March 2022 Surgery Buddies
Stephy2014 replied to LilaNicole20's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'll be 5 wks on Friday, iv had a few things get stuck and it's uncomfortable for about 10 min really stinks, but iv eaten eggs, bacon, sausage, shrimp, crackers, iv even had a piece of thin crust cheese pizza, iv never been regular as far as #2 goes but it's never been pure liquid since the surgery either, your esophagus may need to stretch a little more we all heal differently. But I'm sure it will get better in the coming weeks. Good luck -

I just had a gastric sleeve surgery two weeks ago. I am doing well. Of course, I am still on full liquids. I have had no problems but have had some diarrhea. I don’t know if this is normal at first. I sort of thought it might be. I hope things get better for you. Blessings. -

Hi All [emoji3059] Hope you're all losing and feeling fantastic [emoji126][emoji1739][emoji16]. I'm struggling to eat at the moment and wondered if anyone had an tips on how I can improve things. I now hate the smell of meat, it makes me gag and after 3 tsp of food I quickly feel full, uncomfortable and sick. I have tried to go back a step and eat pureed/mashed food but the same thing happens. I am also still not regularly going to the toilet, it's probably once to twice a week and starts off normal but ends up as diarrhoea [emoji85]. I had me op 24th March so I'm 5 weeks out. How much food are you managing to eat in a day? I really appreciate any support [emoji3059]. Sent from my SM-G980F using BariatricPal mobile app -
It gets better, I am 6 weeks post op and I can drink 16 oz in about 30-40 minutes now. Regardless, it still feels like I am eating and drinking all day. And, I am only eating 3 meals, sometimes a small snack like a babybell or string cheese to increase my protein.

April 2022 Surgery Buddies

I had surgery on 4-5. I am amazed every day how ‘normal’ I feel. I am still on 2 tbs of purée and lots of fluids. I have good energy and walk most days. I return to work this week, thank goodness because I’m so bored! I am down a Jean size. As I put winter stuff away I am listing if for sale on Posh. I will not be wearing the same size this fall. Astounding! -
Reading about y’all’s experiences makes me hopefully! I have FEBBCBS basic and am almost done with the pre-op process (last appointment is June 6). I was worried I’d have to wait many weeks to get approval.

Possible stricture and the dressed foamies

That very day I made chicken wings, ate 3 pieces no skin and very little dipping sauce but so satisfying. Definitely let your surgeon know what’s going on, it’s a simple fix if that’s what’s is happening. I haven’t had any issues since I had the egd with dialation on 4/27/2022. Wish you the best, don’t loss hope🥰 -
How long are you missing work?
lorlybeth84 replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had my surgery on Tuesday 3/22 and returned to work on Monday 3/28 so basically 6 days off. I did ok but definitely got tired and it was a little difficult remembering to drink constantly. If you get interrupted a lot at work that can be difficult as you pretty much need to take small sips constantly or at least every 15 minutes. Physically I didn't have many issues and if I did have pain it was easily resolved with some tylenol. Ultimately it depends on you and your body, but myself and my husband have both had the surgery and agree that a week off is sufficient. -
Sounds like you walk more then me, that’s great. I hated the puréed stage but I will tell you that refried beans and black beans became my best friend. I love anything remotely related to Mexican food. So I would mash my black beans down and add a little shredded cheese and plain Greek yogurt to replace sour cream. That was my go to meal. I might actually try some again this week but just just add a little chicken. I also tried egg salad but made it with low fat ranch dressing instead of mayo.

Awesome! Good luck to you too. Almost 2 weeks for us to go.

I know that it's going to suck. I'm more worried about dropping off my 3 y/o to daycare and having to climb that flight of stairs. I'm considering asking the director if I can't bring her in another entrance that is ground level that they don't typically utilize for pick-up/drop-off for the first week back. 19 year old me went through a laparoscopic gallbladder removal and was grocery shopping the same night and returned to a more physically demanding job than I have now within two-three days. When I had my first baby, I returned to work in a couple of weeks, so I think I'm either stupid or hard-headed. -

I’m taking 3 weeks off. I was sleeved in 2017. At that time I arranged 2 weeks off. Didn’t feel ready to go back to a job on my feet most of the day, so I took a 3rd. This time I’m starting with 3 weeks. I’m sleeve to RNY on 5/6. -
BP improvement is the big reason my cardiologist wants me to have surgery. I’m on 3 BP meds. Exercise pretty regularly. And have a pacemaker and congenital defects. He said more than likely after surgery I’ll stay on 1 pill and for at least 6 months be closely monitored. When you think about why BP is higher it makes sense. By losing weight you decrease how much effort your heart has to put into just keeping you alive.

9 days out, 8 oz of soup?
Rachel_Hannah replied to jademanke@gmail.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone's body is different. The size of your sleeve is directly related to the size of your stomach before surgery. I can drink a 11.5oz premier protein in 3 hours by sipping consistently and I'm almost 3 weeks post op. For the first week, I could only handle 2 oz every 2-3 hours. Now for water I can drink up to 8 oz per hour as long as I'm sipping slowly. When I eat pureed foods or semi-soft foods, I can only eat 2.5-3 oz. I don't tolerate ground meat too well, but I can tolerate scrambled eggs that are soft cooked and refried beans when they're thinned out a bit. -

I only work 2 days a week… and we self schedule. So I just figured mine up last night ..If I miss 2 days of work (PTO days). I will have a total of 17 days off before I have to return. That’s doable 😊 -
Can you lose restriction after surgery???
MandoGetsSleeved replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
What Catwoman says - I'm almost 3 years out and the restriction is definitely still there. What you will learn over time is that some foods will fill you up MUCH quicker than others. Some will sit heavier than others. These will vary from person to person (I know, it makes no sense). Example, my buddy who had the same surgery at about the same time and with the same surgeon can eat a whopping 2 chicken wings before he's done. I can easily eat 3-4 of the same wings. Meanwhile, lobster - That guy can tear through a lobster like it's nothing. Me; I can maybe eat half of it. The only thing I can think of is the speed of which we eat because AFTER he eats that lobster he's pacing the floor and walking it off for an hour! I think what a lot of people figure out (I know I have) is you CAN out eat the sleeve if you try. This can be by grazing constantly, eating slider foods (anything that goes right through or you chew into nothing - think soft foods like ice cream or hard foods like potato chips), or contantly overeating. For me, I found that around 8 months or so that's where I found my new normal as far as how much I could eat at a normal meal and even today if I put more than 6-8ox of food total (protein and vegetables) on my plate I can't even consider eating all of it. Usually it's more in the 4-5 oz range total and I'm full and not uncomfortable at 3 years out. -
Can you lose restriction after surgery???
catwoman7 replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
you'll have swelling the first few weeks which really limits how much you can eat. After that all goes down, from what I understand, it does loosen up a bit over time, but not THAT much, unless you're chronically overstuffing it. -
Hello! I hope this last week is a quick one and no last minute surprises! Who are you going to?
-
All set to go next Monday. I saw the Surgeon this morning and also paid the Surgeons Bill and the anesthetic guys as well. The surgeon mentioned this morning that he would also check on my hernia while he was in there. One place I needed to go had a lift that was broken. I needed to walk up two levels. I am glad that they had chairs on each level. I always go red in the face. Other people had no problem with the stairs. Hopefully that will be me in the future. Anyway another week to go on the optifast Diet. It has all gone pretty well. Hears to all of us. WE GOT THIS.

How long are you missing work?
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm definitely going to. My employer was ok-ish with me taking off a week, but when I said it might lead to 2 weeks they said absolutely not. So something that can protect me (and my job) if I need more time is exactly what I need.
