What are the weird and new foods you like post op?
_Kate_ replied to The New Kel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Plain greek yogurt.... Hated it before and now love it and have it at least once a day. I used to love tea... I drank buckets of it daily and hated it afterwards. Even the smell turned my stomach. I have had a couple of cups recently but its not the same. Now that IS weird seeing as I am Enlish and we are born with a cup of tea in hand lol -
Where i go from here
Lovingmyself83 replied to Sandie984's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on the 13th as well. I'm doing pretty good now. I had a few rough days with a couple regretful moments but now I'm so happy I did go through with it. I started soft foods on the 25th. That first egg last looked and smelled wonderful but once that first tiny bite and you swallow.... reality hits you and you realize how much slower you have to eat and how important it is to chew. I thought I was going to eat it all in no time but it took me almost an hour to finish it. I had to put sour cream. They recommend adding mayo or low carb dressings to help make it moist. It being too dry will make it hard to swallow and feel like it's stuck in your esophagus or throat. I couldn't even get a 6oz yogurt finished in 30 mins. It took me an hour. But slowly but surely you'll get it down in no time. I'm ok to eat a yogurt in 30 mins now. Soft food proteins are still taking me a while to finish but it feels so good when I look at that scale. It's all worth it. It's hard work but so worth it right. Congrats to you all and hope we all reach our goals in no time with hard work, dedication and discipline of course. -
Just had RNY on 11/28 and will be starting Week 2 - Pureed foods. My diet guide from the surgeon and nutritionist lists scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt and pureed soups. Any ideas for good pureed soups - either to buy or recipes? Should I be really careful of fat grams, carbs, etc.?

Protein/food/enough Calories
Mrs.D replied to TinyMamiOf3kids's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drink a 30g protein shake first thing in the am, one after lunch, and try for at least 1/2 a shake after dinner...totaling around 75g...as my dr recommends 60-90g. Plus cottage cheese and Greek yogurt are great sources of protein. The shake I drink are from Premiere nutrition I also alternate w Unjury...which gives 20g of Protein in 6 oz. -
Am I wrong to feel this way?
Goofyspice replied to hopeandfaith's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
People including family are just ignorant sometimes or self absorbed hard to tell It goes past just WLS. Years ago at a desk job we celebrated everyones birthday. It was nice... you knew your cubicle would be done up somehow, you'd get a group card, a small thoughtful gift or giftcard. AND you would get a "birthday" cake. Well we all decided since it was OUR birthday we should be able to dictate just what kind of "b-day cake" we wanted. We had quite the variety: rootbeer floats, cheesecake and mine was brownies. For my birthday my boss brought it a lime Jello mold cake!!! . It gets better... Someone did bring in some brownies and guess who ate 1/4 of them??? Yep the boss after her chow down there wasn't enough for everyone... one person was going to miss out...ONE!!! ME!!! To add insult to injury she didn't even touch the lime jello cake she was so proud of. I was pissed. I hate Jello. I say the only thing jello is good for is jello shooters LOL!!! Cant have those for a while So hopefully your Sis in law will get a clue soon!!! Also whats up with not at least getting you a red velvet cake yogurt. They have them you know and they are quite tasty. -
Five Years Post Op N Gaining Weight
ShapeShifter replied to NOLA Lady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The key word here is depression. Please see a doctor and therapist about your depression. I know how it can feel like an identity crisis when you are no longer able to do the job you once felt defined you. But a job is not who you are. The circumstances suck, but the situation is not about you, it is about male insecurity. You need to take care of YOU, and move forward. I've read about a five day pouch test, and yogurt day... to kind of cleanse your sleeve, so to speak, and kick the carb addiction, so that you can return to the way you were eating when you lost your weight in the beginning. Lots of Water and Protein first, then veggies, then fruit. You can do this! You already have. You are stronger than you think you are, and that was not the last job you will have and love. You will find a new place to shine. Just remember who you are, put on your warrior outfit, and get back out there! -
When i was having this problem, I spoke with my nutritionist. She said to make sure is was getting my daily Water and if i still was not going that i could incorporate fiber supplement into my regimen (metimucel etc). I consider this a side affect. because we concentrate so much on getting our Protein we really dont get enough fiber to keep us regular. Other tries are the activia yogurts. I reved up my water and so far things are flowing smoothly but i do still have to take something to help. I have heard some take a stool softener regularly. (I personally am not a fan.) Good luck on finding a solution.

1 Month Sleeved
Emilie.Lancaster replied to rosebud_char's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I eat about 850 calories each day fairly consistently. I hit my 80 g protein each day. I have a thin cup of coffee each morning, it helps me poo (don't judge.) And I eat half a zone perfect bar at work over the course of the morning. Then school lunch option (sometimes a half chicken Patty or a short cup of beans or their boiled yellow squash, something like that, but I can't ever finish it in one sitting. I take it back with me and finish it two hours later) I drink a protein drink. Premier is my favorite, over ice and usually over two or three hours. A cheese stick gets in there somewhere and soup for dinner. Maybe a yogurt popsicle if the calorie count allows. I count the cals... Every day. I have tried lots of foods I am not supposed to be ready for yet, and don't think I've done any damage. If it does not go down easy, I stop, and back up to mostly liquids. I had half a piece of pizza the other day. No problems. Beef, not so good. I had ricotta bake the other day and it was good, but the same thing today, and three bites on I wanted to barf. Only barfed once since sleeve Dec. 8. That was the dry trout. Ick. I believe that it's all a matter of calories, protein, and liquids. If I drink them all or chew, it makes little to no difference if I stay in parameters. I am down 25 pounds from surgery day, 30 from "go" date (11/23) I think it's a nice steady decline I can live with. -
Pre-Op Liquid Diet
Berry78 replied to Sleeve1stFitNext's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've bounced back and forth between watery stool and constipation. I wouldn't recommend taking anything because about the time you do, your body will have adjusted (maybe). Then you'll have other problems. There might be something you are consuming that isn't agreeable. I was allowed Okios triple zero yogurt. Something in that caused me trouble. -
I think I might have some restriction...
juliansmom2003 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
...but I'm not sure LOL I had my second fill on Thursday and today is my first real day back on solids. Breakfast was an 8 ounce yogurt and Frigo cheese stick, lunch was a meatloaf lean cuisine (didn't have time to make anything today) -- had no problem with either meal. For dinner I made about 1/2 cup of egg beaters with laughing cow cheese and toasted an arnold sandwich thin. I had about 3 bites of the sandwich, chewed thoroughly and took my time, and all of a sudden, I started sliming. Not like getting stuck though. Is this restriction? Is this what they mean by saying, "I know I shouldn't take another bite because I know what will happen"? I am hoping this is it, but I'm not sure. Thanks for educating a banded fool who is 4 months out and still has no clue what being full feels like with the band :w00t:!!! -
Vitamins make me gag!
Justajenn replied to peacharoni's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been taking them whole. I tried opening them and putting them in yogurt and I couldn't stand it. I did chewables for maybe three days and then switched to my normal. Can't do the chewin on chalk thing. I just don't take them all at once. I take a my small ones (biotin, colace, regular) when I wake up. Take a shower the do my PPI then with breakfast my multivitamin and probiotic. -
Another way of making pancakes that is healthy and delicious is to mash up a banana and an egg, toss in some cinnamon and I like to add some pumpkin pie spice as well, and cook it like a regular pancake. It's really yummy! But I think I was told to wait until at least a couple months to try more solid food like that. If you're bored of the same old same old, you could try some of the things I really loved in the puree stage. My favorite was turkey or chicken chili from trader joe's with a dollop of low fat or fat free sour cream. It has a surprisingly satisfying texture even after being pureed. Another good one is cottage cheese or greek yogurt with pumkpin puree or refried black Beans and perhaps a little bit of taco sauce. I also enjoyed canned white meat chicken pureed with greek yogurt cream cheese and a little splash of cream of chicken Soup and a little splash of milk to make it all blend well - this tasted EXACTLY like hamburger helper, somehow. A bit further on when you get to soft foods, you can try my absolute soft food favorite - a turkey meatball or two mashed up with greek yogurt cream cheese (this exists and it is DELISH and it is much healthier than regular cream cheese) and about an ounce of cheddar. This one tastes exactly like beef stroganoff. I actually had some of this earlier today! As a meal, I make 3 turkey meatballs, 2 tbs of greek yogurt cream cheese, and 1 ounce of extra sharp cheddar. I eat it in two or three sittings, and it comes to 330 calories, 6 grams of carbs, and 29 grams of Protein. Yummy and good for you. It'll take you time to get used to eating a much more limited diet than most of us ate before surgery, but then you'll learn how to make new combos of healthy foods that taste good, leave you feeling full and satisfied for many hours, and give you a ton of protein and are healthy. You'll get there, and sooner than you think. Hang in there.

You are so lucky your doc lets you eat soup, pudding and yogurt at 10 days! I could only have liquids until 21 days. I am now on soft foods, but soup and pudding were definitely not recommended. It is just grand being able to at least eat some things, though! Good luck and try to follow your doc's instructions.....

8 days post op pain even when drinking fluids
Chrystee replied to kerryyoung's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very small sips and bite.. chew it up well.. even greek yogurt. I let it melt in my mouth sort of, first. -
First, welcome to these message boards! You'll find a wealth of information here to support you through the process. And I too agree with previous posts that perhaps this is all too quick for you. Take your time with this decision. It's a major life change, and you need to commit 100%. Having said that, I will answer your questions as honestly as I can. I am 4 months post op. I started at 366 (with an all-time high of 380). I'm 5'6" and 49 years old. My weight is now 290, and I'm in the middle of a stall. 1. Anyone out there with hypothyroidism? Yes I have hypothyroidism too. Pre-op I was close to maximum dosage, and at 3 months post op I had full blood work done and my numbers are normal, but still at the higher dosage of synthroid. 2. ...The thought of having to center my eating around a piece of meat or fish...is making me cringe.... I'm lucky where I like meat, so it isn't an issue for me. But this should be a concern for you, as Protein will be the staple of you diet. It doesn't have to be animal-based: greek yogurt, soy protein (though with hypothyroid, you might check with your physician/nutritionist on that), and Protein shakes would work too. You could also consider pureed Soups, stews, and chili as well, once you are cleared for those items. 3. Heartburn - does everyone have to take acid medication after surgery or only some people? I never needed the heartburn medicine. 4. I am already battling anemia...will this surgery make that battle even harder? I would imagine no here, but again, check with your physicians. 5. Vitamins...the whole Vitamin taking sounds a little daunting. Does this get easier? I never had to crush up the vitamins myself past the first week, and taking one a day is no big deal to me. If you are taking synthroid, just add it to your daily medications. 6. Recovery- how long did it take most of you? I was lucky. I had surgery on a Monday. The first few days at home were rough. But by Fri/Sat, I was feeling better, and I was back to work that Monday: one week post-op. I started boot camp for exercise the following Monday (with my surgeon's blessing, of course). For me, this has been the best decision I have made (so far). I acknowledged right from the start that I needed to change some very fundamental things about myself in order for this to work, and I am working hard to build a strong foundation of support now, in the early stages, to help me through. And while the sleeve is a tool that make some things easier, the process is, by no means, easy. So take your time. Breathe. Process. And when you're ready, you'll know. Either way. Please be well, and keep us all posted!

Any 12/8/15 Sleeves out there
ezbeinggreen replied to mizzvickie72088's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved 12/7 so just one day before you! Hopefully that is OK?! I am in the same boat. I definitely feel hunger and some days feel like I can eat more than I should compared to some other folks who even at 1 - 3 months out are still really restricted to just a few spoonfuls. Especially soft foods like yogurt, soups, etc. I can definitely eat more yogurt than say chicken or fish. For example, I can eat an entire 5.3 oz greek yogurt now but maybe 2-3 oz of flaky fish. But as long as I keep my calories in check I feel like I am OK. My doc had me on purees and soft foods from the day I got home from surgery so maybe that is the difference? The people I know who are super restricted were on clear and full liquids for weeks before moving to purees. I am already eating regularly textured food at this point. The good thing about that is I can drink pretty much anything and tolerate just about any foods so getting my Protein in isn't difficult mechanically - I am just really sick of Protein shakes and don't want to drink them anymore! I started working out again today, took a really long walk this morning (I need to work back up to the gym). Felt good though - I am down 20 pounds since surgery (25 total since pre-op diet) and I felt the difference. -

Confession: I think I'm officially a bad sleever.
Oregondaisy replied to Sara51692's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My biggest problem is grazing. I don't really like the feeling of solid Protein in my stomach. Solid protein hurts pretty quickly. I hate that too full feeling which happens almost immediately. Then I end up grazing all the time. I eat yogurt, Protein shakes, cheese, etc. It's very easy to fall away from all the rules. The trick is remembering what they are and forcing yourself to get back on track. -
Thanks for the response! I spoke to my surgeon's office and they pretty much said the same thing. "Stay the course" be patient, things will pick up again soon. The only "real" food my doc suggested in week 3 was lean ground beef, eggs, ground sausage, and very well cooked veggies. So that's what I'm doing along with all the apple sauce consistency foods like yogurt, oatmeal, cream of wheat, etc. I'm thinking about adding that clear fiber stuff to my diet to help with regularity. Doc said that was ok to do too.

My surgery was Tuesday. At my sis in law till yesterday morning and home yesterday. I feel really good. Still very tired and am feeling some gas pressure this morning around my chest. I guess that's what it is. Protein shakes, water, hot tea this morning. Lots of water. Crush some of my pills and mix with yogurt. So far my body is tolerating everything really well. I'm definitely not pushing it. Slow and easy. I'm really surprised at how good I feel.

Unflavored protein powder - mix with what?
nomorefattypatty replied to rs's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
You can mix it in coffee, yogurt, cottage cheese with peaches, milk, ice cream, juice and anything you eat or drink almost. The only real way to find out what you like or dont is to simply try it. Dont be afraid to try different ways to experiment with protein powder. The worse thing that can happen is you waste a scoop or so. Try anything you can to get your protein in to keep healthy. Wow 53 pounds ... what a birthday present for yourself. You are following your doctors guidelines and the results are showing. We can't control other peoples actions only our own. I am glad you listened to your body and stopped eating the new yogurt when something did not feel right. Your sister in law should have listened to your daughter and not insisted on a sugary celebration. A card, movie or a water bottle would have been so much nicer. I sure hope you are feeling better soon! -
Greek yogurt equals yum!
teacher replied to Linkinchik's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am completely in love with Oikos Greek Yogurt but did not realize it had so much more sugar in it compared to Yoplait. I tried several different kinds when I started this journey and the texture of Oikos was what won me over. I just bought a box of Oikos at Sam's so I guess I will finish this and try Yoplait again. -

How did you go in for Fage and end up with yoplait?? I've been looking at the Fage website tonight and they have a couple of doable recipes.. This one for hummus looks good. I've been going and buying pre made Greek yogurt hummus but I might give this a try.. http://www.fageusa.com/plainkitchen/recipes/crushed-spicy-hummus-with-yogurt-spiced-baked-pita-chips/
