Sounds like an easy substitute for cucumber sauce without the draining of the cucumbers. You peel the cuke, right? Sounds really yummy. Man, I miss Pita bread sometimes. I do nuts (almonds), chicken (which is really hard for me to eat just yet) cottage cheese, yogurt, and Boost High Protien (15gm per serving). Surely I get in other protiens? Wow, maybe I'm not eating enough protien? OH! and Tuna, which I haven't had in several days but it's good, too. Good luck! thanks for the food lube idea, Bandit! Sounds yummy OH! I use Italian dressing in my tuna for lube. Beats mayo sometimes. Also, salsa, ranch dressing, BBQ sauce, gravy. I don't know just how much I eat in a day. One yogurt, one boost, 2 ounces of chicken breast at the most, 3 ounces of nuts, all in a day. Other days I may substitute one of the other protiens...how many grams of protien is that? dunno.

Any vegetarian banders out there?
esv2000 replied to suzie77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am vegeterian and get my proteins from Atkins protein shake for breakfast and then make my own protein shake for lunch. Rest of the day I eat beans, oats, lentils, yogurt and don't worry about proteins because I already got my proteins in for the day. Sometimes I do eat eggs but they get stuck! -
Pre-op liver shrink diet!?!
alc1071 replied to Barbara's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had my surgery on 3/27 and had to do a pre-op liquid diet as well. I had to do it for 10 days. Each surgeon seems to do it a little different. Mine allowed 3-4 high protein low carb shakes (Atkins Advantage) for meals and then I could pick 2 protein choices a day (fat free yogurt, 1/2 cup cottage cheese, 2 oz deli turkey breast, hard boiled egg or 8 oz skim milk). Also allowed 1 cup steamed veg or 2 cup raw veg (non-starches). I found the shakes surprisingly do fill you up more than I expected and had one at each meal and one before bed, I spaced the yogurt and other proteins mid morning and dinner and filled the veggies in between. Also had unlimited sugar free jello, crystal light, sugar free popsicles and fat free broth as well. It's tough at first but doable, it seems to get easier after the first few days. I lost 14 pounds during my 10 days and my surgeon said my liver was shrunk which helps them perform the surgery more safely. Good luck! -
My husband had this from taking a particular type of antibiotic for an ingrown toe nail. While they were giving him antibiotics to get rid of it, we made sure he ingested as much yogurt or other yogurt type drink containing active s. thermophilus. He could not get rid of the diarrhea until he added that. The little 'shots' of probiotic drinks often contain it, but he made sure to drink as much as he could. Sorry to hear about all these troubles. At least you have a specific issue that can be fought and fixed. Good luck!

Best food for grazing !
Kindle replied to johnsydney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I usually don't have time for breakfast and I don't get a lunch break, so I basically graze all day until my first meal in the evening. My go to's are mixed nuts with craisins (sorry Bufflehead, but I eat tons of nuts), beef and turkey Jerky (very filling), Protein smoothies, protein bars, raw veggies with cheese dip (Asiago artichoke is my favorite), popcorn, apples with Peanut Butter (I used PB2 until I reached goal), Plain Greek yogurt flavored with Protein Powder, and cheese and bagel crips. If I'm feeling like a snack but I know I'm not really hungry, I make myself drink at least 16oz of Water first. By then I'm usually over the snack cravings. -

that broccoli in hot garlic sauce sounds tasty. Like a previous poster stated, I eat every 2 hours and that helps me a lot. You should get rid of the biscuits and X the toast too. Try low fat string cheese sticks or low fat PB with celery. Remember the Proteins first. There was someone that made a sorbet out of frozen fruit, low fat Greek yogurt and 1 scoop of Protein powder. He put it in the food processor and it was done. This is something you could try too. I know I am lol. Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, bedtime snack This is my plan. I also still drink my Protein shakes or do Pure Protein Bars (1/2 bar) which keeps me full as well. -
Difficulty tolerating protein
Kelly Gonzalez replied to alice4914's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I see a lot of people struggle with the protein shakes post-op, even me, but it's importanrt to take them because it can cause loss of hair, and more importantly from what I read your body can actually start feeding off of your vital organs. I do whey, 1 scoop is 30gms of protein , so I try to get 2 scoops in the am, and just keep taking sips throughout the am. Then I buy high protein yogurt and do 2-3 in the course of a day. My surgeon told me in early stages you should get 100 gms of protein, but if I get close enough, I'm proud of myself. You should also ask your surgeon for a script for Iron, and B-12 shots, in which you can get from your MD, and this should help your energy levels. School's almost over, and then you will be able to concentrate more on you. Good luck, and blessings! -

5 Weeks after surgery and not loosing a pound...
BLERDgirl replied to anaarnaiz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It may just be a stall. There really is no rhyme or reason to them. It's your body adjusting to the changes going on. Just keep working your program, you may even try upping your calories and/or protein. I know for me having protein before and after a workout produces good results so I make a large protein shake with greek yogurt and have half before and half after. -
Congratulations!! The gas pain was the worst for me and I felt it in my chest and under my ribs!! Walking helped loads and pain meds.!! Once I got to full liquids I got lots of liquid savory Soups like tomato red pepper, carrot ginger, creamy corn and roasted red peppers, butternut squash, etc mostly the imagine brand bc they are low to non fat and taste great. I added fage Greek plain yogurt for more Protein and creaminess. Some ppl cant handle thickness early on but if you can, those are sone of my suggestions. Happy recovering

Is anyone eating 60-70g of SOLID protein AND meeting other requirements?
Padanelle replied to Band_Groupie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
unjury makes and unflavored and chicken broth flavor protein powder which is pretty good. If you don't want to buy the whole container, they sell samples. Also, I highly recommend Fage FF Greek yogurt. It has 20g protein p/cup and tastes great. -
This pre op diet is killing me
ShrinkingPeach replied to Tracan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did the pre-op diet for 2 weeks and yes by a certain point I had to make myself eat and drink. I had to do Protein shakes, sf pudding, light yogurt, Gatorade and Water. Not much variety there and everything was sweet. Maybe try spicing things differently for variety? I couldn't wait to get to the surgery date for it to be over but now I am on a week of 3 Protein Shakes a day and sf popsicles...lol Just keep your eyes on the prize and enjoy the weight you are losing as a by product of the pre-op diet...they are pounds that you are ahead of the game for after surgery. Good luck and hang in there!! -
Newbie - 2 weeks post op with loads of questions
BLERDgirl replied to swtnss's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What do your handouts say? I'm sure ice cream is not recommended. The general rule is protein first, then veg. watch you simple carbs and get your fluid & water in. Similar to @@Miss Mac I was full liquids for 2 weeks then purees then soft foods. From week 6 onward I could eat what I wanted as tolerated. Some great things to eat: soups yogurt, especially plain greek yogurt kefir eggs low fat cheeses cottage cheese beans lean meats & fish (you may need to grind these up during pureed stages) small amounts of nut butters lowfat milk small mounts of non fibrous green leafy veg small amounts of fruit, either fresh or packed in water if canned -
How has your family changed since your WLS?
Treadmillwalker replied to NWJill's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My husband, who is not overweight, is awesome!! We have a food scale, measuring cups, and measuring spoons. He is weighing and measuring our food. I work in a professional position and I can do my job from anywhere via computer, cell phone, WebEx, Facetime, etc. Therefore, I pick and chose which days I go in the office or work remotely. He is so supportive and if I say I'm going into the office he will measure out my food and put it in containers and into my bag. He knows one of the things I have struggled with in the past was sips, bites, nibbles, and tastes. Since he is dishing up the food I am no longer eating an extra spoonful, sampling a taste, licking the spoon, etc. My husband also plans what he is going to eat in front of me. So if he wants a cookie he knows that would be hard for me to watch. He quietly takes his cookie and goes into another room or waits until I'm in the shower, etc. I can smell on Sunday morning that he made toast, and I'm fine as long as I'm busy and not watching him eat it. I walk downstairs and he has a bowl of FF yogurt with blueberries ready for me. I love my husband. -
I was sleeved on 12/21 and my schedule now is like this: Morning - 2 scarmbled eggs with 1 oz of shredded cheese One Premier Protein (11 oz) on the way to work 16 oz of Water at work, sip until lunch Lunch - Last several days it's been Shelly's Ricotta Bake as described above 16 oz Diet Snapple 16 oz water, sip until I get home dinner - Various, either chicken salad, refried Beans, tuna, egg salad, turkey salad 1 or 2 sugar-free popsicles, or maybe a Yoplait light yogurt (6 oz - Boston Cream Pie!) 16 oz water That puts me at just about 900 or so calories a day and I never feel hungry and it satisfies my liquid and protein requirements.

Hi all, I am 6 weeks post op and I am having a really hard time with breakfast. Per my surgeons guidelines, he recommends avoiding bacon, sausage (even chicken), ham etc. but my issue is that I hate eggs! So I am tired of having protein shakes and yogurt for breakfast. I also don’t want to eat chicken or seafood every morning. I’ve had some bacon and I’m wondering if I am “cheating” and messing myself up. I hit a stall at 3 weeks, had my menstrual, and went up! It finally broke last week and I lost what I gained but it just doesn’t feel like I’ve made any progress in weeks! I’ve lost 22 pounds since surgery on 2/24 and with my 2 months coming up I feel like I should have lost at least 30 since my starting weight was over 300 pounds! Here are my questions: 1. For those who’ve had a VSG what was your average weekly and/or monthly weight loss after the first month? 2. Do you eat bacon, sausage, or ham for breakfast? 3. Have you cheated and still lost? Thanks in advance for any advice you can give because I am going crazy!

I also had my surgery on August 26th and i totally feel what you are saying about the liquid diet. Some things that are helping me through are the wonton soup broth. I love it. My doctor has allowed me to progress to thin cream soups, yogurt and pudding which satisfies the sweet tooth. Yesterday i was allowed to start thin mashed potatoes (this is the only time my doctor will allow mashed potatoes) and today I'm allowed to have well chewed bananas and strawberries. I'm not sure what eating plan your surgeon has you on but these are some foods that have really helped me through. I'm allowed to start slowly adding scrambled eggs on Wednesday. Cream of wheat is another food that has really kept me satisfied. It's warm, filling and you can use splenda brown sugar to sweeten it a little. I read that you've been chewing on ice chips but maybe try a sugar free popsicle. You can chew on it and it taste good. I also have the same problem with the stomach growling. Sometimes i have a hard time telling if i'm hungry or not. I have figured out for myself that if my stomach is growling and i'm light headed, then i'm hungry.

No more shakes!
Miss Impala replied to Polarbearwifey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Polarbearwifey I am trying to add it to things to beef up the Protein. For example, back then it was Egg Drop Soup. These days it is Wendy's Chili. That is working very effectively. But not yogurt. I eat that just by itself. I am supposed to get between 80-100 grams of protein in a day. 11/11/16: HW 380 11/28/16: Duodenal Switch Surgery 11/28/16: SW 374 lbs 12/19/16: CW 346 lbs -
would you date someone who is perhaps less active then you?`
Indigo1991 replied to CowgirlJane's topic in The Gals' Room
Me too BethinPA! Have just had a couple of dates with a nice guy with the Buddha belly and have been wondering if that's me making a backwards choice because he's within my comfort zone... or rather he's in my old comfort zone. Have now been invited out for lunch (!) with another guy, who's whatever the male equivalent of a gym bunny is - and he races motorbikes. So he's toned and athletic and fit! But although I look pretty reasonable, my friend describes me as "she looks like a yogurt but she wobbles like a jelly". Think you all get the picture :-)))) Still have a bit of toning to do!!! Good thread, has made me think of what lies behind my decisions to have dates with both guys. Mmmmm..... -
6 weeks out and everything I eat gives me ouchie pouch
Djmohr replied to Homecie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Beni, I have that same experience with egg and I am 12 weeks out. For some reason I eat egg and I just get instantly sick to my stomach. Occasionally I try to sneak it in with other stuff in small amounts but I think it is just too heavy. The weird thing is my pouch loves chicken and fish. Sometimes ground beef but sometimes I have trouble with it and it can ruin my day. Food can be frustrating. I also get board eating the same things. Lately I eat a lot of cheese, fish, chicken, yogurt, oatmeal and protein shakes. And I can eat almost all vegies. It has gotten a lot better as the weeks have gone by, you just have to take your time and if a food doesn't work try again a week or two later. -
6 weeks out and everything I eat gives me ouchie pouch
ready2B replied to Homecie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 weeks out now and there are times things hurt my pouch too. I am on a regular diet now, but I can't seem to tolerate meat of any kind right now, even though I could 3 weeks ago. My NUT explained that some of us don't have the stomach enzymes that we need to break certain foods down like meats at first, and it takes some people longer than others to be able to eat them again. Be patient. In the meantime, I can eat cheese, yogurt, edamame, and a bunch of other things just fine and can get in my Protein with non-meat things. I do find if I eat or ever drink a sip of Water too fast, my ouch will cramp up and it HURTS!! It will take up to a couple of hours sometimes to quit cramping. I just wait it out, maybe sip some warm camomile tea, and then it all seems okay again. -
I am struggling too. Ive had the band for 6 months and havent lost the weight i want to lose. What i am starting to do now is eat 6 small meals instead of 3. My meals usually consist of chicken topped with a little bit of cheese or baked fish with a vegetable or a salad. If i am hungry a couple hours later i would have cut up fruit or a yogurt. I also dont eat breakfast which i found out can cause you to gain weight so now i either have a packet of instant oatmeal or grits or a protein shake. I am also starting to limit my carb intake and reduce my sugar. Because i wasnt getting that full feeling i was eating larger portions. After going to the doctor for my 3rd fill he told me that my meals should be a 1/2 a cup so i went to walmart and brought tupperware that was 1/2 cup so that i wouldnt be tempted to eat large portions. He also told me to take 20 min to eat the food and stop after that whether your full or not.
