Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?
huskymama replied to armartin98's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My Nutritionist and my surgeon both told me I am to weigh and do measurements once a week and record them and take them to my appointments so I do that once a week not daily. Thanks! -
Don't you remember the one-month stall? You're in a stall. It happens. Be patient with yourself.

Recipe ideas: Pinterest or Skinnytaste Workout Ideas: YouTube has great short 10 minute low impact workouts that you can do after VSG. You can do anything, like walking in place, short walks, etc. immediately and I highly recommend walking immediately after surgery, but no weight lifting for 4 weeks, nothing more than 10 lbs I think. Foods: Without nutritional labels to see if it's sugar-free or not, that's a tough one. Obviously meats are high protein which is good. Cheeses have protein. Can't go wrong with meat and cheese. You already know about fresh veggies and fruits. No, I'm lost without my food labels. Sorry.

Hi everyone! Starting to lose motivation! Ive been sick on/off since just after Christmas. Its made my new job be put off as they are requiring me to have no symptoms for 48 hours before my start date. Ill go one day perfectly fine, the next feeling like death. Its been like that for almost a month. Ive done so many PCR tests in the last couple weeks and theyve all been negative for covid! Because with the increased covid cases here in Sydney i havent wanted to put my son or I at risk of getting it. My sons unvaccinated and although i am now boosted too, i have asthma and being so soon after surgery i wanted to minimise risk. Even put all the plans i had for school holidays off because of the rising cases. But then on Monday my son got his test back that hes positive for covid, he was really sick over the weekend. He caught it off his cousin who had been around one of her fathers family's kids who had covid and didnt let any of my family know about it until my niece tested positive and my sister let her husbands side know!!😡 Now im having symptoms again and going for yet another PCR tomorrow. Feeling like the new job will just find someone else at this point! Almost a month later from when i was supposed to start and i need no end to this. I cant even see my GP. Its just phone appointments and each time i have an appointment they just tell me to go for another PCR because its been a few days since the last one and i could have covid now. Its driving me nuts. I know this time i do a test its likely i will be positive because my son is and i cant exactly isolate him to one room but this whole experience the last month has really made me lost motivation. If im positive ill need to isolate for another 7 days from test result so potentially another 10+ days in isolation. Im now 8 weeks post op and wanted to be getting out and regularly exercising while the summer lasts but cant now because were in isolation! And because im a single mum this whole experience has been very isolating, because my family are also in isolation, i dont really have any friends to speak to either😣 Tips on keeping motivated? Any ideas for what i can do while stuck in isolation? All we seem to be doing is playing video/board games and cleaning, its getting boring! How to cope with isolation!

Don't be discouraged! At first, I only lost a few pounds after my gastric surgery - literally about 5 during the first two weeks. Then I stalled for a week. THEN the pounds started really coming off. I listened to a friend of mine who told me not to worry what the scale said - to look more at how my clothes were fitting. She even went as far to say that the scale would discourage me and then I may revert back to my old habits which would mean that all my pain would have been in vain. She was so right! I've gone from a 22 dress size to a 14 dress size! And I've lost a little more than 50 pounds at this point! I'm on my way to the gym for the first time since my surgery! I feel great - good enough that everyone says I'm glowing! And while I haven't kept to my diet (because living in New Orleans, I NEED FOOD THAT TASTES GOOD!!!) , I am still eating smaller portions and cutting back on sugar. I am losing about a pound and a half a week now. I just want to encourage you and anyone else that needs it - to KEEP THE COURSE and KEEP THE FAITH!!! As hard as it is, STAY OFF THE SCALE FOR NOW! Weigh yourself in a month if you want, but for now, use your clothes as your guide! The looser they become, the more you will be encouraged! After all, that's really what matters - that you feel comfortable in your clothes! The very best to you and all of us! Again, KEEP THE FAITH! YOU WILL WIN!!!! 💜💚💛 -

I have come to love morning workouts...I feel so accomplished and ready to start my day afterwards. I get up before anyone else in the house to go ride the stationary bike and it's my own private time to dedicate to me and being healthy. I also workout after my kiddo goes to bed. 3 days a week I spin for 30-45 minutes in the morning and then run on treadmill for ~30 minutes in the evening. 3 other days a week I do a 1 hour Crossfit class in the morning and then do 30 minutes of yoga in the evening. 1 day per week I ride the bike and then do some kind of cross training (bootcamp class, rowing, whatever). But I have been told that I do *way* more than the average WLS patient. I do it because I enjoy it though not because I *have* to. This is the part of my life that was missing/unavailable at a higher weight!

Can’t stop thinking about eating!
ValerieWest posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I am one week prior to surgery for the bypass. I’m doing my liquid diet and I’m sticking to it 100%, but I cannot stop thinking about eating! Every single thought that runs through my mind is eating, eating, eating! How do I stop this? -
I've regained the weight I lost

My surgeon retired three months after my surgery, which was 4 years ago!!! I had been seeing a nutritionist, but she wasn't helpful and it wasn't covered by my insurance!!! 😞 -
I think you are getting upset at people for just sharing and trying to help you out. Ultimately it is your body and your life. I was mandatory therapy by my surgeon before I had it so if you have a good Dr he/she should have you do that preop anyway. If not I would ask them for a referral or seek another Dr. You need a therapist who understands eating disorders and WLS. I hope the best for you! But be patient with people on here and don’t ask for advice and get angry at us. A lot of people have struggled with weight their entire life - I never did until 2018 when I was in an accident and after a few surgeries and a week in the hospital I was on a year of steroids. I went from 135 to 245 in a year and fought to get it down to 227 before I chose WLS. I’ve lost 30 pounds and am happy with that but frustrated I couldn’t do it myself. So when someone starts off at 300+ and sees you have a BMI under 30 it is frustrating to see you feel you need the surgery rather than do it on your own. I started with 35 BMI today my BMI is 31 - today after surgery on 12/22/2021 and 30 pound weight loss, you are lower than me - see my point? For the most part I feel people on here are very kind but also speak the truth 99% of the time. Again it’s your life and your body but don’t get so angry with all of us trying to help you. Good luck I’m leaving this post. It’s becoming a bit toxic for me I do wish you the best in whatever you choose

Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?

Ok doesn’t look like anyones been here for a bit except me lol. I have a question - I’m down 30 pounds and 29.75 inches. Last week I finally broke a stall and went down 3 pounds. Weird thing is I actually should be down 37 inches but gained inches in my biceps and one thigh - weird I know I think it’s lump fluid because I had the lump nodes removed from that groin as a teenager. I’m 4 weeks one day out. Has anyone else had similar changes in inches? Loosing and regaining? I’m thinking my arms may be muscle because I have been doing some arm weight exercises just 2 pounds. TIA -
Struggling
Gastric sleeve Rad-Girl replied to Anna3286's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Everyone... So i am only one week post op with a robotic gastric sleeve. I am feeling so much bloating, gas and a little pain. It's hard to tell if its pain or hunger. I have only loss 8lbs so far is that normal or should i have lost more??? I see people post they lost 20 or 30 and i think am i doing something wrong? I do well with getting in the 60g of protein but not sure if i am getting in enough water. The struggle is real. -
Yes. I had the exact same pain as well. My doctor said it was incision pain due to all of the numbing meds wearing off. I wore a stomach binder to keep the weight of my stomach from pulling ion my incisions on the right side. It worked and now the pain has disappeared. I am 5 weeks out from surgery. The pain started around week 3 but it is completely gone.

Doing it all wrong.

Perfection is the enemy of the good. The first few weeks can be a breeze for some and devastatingly difficult for others. We can only do our best. Push yourself to improve. Keep doing your best and you will improve. Good luck, Tek -

Don't worry you are not alone a lot of us feel like this, my dietitian said don't worry about calories at this stage as long as you are getting something in, however at this stage I would keep away from coke, maybe when you are 6 weeks out frozen coke might be OK. Maybe try sports drinks or water with disolveable vitamins in it. I lived of KFC mash and gravy during the puree and soft food stage I couldn't stomach anything else -
Drinking water gets tiring! 😪
huskymama replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I mixed 1/2 sugar free Gatorade with Water the first few weeks. Hot herbal teas are also great and I just started crystal light a few days ago but can only drink one a day I prefer the taste of plain water personally but I have spring water that comes into my house not city water. Maybe try buying bottled water see if that helps Also I get the big body armor light and drink a few ounces of that a day. My Dr and Nutritionist said it was okay to do. I have to drink cold cold with pebble ice except tea I like it hot from the sink not to hot but hot. -

I had buyer remorse but it does get easier. Gatorade sugar free was my savior. I’d mix it 1/2 and 1-2 with Water. You’d be surprised how fast you will be able to drink more. The first few days are rough and now I’m 4 weeks out I’m eating real food though soft and I feel human again. My little tummy is pretty happy most of the time now it just really hates all Beans in any form or variety. I still sip water and let me tell you I didn’t o ce just not thinking and it hurt like hell for a good 10 minutes - not worth it trust me. Take it easy I named my tummy little turd because it has a mind of its own. Kinda helped honestly I mean we go through the pain of having a baby and this baby is so worth it and needs taken care of with this we get nothing. So now I have my little turd who gets taken care of like a newborn (except the name of course.) and when it acts up it’s like a new baby needing something - a drink or a burp. I want to keep it happy and healthy so slow she goes lol Hang in there you’ve got this and watching the weight come down will out the biggest smile on your face - trust me you will be just fine -
My Dr told me set an alarm I’m to eat 6 small meals a day around 200 calories. Honestly I just turn the alarm off and finish what I’m doing 1/2 the time I forget until the next alarm goes off. I’m lucky to hit 700 calories a day but I’m only 4 weeks post op. Take some hair and nail Vitamins I had someone who had VSG tell me that and she didn’t loose very much like not even noticeable. Food is yucky to me too but I know my body needs nutrition. Good on the weight loss! Hope you can find something you like!

Honestly if you only have 30 pounds to loose do it without surgery. Go vegan for a month or try something but I wouldn’t have surgery. I went raw vegan and lost 20 pounds easy and felt great and full. I had to go off because life happened but I didn’t regain it. I am happy with the progress I have had the past 4 weeks since VSG but I honestly wish I had given myself more time being vegan and waited on the VSG. I was loosing more and faster, felt better, and had energy like I haven’t had since a kid. So no don’t do it for a small amount of weight. It isn’t the easy road or just to do for vanity. It’s rough - like reading, watching etc what others say about it still doesn’t prepare you for how rough it is. And you will have 6 scars from it. If your minds made up then go for it! And I dropped to 31 BMI day of surgery it didn’t matter it mattered what I started with. I wish I had asked more questions like you are - I would not have done the surgery. But I did and I’m happy with the results. I hope you will be too! Good luck with whatever you decide!

4 weeks out today VSG 12/22/21, and my Nutritionist started letting me eat real food ie soft real food Saturday and I had some chicken omg it was Heaven. Started the liquid diet before thanksgiving so it’s been awhile for me since I’ve eaten real food. My weight was 197 today so 30 pound total loss from liquid to today. The only thing I’m dealing with is I’m severely allergic to eggs now - big welts so Dr saw them said yep full blown allergy and my tummy hates Beans - all Beans I’ve tried them refried, hummus and I made pinto beans with ham for the family - had them in the crockpot 12 hours ate a few chewed well and back up they came. So I hope this resolves because I eat a lot of beans pre the VSG. I totally forgot to eat most of the mid morning to about 4 today and only got in around 500 calories. Other than that I’m super excited about where I am at. I still feel tenderness if I over do things on my right side where they removed the stomach but that’s it! No brain fog or vision issues at all. Glad to see you guys doing good and glad to finally be moving from the dreaded stall lol! -
I didn’t really feel hungry or interested in food for ages, well into my second year. Then I had odd days or times I didn’t feel hungry. Now I feel hungry every day - how I wish for the old days. Life was much easier then. Even though I wasn’t hungry, I still made sure I ate & found eating to a routine extremely helpful. I also made sure I was eating a variety of foods to ensure I was getting in all my nutrients. Yes my tummy could be very fussy, but I worked out the meat, seafood, eggs, vegetables, dairy & fruit it liked & slowly added more options. This also established how I tend to look at food now - as a source of the nutrients my body needs to function. Have a chat with your dietician & start trying to eat real food. Don’t try something once & give up on it because your tummy revolts. Try it again next week. Try simple, more bland food to begin then add the spices, etc. you enjoy as you’re able. Good luck.

Food Before and After Photos
Arabesque replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
USSR love it. Her head would have exploded I’m sure. I am fortunate that I have a very good, but very expensive, butcher who still has meat so I have meat for dinner but I tend to get the chicken, salmon & prawns I eat at lunch from the supermarket as they’re a lot cheaper. But the meat sections in the supermarkets are very bare. Honestly I am a bit fussy. but there are certain things my tummy just doesn’t enjoy plus I can’t do the spice thing at all. The available stock is so erratic. Like this week they had prawns (yay) but were marinated in chilli (boo). I’ve spent time over the last 2+years finding the best food options - best protein, best general nutrition with least or no sugar/artificial sweeteners, low carbs & low calorie. Last week I went to three different stores to try to find what I needed. All I found was three tubs of yoghurt, a couple of protein bars & … processed frozen crumbed ‘chicken’ schnitzels - the horror! Because I don’t absorb protein well anymore, being unable to buy my trusted protein sources is a a worry. Oh God, I may have to go back to shakes - shudder.
