Getting closer to my Band to Sleeve revision...
kimby1029 replied to Fatty McFatster's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Best of luck to you. Many have had revision surgeries and there is no reason you should feel ashamed. The band did not work well for you, you have accepted that and have made the decision to move on to a procedure that will yield better results for you. Be thankful and feel proud that you have made this decision. You will do great! -
Gastric Balloon Procedure Booked!
CowgirlJane replied to islesdriveforfive's topic in Gastric Balloon Forum
I hope it works well for you! Keep us posted! I got the lapband in 2001 partly because it was less scary/less permanent. In the end, I revised to the sleeve and have found that I NEED a permanent tool because I just regain sadly. -

Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction
chasingpolaris321 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi all! I had my gallbladder out about a year ago (one month post sleeve). I am pretty confident I have "sphincter of oddi dysfuntion" which essentially is when you can get spasms that block bile and cause a build-up in pressure. Long story short, an attack causes excruciating pain that feels like a heart attack. One thing that sets it off (the only thing for me, thankfully) is narcotics. Something about them causes an attack, and so even though they used to be fine I can't take them anymore as far as I can tell. I found this out the hard way 6 months ago when I had a debilitating UTI and ended up in the ER because I took one of my percocets from sleeve-surgery. I'm now facing a revision surgery, and I'm terrified about how they are going to manage the pain without narcotics. I'm wondering if anyone else developed this condition following the removal of their gallbladder, and if they have had to use pain medication afterwards for a surgery or painful condition? This isn't a very common disorder and I would like to be prepared to talk to my surgeon about it. Thanks in advance! -
Getting closer to my Band to Sleeve revision...
Fatty McFatster posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Here I am...a little embarrassed, disappointed, and ashamed...but I am ready for the Band to Sleeve revision. I took the plunge and had Lap-Band weight loss surgery on November 3, 2010. I worked hard to lose the weight with help from the Lap-Band, exercise, and the support of my wife, friends, and extended family. I did great and lost 115 pounds within 2 years...Unfortunately, the weight loss didn't last. I began to develop ulcers and other gastro issues and began to gain weight back (even though I had good restriction). I eventually had to have the band completely emptied...which resulted in me gaining all of my weight back (and more). I am currently in the process of having the Gastric Sleeve revision surgery. I have gone to another seminar, filled out all of the necessary paperwork, turned in medical records, and have my nutrition and mental health evaluations scheduled for next week. So, I should be having my surgery sometime in the next 4-6 weeks...fingers crossed. I am ready to lose weight so I can someday zip-line, go on hikes, ride in airplanes, and buy whatever clothes I want (and not be limited by the poor selections in Big & Tall sections). Thanks for listening. -
Looking for preop friends :)
Dream4tc replied to ShutterGirl1829's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi you are free to add me, just PM me, I am on Facebook. I was a banded patient but that was removed Aug 10th and my surgeon is making me wait so I can heal before revision to RNY which I plan to do in November. Not sure on the date yet. It might be Nov 12, 13, or 16th. My NUT, and Psych evaluation is Oct 2nd and then they will submit. The hard part is waiting, but I still have my port incision that is still healing. Looking forward to getting to know others who are going through this journey too -
Here I am...again...starting anew.
Fatty McFatster posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Here I am...AGAIN...embarrassed, disappointed, and ashamed...but I am starting anew. By background: I was always very active for most of my life (farming, basketball, weight training, intramural sports, and high school/ college marching bands) and at 5' 11" tall, I weighed between 165-185 pounds during my "lean" years. BUT about 12 years ago that all changed. I started packing on the pounds due to various physical and emotional reasons. I tried countless diets, exercises, pills, and weight-loss fads, but to no avail. The number on the scale kept rising. I don't know what clicked...maybe it was being diagnosed with the beginning stages of Congestive Heart Failure...but sometime during the middle of 2010 I took the plunge and had Lap-Band weight loss surgery on November 3, 2010. I worked hard to lose the weight with help from the Lap-Band, exercise, and the support of my wife, friends, and extended family. I did great and lost 115 pounds within 2 years... I have a lot more living and dreaming to do, so I am ready to do the work to lose the weight again. Any support and advice is much appreciated. Thanks for listening. -

Nervous about Sleeve to RNY revision
SleeveandRNYchica replied to SleeveandRNYchica's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
@SleevenChica: You will do fine. I had my sleeve surgery in 2013 and a revision; RNY, just a month ago. For me, it feels totally different from the sleeve because with the sleeve I was able to do more in a short time. But I'm still getting used to the RNY. Good luck! Thank you! Has the recovery been more difficult thank the sleeve? How long were you out of work? -
Questions about weight loss surgery
ktscott replied to ktscott's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
While I'm no longer pro-band, I would like it to be noted that this is untrue. With an optimally-tuned lapband (correct fill level, eating band-friendly food) hunger will not increase nor will metabolism slow down as bandsters lose weight. As long as the band is functioning properly and the patient remains compliant (and this is true of ALL WLS), hunger will remain dimmed and metabolism rolls along just fine.. Well thank you! Good to know. What surgeries have you had?If you look at my info, you will see I had a lapband in March 2013. A year later, I developed complications in the form of heart arrythmia (related to the lapband and its position on the vagus nerve). I will not revise to another WLS. oh I didn't realize we could look a profiles. Sorry new to the site. Wow. That it quite a complication. Thanks so much for sharing your experience with me. -

Did you have your band unfilled prior to revision surgery?
spideygirl7133 replied to btradio's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had my revision over 3 weeks ago and I did not have an unfill prior to my surgery. In addition, I was only on a liquid diet for 2 days prior to the surgery. Hope this helps! -
Argument for Surgeon as to Why I Want the Bypass
geronimo replied to luvhermitcrabs's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
This doctor is pushing the sleeve on everyone? That raises a red flag for me. The Bypass is the golden standard in WLS, so if this guy is trying to push the sleeve on everyone instead of the RNY, that seems a bit odd to me. It immediately makes me wonder how many sleeve and RNY operations he has performed, and the success rates of both. It would also bring into question for me his confidence level of performing the RNY. If he has a low confidence level in RNY and that is causing him to push the sleeve, I would definitely seek out another surgeon. Many people have GERD, or history of it, or the potential for it. I, for example, have terrible GERD and Barrett's, so after a few tests my bariatric surgeon and my thoracic surgeon (I also had a hiatal hernia) both said straight out that I was not a candidate for the sleeve. Many people who have never had GERD wind up getting it post-op, so if your family has a history of it, I would highly recommend researching on the net why the sleeve is so bad for people with GERD, and I would also highly recommend RNY instead. You can always get the sleeve now and get a revision to RNY later on if GERD becomes a problem, but why do two surgeries when you can just do one to take care of it all? I guess first I would just talk to your prospective surgeon(s) to hear what their thoughts are, and then move forward from there. -
Welcome and good luck on your revision!

Wedding is 12/5 - Surgery Date is 10/5 - ...How much weight could I lose?
Djmohr replied to betrthnever's topic in The Gals' Room
@@betrthnever Congratulations on getting approved and your upcoming nuptials! I am not sure that I can help because I did not have a revision. I had RNY bypass and lost nearly 55lbs in that first 8 weeks. I dropped from a size 26 to a size 18. I only know this because I went to Vegas exactly 8 weeks post op and had to buy all new clothes. I had just been released to soft foods a couple weeks before. Now the tricky thing is where you lose which is different for everyone. For me, my butt seemed to go first followed by my boobs. Even after being so close to goal my arms, thighs and tummy is where everything is hanging on. It seems from watching everyone on this site that weight loss differs so much from one to the other in the beginning. I would just assume as you are, that you will likely be somewhere between 25 and 50lbs smaller. Keep a seamstress involved and just go with that. It is the best you can do. Again! Congratulations! -
My sleeve to bypass revision is scheduled for 9/28. I am so ready for it to get here but nervous as well. Friend me on Facebook as well. I would love to have some extra support. My husband is very supportive but my family, not so much. The reflux I have from the sleeve is unreal and I am so ready to be free of it!! Good luck to everyone!

VSG revision to Gastric Bypass
mama11 replied to staceymaelofton's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Thank you Dar200! I'm gonna try. I went to my new appt at the new surgeon office Iam now seeing. She wants me to do weight management to see if I still have a eating problem. And it's gonna take several months. At the first hospital where I had my VGS they had me do weight management for a year and a half. Than he says he's not doing it I'm so tired of wasting my time! But barix clinics said they would do revision to gastric bypass but they very far from my home and my insurance they don't accept -

Nervous about Sleeve to RNY revision
SleeveandRNYchica replied to SleeveandRNYchica's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
. My surgeon is very confident that a revision is possible and will be successful. I am confident in him. I am just nervous. All surgery comes with risk. My sleeve surgery was so successful as far as the recovery. I had a healthy pregnancy and my labs are perfect except low vit d. I am concerned about my overall health with the RNY. -
Questions about weight loss surgery
toasty replied to ktscott's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'll jump on the "band" wagon here. My insurance company pays for WLS, but specifically not the band because of all of the difficulties and eventual revisions that have been experienced. May be another thing to look into. -
I have a friend who had RNY about 10 years ago. She did great. Lost weight. But in about 3 years she started gaining until she had gained it all back. At about 5 years after the first surgery she had a revision since her stomach had stretched out. She lost weight again just not as much as the first time and seems to be maintaining pretty well now just at a higher weight than the first go around.

My surgeon does not even do lap bands anymore, and said many of the surgeries he does today are revisions from band to sleeve or bypass. -
October 5 for me! I believe I will only have a week of pre-op liquid diet, but then another 1-2 weeks post-op liquid diet. I will know for sure on September 23. I am a revision from band to RNY. I was denied last year and just approved. Yahoo! I can't believe this is happening!
