  1. So I am 1 week out and have been faithfully drinking out of the 1 ounce medicine cups that they gave me at the hospital. I was not getting in nearly enough fluid and was burping 24-7. then I opened the cupboard to get my 2 yr old a drink and a stack of those cheap plastic sippy cups (no valves, they com in 5 packs) fell out at my head. I decided to try it. FAN-FREAKIN-TASTIC! Burping is seriously reduced., there fore I and getting in much more fluiids. My protien shakes were the worst before, painful gain and I could barely get 1 shake down with gas x, now just a little burping and the shakes r going in. Hopefully I will actually drink all 3 tomorrow like Im supposed to! Hope this helps somebody get past that miserable gas! ing is seriously reduced., there fore I and getting in much more fluiids. Shake it up...

Id work on building up your exercise, you're doing great for two months but I agree with the above poster - I was runnung between four and six miles a day and doing bootcamp to keep the weight coming off.

    Shake it up...

Well I am approaching 1 yr post surgery and at a standstill for a while now of 45 pounds. I had some recent setbacks and had to have a few unfills. I now have a 14 cc band with approx. 5cc's in it. I am still following all the "rules" seperating liquids and solids, slow fairly small meals, healthier choices, very little snacking and when I do it's fruit, protein first etc etc. Going to the gym 4 nights a week a mile on the tredmill, 2 miles on the bike and arm weights.. My weight hasn't moved in almost 3 months now... nothing looks or feels any better. I am starting to wonder if I shouldn't try 6 small meals instead of 3. A women at work who was banded in March is doing that and it's just falling off of her
  4. Immediately after I was walking. At two weeks I was swimming & at on month I was cut loose on weights & cardio!
  5. I started walking the day of surgery and never looked back. I walk every day. Now, I'm up to walking 1-40 minute session and 1-30 minute session per day--that's over 2 miles per day which sounds wussy, but is HUGE for me. At 6 weeks I was released to do strength training and I began in PT again to help me build core strength and endurance in preparation to working with someone to help me with a strength training (weights) plan. I have no limitations.
  6. First, 25 pounds down, that is great! I am sure many will chime in to say sometimes slow, sometimes fast, look past others results and focus on your own. But, 25 is a lot. If you are truly following exercise, diet, and protein to the letter -- why not try mixing up your fitness routine? Are you accelerating your cardio levels and/or weights? If not, it could be time to move those up.

    Shallow Nerves?

Yes. I was worried about surgery itself. But also have been taking sublingual biotin for months before surgery and still after. Ice liked at some things for saggy skin as well on Pinterest lol. Nerium Firm looks promising but super expensive. I'm hoping maybe out won't be too bad. I'm afraid to habe plastic surgery. My doctor told me that I will need to have the excess skin from my belly removed after I lose the weight 🙁 Sent from my SM-N920T using BariatricPal mobile app

Welcome, Anne - you came to the right place! This forum is where I was convinced that the lap band is the ONLY way to go! On another forum a gentleman made a comment that I just love. When someone told him that their surgery was the Cadillac of WLS, he said that HIS was the skateboard! Both can get to the same destination; the skateboard just takes a little longer with a little more effort on his part. (And a lot safer, too) As many of us have done in the past, at the beginning of the year we make resolutions to finally lose that 50 or 100 lbs; just one or two pounds a week is all that it takes. After many, many, many, many years of NOT achieving this goal, when I am finally banded it really won't matter to me if it takes a while to lose this weight - because I know that this time it WILL come off and STAY OFF. I have found that there is NO question that can't/won't be answered by this wonderful group of people. Best of luck to you!
  9. Hello Everyone, My name is Anna Marie, I am 46 years old, and have been battling my weight for over 20 years already. I wasn't always an overweight person, but began to gain the majority of my weight in my 20's. There was a time in my life that I could go on a very strict diet and exercise program, lose 70 maybe 80 pounds at a time, but I would inevitably gain it all back...and then some. Right...same old story...LOL...Recently I had my annual physical and it was strongly suggested by my physician that I consider the LAP-BAND® Surgery. First of all, I am not sure if anyone out there can relate to what I am about to say/ask, but I am an emotional eater and I wonder if LAP-BAND® surgery is right for me? More importantly, I live in NYC and have been made aware of about 3 fatalities, so far, connected to NYU's (the Fielding doctors). I am curious...does anyone know about these stories and if so, was this really the result of a surgical mishap, as suggested in the article I read, or is this another typical situation where the patient doesn't listen to the doctor's orders and suffers the consequences of it?...I need to know this because I am soooo afraid of getting the surgery as a result of these fatalities. I mean, I realize that I could die at the rate I am going as well, but choosing to die is a whole different ball game. Therefore, if someone can please give me some insight on this matter, that would be wonderful. Thank you.

    2 lbs from goal weight

Only you know if you can afford to lose any more weight. According to the tables, the weight range for med frames at 5'7 is 133-144 but that doesn't take into account age and other factors. I am 5'2" and hit my target of 140 at the weekend. That puts me at the top end of the large frame weight for my height - but I look pretty small and am wearing a UK 10/12. People have said to me to stop now but my nut agreed I could lose another 5lbs to be comfortably within the normal BMI range. But he also said to do it 1lb at a time so that I can judge when to stop before I look too thin. However, I also intend to do plastics next year and the surgeon has asked me to give him 4-5lbs to play with. So, the reality is that I intend to now maintain knowing that the other surgery will take care of the last few remaining pounds. Best advice is to talk to your nut and work with him or her. Congratulations, hope those last couple of,pounds melt away!
  11. I started more walking yesterday, but will wait a few weeks before I do anything more high impact. I am hoping to do a little light weeding/gardening next week, and might even be able to squeeze in a light-weight fishing session in the next few weeks (no heavy surf fishing for at least 3 months for me though).

    New Here!

Hello! I'm so glad I found this form! I been reading for a couple week. I've talked about having weight loss surgery for the past 2 years and the last couple months I guess you would say I've hit rock bottom. I attended my first seminar class and it only pumped me up even more. I'm still waiting for the doctors office to call me back with a consultation with the surgeon. Luckily they have been wonderful with trying to fit all my appointments in on one day since I'm traveling 4 hours. Before the seminar I was dead set on having the lap band because I was terrified to have most of my stomach removed. I had this thought that what happened if I get sick and something bad happened a to the remaining part of my stomach. After the seminar I felt lead to do more research on the sleeve. Even though my mind isn't 100 % made up I still feel lead to have the sleeve! A few questions I wasn't able to find is with my insurance BCBS TN they require you to lose 10% of your weight before they do surgery. I'm very nervous because I feel like that will be the only thing holding me back. I haven't met with the nutritionist yet so hopefully she will be able to help me. Any advice so I can start?? Thanks in advance! I'm sure I will have more questions!

    Mind games!

I didn't go thru all these threads to find a suitable place.... I've just been so "psyched" lately that I'd like to share. 4mos now since surgery and my mind is starting to play those "your still fat" games on me. My therapist pre-warned me about this. I post-poned my mtg with her last month so next week's mtg with her should be very interesting. I want to go clothes shopping to try on new styles but for fear, I can't! I'm afraid NOTHING in the misses section will fit! Even though I'm in a misses 16, I feel I still need a 20W. I forget I can now sit comfortably at the sushi bars, making my family squeeze into a booth still. I had to move my driver's seat up a notch but in my mind, felt I would get stuck!! I just feel that my weight loss has been so rapid (68lbs in 6mos) that my mind is still trying to play catch-up!
  14. Hello to everyone.. My name is Lisa. I wish I could have found this forum before today..lol. I am getting banded tomorrow. I tell you its been tough doing the liquid diet for the past two weeks, but I have made it..yeahh...I have read alot of post here, and thanks to all it has helped me. I used to work in a bariatric clinic, but I knew little about the band... More so on the bypass. I am a little nervous about tomorrow.. not to bad. I guess I am more worried that my liver didn't shrink enough and they would have to open me up..... but I know that is just my fears talking. A little about me. I am retired Navy... I know, I am only 30, but medically retired. I was diagnosed with MS in January, but got over the initial shock 2 yrs ago. I am doing well. I am a single mother with two wonderful boys who are 4 and 9. They have been my rock. Its been a tough road being over weight...as for all of us... I know it's not over, but at least it's a new start.. Wish me luck tomorrow.

    Banded in NY

Hi all, I'm very new to all this but I felt like I needed somewhere to go where people can relate. I had my lap band surgury on Aug. 9th. I went to Hamot in Erie PA. I had a wonderful experience there with my surgury and the staff. That's not the problem. I was 270 when I started out. I have only lost 20 pounds since. The band itself I feel is not the result of my weight loss. It was the grueling low calorie diet I was on before surgury and the 3 weeks of liquids after. I have had 3 fills with the last one being last week. I feel the hurt when I eat too fast or too much but I can still snack away. My doctor has now prescribed an appetite suppressant for me. It gives me a little energy boost and I am hoping for some results soon. Anyone had any similar problems? I have slipped up on the exercising and trying to eat better. I am trying to get back on track. I think I lost hope after so many months of no weight loss. Any suggestions?:help:

My sister and I will be sleeved about a week apart so we are going through this process together. We are very supportive of each other and competitive. Have any other people on this forum had the surgery with a family member or close friend. How did it help or hurt your relationship. Were you competitive with the weight loss? Did having that person motivate you or hinder you?

My mom is having surgery on the 25th. I had my sleeve done in April. She has been so supportive along the way and now I'm trying to support her through it. I think we are going to have some friendly competition once she's sleeved. I'm about 4lbs smaller than she is so I know she is going to drop weight so fast. I think it has motivated me alot. I do think we are alot closer, especially once she had to start the liquid pre-op diet. I think it will help overall to have someone to share this experience with.

    Sooo nervous

Most people are afraid before the surgery. Of course, you are having surgery and surgery has its own risk and it is scary. But stay positive. keep yourself busy..idle mind is dangerous. :} I had the same concerns as you. Especially with this surgery. I am going to be a success with the sleeve, etc etc etc. But it seems as though your gut is telling you (like me )..this must be done. Think of it this way..at our weight prior to surgery or a pre op diet. We were at danger with our health..so what is worse..getting a tool to help you get healthier or stay unhealthy and still be in danger.. Do the best you can on your pre op diet..prepare for surgery to ensure you have the necessary things in your house for after surgery..It will here before you know it. Wishing you the best and keep us updated on your progress. Logging on to this website often will be helpful and motivational.
  21. TRUE STORY: weight 5 years ago: 294 banded 5 years ago weigh in 4 years ago: 178 more than 100 pound lost in 1 year! first slipped band 3 years ago 2nd slipped band 2 years ago new 14 cc band 2 years ago 8 ccs in band for 2 years new weight: 294 Well if I don't feel like a complete failure. Failure of wasting $$$$$, time and effort to lose the 1st year and money on revisions and new band. This band is not helping me at all. I am going to the surgeon this Friday for a fill I hope and if it doesn't help restrict the way the 1st band did, I want to rip this thing out. HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!
  22. I'm so happy for you. That number is a big one for me too. I have only been under 200 once in my life, for about a week. Congrats on your success, I can't wait fr people to not recognize me.....but I better take some before pictures so I can remember how I never want to be this weight again. So happy for you! Kat
  23. She probably means pre preop! My dietitian told me it "wouldn't be a good idea to gain between my last visit with her and my visit with surgeon

    Sooo nervous

I haven't gotten a surgery date, but I believe it will be beginning of April. I can't explain how I feel..I'm very optimistic that this is what i HAVE to do.. but I am so scared. -How will I get past the pre-op diet -Will I be ok out of surgery -How much pain will i have to endure (I have 2 children and can't really stay still too long) -Will I adapt to the first month post-op (with liquids and such) -Will I loose weight? -Will I be able to not eat Carbs (like I do now). -Will I be the one with the complications from surgery? I have a phobia of feeling weak, and helpless..I hate that feeling, so I keep thinking, will I feel weak on just liquids and soft foods? Will I be able to handle this? I can't help but think all day and all night...I can't stop obsessing. A part of me is mourning things, like having a good time with a drink in my hand. Going to a family dinner and not being able to enjoy the food as I want to. I'm sad, scared and hesitant, but YET I feel I have no choice but to do this. I'm 275, 5'7 I am 39 years old............... I will be ok right??

    Grief and the lapband

Josette: First of all, congratulations on the 88 pounds you've lost. Try to remember how tough it's been to lose the 88 and that may make it easier to be a good bandster. My Mom's been gone for 7 years, taken too early too at 66 from an outrageous infection. Working Monday, dead Tuesday night. I miss my Mom every day. One thing that helps me with the lapband is that I know she's so proud of my weight loss, and I know she would have had the band if she'd had the chance. Holidays are tough when you're missing a loved one. I find that getting together with my siblings helps some. I hope you have other family to remember your lost family member with. If not, why not do something for a stranger on the holidays. Volunteer at a shelter, hospital, or somewhere that someone could use some help or friendship. Take care. Sue
