How long are you missing work?
Crisscat replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
FMLA is federal and it seems you met the criteria for working 12 months or 120 hours. Once approved you have up to 12 weeks you can use if memory serves. Please do Google it first tho and then go to work and ask them for FMLA paperwork to fill out so you have it to cover you in case you have any problems after your surgery. Its a good protection net for employees from employers that get pissy lol -

Possible stricture and the dressed foamies
Swinny replied to Swinny's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm glad to hear you got it fixed up. How long did it take for your surgeon to fix? It's been about two weeks for me and it just sucks. Even now in the hospital, they keep pushing back the date. Also, afterwards did you have to keep doing liquid or could you do pureed? Sent from my LE2125 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Possible stricture and the dressed foamies

My surgery was 3/10/22, had the same issue. My surgeon performed an endoscopy with a dilation. He inserted a small balloon and gentle open a specific area that was causing that same problem. I’m now able to eat some solid foods. Yay!! -
45 day post op /day 2 Phase 4 -still not hungry -taste is off
ErikaF posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I find it extremely difficult to eat as I am not hungry. Everything tastes bad, and I don’t enjoy eating. I have tried to eat but sometimes it hurts and I always get full. I am taking my multivitamin and calcium as required and drinking water and Premier Protein shakes-plus eating yogurt, mashed potatoes, sugar free popsicles, oatmeal, eggs and soup. Today I tried rotisserie chicken, quinoa, and one baby carrot (I was looking forward to it) and I ate a few bites chicken the entire carrot and 3 spoonfuls of quinoa. Meat of any kind tastes bad. I’m a bit scared - will it get better? My dilemma is now that I’m in the stabilization phase I am overwhelmed by the amount of food I have eat.- 11 replies

How long are you missing work?

I’m also an ICU nurse and also off for 10 days! I’m only missing 3 days total though due to how I lined it up. -
OMG the constipation is real

Just a heads up, may happen again (I want to say twice, but NOTHING like the first time….The new normal (every other day or so) started a few weeks after surgery. Now…normal (daily) if I’m walking a lot and getting fluids in. First few weeks of new things can be a doozy (wait until the hormones go all wacky!). After you settle in, things start to go back to normal, just eating a whole lot less! -
No, i wasn't "slender", i was regluar-to-overweight when I wore my original wedding dress from almost 20 yrs ago. See first link below....It's so funny because i went through ALL my wedding pictures just now and there is NOT ONE full body shot where I am NOT wearing that wrap or have a bouquet in front of me....I guess I must have already been conscious about my size at this weight...i'm guessing I was like 140-150 or something here, slightly overweight, but not obese...yet! The second link below is a a pic of me wearing said wedding dress I posted 3 years ago, about 4 months into maintenance.

Nothing tooooooo exciting here on the clothes front - Just a new lined rain coat (the lighter one from Florida was not holding up to the two weeks of rain, chill and overcast trip in central Pennsylvania + Philadelphia over Easter vacation. AND, Ms.sss, were you slender in your original wedding gown? Let's see a pic? I think a vow renewal for the new you would be WONDERFUL! This was chubby (size 14) me back in 1994. Oh well. ;[

I found so many of the broths so gross! Especially bone broths. I live on pho and was very happy. Don’t dread liquids too Much, one day at a time. It’s really not that bad. And it’s only a few weeks out of the whole process. You got this.

Its been a while since I’ve posted any OOTD’s on here…part laziness, part no new real shopping done in months. So…looking to wake up this thread and bring it back to its former glory when it was a trending topic for months (remember that??) As it is, it remains one of my faves threads on here (this and the Food Before and After thread!) Sooooo… here we go: for those who know me, I LOVe to try on wedding dresses (been trying to convince Mr. to marry me again for forever, but that’s another story, lol). On a recent mini-vacay a couple weeks ago, i did just that at nowhere other than Klienfelds, NY of Say Yes to the Dress fame! And no, Randy was not there, hahahha. I tried on maybe 10-ish dresses, but this one was my fave. Price tag: $6500 USD if you’re wondering (and no, i didn’t buy it, nor do i plan to, it was just for funsies!!). Now your turn!!! I wanna see some clothes please!

I guess the subject says it all! I have my follow-up with the doctor this week, so I’m sure I could ask then, but I’m just curious what you guys have done. Seems like a good idea, net carbs are low and I could add protein powder. Any reason this might be a bad idea?

Will I ever have my favorites again ??
Esi replied to PM2022's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The first few weeks are so hard. Not only is your whole food outlook changed, but you are at the most limiting point after surgery that you will ever be. It gets so much better! I did weigh and measure in the first few months, but now I can eyeball things. With the exception of no added sugar, nothing is off-limits. So when my family gets fast food, I eat a few of my children’s fries. Yet somehow because of the surgery, that is enough to satisfy me. No deprivation. Not having sweets and desserts became hard after a few months (The first few months, I had so much artificial sweetener that it made me sick). So, I found sugar free Russell Stover chocolates, as well as sugar-free Lilly’s brand. When I want something sweet, I reach for these, and a small amount satisfies me. I don’t miss cake, pie, brownies, etc. anymore. I don’t drink alcohol or coffee, but I use decaffeinated tea. -
Yes! Shipping typically takes about a week, and I place an order every 4 to 6 weeks to buy enough to get free shipping. I also buy items on sale, and have points earned to take $5 to $10 off each order. I have used both the ProCare and Bariatric Pal vitamins with iron. Capsules one a day. Both great. Chewables nasty. Patches weren’t recommended by my nutritionist. Also Bariatric Pal calcium chews. They taste like chocolate caramel Starburst. They feel like a dessert. Also Syntrax protein powders. I have not had problems with items being out of stock. And one time, a protein powder arrived that had broken open during shipping. They sent a new one.

Granted your faces are blurred, but based on everything that is visible in the pic, it looks like 3 teenagers!!! Looking good!!!

My hell week starts tomorrow (April 26th)

@colocoral, I think a lot of surgeons still do the liquid/clear fluids diet because it shrinks the liver so significantly and makes surgery that much easier. 🤷🏼♀️ Anything that makes my surgery safer is doable for me. Thank goodness it’s only 1 week. -
Will I ever have my favorites again ??
ms.sss replied to PM2022's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Mandatory Disclaimer: this is what i did, and the results/side effects are particular to me. YMMV. With that said: Im 3.5 years out. If I wanted to, i could forgo weighing and measuring food to avoid physical discomfort…i have long since learned what my stomach likes/dislikes and how much it can hold at a time. BUT i still measure/weigh because i’m a serial food tracker/logger cuz that’s just how i roll. Its not for everyone, but its just part of everyday life for ME. Beer and Coffee: I don’t drink beer (never did), but i do drink hard liquor. I had less than 10 partial drinks during my 7 month weight loss phase, but am now a regular drinker…some may say too much, but whatevs. Coffee, i served at the hospital, and i went back to my at least daily thermos of coffee at around 1 month post op. Also, i started drinking my fave sparkling water again around the same time. I probably drink about 5-6 litres of it a week. Fave food eating: I can honestly say there is nothing that I don’t eat IF i want to eat it. Alcohol? Check. Desserts? Check. Chips? Check. Fried foods? Check. Mind u there are alot of things that WERE my faves and ate alot of pre-op that just don’t register much anymore. I’m looking at you, rice and pasta. I barely eat (nor want) rice anymore…basically only if its sushi. Same goes for pasta and bread…i mostly only eat it if Mr. makes it, and we are talking like once every couple of 1-2 months. The volume of what i consume of my “faves” though is like a fraction of what I consumed pre-op, but thats just fine with me…its all about taste anyway, not about stuffing myself. —————— All this works for ME, and may or may not be your experience as well…you won’t know until you know. P.S. I’ve been maintaining below goal weight this entire time, so i must be doing something right! 😇 -
How long are you missing work?

I am about to be at 4 weeks and I am fighting for more time off through short term disability. I am so tired I can’t imagine working 8 hours straight. I am hoping to get more time off. Could I do it? Probably. But not well. -
Its just your head. regardless you should be following your surgeons guidelines with food. you should be on liquids only for about 2 weeks after surgery. Most important is getting in those 60 grams of protein and your fluids to heal properly.

Yesterday I had scrambled eggs, a strawberry banana protein shake, 3oz salmon and 1/3 cup shredded cooked zucchini.

Possible stricture and the dressed foamies
eclarke replied to Swinny's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hey we are Bariatric twins! My surgery was on 3/29 too! Having some of the same issues, hope you take care of the stricture! Yeah, if I try something that upsets my stomach, its back to the shakes, it has become almost a comfort food now, since I also kinda hate eating. I have been assured by the helpful people on this website, and my doctor that by three months things will be much better and eating will be less burdensome. Its a journey.. -

Ok, so today is day 6 of my liquid diet, and while it definitely still sucks, I can say it's not as bad as it was days 1-3. I can vouch for the others that said by day 4 it starts to be a little less crappy and by day 5 you actually start to get used to it. Today it's not really bothering me, other than I can smell my daughter's pizza in the microwave and my mouth is literally watering (I would give almost anything for a piece of the peperoni on top LMAO). I really didn't believe the posts I saw that said you actually start to adapt lol I thought ya'll were messing with me, but lo and behold, it was actually true!!!!! My surgery is Tuesday and I absolutely CANNOT wait!!!! Shockingly, I'm not nervous at all. I thought I would be at this point, but no. Is that even normal? LOL -
Best wishes and good luck to all the May surgeries going this week!!!!! Don’t forget to update! Sending healing wishes to everyone!❤️

Crisscat replied to Vsgbethany22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow! I guess it really does boil down to what we are capable of tolerating early on, My dieticians are very strict with only fluids post op for 2 weeks. They dont even want us to try anything until post op 3 weeks.
