others. Also, keep in mind you didn't put on your excess weight overnight, so you're not going to lose it overnight. Remember, slow and steady wins the race!

    Not Complaining But...

Got my band 12/21/11. First fill six weeks after I think to like 3cc I'll have to check I didn't paying attention it feels like forever. Then I had another 1/2cc every other month. My first real feeling of the band making me feel less hungry was at 3.5cc. But the 4cc was the real beginning of gradual weight loss. So I'm at 5.75 now. I was 267 size 24. I'm now 178 and some size 12's. I chose to make this weight loss slow, but it's going well with this most recent fill August 2. http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/w3x7zPz/

My prep from lap band to sleeve

Hello and welcome I too had the band lost some weight had issues eating anything healthy. 3 years ago I had the sleeve lost more weight but am having troubles keeping it off. I am now going to revise to the gastric bypass; I guess I should have had this surgery in the first place!! You are doing the right thing in tackling your weight issues and revise to another one. I think the band was a bad idea for most and you will read here that many revise. Best wishes to you

    Initial consult friday!!!! Nervous

My initial consult was a couple weeks ago. First they had me fill out a 300+ questionnaire for the psychologist. Then I was weighed/measured. Then the surgeon came in and talked to me about what surgery I was considering, asked if.i had questions, talked answered all questions, talked about general info about surgery, then I met with the dietician who talked about my history of weight loss/gain and overall history. She talked about getting prepared for surgery and informed me of the 2 week pre-op diet that I would have. Then the fun part. The psychologist. This guy sucked at his job, he concluded that I wasn't crazy! Lol but seriously he asked about a half hour of questions ranging from expectations of surgery, personal history, lifestyle, substance abuse etc.. Then I met with the nurse practitioner who talked about the process going forward and asked if I had dates in mind. Then they let me go home. It was a two and a half hour visit. Not too bad at all. Worst part was the dumb questionnaire! I actually took a picture to show my wife. Enjoy! Lol

    Am i the only one?

You are not alone. I know I must look different because others notice, and I've dropped three sizes (at least), but when I look in the mirror, I don't see much of a difference. For me, some of it is that I could never get used to myself at that super high weight, even though I was sure there for a long time! I wonder if in my mind's eye, I saw a somewhat slimmer person - similar to where I am now - what is considered just obese, instead of morbidly obese! Must be a coping mechanism, lol. Who knows!? Anyway, I see the scale moving, measurements shrinking, and the pile of clothes that are too big growing, but I'm still shocked when I get the realization that it's actually true - I am smaller! Gotta admit - it's always a pleasant surprise. Enjoy your success.

    Am i the only one?

I feel the same way! With clothes on man i see the weight is going away. Get naked in front of a mirror and the fat me is back! It wasn't till last week I did my second before and after picture since surgery that I saw I now have collar bones! Who knew?!? Brain fog doesn't clear for a while...

    So, how happy are you?

My happiness has grown with every pound lost. Before at 250+ lbs, I hid. I literally would try to compact myself on airplane seats, sit in chairs at an agle to try to appear smaller ,I avoided social outings with friends, I was tired all the time, embarrassed at my own size and had no energy. Now after shedding over 55 lbs, I feel like the possibilities are endless and only matched by my happiness. I didn't expect losing weight to solve all of my problems (need to hit the lotto for that). I expected losing weight to give me my life back and it has. I would say I am an 8.5/10.
  15. I'm so excited and just have to share the news that insurance has approved surgery! I have been going through all of the motions since January and am so excited! A little about me: I'm 46, mother of two kids (10 & 7), and I teach 6th grade. I had medullary thryoid cancer and my thyroid was removed in 2008. Even though my thyroid hormone levels are within range, weight has been a problem ever since the removal of my thyroid. Have I mentioned that I am SO EXCITED?!?
  16. When do you know when enough is enough. I'm so restricted that I can't eat much of anything solid, but I'm not losing weight. Lost almost 50 lbs in 5 mos, but I still have 15-20 lbs to go. Should I get fluid removed???
  17. Yesterday my boyfriend & I took my daughter to the zoo. It was her first time. We had a great time but about an hour into the trip I was so tired, my knees hurt, my back hurt, my feet were killing me, and I was so out of breath. I was disgusted with myself. My surgery is September 6th & I can wait !! I have lost some weight during these last few months which I am proud of but yesterday really made me feel bad. I want to be able to keep up with my daughter for future trips.
  18. Just a small scale victory, but somehow, while on vacation in Hawaii, I lost almost 7 lbs! Plus, I finally broke the 240 lb barrier, weighing in at 239.7 lbs! I felt like I ate a lot of junk food, but the truth is I wasn't eating much at all (too busy having fun to eat!) and most of it was Protein. That plus snorkeling and having fun in the sun all day means weight loss galore. So, thank you, sleeve, for making my vacation a weight loss success along with a vacation success! Now if I could just kick this stupid cold I picked up on the plane ride back (*grumble grumble kids who don't cover their mouths when they cough grumble*)
  19. I Just got my first appt in Feb to meet with the NUT and the PT, and see the NP. I am reading about all the pre diets you are required to do before your surgery.. I am exactly at 40 BMI if I lost a bunch of weight prior to surgery, wouldn't the insurance deny surgery because you are not in the BMI catagory required for the surgery? I am not sure if my program will consist of the 6 month supervised diet yet, but that seems like a person would lose a bit of weight and possibly be denied because of it dropping their BMI, has anyone ever had that issue? Thanks!

    What happens if?

They use the weight from your first visit to get your insurance verification normally. I was like you, I was just barely at 40 BMI; in fact if I had not worn heavy blue jeans, boots and had my cell phone in my pocket when they weighed me in the first time I am not sure that I would have made 40.
  21. So, I had my 6 week check in today and all is well. Weight loss is on track...27 lbs down. I do need to increase my calories. I've been around a thousand and the doctor and dietician would like to see me at 1200-1500, particularly before I start going to the gym. While I was there, I asked how long I needed to wait before I could have a glass of wine. I expected to hear 6 months to a year based on what others have posted. I was surprised when the dietician said that I could have started a couple weeks ago! Of course they gave the usual caveats...empty calories and take it slow to see how I react. Just thought I'd share since I know that question comes up a lot

    Need advice/words of encouragement....

I was banded a year ago this past September and I ahve done very well. However earlier in the year I had to get a bit unfilled due to a bulge that developed and then I was refilled but slowly, then in June I had the gallbladder removed and a week or so after that I had to get another unfill, yep broke my heart and I had to get a upper GI before the Dr. would fill me back up. Well he did this in July and all went well with the fill I am only at 5 cc in my 10cc band. I have not had any weightloss since May of this year and I just don't get it. I do watch what I eat and I exercise my butt off. I have weiged between 178-180 pounds for several months and this is getting old real fast and discouraging. I dropped from a size 26 to a misses size 12, yep a huge change and I need to drop another 20 pounds and I will be so happy. I still have restriction becuase I can feel it and sometimes I have to PB but not too often. I guess I need another fill but befopre doing so I want another upper GI to be sure that I am not obstrusted by another pouch, by another pouch developing on its own can cause a person not to lose weight, so I have ben told. So now what do I get a fill or try diet aides?

    High Protein Diet

Yeah, My Dr. has me on a High Protein. No Carb No Sugar Diet. Everyone on here know that No Carbs is impossible but that is just what he said my goal was. I eat a bunch of Meat. Mostly Chicken and Turkey. For being on the go you could always eat some processed Turkey or Ham slices. These aren't as good for you because they do contain some Carbs but most are less than 1 g a slice. There is also I think a Sliced Roast Beef that has No Carbs. I ate this alot. I have been on this diet for almost 2 months. Being a Male and over 400lbs the Dr is making me lose weight before the surgery.
  24. This news might start a stampede to the liquor store. Lol good job with the weight loss.

Time to Put Me to the Test!

((((((Spydr))))))) You're going to do GREAT. It's going to feel wonderful when you realize you can ride any ride you want to -- I have no doubt you'll be able to. I can't wait to hear all about it on Sunday! Please come back and post. We've all been there, whether on rollercoasters, airplane seats or movie theaters. But at your current size, there's no issue. I can't wait for you to believe that too! Congratulations on your weight loss.
