  1. I reached a personal NSV today...I can cross my legs! Now, in the past, I've faked it by leaning slightly to one side and flinging one leg over the other, and then holding onto my knee for dear life. From the front, sure...looked like I was normally crossing my legs, while resting slightly on my knee. Meanwhile, the back side of me was hanging over the armrest. Now, I can sit normal with my butt and hips straight and cross my legs. AND IT DOESN'T FALL OFF! I don't have to hold it. My next NSV - on the road to becoming a "normos" - will be when I can tuck one foot behind the leg that's being crossed. The BIG NSV will come when I can cross the leg, tuck the foot, and twist my legs to the side - without moving my butt. I've studied the normal woman for years. Pretty soon I'll be able to mingle among them with no one the wiser that once I couldn't even cross my legs. In the meantime it's small steps toward normal...

    Share your NSV's!!!!!!!!!!

Love NSV's. Here are some of my fav's so far.... 1. No seat belt extender on airplane 2 weeks ago. 2. Fit in "skinny" jeans which have been in my closet for 5 years untouched. 3. According to new BMI, am now only obese.
  3. I don't see a thread under our month for NSV's. But althought the scale hasn't budged we shall all have Non-Scale-Victories! My NSV scale dropped...BMI dropped...it is unofficially at 39.1 BMI. I would not qualify for the surgery....if insurance was paying for it!!!!!:crying: but will know officially on fill appt at surgeon's office-keeping that as my official weight-ins. What NSV do you have to share with us?
  4. Rapid "weight" gain like that is just Water weight most of the time. If you are eating a lot of canned Soups and the like they have a LOT of sodium (salt) in them, which will make you retain water. You are probably struggling to get your water in as well, trying not to drink 30 mins before, or 30 mins after eating and eating every 3-4 hours is a real challenge (but you'll get the hang of it). This also contributes to the water retention because just as your body stores fat when you don't give it enough food, it stores water when you are not getting enough fluids in. Now you're saying, "How can I not be getting enough fluids if I am on a liquid diet?" Right? Well the liquids in your diet, the soups etc., are going to fill your nutritional needs and while they are technically liquid, there is not enough liquid in them to properly hydrate and nourish your body. Lastly, the surgery and pain medication coupled with the lack of solid foods and reduced amounts of liquids can constipate you in a big hurry. You don't really want to use a laxative but a stool softener is an excellent idea and maybe a little Fiber supplement to clean house and lighten the load a little. So, what to do: 1) Try low sodium soups, etc. 2) Drink as much water as you can during your windows of opportunity 3) Keep things moving in the lower GI (the softener) 4) Most importantly, and most difficult, put away the scale! You should not be worried about any significant weight loss/gain/daily fluctuations right now (or ever for that matter). I used to weigh myself everyday and I was driving myself nuts and often times not doing the things I needed to because I was either mad at the scale if it went up, or scared of it going back up when it did go down. I even convinced myself that I shouldn't workout as much (or at all) because my weight went up every time I went to the gym. Not significantly of course, but it went up because muscle weights more than fat and I didn't like it. Try to focus on what we call NSVs, or non-scale victories. Tying your shoes on the top of your foot, getting a towel to completely cover your body (even if it is a beach towel at first), having your pants fall down when you put your cell phone in your pocket, being able to breathe when you reach the top of the stairs....Priceless! All the wonderful little things that will happen to your body as you lose weight and get healthier. Things that you won't see on the digital scale readout. Things you might not see at all if you are only looking at the arbitrary number on the scale. Be a loser, not a number. I am 15 months post-op and down 108lbs! I started in a size 24 and I just bought a size 10 jeans for the first time since I was 12 years old! The band is your tool belt, but you still have to build the house, patiently. Good luck and feel free to e-mail me anytime.
  5. Hi Back from Red Robin. We had a small group tonight - John, Dee and myself. Woofay thanks for letting us know. We had them save a large table and enjoyed it for the three of us. John has almost lost 100 pounds since last August. I am flabbergasted (I think that is how you spell it) - just amazed. Dee is well on the way to recovery and doing really well in the weight loss department. Way to go Banditos! We all took a box home with us, man, times have changed. The three of us sign a Dr. K card that I brought, then Dee is going to include our picture from tonight in it. Thanks Dee! That's it from Red Robin. I love the NSV's and want to add - Looking good in a belted outfit Having plenty of seat room in an airplane Feel confident being me when I enter a room and instead of wanting to hide I think there are lots more, but those come to mind. Hugs all, hope more of you can make it to RR next month. Michelle

    Twenties NSVs

Thanks ya'll! Good times... Any other fun NSV's??
  7. I do suffer from depression - had it for the last 15 years or so. But my depression doesn't mean I can't enjoy some things, and my weight loss has been one of my biggest achievements in recent years. I have had several NSVs - including today, putting a medium size T shirt on. My family are very supportive and are so pleased and proud of me. I just don't seem able to join them. A friend said to me the other day that he was jealous of me for my weight loss. That had the effect of me questioning whether or not my weight loss was a good thing. Part of me says 'OF COURSE!', but I'm not confident about that all of the time. When I was in my 20s I was a runner and 147 pounds. I loved myself at that weight, but my depression put paid to that. I know I'll never return to that person, but I wish I could enjoy the fact I'm succeeding.

    "Green" Day Challenge

Geogia girl, yep I only weigh on Wednesdays. And sometimes I sneak a little one in on the weekend, but I dont record it. I tend to be obsessive, I am a true perfectionist. My nature is such that I want to be at goal right now and anything but that is unacceptable, but also unrealistic. It became really unhealthy for me. So in order to save myself from a future eating disorder (I know myself) I took the advise of many LBTers to weigh weekly. It took a little time but I am happier now than I was then, I can actually see NSVs now when before it was the scale or absolute failure. Its also the reason that I dont have a "highest to goal" ticker. With that and my love of Japanese style colloquialisms, Super Fantastic Weigh In Wednesday was born.
  9. hey guys, I've been on thyroid medication for a few years now for being hypo. I had my bloodwork done a few days ago and the doc called me and said the numbers were thru the roof and to immediately stop taking my meds. He wants me to come in after about 4 weeks for another blood test, but he said he thinks I'm going to be able to stop the medication since I have lost so much weight!!
  10. Hey, Guys! I've been having a lot of fun reading the new posts. How neat are the NSV? How about not having to take a ton of ibuprofen/aleve just so your knees/feet don't hurt too much to function? Or... Taking your blood pressure in a Target/Walmart and its normal??? I have lots...but anyhow! Did you all see the weather forecast for tomorrow??? CRAP! Not sure I'll be present for the RR.... I've only missed one....{sniff, sniff} But, after last months trip home, I think I'll listen to the forecast. Of course, things can change quickly here, so who knows until tomorrow. Have a great night all!
  11. Hey Guys! Natalie from Dr. K's office wrote me and asked if we could add to her list of NSV's. I added mine and if everyone could just copy and paste the list and add more or they could make a list of their own. I think it's a great way to take note of all of our victories! Not just the ones on the scale.

    29Feb - losingjusme's plastics day

I had to do a "wash" of 1/2 Water 1/2 peroxide, then neosporin, just on the two stitches where the two tubes were. I didn't have to do anything to the dissolving stitches, but as soon as they started to heal I started using Mederma. Next time I see my ps I'm going to ask for a RX of some type of bleach. I had a great NSV yesterday, I tried on 12's and they were too big, I had to get 10's!!!!!!!!!

    NSV (Non Scale Victories)

I love NSVs... Today, size 8 jeans! I'm so stoked. I still have 22 lbs to lose, so I have no idea what size I will end up. I mean, I've never even thought of wearing a size 6 as a possibility...but if I lose another 22 lbs, surely I will be lower than that, even. Crazy! I'm also excited that my bra band size has gone down, from 38C when I started to 34D now. So cool! Also, I've started running in the last month. Totally an NSV...I never could have done it, even 20 lbs ago. So there they are, my lastest NSVs! I love my band.

Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Pris - To do the mulit quote - say you want to quote me, salsa, frustrated on mine you click on multi quote - on salsa you click multi quote and on frustrated you click on quote - yuo will get all 3 of our post in the reply box - then you go below my quote and type your response - then you go below salsas and type your response and same thing for frustrad and hit submit. if you want you can delete the portion that you aren't responding to like I did on yours above (by highlighting and deleting) I am the one who misses guzzling water - i use to be able to drink a 16 oz glasse in one swoop - can't now have to take my time:crying: Like Brandy said you are a July baby with us even though you had complications and ended up not getting banded - but you have done the next best thinge (in a banders eye:tongue: ) You still have weight issues and that's what this group is about - supporting each other. So don't stop posting just cuz you aren't banded. Thanks Karri for the hug - some days I just don't like my job - I have been doing it so long its just the same old crap and I have to issue certificates (evidence of coverage from one contractor to another) well they are the BIGGEST PAIN IN THE ASS things to do. (sorry for cussing but I just had to cuz I HATE certs) It seems like your insured never gives you all the info you need to issue correctly the 1st time so you end up doing them 3 times - I want to yell at them STUPID we do this over and over again - you know i do have work to do - i am not sitting on my hands waiting for you to call me to redo certs all day long... I can't yell at them - but OMW i sure do want to some times... As you know I didn't sleep well last night either - and had to really talk myself in to going to the gym tonite - But had to cuz I am having Grandaughters for the next 2 nights and don't think I will be able to get to the gym - and I was suppose to meet Phyl before support group for dinner - but cancelled cuz I really wanted to get my exercise in today (and didn't think that the support group was as important - really want to meet Phyl cuz she will be going home soon - but we are going to get together before she goes.) - since for the next 2 days - i will just be walking around my development I think if you are sore you are suppose to give your muscle 48 rest between work outs - but I will find out - cuz guess who I talked to tonite - a TRAINER well, last night as i was coming in he was leaving and I asked for his card - but was so busy never got to call him today - so tonite as I was leaving he was coming in and he put my name & # in his blackberry and said he would call me tomorrow - My plan is to work with him for 1 month (well gotta find out how much $$$) for maybe twice a week or whatever he suggest - I need to build some muscles and I want to do it correctly so that I am not intimidated by the machines. They say the more muscule you have the more calories you burn - so I want to burn baby burn those calories away. After everyone talking about why they choose their weight - got me to thinking that maybe I should try for 145 - but I want to get to 160 first then I will see. NSV to report - I walked for 2 miles straight at 4.0 on a 1 incline - I ususally do 1 or 2 songs at 3.9 or 4.0 - i even jogged for 7 10th of a mile so that I could say I did 2 miles in 30 minutes - but it was a bit much - I hope I didn't hurt my heels - but I am proud to say I did 2 15 minute miles. Thanks Brandy !!! OMW CONGRATS ON 146.5 that is awesome - way to go.. I bet you are really busy but sure glad you got a second to stop by - pop in and let us know how things are going.. Oh ya Karri we want to know what was yummy & healthy - I am having turkey meat loaf (made it last night) 1/2 c mash potatoes & green Beans.

    Non-Scale Victories!!

Great job everyone! Red, I could totally relate to your post, everything that you mentioned about fitting into seats and seatbelts on the plane! That is SO ME! I went on vacation about a month before my surgery to LA to visit my sister and I couldn't even fasten the seatbelt without an extender and thank goodness my husband was next to me so I didn't intrude on a stranger's space! The thing I kept telling myself the whole time was, "this is it, this is the last time I am going to EVER have this problem!". So far my only realized NSV is that my clothes seem to be growing! Pants and sleeves seem to be getting longer! No new size yet, but my 28s were starting to get tight before surgery so I think it will be a couple more months before I will be ready for new stuff, and, like many others, I have a closet full of work clothes I love, but can't wear so I am looking forward to awakening some "new" outfits! Great job to everyone, I can't wait to read more!

well my NSV today is that I am FINALLY wearing my Levi jeans that have been hanging in my closet for 3 years!!! Last week, I tried to put them on and couldn't get them over my hips. My Best NSV EVER!!!!

Just wanted to share because it made me soooo happy. My DBF lives about an hour from me so we generally only see each other on the weekends. And you know how it is when someone doesn't see u for a week they can really tell the difference. So anywayyyy....we are driving and he keeps looking at me, with this silly little grin on his face, finally I'm like "What, why are you staring at me?" And he says "Well I was just thinking to myself, Wow she looks great and she's my girl" Did I mention that I think I have the greatest guy EVER!!! That comment was better then ANY number the scale would have given me. He went to grab for some boobage later and he says "Uh-oh my assets are dwindling" :rolleyes2: Like the chick in that Slimquick commercial where her husband loses weight all over and the only thing that happens to her are her boobs shrivel up. Hehe--he also has a silly sense of humor.

    Knockouts March '08 chat!

I started a ticker for the 600 Minute March! I also added NSV goals to my siggy. Things are going well, I suppose. Could be better, so I'm joining Curves tomorrow. I'm just not losing the weight so I need more structure in my exercise regimen. I have decent restriction only part of the time after my first fill. My 2nd fill is coming up March 19th and it just cannot come soon enough! How's everybody else doing?

The BEST NSV for me EVER!!!

wow....i'm down to 211 and my size 20's are starting to get cleaned outta my closet (as of today actually)...most of them are just too baggy to be comfortable anymore...i wonder if i can hit up Old Navy now! that would totally ROCK! i've only gotten to buy clothes for my hubby & son in there and NEVER for myself!!! wow, i'm totally going to try it out! i'm thinking i'm going to need 18's AND hoping that some 16's will fit, depending upon where i shop. most of my shirts are now 16/18 but most of the pants i owned were down to a size 20. with the exception of the pair i'm wearing now, which is the smallest i own, and they're an 18 but not fitting 100% like i want them too....they're getting to become too big too. probably will only be able to wear them and still look decent for another week or two. i feel a SHOPPING TRIP coming on!!! thanks for the NSV!!! now i know i can try a new store!!! so excited! xoxo, Christie
