    Working Out

Thanks for the reply, sounds like your schedule has worked great. I'm at 4 weeks Post Operative and I currently do not have a exercise plan. My job is physically demanding, constantly working in the yard and I do walk a food bit, but I'm eager to put a plan into effect. I appreciate the information, sounds like its time to get those tires pumped up on my mountain bike and hit the trails!
  2. Hard going through this on my own...family being super supportive but not the same. Looking for buddy on this long journey.

    Not So Fabulous Nsv

Lol! Same here. The cold weather here is gone (70s right now) but I just HAD to buy a new coat because I am traveling overseas next week. It is the same brand and model than last years, but 2 sizes down AND it won't fit next winter! Like you said this losing weight thing sucks and is costly! Congrats on your intolerable NSV. lol
  4. Has anybody had the gastric sleeve surgery done in the Chicago land area? If so, can someone give me some recommendations? I'm going to a seminar at the University of Illinois medical center next week, but might wanna look into other hospitals for this procedure.

    serious second thoughts

Hi, I am one week post-op and I must commend you on the research you have done. I wasn't as concerned with blood clots as I should have been, but luckily my doctor and the nurses were. Maybe to ease your mind you can ask your doctor what the plan is to help prevent them? While I was in the hospital they gave me 4-5 blood thinners to prevent blood clots and they put these cuffs around my feet and ankles that pulsated and helped with the blood flow. It actually felt like it was massaging my feet, I liked it. Once I was able to get up and walk I didn't have to wear them. The doctors and nurses just keep pushing you to walk. It's the best thing to help with clots and recovery. Each doctor and hospital is different, but check with your doctor. I'm sure that he/she will put your mind at ease. Good luck with your upcoming surgery .
  6. Although I didn't have as much to lose, I did not lose as much as I thought I should at one year. I called my doctor and asked what I could do. She suggested that I go back to day 1 eating and start there. Use two days for each week (week 1 liquids- decaf tea coffee, sugar free Popsicle, sugar free Jello, clear sugar free juice, broth) (week 2 full liquids - Protein powder with Water, thinned cream Soup, thin oatmeal, sugar free pudding, thin applesauce) etc. You know the drill. It takes a lot of will power, but it works. Don't forget to exercise and drink water and make your meals last at least 20 minutes. No water before, during, or after any meal - even with liquid meals.

  8. "The Institute of Medicine recommends that adults get a minimum of 0.8 grams of Protein for every kilogram of body weight per day to keep from slowly breaking down their own tissues [39]. That's about 8 grams of protein for every 20 pounds of body weight."http://www.dsfacts.com/protein.html Very interesting, this put me at a need for 120 grams I was checking out a fellow members post about weight stall, http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.html, incredibly informative and found this protien information. They also talk about carbs, http://www.dsfacts.com/carbohydrates.html, if your curious

    Time off of work

I just had the surgery last Friday and I'm considering going back to my desk job tomorrow (Thurs) for at least a half day. Not trying to brag, but the facts are I'm feeling great. I just flew half the day today and walked the airport terminal changes and drove around when I got home. I'll be back to work full time next Monday for sure. I had cleared working from home for two weeks but no way I'll need it. Everyone's different and your milage may vary.
  10. So I went to my local family Dr last week and he told me I have high blood pressure and this is a first for me. So he told me to monitor my blood pressure for a couple weeks before putting me on medications. My surgery is November 10 in Mexico & want to get my pressure in check before then! Does anyone have foods they would recommend to lower blood pressure? Did anyone have high pressure prior to surgery? Were you ok or did u go on medication to lower it?

  12. I had mine 3/29. I only lost 1.4 pounds last week and .8 this week. I have followed every instruction to a T since surgery and walk 45 minutes to an hour every night and go to the gym 3 times per week for weight lifting and cardio. I could just cry. I list 23 pounds the first month but slow since then.

    Vitamins & Pre op?

My surgeon has all his patients start taking bariatric level of vitamins 2 weeks before surgery to build up stores of them, because it's often hard for people to get in all the vitamins they need immediately after surgery.

It gets much better! I am 3 months out - you will eat again - you just won't need to eat large amounts because you will fill up so quickly. I still crave sugar but don't binge on it anymore. Hang in there!

I did greek yogart in week 2 and my sleeve loved it. Just get the vanilla or honey flavor to avoid fruit.
  17. I get the weird cramping as well. Kind of like a big bubble that forms in my stomach every time I swallow something a little too much. I personally didn't have a drain, but it is very common to have one after surgery. Best of luck! . Hello kb88 today I am 2 weeks post surgery and I am 10 pounds down feeling better the bag was taken out on the March 18 and the removing of the bag hurt really bad. I have to remember to chew my food very fine. I was surprise that my stomach only can hold 3oz of egg white. This week I will head to the gym but I realize that I have to pace myself. I have one problem and that is consuming 64 oz of Water I am not even at 16 yet is that bad?

    Bruises!?

11 weeks out. I had massive bruising too. Goes away without issues.
  19. I am two weeks post bypass. Healing good, no major problems better chewing can't solve. I can't wait to get back in the local rec center pool, are any of you swimmers and did you get back into the pool quickly? My Dr. says two more weeks, any suggestions for pace? I know I will want to overdo it, but will restrain myself.

    Any swimmers out there?

I am also a swimmer. I had RNY on 1/28 and I was back in the pool after 4 weeks. Before surgery I was swimming 1 mile in 35 minutes. After surgery I was down to about 1,000 yards for the 1st month and then added a 100 yards per week until I got back to the mile. I am now swimming almost 2 miles in the same amount of time! It is AMAZING how much better I can swim with less weight AND I am back in the gym working out with weights again! Give yourself time to get back into the swing of things but you will get there! Good Luck!

    June 29th Surgery....

My surgery was originally scheduled for March 17. I did the 2 week pre-op diet which was miserable. Like everyone, I had my doubts if I was doing the right thing. Then 2 days before I was positive for Covid and the surgery was postponed. Though I wanted to continue on a good path, I was not ablet to and before long I was eating like my old self. Every difficult thing I encountered due to my weight depressed me because I knew I should've been X weeks past the surgery by now. Most of the doubts I had disappeared. I realized how depressed I was it was postponed. Maybe it turned out to be for the best, because as the new date approached, I had almost no doubts. I was ready. The surgery was June 21, it went very well and I'm on the road to recovery. The postponement may have been a blessing in disguise. I don't know anyone that wasn't nervous, it's a part of the process.

    We Sold Our House!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks everyone!! Sorry I fell off the face of the earth. The last week has been so busy. I am trying to pack all by myself to get ready for moving to Oregon on June 10th. I am also making my way through the joys of selling...the home inspection was today. It is very strange to have some one look at every single detail of your house. We also found a house in Oregon. We put in an offer which was accepted. It was be official once I approve it when I fly up on Friday. It is in Beaverton. It is almost completed but will be part of a home show (Street of New Beginnings), so we will get it on July 15th. Only one month of apartment living won't be too bad. Thanks for all the support.
  25. Hi guys! Im hoping you all can get me through some of the doubts im having the closer I get to surgery. Im 25 years old and 360 pounds. Im terrified of the risk of developing a blood clot with surgery. I know the actual surgery has some great success statistics but blood clots are a risk to any surgery and that seems to be what im hung up on. I understand the mindset that if I stay this weight I will die but that doesnt seem as instant as a clot would. Im only 25 years old..not married and no kids..so the "I might die anyway" rationalization isnt calming me-no matter how true it is. To top it off the danger zone for blood clots last for weeks after the surgery and I dont know if I can handle that looming over my head. Before I got insurance approval I was very ready for my surgery..now im not so sure. Any advice or things your doctor's might have said about the same concerns? Ive got a novel sized lists of questions ready for my surgeon! Hoping for insight! Thanks guys!
