So I am having my revision from sleeve to gastric bypass on Friday in Tijuana with Dr Zavalza. Right now can't say that I am nervous or anxious just relaxing and preparing for my flight to San Diego tomorrow. Wish me the best and welcome me to the new "GB losers bench".

female only Wedding is 12/5 - Surgery Date is 10/5 - ...How much weight could I lose?
betrthnever posted a topic in The Gals' Room
Hi Ladies, OK my surgery date is October 5, 2015 (yeah!) and my wedding date is December 5, 2015 - exactly 2 months!! I'm having a revision from the band to the bypass. I realize that the dress I have now will have to be scrapped as I will probably lose too much as it is full of beads and appliques - way too expensive to pay the seamstress to re-do...but I will need to find another wedding dress soon! How much could I potentially lose if following all the rules? I understand that weight loss varies depending on so much. My BMI is at 38 now. I understand that the loss might not be as fast the 2nd time and with a lower BMI. Any thoughts or experiences? I didn't have rapid lost at all with the band so I don't know what to expect. Thank you! -

Losing the fight, Help !

Have you been going in for appointments? It's probably worth it to make sure something isn't wrong with your sleeve, because it sounds like you may not have the same restriction you had early on. Stretching may occur, and eventually re-sleeving could be a possibility, if not an RNY revision, as you seem to have trouble with carbs. Are you getting all the recommended Protein? Doing this is probably the simplest and most effective way to stave off carb cravings. Also, stop and make sure you aren't consuming slider foods as part of regular intake. Don't lose your confidence! -
learning to eat/drink again
James Marusek replied to jennylew's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It can be hard to eat (and drink) after surgery. This should get better as your body heals. Remember to chew, chew, chew when you get into the solid stage. I found that softer foods (Soups and chili) went down smother than harder food such as steaks. One of the men in our bariatric surgery support group meetings had a lapland revision to a RNY gastric bypass because his band was eating into his stomach and had to be removed. Because of the scar tissue that had built up, his new pouch was a little smaller than most RNY patients. Therefore it was a little difficult for him at the beginning with the volume of food per meal. But he turned out well. -

Decisions on surgery type
Djmohr replied to luvhermitcrabs's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The bypass is the gold standard for WLS. I would suspect that your surgical team will have no problem with your choice. Any surgeon that pushes you toward a surgery better be able to explain very clearly why that is the best surgery for you. Otherwise get a new surgeon. I was originally going for the sleeve and after much discussion with both my surgeon and a gastroenterologist it was determined that bypass was the better surgery for me. This was specifically because I had severe reflux and the sleeve could make this worse for me which could have resulted in a second surgery to revise to bypass anyway. -
Did anyone feel pressure by surgeon to so bypass instead of sleeve
Dream4tc replied to Mayastone's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wasn't pressured. I initially wanted the sleeve, but I have been banded before and he took 45 minutes to discuss the sleeve with me and explained the risks because of my previous band. He told me that the sleeve would make my reflux and heartburn worse due to the high pressure it causes. I had been taking Zantac max strength and Prilosec both twice a day plus tums , milk and slept with 8 pillows at night for nearly 4 years so ....no thanks. I would rather not have any more heartburn or make it worse. I went back to him to discuss bypass after researching it on my own. He spent another 45 minutes talking with me about this and answered every question that I had. I have never once felt pressured. Bypass can be reversible, but if you are sleeved, your stomach is gone forever. If I hadn't had previous WLS, and if I was choosing for the first time, I would have chosen sleeve. But because of my weakened stomach from the previous band, and scar tissue, bypass is a better option, less chance for leaks and less complications for me. Research and gather as much info as you can to educate yourself. If you are new and not getting revision, go for the sleeve. But if you have had previous WLS before then consider bypass. Best of luck to you! -

Questions about weight loss surgery
betrthnever replied to ktscott's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
As a veteran bander (banded in 2008) I would personally not get the band again. I feel that the band is not a permanent solution and now that it is not a popular surgery it will be harder to find a Dr. to service the band if you move. Please remember that the band is like owning an expensive sports car. There's a lot of tune up and maintenance involved. The band has worked for some tho. Also, if you have a reflux issue then sleeve isn't a good option, either. I will be having a revision to a bypass in early October. -
Hi All. I am 4 wks. post op. Just got the ok to advance to soft foods. I am still having trouble drinking let alone eating. Not sure what I am doing wrong but it feels like I always have something stuck and hurts for a few minutes. Should I be waiting so many seconds or minutes between sip and bites of food? I am a revised lap band patient so i am used to being able to drinking swigs of liquid. i am trying to take small sips, but it feels like it's just sitting down there and needs to come back up. I follow up with my surgeon Thursday, but could use some advice today.

Nervous about Sleeve to RNY revision
SleeveandRNYchica posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
So after the months of meeting insurance requirements, I have a tentative date of 10/7/15 for my RNY. My sleeve surgery was 10/1/12. I went into the sleeve so prepared mentally, physically and emotionally. I followed the rules post sleeve, exercised went to all NUT visits etc. I have had some unexpected complications post pregnancy that has lead me to thus revision. I am nervous about have another stomach surgery after 2 sections and a sleeve. The preparation for my first surgery (2 week liquid diet) was tough but I made it through. I am SO not looking forward to that! I had a really easy recovery time with my sleeve with no complications. I hoping for a similar outcome. I think it's the possible complications that scare me. It's the fact I have already altered my insides once! I am just talking out loud. But I wonder how others that have revised whether from lapband or sleeve have felt about having to go through a second surgery. How did you handle your apprehensions? -

SLEEVE TO BYPASS REVISION
SleeveandRNYchica replied to MissLaLa05's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I lived abroad and had my surgery abroad so they do things a bit different. So for my revision FepBlue required - psych exam, weight history since having sleeve, 3 month preop diet. Look in the fep book it is all outlined. I started the process in April, but I had to have some other tests done and they found some issues with my sleeve. So honestly I probably could have been done In Sept. -

Does anyone feel pressured by surgeon to have the bypass (instead of sleeve)
Titaniumsleeved2014 replied to Mayastone's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Band to sleeve in one surgery. Who's had it done that way? How long had you had your band? What was your recovery like? Any complications? Regrets?

Having my revisions, band to sleeve tomorrow. Very nervous and anxious. My fiance is freaking out too!! Pre-op diet has been ok, shrink the liver and all that, and BONUS - lost 10 lbs. We'll see how I feel Thursday, but I feel confident that I'm doing the right thing for me. Didn't know the band had a shelf life! Had mine done in 2006. Lost 50lbs, but gained it all due to "unfills" from obstructions. Hoping there is no internal issues when they get in there to take it out. Port hurts a lot most of the time. Will be very glad to get rid of that!! Hugs to all! -
Ulcer after Gastric Bypass?

Revision to what a sleeve? -
I was diagnosed with an ulcer a month ago (I think it is called a marginal ulcer) after having and Endoscopy. I was put on three meds and tomorrow I have a follow-up Endoscopy. if it is still there and or no better, I will be put on three new meds and then another Endoscopy in another month. If it is not better after that Endoscopy, we are looking a revision surgery. Anyone else have or has had this? My surgeon didn't want to go into what the revision would be. I have not been able to find any information online.

Surgery in September
betrthnever replied to Jenaenae84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Toasty, that was definitely an incomplete thought LOL Yes, I'm being revised from a band to a RNY.. I am getting married in December and I didn't know if I should wait until December or have it right away (in September). Decided that I'm not going to risk losing the approval and will have it in September. There is also the thought of forever losing my ability to eat what I want. The very thing that got me here in the first place. I remember grieving for food when I was banded and I'm sure it will even be worse with this new surgery. But I will move forward with this. -
@@betrthnever It looks like you are considering a revision from Lap-Band to RNY. Is that correct? If so, why? I ask because you say you are on the fence, and I am assuming you mean you are on the fence about getting the revision to RNY.

Band to Sleeve and other questions!
NoMoBand replied to iamshazza's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Drewr, I had my revision in May, so, I am approaching my 4th month. I feel great! I had the lapband 4 years and can report that the differences between the lapband and sleeve are substantial. I don't miss the getting stuck episodes if I didn't chew my food well, with the band then the slimming or upchucking that followed, measuring my meals assuring that I didn't overeat, the night coughs when I would wake up choking cause I either ate too late or it could be a symptom of something gone wrong with the band, the foaming that I'd spit out continuously when my allergies were at their worst, pain in my port area if I put too much pressure on the torso area, the feeling that everything was about to explode with upchucking due to a bout of stomach flu or food poisoning, the worries that my band could erode into my stomach or the band could slip at any time, ending up in the emergency room and the ER staff not knowing what to do with a lapband patient, the fills and unfills, the uneasy mental feeling of having a plastic device and tubing inside my body, the constant fear of band removal due to complications etc. Sure there are issues and concerns with the sleeve, but, far less than the band and so far I am a very content recipient of the sleeve. The very best with sleeve is I don't have to measure my meals. When your banana shaped stomach is filled, that's it and no more! The only down side for me is that some sleeved patients will develop heartburn and I'm one of them. It's very minor and nothing that Pepsid AC doesn't take care of. Doctor tells me that this may very well go away. So far, I have no regrets! I feel very privileged to have experience both band and sleeve and again by far I recommend the sleeve over lap band! Pardon all my repeats from my previous responses to this post, but, this last one has a bit more detail that I wanted to share with Drewr. I made a promise that I would never bash the band system because it saved and changed my life and I'm very grateful for it, however, I will share the truths and differences between the two and of course these are the truths that apply to me and my journey. Hope this helps. jake -
If you went to mexico for your gastric sleeve surgery, who was your doctor and how much did it cost?

How much would it be here for a sleeve revision? I had a sleeve 2009. Lost 40 pounds. Gained 30 of it back.
