According to me that yogurt is the best food for get energy and fitness.Mostly i like the yogurt in the breakfast because it is the best for cure the stomach diseases and reduce the extra body weight....
  2. Right after surgery, you have to follow a STRICT diet, from your surgeon. It's set up that way to insure proper healing of your band, also prepping you for how to eat in the future. You can't scarf food down anymore, can't chug down pop, alcohol, or even Water anymore. Everything is much slower. Lots of chewing, lots of smaller bites, lots of sips, and certainly no alcohol and sodas. The caffeine is a no-no for the first two weeks, according to my diet plan. The first 3 days were nothing but liquid, at 2-3 oz each meal, 6 meals a day, plus 24 oz of water. Days 4-6 were still 6 liquid meals, but every other one was a Protein drink, all still 2-3 oz each. Day 7-13 are what they call the blended stage. Portions upped to 3-4 oz, and now certain foods are added, such as yogurt, creamed Soups, cottage cheese, veggies, even chicken and turkey with brith added. Still drinking the Protein shakes, 3-4 oz in between each meal, still incorporating 24 oz of water. Mind you, this is how my des plan is, others may be different. So far, so good for me! (My diet plan goes up to 5 wks post-op. I can post more of it, if you'd like.) My husband was banded in 2010, and he still eats like crap, but his portions are very small. The band lets you know when enough is enough. I wish he would eat better. I'm hoping my better choices will rub off on him!!!
  3. Does your tongue hurt at all? Maybe feels kinda raw? If so, you might have a yeast infection in your mouth (aka thrush). That would explain the thick white coating on your tongue. It is easy to get rid of, when I get it (from antibiotics) I have my doc call me in a Diflucan pill. It is a pill (only one) for yeast infections and it starts working within 24hrs. It usually clears it completely (for me) in 24hrs. There is other options you can try, eating yogurt, or there is a special mouthwash, or you can just gargle with peroxide (yuck it foams up and is nasty I personally hate doing it). These methods take longer to work than the Diflucan pill though. If it is not thrush, and just bad breath, there is an over the counter breath aid in the toothpaste section at any store and it comes in several forms. Personally I would check with your pcp (especially if you have recently been on antibiotics) he/she may want to see you in office before they perscribe the pill, but if you had been recently they would probably call it in for you an not make you come in. The reason I would go to the pcp and not the dentist is because the dentist for some reason cannot or doesn't want to percribe the pill and most dentists don't know that this little pill exists. Hope this helps!

    One week post op

Since I ate everything with a tablespoon pre-op, switching to a teaspoon is using s smaller spoon. I did get some appetizer spoons rather than toddler spoons. I still use one of those to eat things like yogurt. It really does help me to take smaller bites. If you use a teaspoon then try using just the tip rather than a full teaspoon full. It takes practice but I think that taking smaller bites, eating slowly, and chewing thoroughly really makes a difference. The benefit is that I get to really taste my food.

    Pre Op Diet

I have been mixing protein powder with low fat yogurt, a cup of water and ice. Just make sure the protein powder/drink you get meets the protein and carb requirements.
  7. You are so very right nfl. I was not saying there is anything wrong with soup and yogurt. I eat them all the time. My band is not even open for business until 2:00 pm. My doctor wants me to have a protein shake for breakfast (forever) and it's a good thing he does - that is about all I can get, and keep, down. I too have trouble with some "real foods" and you are right about getting in meat and veggies in soup. They are considered slider foods, but we all have to do what works for us. Yogurt is my treat every night. Sorry if I came off like I thought there was something wrong with eating these foods - not what I meant at all. I am a firm believer in doing what you need to do to make this process work - and that is different for every one of us. Nice to have the support. We are all in this together!! Becky
  8. Very true they don't stay in very long, but when one is tight in the early afternoon, home made soup with lots of chunky veggies, and even some meat (very moist when in the soups) does work. Our doc and nutritionist encourages yogurt and cottage cheese always. I have trouble with some "real" foods, and having a variety of things in a soup/stew helps to get balance and does stay with me for several hours.
  9. Happy New Year everyone!! I am looking forward to a much better new year than last year was and hope that we will get somewhere better with this Covid. I have a issue I am dealing with at night. I am not a good sleeper and haven't been for a few years, but since the surgery, I have been hungry through the night and it seems like I need to eat every 2-3 hours. I really don't like doing this. Does anyone else have this problem and, if so, how do you handle it? I try to eat yogurt, cottage cheese, and things like that, but those things can get boring and I also use them during the day. I did get some protein soups from BariatricPal store and can tolerate it, but you can sure taste the protein powder in the soups.....something that I'm not crazy about. Maybe one of you can help me out with this....

    Starting actual foods

The way the PA in my surgeon's office put it is that you have to experiment and find what works for you. There are some things that your body will struggle with for no apparent reason. The first solid food I ate was tuna fish with some Greek yogurt and a little bit of salt/pepper. You eat slowly, in small bites with great chewing and wait to see what happens. I know this sounds weird, but I know I am generally okay with a food if I can burp. When a food doesn't work for me, it feels like there is a manhole cover over my stomach and the food feels like it backs up on me until I vomit. But if I am burping, then air is moving through the system and things will be okay. You will find there are foods that you tolerate that you don't enjoy (chewing watermelon down to a pulp is a deeply unpleasant experience). You will find some foods go down easy (for me, tuna fish, sauteed spinach and/or ground beef all go down fairly easily). You will find some foods that you can handle, but your stomach lets you know that it doesn't enjoy breaking them down (for me, grilled chicken, white rice). The minute that your stomach indicates that it is full or it is having trouble, put down your fork and stop. It's not worth pushing it. Go into this with the attitude of "I am going to try this, I am going to listen to my stomach, I am going to do the big three [slow, small, & chewed] and we will see what happens." Solid food is not something to be scared of.
  11. Ladies, I am with you on this one. My husband works overnight and I am at the house with the kids. I was doing great in the beginning either going upstairs to work out or working from home while they ate dinner, but the fat girl in my has reared her ugly head:cursing:! I find myself eating the Snacks for their lunches. I've stopped working out too. It's like I can't stop myself. I have finally gotten back in the right mindset, but the idle time at home is driving my crazy. Eat a handful of raisins, Jello, pudding, yogurt, or those 100 calorie snacks. Some of them have high carbs, but it will curb that itch to have something crunchy. Jen

    Good mushy/soft food treat

Thanks for the idea Sunshine! I am so tired of yogurt! lol It'll be nice to try something else for a treat!
  16. I don't know if any of you have tried the new Jello Pudding Mousses. They're sugar free and I normally don't like very much but today I added a drop of peppermint extract and mixed in and it was very good. I felt like I was eating a decadent dessert but it was only 60 calories. Of course I try to stick to yogurt since that has nutritional value but it's a good light treat if you need one.
  17. My team was pretty adamant about measuring by volume only, specifically telling us not to use a scale. You'll find with a lot of foods that you'll get more by weight than volume. I often eat the greek light and fit yogurts that come in a 5oz container so I like to use that container as a frame of reference. They told us around 6oz by volume for meal so I try to visualize if I could fit my meal into that container.
  18. I guess I was never really told how much protein to have in a day. I always choice my high protein meal first. Turkey, chicken, Greek yogurt, cheese. Eggs. I feel great, lose weight like I should. I just nervous I don't want to be malnutrition. Lol. I do three meals. One snack. I have started doing protein bar as well.

I can't have raw fruits or veggies until 6 months!!! Hope this helps Kim
  21. I've done my best to stay motivated and positive following my vsg surgery. I'm following the guidelines of the NUT and staying between 500-800 kcal daily with at least 60 g protein. I make sure I get enough fluids in daily and exercise by walking on the treadmill. Some days I have over done it on the exercise and had zero energy the next day. I am not in any pain and am able to eat what I want as long as I chew it up really, really well. My meals consist of fish, chicken, turkey or eggs with a daily protein shake, greek yogurt and if I haven't gotten in my protein near the end of the day I'll have some cottage cheese. My question is: why am I not losing weight? Immediately following surgery in the hospital, I was down 10 lbs. Since then, I've only lost one more. Any ideas? I have a 4 week follow up this coming Wednesday and will ask then as well. I hope the fear I had pre-op that I may go through all of this for nothing is not coming true! Thanks for any support and enlightenment you can provide.
  22. Hi Bill, I too had my band placed on 8/27. I use low or fat free cream soups, egg drop soup, yogurt, protein shakes. Costco has these protein drinks that have 30 gm of protein in them and they are really yummy if you like chocolate. On the 13th of sept. I will start my soft solids. I have pureed veg. soup and just added a bit more water so it isn't to thick. good luck, Cyndie
  23. I don't technically think I'm ready to have these, but the Gerber Graduates yogurt melts are my new favorite little treat. Those and the cheddar bite things (look like cheese puffs) are so good. They literally melt in your mouth. They aren't bad either. Not high in protein (only 1g) or anything, but good if you need to crunch something!

    Are there any guys here?

Hi All. Banded 4/26/10, outpatient. Began pre-op diet at 237 (bmi 37), weighed in this morning at 209. Depending on how I calculate the start date/weight, I'm down about a pound per week. Insurance paid 100%. No particular "guy" issues, I don't think. The whole notion of the band being a "tool" is totally on target - but I think its impossible to understand before you have one. Its not a cure - you really do have to learn how to use it, and be willing to do so. There is definitely a learning curve, and you have to be pretty thoughtful about your eating (content, timing, etc.) That said, I still get stuck about once per week, and when it happens it just sucks. I've puked in some interesting places (my mother-in-law's backyard, on the interstate while driving, in the bathroom of a home I was considering for a purchase), and it can really put a damper on the day. I've been surprised at the kinds of foods that "work" and those that don't. For example, I can still eat a bagel (well, 1/2 a bagel), but bananas and some yogurts cause problems. I eat at least one salad per day (with Beans, walnuts, other veggies, a bit of olive oil, etc) which I find very satisfying and easy to eat (I'm a vegetarian). I try to have some Protein with every meal, but I don't really count protein grams. I usually have 4 small meals (a bit less than 1 cup, by volume) of 300-400 calories each. I don't drink for 60-90 minutes after a meal (and NEVER during a meal), and try and drink 12-16 oz 10 or 15 minutes before I eat. I eat every 3 1/2 - 4 1/2 hours, and can stretch that out a bit by drinking. Diet Snapple has become my new best friend. Mostly, problems arise when I am rushed or distracted and don't concentrate on chewing, or eat too quickly. i could probably have the band tightened a bit to quicken my weight loss (8 cc in a 14 cc band), but I am committed to the idea of wanting to eat "normal foods in normal amounts", which is basically where i am. Also, I don't want to increase the frequency of vomiting. Once every 7-10 days is plenty. All in all, I am VERY pleased with the band. For the first time in my life, I can eat a meal, feel satisfied, and not be hungry again five minutes later. I feel better physically, my numbers (bp, cholesterol) are all way down, and, while I am by no means at a normal weight - yet - I look a lot better. Nice to hear from the guys on the board. Good luck to those of you who are going for it. Unsolicited advice: (1) Make sure you have your surgery performed by a reputable, well-trained physician who does A LOT of bands - practice really does make perfect. (2) Go to a practice that provides good follow-up care and support (fills, nutrition advice, moral support). This is key. (3) Don't expect a miracle - it takes work, attention, and a willingness to endure some "unpleasantness" while you're learning how this thing works. Best, Zig

    I Have A Question

I use the Old El Paso Fat-Free ones. Once I warm them (1/4c at a time since I'm the only one eating them) I top them with Sargento's Reduced-fat Colby Jack cheese then microwave until cheese begins to melt. After, I stir in either Pace Picante sauce or my own homemade salsa (thank you Jesus for making me Latina and for my Ninja!) and top with a teaspoon to a tablespoon of Fage 0% Greek yogurt- it's higher protein than sour cream and still gives me that creaminess. Oh and no gas!
