I could only get small amounts of liquids down for the first week or so. When he switched me to full liquids, yogurt went down fine, but Water still caused that pressure in my chest....like swallowing a golf ball. Then, just before 2 weeks post-op, it stopped. I can now drink fairly normally. I don't really get hungry, just feel a bit "empty" in the morning. The full feeling I get now (am on soft foods) is different than before surgery. It is almost painful. I can eat about 4oz. Before surgery, if I felt full and there was a small amount left on my plate, I would finish it. That isn't an option now. When I'm full....that's it....done.

@@Knitchic I researched these ProYo frozen yogurt treats and you're right, while they are high in Protein, they are very high in sugar. You inspired me to come up with a frozen treat which was high in protein but low in sugar and still tasted good, so here goes: Premier Protein pudding Pops 2 cups Premier chocolate protein shakes 1 small pkg Jello sugar-free/fat-free instant pudding (dry mix) Prepare pudding according to package directions replacing milk with chocolate Premier Protein shake. I prefer to use my NutriBullet but if using shaker, shake for 3 minutes or until thickened slightly. Pour into Jello pudding pop molds or any popsicle molds. Jello molds hold 1/3 cup each and are what the Nutrition info is based upon. Place in the freezer to set (approx. 2-3 hours). You can use any flavor pudding. I also made vanilla. Nutrition (Protein Pudding Pops) Serving size: 2 pops (5 1/3 oz.) Calories 124 Fat 1g Carbs 13g Fiber 3g Sugars 0g Protein 16g Nutrition (ProYo) Serving size: 4 oz. tube Calories 140 Fat 2g Carbs 16g Fiber 3g Sugars 13g Protein 20g You can certainly have just one pop but I listed the nutrition info as 2 for a better comparison to the ProYo. Next I will try breaking up either a Quest Cookies and cream or brownie Protein Bar, toasting it in the oven and then pulsing it in my mini food processor. I think adding in a few of the crunchy crumbs would make for an interesting texture to the bar. I'll let you know how that turns out

:How do you get your high protein?
OutsideMatchInside replied to Tracytma's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't like beans or yogurt, so I mostly eat fish. I can't eat enough eggs, to make them worthwhile. I try to make sure I have 20g of protein per meal. I eat 4 times a day, protein first. Usually a fish fillet. I have no hunger so sometimes I get busy and forget to eat. If it is near the end of the day and I am short on protein, I have a shake, but those days are rare. -
I was on all liquids. I didn't have to do clear liquids. My man restriction was no thicker than a milk shake. I made my own shakes with protein powder & greek yogurt plus add ins like nut butter or spinach so yeah I was full on all liquids.

:How do you get your high protein?
BLERDgirl replied to Tracytma's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I do a lot of Beans, eggs, greek yogurt ( I use FAGE plain 0% ), nuts, cheese, dark green leafy vegetables and I supplement with unflavored Protein powder. I'm in a Soup mood so I'm making a orca bean/forbidden rice soup with collard greens shreds. Black rice is protein packed and full of Fiber & nutrients. I'll soak the beans overnight and then cook everything in the crock pot tomorrow. I refuse to sacrifice good healthy fiber for protein so I try to get a balance of both. It keeps me constipation free and gives me energy. -
What food to stock, before & after
BLERDgirl replied to gsusser's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Some things vary according to your tastebuds and also according to what your plan allows. I would recommend no more than 2 weeks supply of whatever Protein drink you like. Do a test run on unflavored protein powders. That sweet Protein shake taste got real old real fast. Being able to have some broth or soup with unflavored protein added was a real lifesaver for me. Major brands are Isopure, GENEPRO, Syntrax nectar and unjury. In the event that your tastebuds change post op, you have enough to get by. Stick up on broths and clear soups, greek yogurt, kefir (if you like that sort of thing) and a variety of herbal teas. Speak with the discharge coordinator about home nursing. If you are single and live alone, most plans will cover it. I didn't buy Popsicles, pudding or mashed potatoes even though my plan allowed for it. Read the directions and prep your vitamix. I don't have one but I have a nutra bullet that has been a saving grace. You may need to sleep propped up a bit so perhaps buy a wedge pillow or extra pillows for comfort. -

Walden farms makes a good calorie free blueberry And chocolate and strawberry sauces that you can mix with Greek yogurt and protein powder For a high protein snack/meal -
At about two weeks post op, I had the strangest craving for foods I had not had for many, many months prior to surgery. I craved fried Okra, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, white gravy, corn bread, tamales, flautas and just crazy combos of food. I wanted to dip cheese sticks in hummus and carrots in plain Greek yogurt. It has gone away some but not completely. I don't get it. Oh and when I eat like a thin slice of deli turkey meat with some cream cheese spread, I want Salt n' Vinegar chips. I haven't had Salt n' Vinegar chips in about two years. Weird.

How invested are you in the idea of healthy weight loss?

High Protein foods include fish, chicken, lean meats, cheeses, eggs, yogurts, Beans, nuts, vegetables. If you are talking about post-op, right after surgery, which is where I am at 4 days out, I am relying on clear Protein drinks (40G per bottle), unflavored Protein powder (26g per scoop) added to Jello and broth. Tomorrow, I can transition to Soups (adding protein powder), smooth yogurts, soy milk, and ready to drink non-clear vanilla/chocolate protein drinks in an attempt to get in my protein. -

It takes a while to get up to that for most people. Once you can move on to real foods it gets easier. chicken, fish, cheese, yogurt, etc. -
Protein Shaker Forever?
Spiceyfrog replied to zackly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am four months post op and still drinking one shake (33 grams of protein) per day. My surgeon only requires 50 grams per day and I struggle with that, so I would never be able to get to 70. I can only eat about 1/2C at a time, so I still eat high Protein everything, cottage cheese, cheese, greek yogurt and a very little bit of meat (only because my pouch does not tolerate most meats). -
So, I'm about 7 weeks post-op and came to visit me friend for a week in Eastern Europe. It has been really hard to find things that my stomach is used to and are low in fat and sugar. The portion sizes are much smaller than in the US, but the food can be equally unhealthy (fried cutlets are very common even when the menu doesn't say it's fried). I've also not found any sugar free drink powders or Protein powders that are low in sugar. I commonly eat Greek yogurt at home and rely on it for a decent amount of protein each day... but all of the yogurt here has less than 5g of protein per serving (i couldn't find Greek)... it was very low in sugar. I did find two new teas that I really liked and settled my stomach. They're so simple I don't know why they aren't commonly served in the US. The first was simple fresh mint leaves and the second was minced ginger... just steep and drink. Luckily, I came prepared with my own protein and have been okay... But it's a lesson in not making assumptions about what may be available away from home.

How invested are you in the idea of healthy weight loss?
jess9395 replied to skinnyrita's topic in Food and Nutrition
I express my opinions but usually in a "this works for me" way, not a "this is what you should do" way. I also listen to what works for others, take some and leave the rest. I think the question "how invested are you in heathy weight loss" doesn't quite represent the discussion happening here, but that's OK. I consider myself quite invested in health--healthy weight loss, physical fitness (I run 20+ miles a week and do yoga 3-4 times a week), nutritious unprocessed foods. But I am also about balance, moderation and not setting myself up for failure. I eat "clean" for the most part 80% of the time or better, but this morning after my half marathon I had a donut! I also ate (and still eat) Wendy's chili early out--I couldn't eat lettuce early out so that wasn't an option. I have a few things I do regularly that don't count as "clean" and I don't avoid GMO food or eat organic, but I do include only healthy whole grains and avoid white sugar, white carbs, etc. I don't eat chemically fake low fat/sugar free/fat free, except in my Greek yogurt on occasion. So I don't know where that puts me in your scheme of things, but I guess what I think is its not an all or nothing for many of us. I can't get in to that all or nothing thinking, it's not something that works well for me personally long term. Because if it's not ALL I'm a failure and so it must be NOTHING and I give up. That's something I learned in therapy for many areas of my life not just food. So... That's where I'm at. Take what you want and leave the rest! -

As far as weight goes I'm trending about a pound a day. Surgery weight was 229. Today I'm 225. I'm perfectly fine with that. Someone told me you come out of surgery ten pounds lighter. That wasn't the case for me but a pound a day is a great trend. I'm shooting for five a week just so I'm not disappointed. I'm eating (drinking) broth. Decaf with almond milk. Jello. Yogurt. Water. Protein shakes. That's about it but it's fine actually. Still zero hunger. Gas gets better everyday.

Protein Shaker Forever?
Ashlegal replied to zackly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am five weeks post-op and do one Protein shake daily. I am only requested to get in 50 grams of protein a day. My Premier Protein Shake has 30 grams and I get another twenty in from yogurt, cottage cheese, lean meats (canned tuna, salmon, shrimp, imitation crab) and soft cheeses. I eat 5-6 small meals through out the day and don't overwhelm myself with getting x amount in each time I eat. I meal plan the day before and that is how I know I am getting in enough protein. Some days if I am not feeling so hungry, I will up my protein shake to 1.5 giving me 45 grams of protein. Then I will eat an Oikos Triple Zero (15 grams of protein) the rest of the day. It is absolutely a chore to get in fluids, Proteins and Vitamins in daily. You just have to try different things and through trial and error, you'll get there! Good luck! -
What were your favorite first "solid" foods?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to FocusOnMeNow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My favorite first solid food was and is cheese! My favorite soft food was cheese, too! It would have been my favorite liquid food, too if I could have found a clear liquid cheese. But seriously, my favorite soft and solid foods are generally the same: tuna, salmon, shrimp, scallops, turkey, meatballs, ground meat, turkey burgers, black bean burgers, pork tenderloin, yogurt, fresh fruit, green Beans, fresh sliced tomatoes, steak, refried beans, and cheese. The biggest treat when I was cleared for regular foods was Greek (gyro meat, feta, tzatziki sauce, hot sauce, no pita, no rice). I did have a bite of stuffed grape leaf. I didn't really start salad/lettuce until later. -
I would say first off you aren't eating enough and you aren't meeting Protein goals. I would add at a minimum an afternoon snack something like yogurt with a bit of fruit and a tsp of flax or wheat germ sprinkled on top would also address the constipation issues you previously mentioned. I would look into something like the the Isopure nocarb drinks or Syntrax nectar to help increase your protein and Fluid intake. I would also try walking for at least 15 - 20 minutes a day. Exercise helps jump start your metabolism and appetite. I would also call the doctor. Still having trouble eating at 8 weeks out is not a good thing. ETA: If you can tolerate it. I would even add a tiny bit of spinach to that 1 egg. Spinach had Vitamin A, K, folate, Fiber, Iron and protein. I would also add a tiny bit of Protein powder to the the afternoon yogurt. That would increase your protein intake.

Breakfast- 1 egg , cheese Lunch- tuna Dinner- turkey I don't eat much but when I do it's usually the stuff above, also aguacado and yogurt. I started at 195 and now I'm 175 been like that for 3 weeks. As for Water no I don't have 8 cups a day. I have 4 on a good day. I don't work out, however on weekends I clean my 2 story house and I do break a lot of sweat.
