I had surgery on Jan 28 and lost 12 lbs post surgery from 296 to 284. I have lost no more weight. I have had my port flip and before they figured that out I went through 4 "B horror movie" fills one lasting 45 minutes while they stabbed at my tummy in seach of the port. I finally got my first real fill when they did the surgery to flip the port. 1cc and I just got a 1/2 again last week. I feel no change and am so disappointed. My surgery center and doctor have NO support what so ever on this process. Should I worry or should I get another fill? What is an average fill amount? I hate to sound so blue but it has become a nightmare. Thanks for listening.

Cinderella replied to sel1944's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc also said after six weeks, your stomach is healed and it will be OK to return to any exercise. I am ready to try some crunches too, but plan to start with a WII fit routine as I think it will be gentler.... good luck! Cinderella -
Went to see my regular doctor today. I last saw him about 2 weeks be for my banding. I had lost 26 lbs according to their scales. Guess that now to bad, but I wish it was just a little higher. I would like to lose 10lbs per month. I'm losing approx. 1-2 lbs a week. I know that is what they want you to lose, but I want it to come off just a little faster than that. I really haven't lost since I had my last fill 2 weeks ago. I seem to lose only when I'm on the liquid part of the diet. I will try watching my fats and carbs a little closer. I averaging 1500 cal per day and that is so much less then it was before my banding. I would think I would lose even faster than I am. Doctor was please with my weight lost, my iron was down and if its not back up when I go back in he wants to do another colonscopy a little early. I have to eat more iron for next couple of months. My hgbac1 was 6.5 same as in march, was hoping it would go down now that I have lost a little weight, maybe next time. Delaney had a seizure while I was at the doctor. I have been home all week, but not here when she need me. I'm the closer to the school than her mother and I can give her her medicine. She seem ok for now. So far today has been good. Its a little sticky out and my have storm later on today. Well must make some lunch. I'm hungry.:hungry::hungry::hungry:

Today was my appointment with the surgeon for a surgery date. He was stuck in surgery so I ended up seeing his assistant. The next available surgery date is June 4th. I know most people would be dancing with joy and excitement to get their surgery date. I've been on this program for six months straight and I had my heart set on May surgery. I know you have to wait 4-6 weeks to swim and I figured I would be able to go swimming on 4th of July. Not bummed about the food aspect or anything else, I just wanted to be feeling good enough to enjoy most of my summer swimming. I don't normally get bummed easily but today I did, I should have been so excited, but for some reason I felt frustrated. I received a call from my favorite Nurse and she's going to be my pre-op nurse. Thank goodness, she's patient and she's out of the same hospital I will be having it at. May 15th we will go over the surgery again, my medicines, tell me what meds to stop and when, which medicines need to be changed out, and she will teach me how to clean the drain, give me the spirometer and show me how to use it. May 21st starts my liquid diet. 14 days. I will be doing 3 protein drinks a day. We are only allowed sugar-free Popsicles, sugar-free jello and crystal light and decaff tea & water besides the three protein drinks. Today I had an appointment with my gastroenterologist, who informed me I have a hernia. That will be fixed during surgery I was assured.

I feel like I was hit with a baseball bat--and have the bruises to prove it if anyone wants to see, but liquids are sliding down o.k.--- How much am I supposed to take daily? And how much of this beneprotein? Help--I can't remember a thing=-=and all my papers say is "clear liq. x 1 week, then fulll liq". Happy as a clam, Kimberly

3/17/10 had lapband. Never, never, never had a problem with the band that I knew of. The problem I had was my surgeon quit the practice 10 months after I had surgery. Ended up switching to the NP in that WLS clinic. Never once in those three years did they ever fluoroscope that band, only right after surgery. But there again I didn't seem to have any problems, or so I thought. Anyway the nurse was to have called me regarding laps, after waiting six months (I had gotten the laps myself, but she had already po'd me) I switched doctors. He did the fluoroscope and found the band had slipped. I ended up having to have the band out and 10 weeks later had bypass. I did a lot of research during this waiting period, including the complications with the band which is now coming in. The doctor recommended bypass vs sleeve for me because I'm a diabetic and there are better results getting this in remission than with the sleeve. In my research bypass has been so perfected in the past 30 years I had to agree with the doctor. I'm not sorry I had the band as it started my weight loss journey, just wish more research had been done three years ago and I would have eliminated two surgeries. So I would definitely research all the major hospitals, Mayo Clinic, Cleveland, all of them and then determine what would be best for you.

WOW! Sounds like we are in the same shoes! I have been banded for about a year and a half. I have been doing great...no issues...until about 3 weeks ago I was getting bad acid reflux at night with a night cough. I went last week and my dr took some out. He wanted to send me for an xray but I have not gone. I have had another bad night of acid reflux so I am going to go back in and get a bit more taken out and go for the xray. This really stinks!! I know that when I have the acid reflux it is usually because I eat late and don't wait long enough to go to bed. It is hard with a full time job and going to eh gym etc. Good luck!

Wait, your doc fills every week? I can see that for perhaps the second fill, but soooo many people report that it can take two weeks or more to feel restriction for their second or third or fourth, etc fill, I'd be very hesitant to go more often than about three weeks after that second fill. You don't want to end up on a Saturday night throwing up everything you take in.

4 weeks to go, what shoukd i be doing?
Jamie Greatone Jamison replied to Mrs.FullerRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well the foods you need will depend on your surgeon's guidelines, but Protein powder is probably a must. Soup broth, sugar free Jello, and sugar free popsicles are probably going to be on there as well since they are pretty standard. Get a good blender and a good food processor if you don't have one. Depending on your surgeon's recommendations, you will move to pureed foods a couple to few weeks after surgery. Buy extra baby food! You and your little one might have the same dinner at night! I would try to focus more on the mental side of it though. Think and plan how you are going to do liquids when other people are eating (i.e. going to a birthday party or family cook-out). Start to wean yourself of caffeine now if you drink soda or coffee regularly. Start exercising now. Try to practice not drinking while eating. These are some things that will help in the long run. -
Yes, stlvoy02...it's been interesting with UHC, I talked with the BRS nurse a week ago and I hope and pray when I finish my last two requirements that it will go fast. Are you excited and does the waiting get any easier? Thanks,Carla

The last few weeks I have been struggling with guilt. I feel like I have been so selfish. I did this surgery "for me" then I spent 4 days in the hospital. (my wonderful, supportive husband took care of everything) then I spent a week helping hubby with kids (let's be honest, during recovery I was probably more in the way) and the last month and a half it feels like it's "all about me" I spend the morning with kids, go to work, make dinner, go to the gym, put kids to bed. But I feel like everyone is sacrificing so I can do this. With meals, time and activiities. And lets tell the truth. Since I became pregnant, I put everyone else first.... My question is, I have committed to this. I am not going to stop. I know I will feel better once school starts back up because I can work out when everyone is gone (youngest starts 1st grade) but how do you become okay with this? How do you ignore yourself for 12 years, then one day, turn it all around? I know there are people who have done this and done it well. Am I missing something?

A scale is not the only tool to measure your progress. In your case, it may not even be the best tool... Are you taking body measurements? It's possible that you could be getting smaller without losing weight. It sounds like you are toning and maybe building muscle, which is more dense and heavier than fat. You could be losing fat and gaining muscle. If you go to a gym see if someone can measure your body fat for you. There is a tool they use combined with a simple formula to calculate the body fat percentage (or go online and buy your own body fat calipers and learn how to calculate body fat percentage yourself). Keep checking every two weeks. This will show your progress in a measurable way. :-)

Agree with Laura about the shot glass. Set a clock by your chair or bedside. Aim for one ounce every 15 minutes while you are awake - either Water or your Protein drink of choice. I used a 1 cup measuring cup like a little pitcher to keep refilling the shot glass. It was a lot easier for me to drink when I broke it down like that instead of facing a big glass of water. I took my pain meds for almost two weeks and I didn't have any complications. It will get better. Lynda

I was diagnosed 2 years ago with Lymphedema in my lower legs. My cankles (how I call them) were huge and my calves soon became extremely large- I saw the vascular surgeon and he referred me for therapy- I went EVERYDAY for 2 weeks for banding and then wore compression stockings every day- Once the compression stockings started getting stuck where my legs meet my foot they told me I needed something more at night- ( I was wearing my stockings from 7:30 am t0 7:30 pm) so I got these Reed sleeves- they are like boots for your calves and have pressure straps that go up mimicing the banding and stockings- They are very cumbersome and I hate them plus they fall off at like 2am only after being on for about 4 hours because the swelling goes down. I was told my problem was due to my having auto immune problems, thyroid cancer treatments and being over weight and that when I lost weight the swelling would get better- My question is that if any of you have lympnedema and how long if you were cured did it take? I know there is no "cure" so to speak you just manage it from becomming worse and worse but I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOO over it and am looking so forward to wearing skirts and sandles but am still too conscious of my lower legs to do so... Pie Chart Question For Mfp
tbstacks replied to tbstacks's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That was what I was thinking. My doctor never gave me a set amount of protein that I need to be getting. The most he said at my follow up appointment was to be eating three meals a day and limit snacking as much as possible. I feel a bit lost compared to most people here on the forum. I guess I must educate myself. I only saw the dietitian once and that was while I was still hopped up on pain meds day one in hospital, and she just gave me a gastric bypass nutritional info packet, and said to go by that. It was disheartening. -
I "spontaneously" dumped (at least I think that's what it was) once about 4 weeks after surgery. It's now about 10 weeks after surgery and it's not happened again. I say "spontaneously" because I have no idea what triggered it. I'd been eating a sugar-free popsicle every day since surgery, it was my daily treat. That morning, I'd had a few blueberries with low-fat low-sugar Greek yoghurt (something I'd eaten successfully before). About 3 hours later, I had my usual popsicle and within about 15 minutes... WOW. Chest pain and pressure, nausea, the sweats, drooling... it was awful. (But no diarrhea.) It went on for about 90 minutes and I was pacing my house, trying to lie down, getting back up, hanging over the toilet, etc, until suddenly -BLEH- the popsicle came back up in one swoop. I immediately felt 100% better! I told my surgeon about the experience when I had a follow-up visit a week later and all he said was that he didn't know why that would have happened. If it ever happens again, my finger is going down my throat and I'm getting it over with quickly. Anyway, my surgeon's info booklet warns to stay under 5g of sugar to avoid dumping. It doesn't mention carbs or fats.

Hello, anyone have anything they did - or wished they had done as you started to drop the weight after surgery? I'm about 8 weeks out and just wanted to reach out to those further along or at maintenance and get thoughts, tips and tricks for success. Thanks

All of a sudden I'm having cramps on right side just below ribs. No new foods or anything. Anyone else experience this type of thing? My wife wants me to go to the ER but its not that bad, just uncomfortable.

Welcome to Bandlandia....! You are still healing, the first 6 weeks are to heal not to lose weight, any weight lost at this time is great, but not to be expected. I am 11 months post op and I thought in the beginning, What have I done???? I felt uncomfortable, thought I could feel the band, thought I would always feel the band. Now I dont even know it is there and I am 100% no... make that 150% glad I had it done and would do it over again in a heartbeat. You too will feel "normal" again, just give it time, you are only a week post op. You're doing great. Some of what u may be experiencing is the Gas they put in you during surgery, that has to work its way out of your body and can be a heavy bloated feeling.

Congrats! Thats my 1 year anniversary too! I love my band and it was just what I needed to get this weight off! I started using myfitnesspal.com to track what I eat and it has helped me lose over 7 pounds the last 4 weeks. I was overeating Yogurt! too many carbs.

Anyone Not Have A Pre-Op Diet?
vanb0052 replied to Lizzygirl079's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so jealous of all of you!! My surgeon actually is doing the 2 week liquid diet to show it can be done and to get a better understanding of what he's asking his patients to do. Kind of cool Good luck to you all with your surgeries! I hope to get my date next month -
Ok, so I started Insanity and Jillian Michaels: Body Revolution and switch between the 2 throughout the week... I'm kind of frustrated cause I've been really working out the last 2 months and I've been plateaued for the last month. Does anyone else had this happen. It's frustrating me. I also kicked up my Protein intake to 70+g a day... HW 332; CW 242; SD 02/28/2013; GW 175

I was having potato soup, yogurt, mashed potatoes and farina Cereal by the end of the first week. Not very much at a time, but enough to make me feel better. I mainly followed the Cornell University guidelines. http://www.cornellweightlosssurgery.org/pdf/dietary_guidelines_sleeve_gastrectomy.pdf Everyone is different. I certainly wouldn't over do it or add anything too substantial. Listen to your body and act accordingly.
