  1. I don't have the premium version of My Fitness Pal so I can't see stuff like you can. Plus I just started Weight Watchers three weeks ago and it only tracks points. So this morning I was curious and I put my last several days of WW tracking into into My Fitness Pal and surprisingly my macros were really good. It's about 1100 calories/day. MFP showed that I'd get back into Onederland within the next couple of weeks, which is encouraging. I do enjoy tracking things.

How to Break a Stall (Step by Step instructions)

These are HILARIOUS! Got a good chuckle out of them. I'm in a stall or a pause or something right now due to switching diet plans but I expected the slow-down during a transition like this. These made me laugh.

    1 month post-Op work out/Exercise?

I can't remember back to one month post op as it's been 3 years, but I do remember going to the gym and walking and doing the bike and cardio stuff. I didn't do weights for a while due to weight lifting restrictions and didn't want to pull my incision or affect my new stomach in any way. Now I go to the gym 7 days a week and do both strength-training as well as cardio. On good weather days I walk outside. On bad weather days like yesterday I use YouTube videos and do indoor exercises, walk in place, cardio, etc. I don't have any home gym equipment, so I mainly do cardio and floor exercises. I'm thinking about buying some dumbbells. It sounds like you've got the perfect set-up at home to do plenty of fitness things on your program. Good luck!

    Driving?

I had VSG on a Wednesday morning and drove for 15minutes on the Saturday (airport to home), I had no need to drive after that for two weeks (covid quarantine for two weeks as I missed a deadline to return to my home state, not that I would have driven much in those couple of weeks if I hadn't been in quarantine). There was some mild discomfort but no more than sitting on the plane for a couple of hours. I felt a lot worse getting in and out of bed. I hadn't had any painkillers since the Thursday, though I did same some panadol on the Saturday for the plane flight. Follow your surgeon's instructions and go my your own comfort levels if you need longer than the recommended time until driving.

    Driving?

I never took the pain pills. Drove about two weeks later.

    Going back to work

I work as a bartender, so I'm constantly moving and on the go. Like others have suggested always having a fluid source at an arms reach will be the constant visual reminder for you to drink. Sometimes its hard and I go an hour or so without taking a sip but it's getting easier as time goes on. Also, I usually have an assortment because my taste buds have definitely changed post surgery and can be a little picky so I typically have at least two if not three options (water with lemon, gatorade/crystal light/, maybe a tea/decaf coffee etc)

    Driving?

I didn't take pain pills once I was home from the hospital, I had sleeve, by the way, but the reason that I couldn't drive is because the seat belt rubbed on my incisions. I drove about a week after surgery.

    Driving?

Every surgeon is different. I was told a week if I remember correctly. I remember popping down to my grocery store mid week two & feeling wrecked when I got home. My concentration was pretty crappy, I got weary quickly & my blood pressure was very low so it may also depend upon your recovery & when you feel ok to drive.

Am I really gonna lose weight?

Thanks @lizonaplane I’m in week 3 and couldn’t figure out why the scale stopped moving. It even went up two pounds and I’m only getting 500 calories a day. Glad to know it’s happens to others.

    What Was Your Biggest Challenge

My biggest challenge is shortness of breath post op. My gastric sleeve surgery was Dec. 22, 2021 and I started having shortness of breath with any type of movement about a week later. I’ve told my surgeon and I’ve gone to the ER. I had a chest x-ray, ekg and chest Ct scan. They all came back fine. No blood clots or fluid but the shortness of breath is not getting any better. If anyone has experienced this and can provide any suggestions please do. Thank you.

    Going back to work

I am 6 weeks post op and am struggling with the same things! I keep my water right in front of me but if I’m drinking then I am not working (need two hands to type). So I haven’t been getting as much water since going back to work. Luckily I work from home so at least the bathroom trips aren’t an issue. I’m not sure how I would deal with that in an office…

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

I'm in nearly the same boat. Numbers are nearly the same as you except I'm hovering at 344 at this point. I've managed to start walking this week. I figured that if I had a good week with adding some walking, I might break through the plateau... nope. Nothing moved today. My goal is 328 by Feb 15, but I'm feeling like I won't quite make it unless this plateau breaks soon. I'm focusing on adding fiber to the diet in the form of supplements and salads. Anything to help me get "moving". Hoping the walks help with that too.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Stall is over at last! I've lost 3lbs this week. I'm back! I suspect I'm going to be a slow loser but that was beyond a joke and I needed to see a loss again. How is everyone else doing?
  14. You look amazing!!! I can’t wait to be cleared to work out!!! I’m walking 2 miles a day and just over 2 weeks post op. This was so inspiring thank you for sharing it!!!
  15. Hey Guys! So I have a date (again), it's March 8th - meaning my 2 week "liquid" diet will start Feb 22. The short month of February makes me feel like I've been granted a shortcut somehow! Who else has a date for March??
  16. Hi. I had mine the 13th of December and am already on the third diet phase. I’m struggling a lot. I eating what I’m not and I’m regretting this at the moment. I’ve lost 35 in the last three weeks.
  17. Very impressive! Congratulations! I’ve lost about 50 lbs since surgery and 70 lbs total I think. Weightloss has slowed down significantly. I’m losing about 1-2 pounds a week max now. Fine with it though. Only a few more pounds til a healthy bmi 🤩
  18. Hello all, Has anyone here had a hiatal hernia repair after already having the sleeve? I was sleeved in 2014 and all was going well ( uneventful recovery, Good weight loss and maintenance) until I got pregnant with my second child last year. I started to have some bad acid reflux in my third trimester ( burning pain, shortness of breath) and found out during a barium swallow and endoscopy that I have a ‘small sliding hiatal hernia’ but have not been told how exactly how big/ small the defect is. I have dysphagia which is better some days but the most persistent symptom is shortness of breathe/ a ‘tickle’ in my chest that does not want to go away. I stopped my PPI a few weeks ago for the manometry test after weaning for a little while and the rebound hyperacidity has been awful ( thank heavens for gaviscon) In any case, i’m supposed to be meeting with my surgeon later this month to discuss results and like some of you, I would prefer not to convert to rny if I can have this addressed some other way. I would love to hear your stories!

My Six Day Step Streak is in Jeopardy

I like "Reps to the Rhythm" videos on youtube. It's my favorite "walking" type of video (although it's more intense and "dance-y" then some - so more of a cross between a walking video and something like Zumba). He has a bunch of different lengths of videos - and they're rated by color (I think the red ones are the most intense - but there's at least one blue one that I know of that's pretty intense - and my favorite one to boot). Anyway, the longer ones would give you 10,000 steps. Or you could do two or three of the shorter ones (he does include the step counts on his videos)

    Help

Stalls are normal post -WLS just like they were when dieting before the surgery. Follow your surgeon's guidelines on how much to eat, how much to drink, how much protein to get, etc, and you'll see results.

    Exercise

You can't lift much until at least four weeks out, but after that you're good to go. Start slow.
  22. Two things: - Emotions: definitely talk to someone about why and how you eat. Doing a journal with food + emotions for a week or two will be insightful, but reach out to someone. - Mitigation: we tend to really fall off the wagon if we have no strategies in place. I think I have literally 250+ snacks in my house at the moment that are better than saying 'oh f* it, I'm just going to have ice cream then'. That way, I never really fall off the wagon because there's always something to catch me (a Chocorite chocolate bar, light popcorn, popsicles, popped cheese ... you see where I'm going with this). We're all human, we can't be perfect. But sometimes, we can be a little better than 'disaster'.
  23. There are a few things you can rely on during the weight loss phase. One is that your rate of weight loss will slow as you progress. For many of us the month are the hardest because they’re the slowest in terms of weight loss. You’re still losing about a pound a week & this is fine especially considering you’ve been indulging lately. Stopping the indulging & getting back on plan is up to you. You know what you should be doing. Get the temptations out of your house if you can. Before eating ask yourself why you are reaching for food. Are you truely hungry or bored or seeking comfort. Do you need to eat or just want to. Then look for something to distract yourself. Read, watch tv, do a craft, go for a walk, clean out a cupboard, check your social media or this forum, etc. Sip on a glass of water or a cup of tea. Often waiting 30 minutes before indulging is enough for the desire to disappear. Good luck.
  24. Diarrhoea after surgery is quite common. For some it’s a one off but others experience it for days. A friend’s surgeon actually advises his patients to wear disposable underwear for the first week for this reason. She was really pleased she did. I wish I knew about it because I had to toss underwear - it could not be saved. Oh & beware the liquid wind. During surgery they fill your abdomen with gas to inflate the area so they can see what they are doing. It will take a few days for it to fully escape your body. You may notice pain in your shoulder. Walk around the ward, around your house, little & often helps. Give Gas X a try too. All the best.

    Panniculectomy worth it?

I’m a week out post op. I can see results already. My insurance paid for it. I was shocked that they would because although I had excess skin it wasn’t to bad. I can definitely see a difference though even through the swelling! My surgeon said that minor fixes can be discussed (ie dog ear and fluid) if need be. I’m 52 years old and my mother in law 79 yes young as well as my sister in law 66 years young are also going to get it! Lol on the meds right now so not sure if I’ve provided a little information/ personal experience to you. I think they have to refer to it this way plus liposuction and muscle repair isn’t included. I want to add that my surgeon went a little bit past my hips and I was like waaaa when I saw this!
