That's awesome. Thanks for the positive boost. Week 2 has been really rough on me so I'm hoping next week will be better. I haven't lost any weight since being banded but my nurse said that is probably from not having enough calories and the reduced activity. Thanks for the reply

I'm at 3.4cc's and still do not have the restriction I'm supposed to have. So, I'm headed for fill #6 today. I do have "some" restriction, but I need to be tighter. I'm hoping fill #6 will jump start my weightloss again. In the past 2 months I haven't lost any weight, however, its my own fault. I haven't tried either. Will update more in my journal later.

Average Calorie Intake Before 1st Fill
ChristineXtreme replied to ChristineXtreme's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi Kathy, Well I still don't know where my scales are. I have not been on them for 3 days and I plan to stay away for as long as I can. I know my doctor is going to check my weight Wednesday when I go in for my follow-up so I'll see then how I'm doing but I am afraid I might have gained some weight back since going on real food. It sounds like you are going great though. I just cleaned all the stuff off my exercise equipment since I was using the room for storage and I'm going to start kicking butt. -
Average Calorie Intake Before 1st Fill
ChristineXtreme replied to ChristineXtreme's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thanks Zoe, I lost 12 before the surgery and 8 since. I have put my scales away though. I don't want to get down if I stop losing or gain a few before my first fill. I can't decide if I want to check on my weight once a week now or just wait until after my first fill. I'm already feeling better though and my clothes are fitting a little better. 21 days of liquids, wow. I feel for you. I'm happy I only had 1 week of that. -

I am on my 4th fill and can't do breakfast. I do protein shakes and if I want to eat have to wait aleast 2hrs after being awake. And those day I try to eat even mush like oatmeal I struggle the whole day with eating and barely get my 1200 calories in. I really don't get it. Who else has hard time eating breakfast? I miss it sometimes what some healthy eggs or oatmeal. It blows. I also haven't seen any weight lose in 2 weeks. I bugs what is up with my body. I work out I eat healthy what is up?

Hmm.. that sounds like something pretty serious.. especially if you can't really drink anything also.. I'd call my surgeons office and let them know how serious you feel this is.. and that you cannot wait until Dec 7th. thats crazy.. hope you feel better soon! :\ and grats on such an amazing weight loss.. I would be 10lbs shy of my goal when I get there.. exciting.

Hello, I was banded June 2013. I've lost 55lbs so far. :-) I exercise at least 3 days a week. I've been in a plateau for a while now. I'm always interested in trying new things. Today I went to a nutritional shake shop in my town. I found out they use herbalife for their shakes. First you take a shot of aloe, then natural zero calorie, zero caffein tea, then the shake. All in all 250 cal,30 grams Protein, Vitamins, minerals and low sugar, low sodium etc. The shake was delicious!! Tasted like ice cream. I am wondering if anyone else has tried herbalife shakes only. I'm not interested in the vitamins/supplements etc. Just a shake as a Meal Replacement or to get the weight loss started again.

bit of restriction but no loss of appetite - is this bandster hell?
Brighton Belle posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am a little confused. I had my lap band on 9.9.09 and have had the first fill under fluoroscopy and then two more fills of 1ml each. Currently I have some restriction, in that if I eat to fast or don't chew properly I get this feeling of something being stuck, and if I were to eat more it would be painful with lots of salivating, until drinking Water "flushes it through". If I stop at the feeling of something being stuck, I do get this sensation of wind coming up and a short time later I can eat more. The problem is I am still hungry and wanting to eat more all the time despite the discomfort. Immediately after the lap band was put in, I had satiety and satiation. I could only eat a little soft stuff-scrambled egg for example, or yoghurts, but a little satisfied me for ages and I did not think of eating very much. Am I near to my sweet spot???? Getting a bit disheartened by the whole thing at the moment and it is hard to be positive. My weight has been stationary since I lost about 10lbs around the time of the op. -
Band vs Bypass
Lynn Schmibo replied to cristina2332's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are several reasons why I CHose Lap Band. 1) it is the least invasive and shortest hosp stay time. 2. ) noone is messing with my organs... No cutting stapling or reconnecting from the original design. 3) it is reversible if need be, if another illness occurred and it needed to be taken out, it can be. 4) you lose the weight slower which means less muscle mass lost. Also it lessens the chances of needing plastic surgery to repair excess hanging skin. If u lose weight too rapidly ( w/ GB) u are also losing muscle mass because they don't have enough time to firm up at the rate of which you are losing weight. 5) believe it or not, the LB has a longer term effect than GB. People seem to gain weight quicker after losing it that quickly. This is a personal reason for me, 6) Eventho going for fills/unfills is hectic , I'd rather be monitored regurly by my Dr than have GB and a couple followups and then on my own. I like that fact that oi will be checked every so often even if the fills unfills appts are annoying. Makes me face accountability to myself and Dr! It's your choice and everyone has to do what's best for them and what they think will work. I hope it helps finalize your decision. Good luck! -
I would also like to give a big thumbs up to all of you that have had this issue and struggled losing the weight between surgery and reaching your "sweet spot". Now that takes patience and you all deserve a slap on the back. I apologize if I sounded self centered during my "woe is me" speech. I am in no way disappointed with the weight loss. I expect it to be slow and knew it would not be easy. I guess I was just trying to point out that I was losing weight because of change in lifestyle and not necessarily because I have been banded. I have to say that I am grateful for the band because even if it isn't restricted yet, it has given me the kick start I have been desperately needing. The motivation comes with the weight loss.... Normally, on a diet, if I did well for a couple days, I would reward myself with of all things...food. Today I fit into a pair of pants that I haven't worn in 4 years and I rewarded myself with a longer than usual walk. So I guess I am just trying to say that I know I have had it easier than some and don't mean to come off as a whiner. Everyone who had this proceedure and didn't lose weight before the fill are really an inspiration. You should be proud that you all maintained and fought the battle. I dont know if I could be that strong! I can garantee I would have downed that burger....and possibly fries too... Thanks again for all the encouragement. Rock on!

OMG!!! Was this a waste of money???
vinesqueen replied to medussa's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
YOU ARE NORMAL!!! There, feel better? ((((hugs)))) The band is not designed to work without a fill, and you seem to be a great healer! Yes, some people need 2 or 3 fills before they find their "sweet spot" but others find the first fill does the trick. Because you are not filled, it is just like you were not banded. Of course you will be hungry. That's normal and to be expected. Please hang in there, this pre-fill stage has got to be the hardest because you want it to work, you don't want to be hungry, and you want to lose weight. So, this will probably be the last time you will be able to enjoy baked goods :girl_hug: Excellent work on the 10 pounds, btw. But jus so you know, you are going to be hungry even after you are filled. You will, because you are HUMAN. I'm sitting here, feeling hungry, but that's because I ate something like 4 hours ago. And that too is to be expected. A lot of people think that once they are banded, (and filled) that they will never, ever be hungry ever again. And that is simply not true. But maybe for the first time, you will feel physically hungry, instead of 'munchy' or 'nibbly' or something similar. Part of the key is to lean to manage your hunger, so you don't get too hungry. If I'm not careful, my hunger will sneak up on me, and suddenly I'll be ravenously hungry. And that is a danger point. If I wait until I am too hungry, I get into trouble. I'll eat too fast, or take too big of a bite and then WHAMP!!!! Stuck, or worse. Cheers and welcome to Bandlandia -
OMG!!! Was this a waste of money???

I had the same thing happen to me as well. I was able to start on soft foods at 3 weeks because of the hunger. I have had my second fill last thursday and I am feeling restriction and it is great. I was worried like you are, but I too lost a little weight in that stage and it felt great to see the scale go down. Hang in there, remember that with an unfilled band your stomach is almost the same as it was before surgery, so it is to be expected. Good luck! -
Hi Liza, I'm only 4 1/2 weeks out post op and I was told no heavy lifting over 10 lbs for the first 6 weeks, please be careful I'd hate to see your band slip or your port flip, don't forget this is the healing period. Congrats on your weight loss, that's fantastic!!

Weird Occurrence
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to BOB052212's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Getting stuck doesn't mean you're in the Green Zone, it simply means either you ate too fast, didn't take small enough bites, didn't chew well enough, or it's simply a touchy food for your band. If you are in the Green Zone, you should have the following: -Able to eat 1/2 cup to 1 cup of food per meal and feel satisfied. (not stuffed full, satisfied, no longer hungry) -Able to 4-5 hours between meals without hunger -Losing weight (even if slowly) I found after my last fill, I had to really re-learn how to eat with the band again. I really thought I was taking small enough bites but I kept getting stuck. I finally took even tinier bites and was once again able to eat anything I wanted. It's a constant learning experience. -
Hi Sola nice to see you back here. You were banded the same day as me and I have lost 35 lbs. I definitely could have lost heaps more by now but I have been struggling with it. I think my band has slipped as well, will find out on Monday. I have very little restriction and have been exercising throughout this time and that has helped me keep from putting any weight back on. It's definitely not always easy and you do have to work with the band. I'm hoping once I sort my problem out then I should start losing again. Don't stay away so long next time, this is a great place to come to stay motivated.

I'm on Long Island and have been banded since 3/30. My surgeon waits a full 8 weeks before giving a first fill so I got that a week ago. For some reason, it can take 1-2 weeks before a restriction "kicks-in" and you become aware of the band. I only had 1 cc put in and have a follow-up appointment on July 6. It appears I will need a second fill at that time. It's natural to be nervous about the surgery but I'm sure you'll do fine. It can be frustrating waiting for the surgery and then waiting for a fill and then waiting for the feeling of restriction to occur but eventually, it all works out. Unlike other forms of weight loss surgery, banding requires a lot more patience. :-)

How can you tell if your band is too tight? :omg: will it stop your weight loss?
-
Jillybean- I know what you mean about the slow weight loss. Since I started regular foods I haven't lost anything! But I have also been sick with chest cold and have not walked or excercised. I'm feeling better so will start walking again with the hope the I will drop some more weight. I have had one fill at 2 ccs and feel little to no restriction, but I am trying really hard to not overeat. The band is helping if only because I don't feel hungry, but I still think I can eat more that I would like. Drinking lots of water helps too. I am going to start logging all my calories to see if I am perhaps eating more that I thought. If that's the case I will cut back and get back on track. Hope that helps you. Good luck to you.

Hi Teresa , I was banded on 1/29/07 by Dr. DeBarrios at the Arizona Weight Loss Ctr.located in Tempe. I'm new to Arizona and am not sure how far away Tolleson is from Tempe. I know he takes Self Pay Patients since I am one. I think a fill is about $250. I am not sure since I have not had one yet ! Hope this helps. A Fellow Bandster, Joanne

PAIN OR PULLING BY PORT SITE
fusionbell replied to fusionbell's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks Rchavez101 and fluffytofabulous.... it just started yesterday and didn't know if it occured while sleeping on the belly or stretching.....i don't feel it while sitting but when i get up and move about i do feel it. ughhhh the things u have to deal with to have to lose weight. did they perform a test or anything to look at the port to see if there was a hematoma? i mean i feel the port so its there and not floating around. now the abdomen belt, what does that look like and does that help you with moving around???? can this issue occur again? i put a call into the the drs office so we'll see what they say...now Rchavez mentioned he was poked with a needle and blood came out, so was the blood inside the port, was it absorbed into the port?? so many questions, i just wanna feel normal...and these are little things to worry about ... -
The countdown is on....11 days to surgery! I have my pre-op appointment tomorrow~it can't come soon enough! I am so excited! I was instructed to do the "slim fast" shake diet or drink two shakes a day and eat one meal. I have found a chocolate shake that I actually like. I mix it with skim milk and ice. Tomorrow I have decided to add a little bit of vanilla yogurt. We will see how that goes. I have been a little emotional today. I am not quite sure why. I think I spent tooooo much time worrying and thinking about the surgery. I have my fears but its a very important step that I have to take. I am so sick of being unhappy with my weight. This is a step in the right direction. Thank you for all the blogs. I really enjoy reading everyone's views and everyone's experiences. Thank you for sharing. I appreciate your support and positive words!

Hi all, Banded 6 months ago and was doing well but have become lazy recently. I work until about 6pm and people in work don't know about the band so I usually just eat something small and wait to get home for dinner. I was doing really well but then my partner and I broke up(he left me for a younger woman - I'm 25:eek:) and I moved out. Even so I was still good and cooked dinner in the evenings. I have a daughter but she eats dinner in creche so in the evenings it's just myself I have to feed and I have fallen out of the habot of cooking. It just seems like such an effort for just me. I have been craving salty things (which is a change for me as I was always a sweet tooth) and find I usually just eat rubbish now in the evenings. Any ideas for some quick, healthy recipies bearing in mind that I am now broke (paying rent, creche etc alone now) so no expensive options please . I also know I need a good kick up the backside as I have fallen back into the "comfort eating" trap even though I am still losing weight it has slowed down and I feel tired and sluggish. Help!!!

Does anyone wish they had done the gastric bypass instead? I have know people that have had it and they lost more weight and quicker. I had the lap band because it was less sever...but im starting to wonder if i made the right choice.

Many Jewelers will give you a ring guard for free. Mine is very loose now. 20 years ago when I last was at this weight, mine fell off in my sleep in a hotel bed in Cape Girardeau Mo. Fortunately, I discovered it 8 hours later under the bed. If I press on the bottom of my wedding ring I have about 3/8" room. It slides off and on easy now. I had to stop wearing it and buy a cheap band to wear the last couple of years.
