    Potatoes 5 weeks out

I did, because it was one of the few approved foods that tasted good to me. Even now, at 9 weeks, I still eat them with a laughing cow piece melted in a serving…. What’s weird is that when I hit a stall for a week, a couple of servings of potatoes kicks it back into gear. I have no idea why, but it does

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

What surgery did you have? I had DS and I’m a little more than a month out. I was very close to same starting weight as you on surgery day. I lost a significant amount for my first week follow up, but it doesn’t seem to be super noticeable, so I’m losing motivation. I’ve a long-time scale phobia, so I’m not really checking. I don’t go back to my surgeon for a follow-up until March, but I feel like I’m maybe gaining, not losing. I tolerate everything. Over the holidays I even had things I shouldn’t. Nothing seems to kick back. I’m a little concerned, actually. I feel like I can eat way more than I’m supposed to be able to eat as well. Can anyone drink a whole premier protein shake at a sitting? Because I’ve been able to since I started full liquids, and it’s freaking me out. You should be really really proud of yourself, Tristen! Sticking to the plan is super tough, and you are doing great! Don’t lose focus!

I used Ramsey Healthcare at the Woodlands in Kettering. My surgeon was Mr Sutton and bariatric nurse was Emma. They were and are an amazing team. Yes I paid a premium, but I have so much after care and lifetime support. I interviewed 3 different surgeons across the country before I made my decision and I am glad I chose him. Within 6 weeks of first consultation I was in and having my surgery. i had my surgery in 13th July, I weighed 15 stone. I now weight 9 stone 10. I have had no complications at all! I used a bank loan to fund this as the interest rate was more favourable. It did cost me £10k but it’s the best money I have ever spent! i also have an on hand dietician and an app which has lifetime support and contact with a range of professionals good luck in your journey!! 😊

I used Nuffield through a company called Healthier Weight that was recommended by my surgeon, this was after being told in July that the NHS waiting list was at least three years and I decided that was too long to wait to get my life back together. My operation was in November so I didn't have long to wait in the grand scheme of things and I can't fault any of the care I have received.

5 months post op - Thankful

Congratulations!! This makes me so happy for you! Especially that you‘re bettering your relationship with food. Thats huge! I‘m curious. Have you had any weight stalls? I‘m plus/minus around the same time as you and I‘m currently in my second three week long ish stall 😬

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Oh it's hard enough without thyroid issues. I think you're doing brilliantly but I know it's you who has to be happy. 28lbs in 6 weeks is amazing. January is going to be a good month for losses, I can feel it!

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Yeh I get the "down feeling" when scale doesn't move after weeks. But hoping it starts becoming from friendlier with us 😂😂 Hang it there and hopefully we shall make it too.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

I haven't been keeping track of dates and weight, but I feel like a slow loser too. No surprise as I don't have a thyroid. I'm in my 5th week and hitting a stall. I was on the pre-op diet for a week before surgery and have lost a total of 28 lbs. I am so very happy because I can SEE and FEEL the difference, but the number of pounds and this current stall do kind of get me down a little bit.
  9. Hi! I am almost a week post op VSG and have extreme nausea! I can’t even stomach water or my Powerade zero. I have been forcing myself to drink my 2 Fairlife shakes to get my 60 grams of protein in but that’s all the intake I can tolerate. I might be able to get 20-30 ounces of other fluid down during the day. I sip slowly like I’m supposed to, sit up when I’m drinking and I’m even taking Zofran once to twice a day but it gives me a terrible headache. Did anyone else have this issue and any advice? And please tell me it goes away soon!
  10. I am three years out I also gain weight. After my poppa passed away it was 2 years on new years eve .and I was so depressed about it and started gaining weight. Trying to get my on track and now my thyroid is off the charts and I am so mad at myself about it. Sent from my SM-T307U using BariatricPal mobile app
  11. Hello all! I had the SADI-S on July 24, 2020. I weighed 393 pounds at my highest and 368 on the day of surgery. I am so excited because today I finally made it to onederland! When I started out I was hoping to get at least down to 200 pounds. I am so happy to be officially under that number now and I hope to go even lower. My weight has slowed down a lot in the last few months and sometimes it's hard to stay motivated but I am not giving up! My wonderful, supportive husband gave me the shirt I'm wearing in this pic to celebrate. It came last week and he wouldn't let me open it and I thought it was something for the anniversary of the day we met, which also happens to be 18 years ago today. I was so surprised by the shirt. Anyway. I just wanted to share because I am so excited and had to tell someone who understands. [emoji4] Sent from my Pixel 5a using BariatricPal mobile app

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

I am right there with ya. Slow loser I think so too 🥲 Last 4 weeks and I have lost only about 6 pounds. There was ofc 2 or 3 weeks of stall but even now my scale isn't budging much. It can get very frustrating and disappointing when it's only the beginning of the 2nd month. Le sigh, hope by the end of the month I can at least lose 10 pounds in total for this month, otherwise it would be highly disappointing 😭😭😭
  13. I hate to say it but if that is where they stand right now you may not be able to get them on board within a week. I am not sure whether I would even continue to try if I were you. I know that their concern is coming from a genuine place but their expression is not rational or productive. And it’s not okay! My mom has pulled similar stuff with me and it has taken years in therapy to be able to set boundaries with her. Assuming you are an adult you need to be able to make your own decisions free from guilt and manipulation but a change like that will not happen overnight. This surgery is a big decision and it’s one that you should make for you. You don’t need their approval. If you need support, you have found a great source of it right here.

6 Almost 6 months out and have lost

I'm 11 weeks post op. Have lost 37 lbs after VSG, but lost weight prior to surgery, so I'm down a total of 65lbs rn. I aim for at least 800cal a day...to 1000cal. Also try to get in at least 80-100g of protein daily as well. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
  15. So, I’m around 6' - 6'2" 289 lbs and am scheduled to get a sleeve gastrectomy next week and my parents are understandably upset at me going through with the surgery as I had an uncle pass away while getting a similar procedure. I initially didn’t want to tell them because I knew it would worry them, but now that I’ve told them, they’re worried so much more than I anticipated. They don’t think I need the surgery and despite my motivation to use this surgery as a tool to lose weight, my parents think this is an irrational decision. It's gotten to the point where they're constantly gaslighting me, asking if I'm mentally okay, if I need help, etc. I strongly believe in the need to go through with this surgery, but it’s difficult going through with it knowing my parents are holding their emotions as a hostage to deter me from going through with it. I believe it's emotionally manipulative (citing that my decision will push them over the edge, causing them to go into a psychiatric ward, or something worse). There are other things they've told me like I'm not disciplined enough, not working hard enough, taking the easy way out, etc. I'm emotionally exhausted and I’m not sure how to navigate this. I don’t know if they’ll ever come around to accept my decision. What would you guys do in this situation? Should I do a conference call with my surgeon? I’m hesitant to do that, though (one parent irrationally threatened that he would sue the surgeon for going through with it). I just don’t know what to do. I know this is the right decision for me, but I just can't seem to understand their point of view. Any help is appreciated.

    January surgery anyone?

My surgery was on January 4th. Also on day 4 at home. I had gastric bypass and am still a little bit sore. I’m so excited to start adding more than liquids back into my diet next week.

    cottage cheese

I totally googled it and realized I’ve had this before and loved it…just didn’t know what it was called. I’m def gonna make an attempt at this next week!
  18. Let me preface this by saying I'm one of those crazy Scandinavians. We get put outside to sleep when we're babies, for hours, also in sub-zero temperatures. I love the cold, love sleeping in a bedroom so cold I can see my own breath. You just sleep so well. This didn't change while getting fat, obviously. Then, bariatric surgery happened. 1) Immediately. Had to change my bedroom temp from 40F to 78F. No, literally. 2) Yes. A week ago. 13 months out. Bedroom temp is down to 60F. 3) It's not just lack of insulation, but that's part of it. What you're experiencing now will get worse, and then it'll get better. 4) See above. Your body is busy with other things.

Are you a member of the polar bear club?

I’m 12 weeks post op and have also been COLD recently. But is it because I’ve lost 55 lbs, or because it’s winter in Chicago?? 🤔 (probably both) sometimes I have to put on a hoody in my apartment and sleep with socks on.

  21. Interesting post. Happy you all shared. I have my revision from VSG to RNY bypass next week and I am so anxious to know how my body with adjust. I have terrible GERD now plus have gained and lost the same 30 pounds for 2 years. I had VSG in March 2017.

    Panniculectomy worth it?

yes - lower body lifts are pretty painful. My arm lift and breast lift were much easier - but I think it has to do with the liposuction and muscle tightening they do with a lower body lift. I had to use a walker and a toilet seat riser for several days - and those first couple of nights were AWFUL. But....it does end, and in the end, the results were worth it (I had my LBL three years ago - and the arm & breast lift two years ago)

    Driving?

I was told to wait at least 24 hours after I stopped taking pain pills, but I never took any pain pills (I had almost zero pain from the surgery). I think I waited about a week to drive, though. I didn't have much energy and slept a lot the first few days - plus I had my husband here to run errands for me.

    1 month post-Op work out/Exercise?

I went to water aerobics a lot that first year (I still do once or twice a week, but I went a lot more than that the first year. I have a bad hip so walking fast enough or far enough to get much benefit out of it is tough - and I was too heavy at the time to do much else). I think I "rode" the stationary bikes and seated ellipticals at the gym, too. Once I was about eight weeks out, I was cleared to do weights, so I added in the weight machines at the gym, too.
