Congratulations on the band!!! I got banded 3/14 ANd although I was told I could drive after a week, I still felt disconfort so I did not drive until last friday. I guess it will depend on how fast you feel fine to sit straight and turn your upper body slightly when you drive. While I was home I slept a lot and I think that helped for my recovery, started walking around a little bit, and spent time cathing up in my reading. For the ticker: you need to add the url to your signature.

You know, I'd assumed that I'd be a big loser :-) mainly because of my size and starting weight of 6'1 356lbs. I've seen the big guys whopping numbers and said maybe i'll lose half of that (like 15 to 17) in the first week or two..never did I expect such a high number and in only 6 days post op! Do I see it? Hardly, do I feel it? No but I am soooo happy about it.

I've been kinda watching my resting heart rate because it's a good measure of how your health is improving (or not!). In the past few years like when I take my BP at home or at the dr's office, I've never noticed a heart rate below about 72. I've measured it the last 3 nights and am getting readings in the high 50's and low 60's!! I suppose it's a result of my recent love affair with exercise....but WOW....so soon and with such good results?? I've only been at it about 6 weeks! Lets see.... 10 beats/min = 600 beats/hr 600 beats/hr = 14,400/day 14,400/day = 5,256,000/year 5,256,000/year x 30 years = 157,680,000 heartbeats saved Hmmm...I think I just added 6 years to my heart's life! :biggrin1: Could that be right??

I just made my own last week for my husband.. since we had a fresh basil plant. Mmm I used the fresh mozz. too and a little sauce. Really good and thin/crisp. I used a pillsbury pizza dough from the dairy aisle and it was okay. But I'll bet a homemade one is even better. Gonna check it out, thanks!

Is drinking worth it on the sleeve? I used to drink quite a bit pre sleeve I think to fill empty voids in my life. Work was one stress after another when we did not know if the company would be around in a week due to the horrid economic conditions. Fortunately, I am in a much bigger and more stable company now. My point is, why not find some other ways to fill the empty voids? I was not always a drinker before the sleeve. In fact, it came on just a few years ago. One cocktail turned into a beer every day turned into quite a bit of hard liqueur. I am so glad to be done with that. It was just cold turkey. i decided not to be that person any longer. yes, There are days when I still look over at my liqueur stash ( my wife still drinks), but I hardly want it any more. The old head desires sometimes come back, but I am a new person now with a much brighter and new outlook on life. I am just trying to offer an opinion from my point of view. You can take it or leave it. If it helps you, then great.

Mine was 10 and they gave me prescription vitamin d, which you take once a week (weird, right?). Only brought it up slightly so they refilled the prescription. It had NO effect on surgery date. they just said I might need vitamin d injections down the road. Good luck!

You are all so right! I need to take this all in stride...usually I can handle set backs. I leave for Las Vegas three days after this fill, which is my anxiety of being too restricted ( don't mind softer foods but I don't want to be sick like I see in these forums). Ok I said it. On the other hand my goal is the green zone. I'll continue my workouts and healthy eating and stay away from scale...limit calories and maintain portion size. Again thank you all for the encouragement.

I just had a 0.5cc unfill. So I hear your anxiety. All we can do is count on our good habits that we have developed to keep us moving forward. Don't concentrate on the scale. Our focus should be on our health. How is your blood pressure? Your sugar? Your cholesterol? There are other methods of measuring success. Being banded is a lifetime journey to make our health better. It is NOT just about the scale. Yes, we want the weight gone, and we want it gone yesterday, but that isn't always going to happen. This is a marathon, not a sprint. It is time to change your battle plan for the time being. Adjust your outlook. As obese people, we ALWAYS fear regain. Hasn't it happened every other time we've gone on a diet? We don't exactly have track records of success to help calm us down. But we didn't have our bands to help us in the long run. Over the course of your lifetime, Augsut 3, or 3 weeks, is miniscule. You will get through it. After my unfill, I was able to schedule a refill for July 16, now I have to travel for work that week, so I have to reschedule..ugh... I REALLY am right there with you!

Does The First Fill Make The Difference??
wildrose1966 replied to Mandylove's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are doing great. Didn't notice anything different after the first or the second fill. Starting back to the gym regularly and counting my calories is helping, but unfortunatly not my band right now. 3rd fill is in 2 weeks. It is a marathon not a sprint. Congrats on the loss. -
I had terrible constipation after being banded, it lasted over a week. I did feel much better when I was able to go. I guess it goes to show that when you are on liquids ther is nothing to come out. I have no trouble with burping, I have had the hiccups lots too. Good luck to you!! Bernadette

4 weeks of liquid only? I'm assuming optifast are shakes. I really don't think I could do that! Bless your heart!

Juicing suggestions and time off

That's exactly why the nurse said another week. She said my energy level will be very very low. Thanks or the comments! I am going to talk to my supervisor tomorrow. -
Juicing suggestions and time off

I am thinking of taking three weeks and then coming back 1/2 time for a week or two depending on how I feel. I am a little worried about pushing myself to get back and not taking the time to mentally adjust before going back to a stressful work environment. I have enough benefit time to take 12 weeks if I need to. -

Thx kindle and sunkist..... I guess my question should have been purée recipes. As for work, though I'm big, I'm very active and think I can do the 1 week off and 1 week from home with some restrictions. Thx again!!! -

I went back to a very active job after 1 week. Due to the holidays and weekends it was 2 days on, two days off, two days on, two days off then normal 6 day weeks after that. I am a vet tech and on my feet, bending, squatting, lifting, holding all day. We had to make some scheduling changes to accommodate my lifting restrictions (no more than 20 pounds) so no big dog surgeries for 3 weeks. I was on full liquids, so I just had to make sure I brought plenty of Protein shakes, but had no problems working. As for juicing, there have been other threads that discuss that this may not be the best thing. Juicing removes too much of the good stuff included the Fiber, which you will already be lacking on the high protein postop diet. -

Thx for the comment.....that's the thing I don't have that much leave and a I'm scheduled to go out of town in October and February and was trying not to use up too much leave. If need be after the first week I can call my manager and let her know I need another week.. Thanks again! -
I had pain from my fatty liver diseae for years but it has gotten much more frequent and more painful since my surgery. I visited my surgeron today and they did a CT and blood work. Everything came back normal so I got, "Just keep following the diet and we will see you at your five week follow up appointent." Has anyone else dealt with this? How did you cope with the pain? It is horrible and it makes it hard to function day-to-day.

Has anyone heard of/been to Dr. Sewell in Southlake, Texas? I'm going for my initial consult with him next week, but was curious if anyone had any opinions or info. about him?

I started to have food dreams during my two week liquid pre op phase. I still get them sometimes now and I am six weeks post op. The last dream was like a Twilight Zone episode. This huge five tiered chocolate cake appeared on the kitchen counter out of nowhere. I plunked it into the garbage bin outside and it camp back mysteriously in my bedroom, looking even more magnificent. I kept thinking of creative ways to destroy it and it always came back looking more magnificent and tempting. I woke up a real groach that morning. People who try to stay off drugs experience something similar, except they call it "drug dreams.". It's interesting how giving up sugar can be so similar to someone giving up a narcotic.

@@finediva Your right, I am probably going to bed so I don't have to think about food....but ironically as I said in my initial post...I am actually exhausted. My primary put me on Celexa for the anxiety and Medformin for diabetes...it's only 2nd week into the meds, perhaps it's early side affects of introducing these meds to my system. Time will tell, thank you all for your responses.

Pain When Taking A Deep Breath
dwiley56 replied to Linda.K's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I experienced the same thing and found out my gallbladder wasn't working correctly. Had my gallbladder removed 2 weeks ago. -
Well I have finally got over the need to weight everyday. I guess I realize that I'm not going to lose very fast and weighting everyday just depressed me. I going next week to the doctor so will see how I'm doing then. I don't know if I want another fill or not. I do have trouble eating chicken, beef, and pork, it seem to want to set and spin in my stomach. I don't know if I'm not chewing well enough or if I'm eating to big a bites. I still don't do well in the am, I usually don't eat anything till lunch. I do protien shakes in the morning. Evening is still my biggest problem time of the day. I could eat a bear most of the time. My portions size is still way to big. Thats the one thing that makes me think I need another fill. I will have to talk with them next week and see what they think. Oh well need to get some things done today, Christmas is going to sneak up on me if I don't get busy.
-
I think I am going to do 2 shakes first thing today just to make sure I get a majority of my protein. My problem this weekend was that I was so busy cleaning and getting ready for my 5 and 6 year olds birthday party. I swear I was on the go nonstop for 2 days straight. The good news is that I am 4 weeks post op and down 30 pounds!!!!!

KMBkaters02 replied to HopefulOne!!'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck - I will also cross my fingers for you!! I am in the same boat. Been almost 3 weeks for me and I am still waiting. this by far has been the hardest thing yet to do. And I was a smoker - had to quit.
