I Was Good Until The Vitamins

Condessa, I wouldn't worry too much about the supplements at this point. In a couple of weeks you will be able to do better. I have never taken Iron, which is very hard on your stomach and causes a lot of constipation. That would be the last thing I took as a supplement and then only if you were testing anemic. I started with liquid and under-the-tongue Vitamins. Now I take 11 pills in the morning and four at night in one swallow. It will all come together. Right now, concentrate on your Protein and Water and everything else will follow. I am a year out now. Since about 2-3 months out, I have been taking a Multivitamin, calcium + vit D twice a day, B complex, Biotin, Vitamin D liquid every other day, krill oil, and omega-3 fish oil. My lab work has always been perfect. My hair started falling out about 4-5 months out and then started coming back in about 9-10 months out. If your hair is going to fall out, it will fall out. It is not permanent and doesn't happen to everyone. My daughter didn't lose a single extra hair after her sleeve, but I thinned out some. Try not to obsess over everything. It will just make you miserable needlessly. Good luck, Kathe
  2. I just had my base weight weigh in and my first appointment with the LPN is in October. But I have all my appointments set and ready to go. Actually will be done with them before I visit with the LPN for the first time! Just started the south beach diet. My dr wants me down 5% before surgery. That is a requirement for all his patients. I would love to be down 10%. I'm on day 2 of the first phase and it's tough! It's getting better! I have a friend who did it and met another woman locally. I'm excited... Not nervous yet... Looking forward to a new and improved me!! Anyone local just starting out?

Just had my drain tube removed

I had a JP drain like that for 10 days post-op. I hated it and it annoyed me the whole time, but the worst part was when it came out. I'm with you that it didn't really hurt, but it felt like there were snakes moving around in my belly!!

    liver shrinking diet x 2

hi friends, I have been on my liver shrinking diet since last tuesday, I started off trying the milk n yoghurt diet but after running to the loo at tea time decided to do the food diet like last time, I have lost 10lb in 5 days, I will get weighed tomorrow and it could be more, I had put 6lb on since christmas, so am pleased to have got that off and a good start to being near to my 19 stone goal for the day of my op. I am finding the diet much easier this time and i think this is because i am having 2 eggs srambled on one slice of dry brown toast for the first meal of the day. I have a salad for lunch, 1 soya yoghurt and 1 apple at teatime and veg n lean meat cooked in my slow cooker for evening meal, i have being having 800 cals, 1 day i had 995, and lots of nas squash, tea with soya milk allowance. I am having mixed emotions this time, last time i was excited all the time, but as it was cancelled and 7 months later back on, until i wake up and they tell me it is done, I won't let myself be too excited. I know God is with me and my trust is in him, really hope i continue to be so positive and have no fear on the day, ive worked hard and waited 2 years 7 months for this, many friends are praying for me, thanks be to God, will write again before my op, x I know this is what i want and God is with me, its the natural feelings i have to ignore, and i will be so happy when i wake up to find its done. How i feel at the moment I would have it tomorrow.

    Exercised at Curves tonight!

Curves is a 30 minute workout, you hop on to the circuit anywhere and listen to the music playing constantly (but it's good music). Every 30 seconds, a voice will say, "change stations now" and you move to the next station. When you go around 2 or 3 times (depending on the club and the number of machines) you have worked out 30 minutes and it's easy, fun, but a good workout! It's set up in a circle, you have 8-10 or so machines that works with hydraulics, so the faster you move the machine (eg: pushing and pulling handlebars overhead and down to your shoulders) the harder it is to push and pull. You do that for 30 secs, then move to a recovery pad where you march for 30 secs, then move to a lower body machine...round and round. You work out all the major muscle groups with the strangth training and the pace is good cardio, they also have you check your heart rate every 10 min or so. I loved it there but they didn't have child care and I needed more aerobics/cardio anyway, I wasn't doing it at home...but it was a great start for me. Youv'e got a great circuit at home, good for you! If i had to wrok out at home, I'd have to hire a trainer. I just can't motivate myself at home. I'm too distracted by the computer...LBT is a great escape!
  6. I am finally myself again..ahhhh it feels so nice! I talked to my doctor and he said to start full liquid since i'm doing so good. I have ate: pudding, soft cheese, oatmeal, grits and can't wait to have everything else that's on my list. It's so nice to only eat a 1/4 of something and feel full I have never had that happen before. My swelling is almost gone and I drink and swallow just fine now. I am drinking my Protein down which the thicker shakes do still have a lil trouble getting down, it just takes it a while to make it down. I am walking and doing everything I was doing before, we even went to the grocery store yesterday! Life is going so good now and I am happy to report I am now at 260! Last month before pre-op diet I was 280:thumbup:! I wanted to kinda tell my day by day story of post-op so here's up to day 6. Day 1- In some pain but dealing with it okay. Still on chips and sips but can't hardly swallow them down. I did throw up about 4 times while in the hospital due to the swelling in my throat. sleeping mostly as the meds are still in my system. Taking it slow but trying to walk a couple mins at a time. I am going to the bathroom but it did take me about 5 mins of sitting there to finally be able to pee:mellow:! Just resting...later that evening I got to come home..Yipee! Day 2- Ugh, the worst of my days I think. I did take some pain med this day. Still walking as much as I can, circled the bed I don't know how many times. Trying to keep my Fluid in, swelling is still bad in my throat and my sternum hurts with every swallow. Jello and sf popsicles are the only things I can manage to get down. Resting, resting, resting the best thing to do! Not too much pain form my cuts, they are looking okay. Day 3- Getting slowly better at standing and walking longer. Done taking pain meds and taking liquid tylenol. Still living off jello and my popsicles, although I do notice that luke warm Water goes down okay but still have pain in my sturnum. Resting as much as I can and walking around as much as I can. Woke up in middle of night with acid:eek: oh boy did it hurt! I forgot to take my pepcid before bed, not making that mistake again. Waited abouy 30 mins and fell back alseep. Day 4- I have arrived, the first day I finally feel normal! Swelling has gone way down and I can drink and eat my liquids so much better! I slept for the first night all the way through and feel great! I can sleep on my stomach now (just have to be careful rolling over.) Taking no meds except my pepcid! Tried getting some protein in today with a shake. I was able to drink about a 1/4 of it. Walking as much as I want and resting when i'm not. My first full night's sleep..it felt sooo goood! Cuts are doing good and still not having any pain form them at all. Day 5- I'm me, I'm me...well just without my stomach:lol0:! Today has been the best day yet. I am feeling so good! I am able to eat and drink like normal (with a sleeve) and feel my sleeve has finally adjusted and relaxed! I still get gurggles and burp with I drink but I know that's gonna be there for a while. I really haven't had any major discomfort. Took my first trip out of the house to the store. Had to get things for my full liquids week that I start:thumbup: thanks to my doc okaying me to do so! Full nights sleep last night also! Day 6- FULL LIQUIDS! Today has been GREAT...I had some oatmeal for Breakfast. It was so nice to get to chew and swallow something thick! Pudding for a snack (about 3 spoons.) Grits for lunch and then some soft cheese for a snack. I have been doing water and gatorade in between. I did drink my Protein Shake but it was taking a long time to get down so I might have find another one to try. Today is my first day home by myself with my 19 month old and we're doing fine. I am getting full nights sleep and feeling good when I wake up! I have my 1 week post-op appt. on Thurs. I'm starting to love this sleeve:001_wub:!
  7. Hello all! I have Oxford insurance and WOW! I just got my surgery date Friday and the surgery coordinator just called me (10:30 AM) to tell me I was approved! :wink2: No supervised diet, and all I have to pay is $250 for the entire surgery and one night in the hospital!

    Newer You... older habits...

I definitely have the clothes thing going on, too. Most of my clothes that now fit are 10 years old that I saved and I really need to get new ones! I have started buying a few things and am amazed that the 14s are starting to get big. I tried on a 12 dress and it fit, but I didn't buy it yet. I really need to get jeans because my ones from 10 years ago are out of style and I am 5'10" and couldn't find them long enough back then (lots better selection now)! I always use the big stall in the RR, but will continue as I hate the little spaces and feel more exposed to germs!
  9. Had surgery yesterday at 10:45am. Lapband and hernia. Came home today about 7pm. They have me on pain meds that I think make me itch. I'm so sore around my stomach. But happy about my new life. I love this site...I'm going to need alot of support. Thanks everyone.

    i am struggling here

Will the swelling show on a GI? I am having one done on Friday while Bob is doing his pre-op tests? How long does the swelling last? It will be 4 weeks on 7/10. I too burb like a man and it's quite embarassing at times as sometimes there is no warning! Mostly it is at home, and although it's still embarrasing, generally it's only in front of Bob. It's a terrible feeling and I sure hope it goes away and I can be like others that say they can't even tell they had surgery other than they can't eat as much. I have the slimes/foaming under control at least.
  11. Dang that's a long time on liquids -- I thought 10 on clear, 10 on fulls was bad enough -- 10 on mushies wasn't bad, except that I was actually on them a lot longer than that -- I am just now venturing into real "solid" food and I do it very cautiously. Hang in there, you'll make it through it and watching the scale move down is always a GREAT incentive!

    True Test

I am 3 1/2 months out from surgery and just got back from a 10 day, tropical Caribbean vacation. The vacation was planned before I even decided to have surgery and have been stressed about going due to eating restrictions. I am back, and actually down 2 lbs. I average 2 lbs every 7-9 days now, so I was right on track. I had a cocktail each day (usually only got through about 1/2 of it) and stuck to the plan to the best of my ability. Due to flight issues coming and going, going to restaurants who didn't have what I needed, I was sometimes stuck with bad food choices but did my best to eat right (scraping off and eating only the pizza toppings, getting a chicken salad and only eating the chicken, getting fried food and scraping off the outside, etc.). I will say it was not as difficult as I thought it would be but am relieved that I can get back on track. Being on vacation with 10 people, none of who knew I had the surgery, made it a bit tougher. I will say watching them eat and drink in "vacation mode" made me a little nauseous - not envious at all. Most of them gained 7-10 lbs! Then I remembered, oh yeah, that was me not too long ago. So those dreading going on vacation, you can do it!
  13. Hi my name is Rubie. Is there anyone else set for 4/13/10? I started this journey in January; I didn’t think I would be at this stage this soon. I'm on day 6 of my all liquid pre-opt diet. I wish I could say I didn’t cheat. I confuse and scared. I really want to lose the weight and keep it off. Just need some helpful words and prayer to keep me strong. My start weight 240lbs /at the beginning of pre-opt 246lbs/ on day 6 240lbs.:smile2: Any advice would be great. This board is a life saver. By the way this my first post anywhere I think. I try to ask a question before but could not find out if I ever got and answer or where to look. Thanks

    C-Section and Lap Band

Hi. I'm not sure if there is a time frame but. I had my last c-section 8/26/08 and my band placed on 10/20/09... a year and 2 months later. It took me that long to get to my surgery goal weight. I'm sure I would have do so sooner without incidence. I would think that once your body healed... You should be okay....It's a totally different area.

    Weight Loss Seminar

I, too, have attended my weight loss seminar. I have an appointment with Dr. Bruce Jones of Jonesboro, AR on Wed., Oct. 26th. If all goes well--after my two weeks on liquid diet---I will hopefully have my surgery either Wed before Thanksgiving or the Wed. after. I am super excited. I got out some old pictures of me at 19 and oh how I would like to be that size again(AND I WILL). My husband and one of my best friends from work went with me to the seminar. My husband is supporting me 100%. He has always been very supporting even with my size. I hope to retire a much healthier person and be ready to travel---because we love to travel!!

    Normal? Ups and Downs?

If misery loves company, I'm right there with you. I just saw the scale and I'm up a lb again from yesterday, even though I ate well and spent an hour at the gym. I never care if its higher the day after a party or something, but doing everything right and gaining is so unfair. And to top it off, I'm in the middle of a plateau right now and I haven't lost anything for about 10 days. I, too, know this is normal, but I don't have to like it! Cindy

    C-Section and Lap Band

I had a c-section on 9-1-10, when i went for my lap consult on 6-24 she said it was perfect since insurance needs at least 6 months of diet attempts and fairlures. I documented 9 months from the time I had the baby and typed it up. If you want a copy of what I typed up send me a PM and I can email it to you. Have a happy and healthy pregnancy and good luck on your lap journey!! Cara

    First Fill?

Hello everyone I have my first fill appointment on April 10 th and would love to get some advice on this. I am not sure if the surgeon filled my band with anything when in surgery because when I went for my post op appointment of course I didn't ask . You know when you got to your doctor and you have so many questions then you just for get to ask ughh I hate that..lol. anyways I do not get hungry I actuall have to remind myself to eat most of the time and today is my 17th day post op. Is this normal? I'm not complaining at all but I'm not sure if I should get that first fill. When I do eat I really cannot take much in either and I'm struggling to get in all the water I need. I have been taking those whey protien shots just to make sure I get enough protien for the day. Any advice on having a first fill? Anyone not need your first fill? I'm not sure if it that I don't need it or if I'm just scared to mess something up in there.
  19. My surgeon said only 3 meals, no snacking and no shakes after I get to regular foods. I'll still be drinking my shakes though. I workout so I use them before I go to the gym. 47 pounds down since pre op diet that began on 10/5, surgery was 10/12.

  22. I am two months post op (to the day) from my sleeve gastrectomy, down 54 pounds. Been using a CPAP for about 10 years. Changed my life, and maybe saved my marriage, but I also can't wait to get rid of it! How long after surgery were YOU able to stop using your CPAP? What did you notice about sleeping without it?
  23. cornhusker

How long 'til you ditched your CPAP?

Surgery date was October 8. Had been using a CPAP for 10 years. Had another sleep study mid January and was told that I no longer have sleep apnea and could stop using it. Was down about 70 lbs. at that point. Haven't used the CPAP since. But, I would suggest that you see a Sleep Doctor if you have questions. I went in hoping to just get me pressure adjusted because it had become too high. My goal was to be off it by this summer. Was pleasantly surprised after the sleep study results. Although losing weight can certainly help get rid of OSA it doesn't guarantee it. I know plenty of slender people with it as well. Good luck.
  24. Okay, stick with me here, there's going to be some math. According to the nutrition guide from my surgeon: 1. at my height my Protein goal is 64-70 grams per day. 2. you can only eat three meals per day. 3. most protein sources that they list as "good" contain 7 to 10 grams of protein per serving (except tofu, which is 20). 4. most of the serving sizes are 1/2 cup. 5. at six months, they expect you will be eating 1/2 cup of food at each meal. 6. protein supplements are discouraged. 7. they don't expect you to hit your protein goal until you are out of the liquid stage. So, with all that, 7 to 10 grams of protein per serving times three meals per day is 21 to 30 grams of protein, not 70. What am I missing? My pre-op is on Tuesday, so I will be bringing this up then. I figured I would ask here first in case there was something glaringly obvious.
  25. It would really depend on your Protein goal. Since mine is 100 grams a day, I would have to have 35 grams of protein a meal (which is just not realistic for me). I can see it being possible if your protein goal was 70 grams. But, 70 grams is really low. Not only that but your body can't absorb more than 30 gms and hour so any meal with more than that is wasted protein. This is when Snacks come in handy. A protein rich, nutritious snack with about 10 -15 gms of protein is a life saver. For the OP. One of the things I do is split one bottle of Isopure Nocarb clear drink into 3 parts. I then add it to my 24 ounce Water bottle and refill that at least twice. Anytime I am not eating, I'm sipping. Isopure NoCarb drinks are 40gms. of protein per 20 ounce bottle. Between that and my meals I can easily hit my protein and Fluid goals.
