I had my 4th fill 2 weeks ago when i went into my Dr.'s office and had only lost 2lbs. i am now filled with 2.5cc in a 10cc band. My restriction is good but i CAN NOT eat breakfast. I can only drink a protein shake or smoothie and sometimes get away with a yogurt or cottage cheese. Yet, as my day goes on i am able to eat more solid food and soups with pieces in them, and by the end of the day i can get in apx. 3 oz of meat and 2 oz. of veggies. Does anyone else have this daily constriction problem ?

June 14, 2008 Down 4 pounds in 24 hours is quite amazing to me, however, I realize that the pounds are going to just drop off here at first. Yesterday was my first day on a Pre-Op two week diet. I had 1 Slim Fast Optima, 1 Weight Control Quaker Oatmeal, a serving of grapes, 1/2 an apple, 1 can of vegetarian vegetable soup, one 8 oz glass of skim milk with a packet of Carnation Instant Breakfast (no sugar added) mixed in, and 1 cup of no-fat cottage cheese. Oh and of course plenty of water, which I love. Actually, it wasn't so bad. I kept myself busy with reading, computer work, laundry. That's the key. I need to redirect my life. I'm looking into starting my own web site so that will take some time. This morning I got up at 7:00 and took a walk with the dogs. We walked down to the pond, which is a little ways away, downhill. The dogs loved the water and romped and played. So they got their exercise too. The trudge back up the hill was a killer, but I know it will get easier with time. If I consider my alternatives, (heart attack, stroke, diabetes, death), I rather like this hiking up and down hills. The Slim Fast tasted better this morning: Strawberry Cream, which I thought would be delicious, turns out NOT to be. Plus I had a yogurt, Activia, which I didn't get in yesterday. All the foods I mentioned are all that I will eat for the next two weeks. This was given to me by the dietitian. Why, I bet I lose 20 pounds even before surgery! The dietitian explained to me that the reason for this diet is to help the liver to lose weight. Fatty tissue built up around the liver is not good and hinders absorption of proper nutrients. I know there is more to it than that. I will need to research that again. So, I'm off and running. Well, actually, not running yet. That will come later, I hope.

Hello so sorry you feeling this way. I had gastric bypass in Decemeber 2015. A month later had a bowel obstruction and been dilated 3 times and may require a major 3rd Surgury. I also have a picc line and been on it since July 7, 2016. I get TPN every evening after work for 12 hours. I haven't been able to keep food down and I vomit a lot. I do have few days I am ok but it's not easy. My advice to you is to please chew chew chew your food and early slowly. You will get better. Don't give up. I been hospitalize 6 times since December and it's been stressful but being positive will help you. It's normal for you to regret the Surgury because I also felt the same way but trust me you did the right thing. This is temporary. You will get better. Try to avoid meats and corn and high fiber food , salads for now. Stay on soft foods, protein shakes, oatmeal, yogurt, carnation instant breakfast, chicken , cooked vegetables, soups. This is what I was told by the nutritionist. You Amy want to see one also. If you need any other suggestions or have questions, please feel free to ask.

I don?t understand my band!
michellehoeffel replied to Hopes of a Dream!'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do have days like that. On the days that I am tight, I will try to stick to softer foods (yogurt, eggs, chili, etc). Mornings everyday is not good for me. I am so tight that sometimes liquid takes time to go down. With that I just stick with Protein shakes. You will learn to know the band, it just takes time. -
Hey glad your surgery went well!! Well mines went great besides the two nights I spent in the hospital i had a bad reactions to the anesthesia well a normal one i'm guessing I was puking for a day and a half, couldn't keep anything down so i was on iv fluids until I left on Thursday. I'm still having a hard time getting my fluids and Protein in, I've prob had 2 cups fluids and 1oz Greek yogurt and that's staying home all day watching the clock and trying to sip an oz Atkins advantage all day long. i got down 7 ounces but the day is over and I only have gotten a minimal amounts of 20/60 grams of protein.. 16/64 oz of fluids... I'm getting stressed should i not be worrying about it at this time? Sleeve2B Hope all went well in Mexico!!

First check-up after sleeve surgery
Arabesque replied to Losewate's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It can be a bit challenging to find foods that won’t upset you. So sorry you had such a dramatic reaction to your first non liquid meal. Many think yay, real food & try to purée foods that their tummy can’t tolerate yet. Go slowly. Remember you are still healing. Try thicker soups first. I was allowed very soft scrambled eggs, rolled oats, yogurt & I found them easier to eat to begin I think because they were more bland & less stressful on my tummy. Just make sure your purées are still pretty sloppy. Only being able to eat very small portions is very common - think 1/4 - 1/3 cup. You’re eating denser food now & they take longer to digest than liquids which go through your tummy very quickly so you get full much more quickly. Personally, I still find mashed potatoes too heavy to eat - they sit like a lump in my tummy but every one is different in what they can tolerate. Good luck & congrats on your surgery. -
I was also banded December 11th. I went for my post op check 12/18/08. Found out I had a hernia which he repaired when he put the band on. I've done really well. I had lost 12 pounds. I'm on creamed soups, yogurt, and protein shakes. I go for my first fill on January 22nd. Continued success for everyone.

I am on the "band-wagon" Not sure if I am in the green zone, but I am doing fine where I am and happy to stay here. I am glad the holidays are over so I can get back to my healthy routines. As for staying warm..LOL these temperatures are crazy. I hear we are on par with Siberia and colder than the North Pole! Julie, I had that too. It does get better, but I remember it was so painful to move/get up and down. I believe it is because they stitched that port deep into the muscle (don't take my word for it)? By the 2nd week I felt much better and kept getting better and better each day. I did go through a sort of post-op depression and regret stage. I have read that is common with all your body has just gone through, so be ready for that if it comes, it will also pass quickly. I promise you will feel back to normal again soon! Soon, you can enjoy cream Soups, yogurt drinks and Protein drinks!

Losing Fast Enough? & Other Questions
Andre Garcia posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone, This is my first post. I had surgery on 11/14/16 and have wondered if my weight is coming down fast enough, and if not, how I could increase the amount of weight loss or should have concerns. I know that losing weight more slowly could give my skin a better chance of keeping up with my changing body, but I can't help but wonder if I am doing something wrong. I already know I can increase my Water intake (getting 32-64oz water per day). I'm in my 3rd stall and noticed it happened when I started eating "regular" food again (after the puree phase). The stalls drive me nuts, especially since they seem to be lasting from 3-7 days. At six weeks post-op, I am at 303.2 pounds, down from a day-of-surgery weight of 334, or an average weight loss of 5.13 pounds per week. I have read using multiple sources that weight loss varies between 5 to 15 pounds per week. I am wondering: what is the difference between those that lose 5 pounds per week versus those that lose 15 pounds per week? If your rate of loss is faster than mine, what are you eating, how much water are you getting per day, how much are you really exercising per day/week, and do you have any other medical factors that might be contributing to your faster weight loss? Also, I have a few other questions: At this phase of my diet, I'm supposed to be eating 3 meals a day and not drinking Protein shakes anymore. Is anyone out there still relying on shakes to get the additional protein? I feel like 3 meals a day doesn't give me the minimum 60 grams of protein I'm supposed to have per day. Also, I have started weight lifting and believe I need more protein than my diet specifies. I noticed I had a tough time with ham, barbecue pork, and asparagus...I get a tight feeling in my pouch even if I chew these down to nothing. Is the pain I feel really the food trying to pass into my small intestine? Seems like some foods like greek yogurt go down really easily while others, no matter how much you chew, cause discomfort. Knock on wood: nothing has made me throw up yet, but at times I feel a little sick when I haven't eaten in a while. I have not experienced dumping syndrome yet. I am wondering if the daily probiotic I am taking is helping reduce the risk of adverse effects. Are you taking a probiotic? Have you noticed any benefits? Sorry everyone...I know this is a long post, but since it's my first, I have so much on my mind. Thank you, Andre- 6 replies

Mushies/Pureed - What are YOU eating in this stage?
make33 replied to morningoasis811's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here's some other suggestions from my list of Phase II foods: Yogurt, low fat cottage cheese pureed, egg beaters pureed, oatmeal, cream of wheat, cream of rice, farina, grits, mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, mashed winter squash, juices (low sugar), applesauce, pureed peaches pears and pineapple, pureed carrots green Beans and squash and sugar free hot cocoa (in Pa. this time of year we need it!) My surgeon even permitted tuna salad and egg salad! There is also a chicken broth flavor whey Protein isolate that is really very good (and unflavored to add to s/f puddings and jello) that is offered at Welcome to the unjury Homepage I am officially off phase II tomorrow, with my first fill, but I must admit I've been pretty satisfied with this phase! (So-o-o much better than liquids~!) -
No banded yet--question about eating "real" food
Jpet replied to Pnw_Red's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have to be honest -- Protein shakes are very helpful in the beginning because they go down very easily and provide protein, nutrients and carbs. I can't imagine what I would have eaten in the very beginning of post-op if I hadn't had my shakes. That being said, I didn't opt for the completely carb-less shakes. I used a soy protein blend and mine had carbs and averaged about 300 calories each (mainly because I made them with milk). The important thing is that I felt fine and I was eating what I felt was less "fake." Now, I'm onto the mushy phase and haven't had a protein shake yet in this phase. I typically eat egg salad, hummus, chicken salad, tuna salad, mashed potatoes, refried Beans, fresh fish (sole and tilapia) and yogurt. I could probably stand to eat more vegetables, but I feel that right now I'm making good food decisions and am able to eat real food that isn't overly processed. I, too, take a multivitamin (Viactiv chewables). -
It's hard. I'm six days out myself. The Protein drinks aren't pleasant. Try them over ice (makes it easier for me). It takes me close to two hours to do a Protein Drink. I can eat about two ounces right now. I stop as soon as I feel discomfort or start burping. I'm already sick of sweet, so I concentrate on savory flavors for my food. I've had broth from Thai Tom Yum Kha Soup, cream of wheat with Greek yogurt and some dill and seasoned salt (tastes like tzatziki sauce), and some other cream-based soup. This is all on the "full liquids" part of my diet. I don't move on to purée for another week. My advice is to take tiny bites (1/4 tsp), just dip the tip of your spoon in and eat that. It helps to slow you down. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How many meals & how much can u eat ?
Holly5.3 replied to SA Ramirez's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
6 months out tomorrow and I am very restricted with solid proteins. I would say a little less than a 1/2 a cup of solid food is what I can manage. Smooth textures like yogurt, velvety mashed potatoes, pureed fruits and cooked veggies give me more volume. I miss my salad greens and chicken. I can literally eat 3 small bites of a salad. If so much as a piece of lettuce goes down without being totally chewed to oblivion-it makes me feel too full and I can't eat another bite of anything. Its funny, when you learn all you can post-op (I watched hours of videos on U-Tube of sleevers cooking, eating, explaining and describing a post-op diet) but it still doesn't hit you until you are experiencing it yourself, you just can't eat a lot. Period. I look forward to my stomach stretching a bit so I can eat more at mealtime (especially when dining out and you're finished eating when everyone is still on appies!) But I fit into a size 14 today, from a 24, so.....bye-bye salad and chicken (for now at least!). -
OMG! I so know what you mean, my partner would actually bring home the little cordial cherries when she made a 7-11 run, she would be like …”What????? it’s just one, it won’t hurt you”, or in the middle of movie night, she would pop off, “ WOW! doesn’t an ice cream Sundae from Braums sound sooooo good right now??????” and then the time she stopped by taco bell and got a burrito supreme, she asked if I wanted a bite. And out of nowhere I screamed “NO! I DON’T WANT A BITE I WANT THE WHOLE F*#%IN THING”!. (being on liquids and mushies does strange things to you), when a year before, she would have been rewarded for doing any of the above things with at least a big smile. I know she loved me and cared about me, they just don’t understand, I believe they think that because we are banded that we have no desire or carvings for those “no no” foods anymore . To be honest, before I got banded that is what I thought…… Things are so different now, (after a few “REALLY?” stink eyes and unexpected walks around the block) we plan healthy meals together and she has actually started working out with me. (she don’t need to at all) But just in case, I try to always be prepared with a package of almonds, yogurt or a quick lean cuisine to pop in the microwave, just last night I caught her eating a leftover marshmallow chocolate Santa she had hiding under the covers, it made me smile knowing that even today, she is still trying. so dont let it get to you, I think in time it should get easier for you because they will start to understand.

I'm so sorry your frustrated. You are only a week out from major surgery, Our bodies don't react predictably from that a lot of the time. Just be patient and follow your plan and the weight will come off. In terms of your diet, of course listen to your team. I can tell you that early out I was "eating" only 1-2 oz very soft foods (like greek yogurt) and stuffed from that very small amount and waited 30-60 minutes after to drink fluids. Outside of those windows, I really, really focused on fluids. Small sips every couple of minutes as it was the only way to drink enough. It took a lot of effort to get them in until I could slowly drink more at one time.

I, too, did not care for the Greek yogurt at all. I've heard that smell is 95% of taste ... and this smells awful.
-
I love greek yogurt...but not the plain yogurt.. plain yogurt in any form is nasty.. LOL I use the Chobani flavored yogurt... it comes in three flavors, peach (YUM) blueberry and strawberry..... I add one packet of splenda to it... try that...

I was sleeved April 27 (5 days ago) and I'm doing good! Thing is, I'm already so tired of the same things. The full liquids stage leaves me fast and leaves me feeling hungry. I've been eating yogurt, Cream of Wheat, soup, broth, sf jello, protein shakes...I need some varieties! Any new ideas?

8Weeks Post Op & So Sick!
diddle106 replied to sweet's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was so just like you around eight weeks. I did well with low sugar oatmeal, and low fat yogurt. I absolutely could not do chicken, tried everyway possible. I still did a lot of protein shakes at this point. Oh ya eggs were my best friend, hard boiled. Key is chew chew chew!! It's hard but if not u end up so sick. Also what I found helped was to take the first bite and then sit for like 2 minutes, it almost "woke" up my tummy. Hope this helps, but really it's all trial and error. Good luck. -
Good for you to realize what's going on and be accountable to yourself! I think once the swelling goes down and food is tolerated better, it takes more effort than it did at first to stick with it. Don't be so hard on yourself, because that is counter productive. I am just under 3 months out, and I'm finding the need to be very fastidious about eating, because I know I could graze all day! (haven't done it, but know I could ) You mentioned you have a hard time with rules, and I have to tell you, I don't like them either, lol, but I follow them. If the day comes that I don't do so well, I hope I'm as brave as you to come here for support. My diet is super simple. I don't want to spend any time focusing on food, either thinking about it, shopping for it, preparing it, etc. Breakfast: Premier protein shake Lunch: lunch meat, chesse, egg, yogurt, etc Dinner: chicken, turkey, other lean meat, veg or fruit Snacks: string cheese, yogurt, hummus/pita chips or veg, fruit I use fitbit to track every bite I eat, and have been eating 800 calories per day. My weight loss slowed in February, so I'm bumping up my calories a little to see how it goes. I decided there is no sense in eating 800 calories a day if I'm only losing 1-2 pounds a week. I could do that on 1200+ before! Good luck!

I am 4 weeks post op...eating soft foods and drinking fine. By Soft I mean...yogurt, cottage cheese, ground meats, fish. I have tried recently - a few bites of chicken breast that was not dry- was fine ...a homemade cheeseburger (was also fine)- no bun of course and ate it for two meals and still tossed some. And I am to eat soft veggies but i dont have room for them most meals...I supplement with one protein shake IF i have not met my protein goals. I also eat string cheese and some other things per my plan. I haven't gone out to a restaurant yet but I could and feel comfortable if i had to right now. Just watch sugars, butters, etc....and customize things. That being said you have to check where you will be on your plan at 4.5 weeks..... I would be totally fine walking around at a park and the beach. I would likely be tired from the amusement park earlier than everyone else but I have no issues drinking water. I get around 100 ounces a day now- but would like to get a bit more. Check with your team but I think you will be fine as long as things are going well. Best of luck!

Soft food ideas?
Ladybandito replied to sgnelson22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went the pre-packaged way .. Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, taco bell pintos and cheese.
