How Did You Decide On A Goal Weight?

I was thinking of when I weighed 169 pounds right before I had my daughter, although I was only 17 I remember being very firm and very athletic. I would deff describe my built as a large frame. I haven't been under 200 pounds in over 29 years so I have no clue what it even feels like. The closest I ever got down to was 259, I have to say I really felt good and comfortable even at that weight, even though it didn't last long before I would jump right back up to 300. This is my heaviest ever right now, i had gained 70 pounds in 9 months of 2011. I was soon diagnosed with having an underactive thyroid and I don't know if that amount of weight gain contributed to it. I think out of everything I learned with my ups and downs with the weight is how tiring it becomes, the feeling of being so uncomfortable has to be the worse. Moving, simple things like bending and just getting around is complicated at this weight.

    Sleep Apnea...ugh why???

I am a sleep Lab technician, and I also have sleep apnea. So does my husband. My husband suffered 4 heart attacks, by-pass surgery, and now has a pacemaker because of the damage done to his heart. We didn't know he had sleep apnea until after the by-pass surgery. The damage had already been done by then. He now sleeps with his CPAP every night and even during his daytime naps. After his heart surgery and before the CPAP, he was going to his appts. in a wheelchair. Now he is fishing again, even 4-wheeling on his good days. He still has a damaged heart, but he feels so much better with his CPAP. The reason the physicians want us to have a sleep study done is because you can run into problems during and after your surgery. If you have sleep apnea, not only do you have respiratory events where you have no air flow, but your oxygen level can go down drastically. That leaves you open for blood clots, heart attacks, strokes, etc. My physician says he has almost lost some patients right after the surgery because of untreated sleep apnea. I have watched oxygen levels go to 59% in some patients, and their heart rates go down into the 40's. That's not healthy folks. Sleep apnea can cause so many things in our body, from depression to weight gain. How about that? Headaches, irritability, problems concentrating, decreased sexual drive, just to name a few. sleeping with a small nasal mask is such a small thing compared to sleeping with a pacemaker or oxygen or even becoming paralyzed with a stroke. There are many companies that make CPAP masks and you don't have to wear the first one the medical supply company fits you with. Shop around, there are even nasal pillows, which is what my hubby wears now. Much more comfortable. Gel masks are great too. I tell my patients that wearing a CPAP is like sticking your head out the car window or riding in the back of grandpa's pickup truck. Sure it's aggravating, but like the others have said, once the weight goes, the sleep apnea is controlled even better. Having sleep apnea won't kill you, but letting it go untreated will cause some major damage and will kill you eventually. Reggie White (NFL player) was diagnosed with it and after his death his wife said he refused to wear the CPAP. Watching someone come in who has it and hear them say after they are titrated "WOW, I feel better than I have in years!" the morning after is the best part of my job!

I don't think I can do this anymore

i haven't had any blood work done in awhile not since i stop seeing my doc that did my surgery. I think i have a hormone imbalance or something though. I find myself literally craving something sweet or sugary so much that i have no control over myself. I used to be so good and doing that controlling what i would eat and how much. I haven't had but one fill which they messed up so no i have no fill as of right now but am trying to schedule one next month. Im just depressed, i don't know if it could be because of my hormonal imbalance or what maybe it's my birth control pills but i have never been this bad before. I am newly married and I think my husband is ready to throw me back he's a sweet man but i put him through so much, im so short tempered now and i never used to be that way. I know im an emotional eater but this is ridiculous. I have an apointment with the doc today to discuss my birth control pills and see about the hormonal imbalance. IM just scared that i have sabotoged my band so much and that my eating habits won't change. I will ask her when im there today about the blood work. Does that have something to do with how i am feeling or my weight gain or ?? Thank you so much Cindy

    Turtle Tribe Role Call

I'm here, I'm here. I just posted on the 'Slow Loser' thread. I have an awesome new job that unfortunately requires that I travel more than 3 weeks out of every month. When I'm on the raod, I don't have an opportunity to check in, except on weekends. I'm still turtleing along here. No weight loss, in.... I don't know... three months?!?! But - no weight gain either! And that was through the holidays AND a CRUISE. There is no way I could have done that without my band. Hang in there turtles!

    Too much at once?

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I had my bat wings, moobs, and tummy tuck all in one go. I'm now 19 days post-op. I had 6 JP drains. The 2 in my arms and the 2 in my chest came out after a week. The 5th one in my groin got clogged somewhere around 2 weeks, so it was removed. The last one is still draining about 85cc / day of a slightly yellow, mostly clear liquid, so I really doubt it'll come out at today's visit. The day after surgery, they tried to stand me up. I passed out, probably because of low blood volume. Because of that, I spent a total of 3 days in the hospital, but by the end I was doing laps around the nurses' station. I had a button for pain meds & an IV antibiotic while I was in the hospital, plus Norco (hydrocodone + tylenol 5-325). A Norco every 4 hours actually worked better for me than the button, and that's exactly what my doctor prescribed for me to use at home. I also tried 500mg tylenol to see if I could get off the harder stuff sooner, but nope. I went from Norco every 4-6 hours down to just a Norco at night, down to nothing. I've been off all pain meds since day 15. The scale numbers are just plain depressing with all the fluids (and probably weight gain from being out of the gym),. My shirt size is now a men's medium! I was somewhere between a large / XL. I started working from home at day 14. I'll start going back in to the office on a regular basis once this last drain is out. Here's some tips I learned: You need lanyards for the JP drains. The nurses will pin them to your hospital gown, but once you start showering, that does you no good. Amazon sells a box of 25 for under $10. Use Glad Cling-wrap once you've only have a drain or two to keep dry but have otherwise healed up enough to shower. Don't be afraid to cut a hole in the butt of your compression garment for #2. My particular compression garment looks like a men's one-piece swimsuit from the 1920s. It has clasps and a zipper down the front. It also has a hole in the front for #1, but no flap in the back for #2. Especially with drains in your arms, it'll be hard to get in and out of the garment to use the toilet. The compression garment I got tended to roll up my thigh and cut off the flow, so my thighs collected a lot of fluid. A bed wedge or pillow + workout tights under the garment worked wonders for this. I wish I had a tip for getting rid of the glue from all the bandages. Nothing worked. I tried water, soap, ice, oil, and rubbing alcohol. I had to scrape it off with my fingernail.
  6. Three years ago I had set my mind into having bariatric surgery. I searched information on the internet and came across lapbandtalk. Through this website I found the information I needed to make a decision and a commitment to have lap band surgery. I lost about 50 pounds before I was banded in Sept 2011. I lost another 60 pounds by Feb 2012. I felt like the model lap bander. I loved working out. I loved Protein shakes. Everything was easy peasy. I had a really bad break up from my boyfriend on Valentines day, 2012. After that day, I just didn't care anymore what happened to me. I gave up. I ate with reckless abandon. Fast forward to now. I have gained ALL but 24 pounds of my weight back. I finally went back to my surgeon a few weeks ago after my gastrointestial system began rebelling and causing great discomfort. He removed all the Fluid in my band and sent me for an upper GI series. Thank goodness everything was ok with my band. I just got home from seeing the surgeon. He and I had a very long discussion about the band, my weight gain, and where to go from here. We discussed having gastric bypass. I am cautiously considering this as an option. In the mean time, I have to give my band another try. The surgeon gave me a 3cc fill. He is sending me back to the nutritionist and the psychologist. I know I have it in me to get it back on track, but I need some help. So I am reaching out to the good people at the place where I began this journey. I would love to find a texting buddy or email buddy that will hold me accountable and encourage me to make positive choices.

    Water!

Like I said my psychologist is aware of how I am. And no I do not think eating a healthy homade soup everyday is a problem. You do not have to eat a ton of food to lose weight. Soup has a ton of nutrients in it including Protein. It is not canned food with tons of salt and preservative. In fact my nutritionist wrote down the recipe. I will continue to drink the 30 grams of Protein Drink as much as I can. My primary doctor will also check on me and I go to both a psychologist and a psychiatrist. So I am good. In fact it was my psychiatrist a gift for me to even get the surgery. Because she knew how much this weight gain bothered me. I am in good hands if my doctor seems any kind of life threatening issues he will make me get it reversed. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App
  8. Yeah, I have to do all the standard things like 6 months of supervised weight loss visits, nutritionists, psych, etc... I just thought the weight clause was particularly cruel. I'll be taking @summerseeker advice and putting heavy things in my pockets. LOL I can't even tell what stage my cycle is in to make sure I go in with the period bloat (hysterectomy) so that's super annoying. @SleeveToBypass2023 I don't get an option about which insurance plan we have, this is through my partner's workplace. It costs too much to go with someone else. But I'm glad you didn't have to fight as hard to get your surgeries, BCBS was good when we had them! @New To This23 That sounds like a nightmare! I am so sorry you are going through that! I am worried about this scenario because my body is given to weird spurts of weight gain that have nothing to do with what I'm eating or how I'm exercising. I did 18 months with a nutritionist and lost 10 lbs, which was really due to the Ozempic I started. LOL I've never been able to lose more than 15-20 lbs, my body is just wicked stubborn. I will keep my fingers and toes crossed that you make that weigh in with room to spare!! Keep us posted!

2 months post op lap band

That's great. I was banded on 6/17 and I've lost 20lb-had my 1st fill 2 woks ago and feel a little restriction but I so conscious about what goes in my mouth, I'm not really clearing 800 calories and I can get on the scale from morning to night and have 4 lb weight gain...how does that happen??? I'm going for a 2nd fill on 8/2. I workout like a mad woman. I don't know what else to do, I was losing weight more consistently before the band.

    Low metabolism?

Hazel...I totally AGREE, one can't expect to eat 3-4 oz of food FOREVER, it's just not doable nor is it healthy long term. Remember these posters that are DISAGREEING...are only 1-2 years post op and their metabolisms has not REALLY regulated at this point, so anyone who gets their bands emptied in the 1-2 year can easily "diet" and exercise to keep their weight off. A damaged metabolism really don't happen until a few years later, but again everyone is different and have different body makeups. However...like I said BEFORE...everyone that I've known -- and I've followed thousands lap banders over 8 years have regained weight when they got their bands emptied...some were able to keep weight off after band removal for a year...but MOST gained their weight back if they did not have a band or "restriction" longer than 1-2 years. Here is cited material on Weight gain, and Pouch dilatation with both RNY and the lap band after a few years post op. http://jcem.endojour...91/11/4223.full Mechanisms for Weight Regain One possible mechanism for weight regain seen after 1 yr is increase in energy intake. Sjostromet al. (11) reported daily intakes of about 2900, 1500, 1700, 1800, 1900, and 2000 kcal/d, respectively, at baseline and 6 months, 12 months, 2 yr, 3 yr, and 4–10 yr after surgery. The role of energy intake in weight regain may be greater than that observed because subjects tend to overadhere to their dietary recommendations on the day that the diet is assessed (25). Late pouch dilatation has been reported in patients who undergo laparoscopic Gastric Band surgery (28) and is the leading indication for conversion of GB to a RYGB (29) but is seen less frequently after RYGB surgery (30). Revision surgery to correct these changes leads to improved weight loss (28, 29). However, these complications have been described in only a handful of patients, implying that other factors may be involved in modulating weight regain after bariatric surgery. Regular physical activity is an important factor in weight loss maintenance (31). According to one survey in RYGB patients with a mean follow-up of 7 yr, successful patients (those who maintained at least 74% of their initial weight loss) exercised regularly (no details given) (32). In the prospective study by Sjostrom et al. (11), the approximate proportion of bariatric surgery patients who reported being active at work changed from 70% at baseline to 90% at yr 1 and 80% at yr 10. The proportion of patients who were active during leisure time was 55, 90, and 80%, respectively. The difference in the proportion active at work and during leisure time between the surgery patients and controls was narrower at 10 yr than at 1 yr. This may explain some of the observed weight regain seen in the surgery patients. Also physical activity may be overreported and thus needs to be assessed objectively. Whether increased physical activity in bariatric surgery patients is effective in weight loss maintenance remains to be proven by randomized trials.
  11. So glad to find this post because I am also over 2 years out with my band and lost 65 pounds the first year and then put on 30 pounds the next year. I am really struggling, but like the suggestions here. I have a terrible addiction to sweets which seem to go down just fine with the band so I know my weight gain is due to too many calories in and little to no exercise. It is time I get back in control and like the idea of going back to the shakes. Thanks so much for the advice. I should have come on here a long time ago. It is nice to know that I am not the only one struggling.
  12. Well, If you have ever Dieted, lost weight, then gained it back over and over. "I see you have" This band can help prevent this. You might fall of the wagon, say,,, if you were to have a unfill for a reason. As soon as you see the scale going up ! You can stop, and get yourself back to the basics without any trouble. "I'll bet you can't do that now, or keep it going in your future..." Then, once filled again, you stay back on track. It really is a great tool. Also, I am addicted to food. certain foods "TRIGGER FOODS" could set me off ! Now ! I don't miss them, and I don't eat them. If I have a chip or two, I can deal with it because of the resistance from the band. The resistance takes away that drive to just sit back and eat, or go out to a Restaurant, and go in to the kitchen, and start cooking. My food bill has dropped allot ! So yep I know what your talking about, and I have lost weight, and it's still coming of. Also remember that yo yo dieting is very dangerous, and will really mess up your Matabilissim. That means more weight gain.....

    Frustrated

Ok, this is my 2 cents worth, take it for what you will... Sounds to me like you are eating mostly sliders, which tend not to keep you full the 4-5 hours it should. So you are likely eating more calories than you should. Calories are calories not matter the form. The weight gain may have caused your band to get tighter, making it more difficult to eat solids. Which would mean you need a slight unfill, even a cc could make a difference. Questions to ask yourself- Are you drinking enough Water? Are you taking small bites and chewing well when you attempt to eat solids? Are you making good choices with the food you are putting in your body - good carbs, healthy Proteins, Fiber? A trip to see both the doctor and nutritionist maybe all you need to get yourself back on track. You can do it, just have faith. You haven't failed until you give up!

    Where To Go Next

I do have the PCOS, and am diabetic, in fact on double the insulin I was on prior to surgery which just adds to weight gain so thats why we just switched some meds around.. blood sugar in better control but more meds then ever and no weight loss.

Comments from others that mess with your head

If it happens again, throw something at her, like a gym shoe. That should work. Seriously, steer clear of toxic people. She obviously has some personal issues. The majority of people would NOT make that statement. If your doctors increased your calories and carb consumption, it sounds like there was a good reason for it. Have you talked to them about the weight gain ? This may only be a temporary set-back as your body gets use to the change.

    What Am I Thinking?

I don't know if what I'm going to suggest will apply for you or not, but I will share and if it helps great, if not, then hopefully others will chime in that can offer other advice. I am so close to goal, I can't hardly stand it. A little more than a week ago, my left leg started swelling up like a watermelon. Long story short, it turned out not to be a blood clot, but rather a complication from a blood clot I had earlier this year. Moral of the story, I gained like 10# of Fluid in a VERY short period of time. Now, common sense tells me- DUH, this isn't a real weight gain, right? I went into this funk and I think subconsciously I was telling myself I was never gonna get to my final goal anyways, so might as well have some food I enjoy. Did I make good choices? Nope!! In fact, I think I added another 3 or 4# to that fluid gain in this same time frame. Being so close to goal and using COMMON SENSE, a reasonable person would think, WHY would I do that to myself??? Is it the fear of success? Ok, sounds like an oxy moron, but I emailed a friend over the weekend about this issue I just went through. She reminded me that when people are exposed to abusive relationships whether it be a parent/ child, spouse, etc.... that often times we get into our heads that we just aren't good enough for those "good things" in life. That it becomes a form of self-sabotage and then we can say, "well, they were right, I couldn't do it anyways".... I've seen others reference some books on this subject. I haven't looked them up as reading is something I don't have time for in my schedule, but I am seeing a therapist to help me on addressing my food issues. Being 9# to goal, I still have major food issues. I want to eat the good stuff, but logically we all know what that does to us. Try to put the 3 donut holes aside and move on. Just look at it as a wash for today and continue on your track to meeting your July weight loss goal! I hope that helped some. I don't know if this date you are working towards involves any people that have been negative in your life before, but you might give this some thought. Forgot to mention, my Dr.'s put me on a diarhetic and I lost ALL that fluid in like 2 or 3 days, which left me with the 3 or 4# that I believe are from the poor food choices I made. Those are now gone plus 1 thank goodness. Food demons will likely be part of my life forever.....

it appears i've lost my motivation ...

This is fitting since we're talking about motivation. I accidentally posted this to Before & After, but meant for it to go here.

Seriously - if you don't already, and have any means to get it done, take naked pictures. Taking pictures in the same outfit over & over is well and good, but you aren't going to see the differences in your skin and shape.

Every month I take pictures in 1) the same outfit from pre-op, 2) the closest I can get to skin tight current outfit, 3) completely naked.

For the most part, I have DH take the naked pictures and write them to a VERY secure external & mostly detached hard drive. I can't stand looking at my naked pictures.

Nearly 10 years ago, when I was on the upward swing of my extremely fast weight gain, I had hubby take some naked polaroids of me. (Yes kids, there was a day before every household had 15 digital cameras when you either had to take polariod, or risk every mallrat at the photo stand seeing your pictures). Not nearly as fun as it sounds, I promise. This was my way of motivating myself to do something about my increasing weight. Of course, all it really did was make me feel ashamed and disgusted.

Tonight while cleaning out some old boxes o' stuff I found those named pictures. And you know what? I'm SOO glad I took them. When I looked at the clothed pictures, I can dismiss it away, always, to some extent.

Naked, it is what it is.

BTW, this before pic is WAY before. About 8.5 years before I was banded. It's also me about 50 lbs below my highest weight. Cropped for your viewing pleasure, of course.

    lost my mojo

Oh yeah.. a while back my band suddenly got tight and then I got second degree burns on my legs to where they swelled up like elephant legs and I could barely walk.. the pain was so bad and then I stopped working out cuz of it. I got some fill out and even though I didn't gain any weight, I haven't really lost much either this past month.. but I started back on my work out regime yesterday.. and it feels good. I need to go get my fill back next week now that all the swelling is down. I'm hungry all the time, but I make better decisions, like eating spring salads with 1 calorie spray instead of chips... or sugar free 50 calorie fudgsicles instead of candy ... stuff like that. So, it helps. I'm sure we all stray away due to stuff like this every now and again, but as long as we find our way back and it doesn't cause too much damage, aka, weight gain, I think it's fine. Welcome to the group!
  19. I wouldn't be comfortable going home after major surgery. The risk for leaks is highest within the first week, and I had 3 leak tests. I know some surgeons do this procedure on an outpatient basis, but I personally would not go home without at least 2 leak tests, and an overnight stay in the hospital. My husband was extremely supportive on my decision to have this surgery. I'm a band to sleeve revision and he was supportive of both surgeries. Neither one of us are drinkers per se, and I haven't attempted to drink anything since my sleeve surgery. I was able to drink alcoholic beverages with my band. I don't think you're crazy for wanting to live a longer, more healthy life for yourself. Tell your husband about all the joyful activities that you 2 can do after you lose the weight. Just from my personal experience, my marriage is more exciting, fun, and full of surprises due to me losing weight. We are more active in and out of the bedroom as well. There are going to be plenty of joyful things that you can share. Just get creative, and make him a list of all the great adventures you 2 can participate when you lose weight, gain more confidence, and more energy. Best wishes, and keep us posted on your progress.
  20. I have been watching this site alot. and posting occasionally, My husband and I both hope to be banded in the future. We both have seen our PCP who whole heartly agreed to put together a referral letter for both of us. We have both been under his care for 14 years. Yeah we have weight loss history (and weight gain :ermm ) He has faxed them to Dr Boutt and Bhesnia in Port Huron Mi. Dh had his psych consult yesterday and mine is Friday. We both have a consult with the banding Dr March 28th. So far everything is going smooth I just hope BCBS says yes to the preauthorization. We hope we can be banded in the summer. It makes no difference to me when. I am a RN want work contingent (when I want) But my dh is self employed and our 17 yr old will be out of school for the summer and ride in the truck and do the physical part. So he hopefully only has to take a week off staying home. Just thought I would update everyone. I weight 280 5'4" and dh 360 6'0. I enjoy this site. And have hopes it continues an its present positive path.
  21. Donna I am so very sorry about the passing of your Dad - I feel your pain - I lost mine 15 yrs ago... I dont have a card - all i know is that I have the "New Band" whatever that means - the mechanics of the band is not something i concern myself with - who cares if there is 1 cc or 2 - why would I need to keep track of that - there might be a reason - but i can't figure it out. I have enought to think about... You are under stress right not which is going to cause emotional eating and imho is what may have cause your band to get so tight, But what ever the reason - you have no restriction and you need to get a handle on your eating until you do.. and even with restriction sweets still get through... One way to handling emotional eating is you live & eat in the now – not being upset about what you are in the past and not obsessing about what you will eat in the future. The very thing that’s designed to help people lose weight is the very thing that promotes this heavier – diets promote the all or nothing mentality. In our lives we allow for a margin of error – which we should also do when trying to eat healthy – if you are eating 1000-1200 calories a day – allow for some of those calories to be used for a little bit of something you really want - you need wiggle room in your diet to make it work – the all or nothing practices has to be thrown our of your mind. You can learn to reprogram your mind to strip away the guilt that comes with dieting. You have to realize that it’s not that the first slice of cake that will doom your diet – it’s the second or third or whole thing that leads to weight gain. You have to listen to your body & respond smartly to your cravings and emotions but over time you will learn how to eat right and mange your craving and that’s when you’ll train your brain to stop obsessing about eating right and punishing yourself – If you stop overthinking you’ll stop over eating.. Don't worry today - take baby steps - that food is not really your friend but your addiction. Don't go back to it - it's the devil in sheeps clothing. If you really need a candy bar - go buy just one - go to your room and savor it with all your might - and tomorrow get up say hey that was good - and one candy bar isn't going to put on 43 lbs - but if you keep going out to by them - it will - don't buy them then you cant eat them Well it's late - gotta get ready for tomorrow - :rose::girl_hug: janet
  22. Linda This band is NOT the magic cure to your food issues - it banded your tummy not your brain... Only you control what goes into your mouth not the band. The band does not take away all your hunger and it doesn't take away you thinking about food (imho) - it is a tool to control portions The reason we are all FAT right now is cuz we ate alot of food (high fat - high sugar and didn't exercise) That is the plain and simple fact. My typical dinner pre banding would be 3 tacos w/beans (made w/lard) then a hour later 2 more tacos & Beans with tons of cheese and then 1 more taco before bed and then during the middle of the night brownies - Cookies - ice cream and all I did was sit on my butt- now typical dinner 4 oz fish - 1/2 cup brown rice - 1 - to 1 1/2 cup veggies - 2 sf pudding and sf fudgecicle - or sf angel food cake w/dannon yogurt - am I still hungry - sometime even though my tummy is full - this is head hunger. You have to plan what you are going to eat, you have to shop, you gotta weigh thing to know what a correct portion size is. will you have to do this for the rest of your life - hopefully not once you learn what a true portion size is - we fat people have a whole different definition of portion size - "I use to say - who came up with a pint of ice cream being 4 servings - hell that's only one serving" You gotta work at this - the band isn't going to do it for you We are going to be hungry for a while (both head hunger and withdrawls from our addiction)- we are use to eating alot of food but we just don't realize that we were/are eating huge amounts... Got to the thread "At or near Goal" ask those people how they got there - did the band do it or did they do it. I bet most will answer that they made wise food choices and exercised and ya they had some help from the band but that they did most of the work not the band. I just think that too many people think the band is going to do all the work and that they don't have to do any... you are told only to expect 1 -2 lbs a week - if you want more - exercise more... If I lose only 1 lb a week I am happy - but I am working at this lot harder than the band is.. I make wise food choices 1000 to 1200 calories a day which I log and I walk 10- 13 miles a week. The band is only a piece of plastic it can't make your food choices or do the exercise for you... My Doc & Nutritionist said that these were my guidelines- #1 Protein 60 grms daily, low fat, low sugar, 3 meals plus 2 healthy Snacks - Vitamins, Calcium. I am allowed to pick and choose what I eat - I am not limited as to what I eat - just that it's healthy and in size with correct portions - 1/4 cup ice cream (sf) instead of the whole pint made with real sugar & cream. In our lives we allow for a margin of error – which we should also do when trying to eat healthy – if you are eating 1000-1200 calories a day – allow for some of those calories to be used for a little bit of something you really want (chocolate - have a healthy choice fudgecicle - it's s/f & 80 calories)- you need wiggle room in your diet to make it work (I save my morning and afternoon snacks for night time which is my worst time) – the all or nothing practices has to be thrown our of your mind. You can learn to reprogram your mind to strip away the guilt that comes with dieting. You have to realize that it’s not that the first slice of cake that will doom your diet – it’s the second or third or whole thing that leads to weight gain. You have to listen to your body & respond smartly to your cravings and emotions but over time you will learn how to eat right and mange your craving and that’s when you’ll train your brain to stop obsessing about eating right and punishing yourself – If you stop over thinking you’ll stop over eating.. Good Luck on your journey

    Gaining weight pre op

I showed a weight gain of 2 lbs with my nutritionist today at 8am and at 1:00pm a 3 lb loss at my primary doc. Obviously someone's scale isn't right!

    My first fill FINALLY!!

I made some poor eating choices 2 weeks ago (about 5 weeks after surgery) and experienced some weight gain. When I went for my fill the doctor was very firm about sticking to the proper food to eat & way to eat them. Also about exercise. It was hard to hear because I was already hard on myself. The fill has really helped & I have had an excellent week of eating well & exercising every day! I did have my first "frothing" episode a few days ago eating cantalope of all things. I think I ate too fast & didn't chew enough. I won't being doing that again!

    Bizarre trend?

I respectfully disagree, buplee. I do not believe that some arbitrary number of psychotherapy appointments should EVER be required. Not every person with a food issue needs therapy. In some cases, it's knowledge they need, or some support while they assert their own discipline (i.e., the 6 month medically supervised diet). Some people have physical issues which exacerbate their weight gain. Some people just let themselves go because of other stressors in their lives, and by the time they started taking care of themselves again, they'd already dug themselves into a deep hole. I do agree with the psych evaluation that most of us have had to go through. If problems are uncovered at that time, of course it would be wise to get them fixed before they proceed into weight loss, but I don't believe that dictating that you will have 5 or 10 sessions is realistic. Some people can work through minor issues very quickly. Others may need to go longer. Either way, that should be something between the patient and their medical team to decide, and should not be an arbitrary dictation from on high.
