I am 3 weeks post op. I am down 15 pounds since surgery. I am usually drinking about 48 oz fluids and getting 60 gr protein and taking my vitamins. I am noticing that I am retaining fluid again in my ankles but nowhere near ad much as I used to. A normal day is a protein shake for breakfast, Greek yogurt around 11, cottage cheese 1/2 cup around 2, and 3 of puréed tuna, chicken or 1/2 c refried beans around 6. Occasionally I also eat 2 tbsp of pb2. I am afraid I am able to take in too much already. Am I overeating? Yesterday I was at 653 calories. Carbs were 52. I am just nervous I am not on the right track

Not losing-plateau, I don't know, wrong foods, maybe, what do you eat day to day? Help!
2muchfun replied to donna12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every food you mentioned with the exception of cheese, meat and eggs are loaded with carbs. Beans, oats, flour, yogurt, ice cream, lean cuisine etc are loaded with carbs. There are apps, programs and books everywhere that define and provide nutritional values for all foods. It does sound like you need more fills. And you're pretty much where I and many others were in the early stages of our journey. No worries, restriction and the green zone will come if you continue to get your fills. I would highly recommend you sit down with your nutritionist. It really helped me and I'm a know-it-all who thought he knew-it-all but didn't. Made all the diff in the world for me. tmf -

Well my question is why are you only eating chicken? I would get burned out too. I dont do carbs either because I cant lose with carbs. Where is your veggies and fruit. Eggs with fat free cheese, greek yogurt, protein bars with no sugar in them, tofu, good cuts of beef, diced ham, chicken salad, egg salad, tuna salad, black bean casserole, salad, shrimp, crab meat, taco salad without the shells, there are many recipes for high protein low carb meals on allrecipes.com Some people can eat carbs others can't. I am one that can't. There are so many foods out there that are good. Some days I only eat a half of cantelope. On those days I eat a protein bar or some lunch meat or a hard boiled egg. If I get sick of salad I take some lunch meat and cut it up finely add some tomatoes and banana peppers. It fills me up and works. If I ate the same thing every day I would get tired too. Make a veggie omelet out of your eggs instead of just eggs. You have to get creative with food. I have a good recipe for black bean casserole if you want it. PM me and I will send it to you. -

3 weeks post op & now gaining weight.... why ?
Darktowerdream replied to Arthur Belly's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Being limited to exercise isn’t a problem, I’m unable to exercise due to my own limitations. I compensate in other ways. Three weeks out is early to worry about 2lbs. My weight has tendency to stall a few days sometimes backtrack a bit then I lose a little. It’s even more obvious in the beginning. Your body is adjusting to the drastic Changes surgery has caused. do you have a nutritionist? What concerns me is that you don’t seem to be getting enough enough protein and might be getting too much sugar? Dairy milk and most yogurts (even plain) are quite high sugar. You need to be getting 0.8 grams of protein per kg of body weight or 0.36 per lb. of body weight. Usually from protein supplements with little to no sugar. I’d suggest products but don’t know what’s available where you live. Icelandic yogurt or Greek yogurt is generally the least sugar. I buy ripple milk (unsweetened pea milk) since it’s little to no sugar and I like the taste. I usually mix TwoGood yogurt with PEScience protein powder. Also instead of plain broth, bone broth has more protein. But you can get protein soups like here on BariatricPal. I guess some surgeons don’t give dietary guidelines or ones that don’t say how important protein is, and recommend milk, and other carb foods that can stall progress. That confuses me because then it doesn’t teach people to use the tool the surgery gave them. you will do ok though this is just a bump in the road. Do get enough protein though. you can’t afford to lose muscle. All the best to you in your recovery from a stroke. My mom was in a wheelchair over twenty years, Due two two major spine surgeries after a car accident when I was a kid, then she had a stroke. Thankfully she fought hard and is walking with a walker now. I hope success for you. -
I've been having one can of protein shake (35 g protein) and one bottle of Isopure (40 g protein) every day, and then adding in whatever I feel like as far as soup, yogurt, jello, or pudding. I know between the shake and the Isopure I am almost at my protein goal, so I don't stress out about my meals and just eat what seems good at the moment. I also wanted to add that I tried all the flavors of Isopure, and the ONLY one I can drink is Alpine Punch- the rest were just terrible to me, and the only way I can drink the Isopure is watering it down- 50% water and 50% Isopure- it makes a really big difference in the taste.

How do you get your protein in a day
mariamitani replied to mitz's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
My doc said 3 meals or 5 small ones. In the beginning I felt like I was eating all day because you can only get in small amounts at a time. As you progress things will change and depending on how you feel you will adjust how often you eat. I'm 6 months and try to eat eggs , cottage cheese , cheese sticks , lentils , milk , Greek yogurt, turkey deli smoked ,chicken , meat , fish , shrimp ,beans(black, red, white, fava , garbanzo) one of these at each meal and add a little salad or veggies on the side. For the first month I lived on protein shakes, chicken flavored protein powder unjury.com , yogurt drinks(salt ,garlic ,water, plus yogurt in blender),cottage cheese, greek yogurt. I tried the protein shots that are 3oz packed with 22grams of protein I couldn't do it!!! tastes horrible! I even went back and got whey a more expensive and supposedly better tasting it was still bad! Keeping track of your intake with pen and paper or myfitnesspal.com is what really helps me keep track of my protein. Congrats on your surgery -
For those who got banded this week and last
JeaLee replied to ronwifey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got banded on Feb 19th. I am going in for my post op dr appointment tomorrow. I can't wait to see how much I've lost. I was only on pain meds for 4 days post op. I have stiches but they are the kind that disolve. No bandages. I am still on liguids mostly protein drinks, soup, yogurt, jello. I do eat 4oz of malt o meal for breakfast and 4oz protein shake. I like Carnation Inst Breakfast and add a scoop of protein powder. Lunch is soup and 4oz of protein shake and dinner is mashed potatoes or soup and more protein shake. Jello, apple sause or yogert inbetween. Have you been banded yet? -

LiseSeattle replied to ronwifey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Let's see....I was banded yesterday! Still on pain meds...in a lot more pain today than I was yesterday...hurts to sit up, get up, bend down, etc. Definitely hungry but doing well with slimfast blended shakes, tomato soup, apple juice, lemon yogurt, etc. I have "tape" over my incisions. I noticed today that they are bleeding a bit so I put an extra bandaid on a couple of them. I'm allowed to shower now...but I prefer sponge baths from the husband (which he *thinks* are part of the recovery)! I don't know about sleeping on the side...I'm paranoid I will disrupt the port. Two Dumb Questions :)
lollyfidy1965 replied to Brandywine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try plain fat free yogurt sweetened with splenda, and add your favorite flavoring....cherry, vanilla, lemon...whatever you can find in the spice/baking isle. You can make it as sweet as you like, and make the flavor as strong as you like....with no added sugar!! -

Yes plain Greek yogurt does suck! Love the suggestions:) thanks gals! -
Only 4 days apart ???? I am doing really well at the moment. I contacted my consultant as I was struggling to eat yogurt and jelly as was finding it so sweet it was making me feel sick. I was told to try cut up eggs and also very soft mash potato. So for a few days I have been eating soup, eggs, soft low fat cheese and potato. Very small portions though. I think this was really early to have introduced these foods but so far I have had no reactions to it. I have also lost 8lbs since last Thurs ???? My pain is a lot easier and mobility nearly back to normal although I am not lifting or carrying my baby boy as yet. How do you feel now? Are you still wondering what you have done or are things easing for you now? ???? xx

Thanks @@BeagleLover ! The only food right now that really works for me is Greek yogurt ! It does seem to settle my stomach down -
So, I'm transitioning in between phase of full liquids and pureed foods. I'm trying to figure out how to get all my protein in while staying below 50 carbs. According to my Baritastic app, I'm eating about 60 carbs per day. Now, I'm under the assumption that I'm supposed to be eating 50 or less per day. I've been trying to ask my NUT, but she's super busy and doesn't seem to reply. My breakfast is usually a 1/4 cup greek yogurt. Lunch is a shake or soup with protein powder. Dinner is either oatmeal, soup, or cottage cheese. I've been drinking shakes every day for 5 weeks. I'm so tired of them. I need to find a better source of protein that has minimal carbs and fat. My protein goal is 70-90. Carb goal is less than 50. Fat goal is unknown, but I know that it shouldn't be much.

Should I be worried about Protein? Calories? Eating on a regular schedule? I'm doing 2 Protein shakes a day adding oikos triple zero yogurt to them to get in my 60+g of protein. Then having eggs, cottage cheese, or refried Beans in between. And getting in 48+oz of Water

Newly Sleeved
JustSkinnyMeInside replied to kbaith25's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on 10/8 and I feel the same way. Im on full liquids and can drink alot of clears and same with thinned yogurt i dont stay as full for long. I think it helps to drink crystal light in between "meals" to stay hydrated. I guess we are lucky that we seem to heal quickly! I was being paranoid too after reading so many posts where folks were having trouble drinking 3 oz Water. I was told its hard to stretch your sleeve and it prob wont stretch from liquids. Hope everything else is good for you!!! -

I was approved for social security disability June of 2013. I have NO ENERGY, TIRED ALL THE TIME AND ALWAYS IN PAIN. To top this all off i had ALL my teeth extracted the end of September due to 90% bone loss in my mouth. I have NO self esteem.. I am a LPN but have not worked in past almost 4 years due to MANY issues with my diabetes effecting my ability to work. I was approved for social security disability June of 2013. I have NO ENERGY, TIRED ALL THE TIME AND ALWAYS IN PAIN. -my dentures dont fit so i only go out of house mayvbe once a week. Yesterday i saw my dr due to my back pain is worse---he mentioned his concern of my weight effecting all aspects of my life and wants me to consider "gastric bypass surgery" --i am floored- i feel so lost, so alone and utterly disgusting. I am hoping someone here will be able to give me some advice or suggestions as this is ALL NEW TO ME- my main issue is -even though i am a type 1 diabetic i eat VERY LITTLE- i normally have a pot pie for lunch, a can of soup for dinner and maybe a yogurt for night snack--that is it- so if the surgery is just to limit intake i dont feel it would benefit me-- i dont get hungry often and when i do i eat very small amounts. I do drink alot of sweetened ice tea- i appreciate you listening ansd appreciate any help or suggestions. -
What couldn't you be without now?
Diana_in_Philly replied to JeezLouise91's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My food scale. Small plates/bowls (kiddie size - cheap ones from Ikea). My Ninja blender. Oikos Triple Zero Yogurt (15 g protein in a serving) Fairlife Skim Milk (13 g protein in 8 ounces) Premier protein pre-mixed shakes (I liked their taste best) I still use all of these today, 15 months post op. Best of luck -
Not losing weight - need advice
Allformyson posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a little over 5 months post op, had 4 fills. I started at around 245 and am currently 209 and haven't lost any weight in about 2 months. It is all my fault, as I had pretty good restriction with my last fill. I could probably go for one more fill but I'm holding off for now because of what is happening. I am very tight in the morning and afternoon. I usually eat 2 scrambled eggs in the morning and I can still get those down most of the time, but sometimes I have some pain (I think I'm eating too fast still). I was eating chicken or tuna for lunch and recently switched to Protein shakes because the solid Protein gets stuck more often and/or causes pain. The problem is that by dinner I am very hungry and I can eat anything literally! The problems with Breakfast and lunch don't exist at dinner and I probably eat too much. I am also finding I snack more on foods that will go by the band easier without the pain (yogurts, cheese for example). Is that strange to be really tight in the morning and not so much in the evening? I think I need to buckle down and figure out how many calories I can eat and still lose weight. I haven't done it before because I was relying on the band to do it all for me. How did you go about figuring it out? Thanks. -

Need Some Good advice
HeatherO replied to KRVAUGHAN20's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds like diet may be a part of the problem. Right now you probably don't have much if any restriction. Fish and yogurt are fine. Chicken is good for protein but you want to stay away from fried food with breading. Yogurt is very good for you if it is not a sugar laden variety. Most of the items listed are heavy in carbs. Typically our diets involve proteins first (lean proteins without a lot of fat), vegetables second, and if there is any additional room left high quality carbs such as whole grains are eaten. This kind of diet leads to success for most bandsters and also is a healthy enough diet to provide necessary vitamins and nutrients. One problem with eating a diet heavy in carbs/fats/sugar is that it does cause you to continue craving it all the time. Your blood sugar levels have a fast high quickly followed by a severe drop causing intense cravings for more. The best way to move away from these cravings is to give yourself at least one solid week avoiding all carbs/sugar. After a week, cravings start to diminish and will continue to do so over time. The band will help diminish the amount of food that a person can eat once they hit their sweet spot. However, the quality of food makes all the difference in making significant progress towards goals. Dietary changes are a necessary part of the banding experience. Good luck to you. -
You have to live your life. There are going to be ups and downs and mistakes. One mistake is to believe you will never eat tempting foods again in your life. It happens, and you just have to do better the next day. Personally, since i wouldve been able to eat 6 slices of pizza before, I dont feel too bad about eating 1/2 or 1 slice of thin crust every now and then. I eat that one and stop. If i want ice cream, i get frozen yogurt instead.
